lockscreen password lost - how to reset? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
my nephew has forgotten his lockscreen password (text). So there is no chance to get in android. The Nexus 7 is locked and USB debugging is NOT enabled.
What can I do to get in android back?
WLAN is on!
When I get to the bootloader to do Recovery Mode - then I get the Android-Man with the message Kein Befehl (no command).
Thanks and best regards,
schiff

Put in incorrect password
Type in incorrect password about 10 times. Then it will give you an option of using your google account to unlock.

That does not work. After 5 times there us displayed a pop up with the message: you entered the password 5 times wrong. please try again in 30 sec.
But there is no possibilty to enter the google account.

I open the Nexus 7 case. Is there any battery (or somethin like that) to make a hard reset?

Does it says 'Forgot pin' anywhere after 5 wrong messages? You need to tap that link which will take you to login through Google account.
If that doesn't works, then hard reset your nexus 7 to factory settings. It will wipe all apps and data. See this link for hard reset
http://www.ekoob.com/hard-reset-recovery-mode-nexus-7-11334/

I found the answer:
* http://androidforums.com/nexus-7/610638-warning-nexus-7-has-no-hard-reset.html
Here's the trick.
Reboot to fastboot by pressing POWER and VOLUME DOWN together until you get to the first boot screen. Select "Recovery Mode" by using the volume buttons to scroll and confirming with Power. It will reboot into recovery (the smaller Android with the open chest and Red "!") Now - here's the tricky bit - you have to press POWER and UP together ONCE to enable the recovery menu.
Then, you can select Factory Reset and you're good to go.
You don't need to be plugged in to a computer.

Yes I've tried this it says
"This account is required by some applications. You can only remove it by resetting the phone to factory defaults (which deletes all your personal data). You do that in the Settings application, under Privacy."
so i tried deleteting all the market apps and still no go. I must have factory reseted like 25 times already and as soon as it starts up the account is preloaded.
I have reformatted my sdcard, even tried removing the sdcard completely while i factory reset.
nothing is working is there any thing im missing?
Best bet is switch ot off. Hold the up key whilst pressing the power button which will take u into the recovery menu.
Select factory reset on there. That will set it as from the factory for sure!

Well maybe this?
http://www.mygalaxytab.net/samsung-galaxy-tab-how-to/how-to-remove-gmail-account/
Or a hard reset this way:
Reset Galaxy Tab with Hardware Keys
If Android OS is not loading then you can hard reset Galaxy Tab using hardware Keys combination.
Make sure tab is turned off, Press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds to turn it off.
Press and hold the “Volume Up” and “Power” buttons at the same time, when logo appears on the screen release the “Power” button and continue press the “Volume” button
When recovery screen appears use “Volume Up/Down” buttons to navigate and select “wipe data / Factory reset” by pressing the “Home” or “Power” button

Well, then i dont know how to be helpfull further. the only thing i wouldt do in youre case, is flash a rom?!
The RotoJMIv2 is a nice one. If you flash it with Odin and use the pit-file as wel, youre phone will be reformatted and i suppose the phone is then completly clean.
Ok I contacted Samsung technical support when I was having a similar problem and they instructed me to power the tab down and once off, press and hold BOTH volume buttons at the same time and press and hold the power button and continue through the menus, if this does not work you can contact Samsung personally if you like the number is: 1-888-987-4357

Don't know if you've fixed it yet or tried this, but adding a new account should allow you to remove it.
Was there ever a resolution to this problem? My 'refurbished' tab is doing the exact same thing.
I've flashed it using Odin with both the original EA24 and rooted gingerbread ROMs mentioned in this thead.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133053&highlight=reinstall+applications+flash+gingerbread
No effect. The Tab 'works' after being flashed, but still has the same problem.
I've factory reset it both through the settings menus and also on the recovery boot screen.
Still, the previous account persists.
It will also not remember any changes I make to it after a reboot. No wifi networks are remembered, no applications I install remain. It behaves the exact same way on both EA24 and gingerbread.
Is this a hardware problem of some kind?

Encryption bricked my device - can't enter recovery

EDIT: Solved here
Google/Asus Nexus 7, brand new yesterday.
The first thing I did was accept the OTA update to 4.1.1, and then reboot.
I spend the day setting up my apps and things, then I went to encrypt the phone. At this point, I have a 5-digit numerical PIN.
I leave it to do its stuff, and check back an hour later, and it's sitting on a screen saying "Type password to decrypt storage".
So I enter my numerical PIN, and it says its incorrect. I enter my Google account password just in case, and that's incorrect too.
So I go to do a hard-reset following some instructions on the Google Nexus help pages, but the device just hangs on the Google logo when trying to enter Recovery Mode. I gave it about 20 minutes just to be sure, and now I'm posting on here.
I've read some other guides which say it can work if you boot with a USB cable plugged in, but this just prevents me from selecting any options on the bootloader menu.
So I'm looking to do one of two things:
Work out what my encryption password is
Reset my Nexus
I have the same problem 'encryption bricked my device)
I have the same problem this morning after going off me for a password and I can not continue.
How to solve the problem?

OK I solved this and managed to reset my Nexus 7 by doing the following:
Turn the tablet off
Plug the tablet into a PC using the USB cable that came with it (NOT into the mains, and ONLY into USB2 not USB3)
Hold down vol-down, vol-up and power, until the fastboot menu appears
Use the volume down button to scroll to "Recovery Mode" and press Power to select
Wait for a minute until a red triangle Android logo appears
While holding volume-up, tap the power key to enter the recovery menu
Select factory reset, and Yes to confirm
It seems that the device needs to be plugged in via USB, but I couldn't get it working with my Kindle cable, only the one that came with my Nexus 7. So if USB being plugged in won't let you select any options on the fastboot menu, try using the stock cable.
same problem here.. any solutions avoiding factory reset ?

Forgot Nexus 7 admin pin code and cannot unlock...

Hey please can anybody help with this:
I got a Nexus 7 tablet as a present to my wife.
She is the first user and thus has the administrator user credentials.
The problem is she had to make a lock pin password for a few days to lend it to a friend and then she forgot it.
Now on the lockscreen, no matter how many times the pin is given wrong, the prompt "Forgot Password" never appears!!
I read in several forums that if pin code forgotten the user can alternatively may log in using linked gmail account credentials.
But the prompt does not appear to do this.
It just counts the times given wrong and makes a timer of 30'' for every set of 5 times wrong input.
With the second user I can use the tablet normally but we are stuck in this situation to have the admin locked out.
Is ther something we can do other than factory reset?
And if factory reset is the only solution, how it may be done?
Thanks in advance
Chris
Seems to be not too uncommon..

To reset...
1. Press the power button and both volume keys for several seconds. Continue to hold until you see the Android recovery logo and the large Start selection at the top of the screen.
2. Move the volume keys up and down to see the menu selections. The power key will select the option.
3. To factory reset and wipe the device, select Recovery Mode.
4. When you see the Android with red triangle, hold the power button down and press the volume up key until the wipe data/factory reset option appears. Press the power button to select it. Remember that this will erase all the data on your device.
5. With the volume keys select Yes – erase all user data and again press the power button to select this option.

Forgot home screen lock pattern on ZTE ZMAX Pro

I forgot my home screen lock pattern. We used to have the option to get into our mobile phones via our Google account/Gmail in a bind like this. Now it only gives you 30 seconds before another attempt and that's it (?) I tried logging into Android Device Manager and it sends a code via SMS on my phone, but how can I see the SMS if I can't unlock my phone?! Is there any other way to get in? Perhaps with my Google account? Thx...

Hi.
Was reading your post.
Try rebooting in RECOVERY-Mode.
1-Turn phone off
2-Hold down: Power & Down Buttons
3-Press: Up, when Logo/Android shows
4- Scroll with: Pwr Up/Dwn to: RECOVERY
5-Select: Recovery, with the Pwr-Button
6-WAIT for phone to reboot into Recov-Mode;
then, click: "Wipe Cache Data". After that,
click: "Factory Reset" or similar wording.
Finally, reboot phone. You should now be
able to get into it without ANY locks!!!
Only downside is: this method WILL erase
all previous stuff. Hope you made a backup.
Let me know how you made out; and good
luck.

In up corner you see privacy protection, on your Firmware will be like Encrypt or smlt. Just press it, and follow the steps! But if f you can't then make factory reset!
That's a known bug in the latest firmwares. Set a pattern and insert it wrongly for 5 times then press "forgot the pattern" button or something like that and after entering the pin code it will ask you to choose the new lock method. Just press the home button and you are done
