Does anyone know why this keeps happening.
If i plug in my HDMI cable and go into music, the audio will play out of the TV for about 1 second and then it will stop (music players keeps playing the track)
I can't then get it back, the only way of doing so is to disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable
HDMI is just really buggy. A lot of us can't get sound output working at all. I've tried various HDMI cables and TVs with no luck.

Hi Everyone,
I plugged my A7 through the HDMI port to my projector, it works with no issues whatsoever! But the sound jack doesn't work once the HDMI is plugged. Is there a way to force the sound to work even if HDMI is plugged in? Or even the speakers?
Thank you,
Marc
I have run into this issue with other devices, not the A7 yet though.
Once HDMI was connected the device only wanted to send audio over it and disabled all others.
My projector had RCA L/R out, but no internal speakers.
What I ended up having to do was get a RCA -> headphone jack adapter from Radio Shack and use regular PC speakers from that.
Probably not the solution you were looking for, but I hope it helps.
Possible solution
The option I'm looking at right now is an HDMI switch. It has 2 inputs for HDMI and outputs 4 HDMI and an RCA. I'm not really insterested in dishing out the 70$ for it though.
So I want to hook up my tablet to my older tv for some gaming or videos every once in a while, but this thing is old and only has DVI, no HDMI. I already have a converter so video comes through fine.
I was hoping I could still have audio come out of the tablet speakers somehow but it doesn't seem possible?
What about through the headphone jack? Can audio come out of there and hdmi at the same time? That would solve the issue. (Should have tried this, but didn't think of it at the time and now i'm at work)

Boy was that tough looking four posts below yours, I didn't even have to use the search function. How do you operate a tablet blind, or does someone do it for you?

that's a different question and I looked there first. my video is fine, he's talking about converters and receivers. all I asked was if audio still comes out of the headphone jack at the same time the hdmi is plugged in. didn't want the threadjack

Ugh (*insert sarcastic remark here*)
He needed to get audio out through the HDMI just like you should do. READ!

Since it seems that this is just too much for you to grasp, I'll spell it out for you, now pay attention closely OK?
HDMI out of your tab to a splitter. One side of splitter use your existing HDMI to DVI to the TV. Other side of the splitter goes into the box mentioned in the thread I linked to. Out of that box, two RCA to your TV. Got it?
Just tested on my unit. Audio is normally on HDMI, when you plug-in headphones, the audio stops on the HDMI and is heard on the headphones.
A splitter will work as described or get the cable to convert the headphone jack to RCA audio.

Thanks. I was looking for a way to get the sound out through my speakers when using HDMI on a computer monitor without audio capability!
if you connect a dvi inpout on your tv, you must set the tv on EXT dvi, and if you connect the rca audio, you must set the tv on an other incoming !
No ?
I watching youtube or playing music with the Q. Sound works.
I turn off the TV.
I turn on the TV. Video or music is playing on screen, but sound doesn't work.
I have to pull the power on the Q or even do a reset to get sound working again.
I'm using the HDMI cable that was included from Google IO and a samsung TV.
Anyone else see this problem?
I also have a question for people that ordered the Q from Google, does the HDMI cable come in the box or is everyone getting a 2nd box that included the special Nexus Q HDMI cable? I thought that was really weird they didn't put the cable in the box.

I don't have this problem sound goes on again as soon as i turn on my Samsung TV again, just tested it right now.
Oh and btw i didn't even get a HDMI cable with mine.. bought it from a dev expecting it to be in the box, but it wasn't there.. and it was BNIB unopened.. he got it at google I/O
i get no sound frequently. sometimes i turn it on and it works fine, using the hdmi cord btw. most of the time i try to use my q i get no sound
whats your setups? i.e. are you using a receiver, optical, hdmi to tv, but is there a tv outputting to somewhere else?
just hdmi cord going from the q to the tv. video plays but no audio. now i cant get it to work at all
using HDMI cable connected to a TV.
no receiver. TV speakers. very simple setup.
I see this issue on both of my Q's, both with the same setup.
now no matter what i try i cannot get any sound. same setup as you. very frustrating. im in canada and bought the q from someone who attended google io. (180$ for an unopened Q!!) the hdmi cord is in hdmi 1. if i switch over to hdmi 2 and back then i have no video too, until i restart the q. wtf am i supposed to do with this thing!!!! lol
I have a Tegra Note 7 and I cannot get the sound to work through HDMI. I connect the tablet to the TV using a micro HDMI cable and the video is fine, but there is no audio. Any solutions for this? Tablet is stock and rooted.

That's weird since mine has always worked fine, and there weren't any special settings to change or anything. I will say that the micro-HDMI port is kinda awful, and if the cable is wiggled at all, the signal cuts out, sometimes just the audio. You may want to troubleshoot by trying another cable and seeing if you have the same problem as well as trying this cable on another device with a micro-HDMI output, if any of that is an option.
I've tried a couple of devices that claim to connect V20 to tv by wired usb c to HDMI connector. They work for a while then the picture is lost or the phone itself freezes up. About the longest play I've gotten successfully is an hour but usually something goes wrong within 15 minutes.*
The phone has been out over 6 months now so I thought someone may have found a really dependable HDMI connector? I don't mind the lack of power in because I can always change batteries but phone should be able to play through HDMI long enough to watch one movie. That's all I really need hut I don't want to have to screw around with it 10 times to watch one movie.
Thanks so much for your help!
I've been wanting to make use of this feature, but haven't extensively yet. I have though gotten to make fair use of a micro-USB to HDMI adapter. A few trouble spots come to mind here.
Sounds like you're powering the adapter/phone from an external power source? How good is that power source? My micro-USB to HDMI was distinctly less reliable when plugged in since I was merely powering it from a normal USB port. Try running it entirely from the phone's battery. If this works better then it could be you really need a higher power source when using the adapter.
How good is your HDMI cable? Depending on how strongly the phone/adapter drives the HDMI signal, a lower quality cable could break the camel's back.
I've been running into a different bit of trouble with USB-C to HDMI adapters. I've found several of these, but whenever they've got a USB-C pass-through, the pass-through is strictly for power and does not carry the USB signals. The MyDP specification allows for USB3 to be passed through if 1 or 2 pairs are used for the HDMI signal, but allows for USB2 to be passed through no matter how many pairs are used for the HDMI signal. There are adapters which also include USB-A port(s), yet none which include an external USB-C with the USB signals. Grr!
I use C to HDMI not micro usb. V20 doesn't use micro usb. It uses slimport. I have one adapter which allows simultaneous charging and one strictly slimport C to HDMI. Both behave the same way. I have a high quality 2.5 foot HDMI wire.
Power source was Samsung tv usb powered output 1 amp. Point is I have the same issue with pure slimport and no charging.
The one that allows simultaneous charging does in fact charge and work but always craps out but so does the slimport C to HDMI.
Hmm, entertaining what you find when you do research. I suspect the V20 is using the "MyDP" specification, which is the official specification name behind "Slimport". Seems there are at least two other video out methods for USB-C.
I haven't done enough with the video-out feature of my V20 to have much experience yet. With a V10 whenever an adapter was plugged in without external power there were no problems, but when an adapter with external power was plugged in video wasn't reliable.
I'm interested in reading if you find out anything.

Sorry I haven't tried, but its seems to connect smoother the a wifi dongle.
does anyone know if there's a compatible dongle for the V20 with not only hdmi but also power input and usb host?
Happening to me too - Any suggestions
Your situation's description fits my problem exactly. I have a USB C to HDMI that was vouched as working by several V20 owners. I plug it into my Dell monitor to play games on a bigger screen. It works well for a while, then disconnects and popup on my screen says something like, "LG Bridge has stopped working do you want to exit?". Once this happens, it's almost impossible to get the V20 to share the screen again. It's not a hub, just a USB C (male) to HDMI (female).
