I have a Tegra Note 7 and I cannot get the sound to work through HDMI. I connect the tablet to the TV using a micro HDMI cable and the video is fine, but there is no audio. Any solutions for this? Tablet is stock and rooted.

That's weird since mine has always worked fine, and there weren't any special settings to change or anything. I will say that the micro-HDMI port is kinda awful, and if the cable is wiggled at all, the signal cuts out, sometimes just the audio. You may want to troubleshoot by trying another cable and seeing if you have the same problem as well as trying this cable on another device with a micro-HDMI output, if any of that is an option.

I have an A500 with the Acer stock rom on it (3.2), and I'm having problems getting the HDMI out to work. Is there a special setting somewhere that sends the screen output to HDMI? Or should it automatically appear?
I got a micro HDMI to HDMI adapter off of eBay, so I don't know if that's the cause of the problem. I know the HDMI on the TV works because my XBox works fine on it.
I would appreciate anyone's insight into this problem.

Have you tried turning off your tab, plugging in the HDMI cable to both your tab, and TV, then booting up tab?
It should just work as soon as it's plugged in. You'll see a notification that an HDMI display was detected or somesuch. My A500 had a loose HDMI port so it would flake out with the slightest touch. Cables are cheap, so it may be worthwhile to get another cable from a place like monoprice.com and see if that makes a difference. If not, it's either the device or TV. Maybe a friend has an Android phone with micro-HDMI you can test with?
I found plugging into tv first then connecting to tab worked best, before that I only had a blank tv screen... Seems the A500/501 needs the tv connected first, at least mine does...
mine to just works..
WELL it does on my SAMSUNG SMART TV..
ON MY LAME BUT Huge screen SANYO.. (DONT LAUGH IT WAS ON SALE) tv in the living room i have to sometimes plug the cable into the tv.. set the tv to hdmi 4.. IT WILL ONLY WORK ON PORT 4 .. then when i have black screen saying no input found or something like that i plug in the tablet.and all is well..
ALSO PAY GOOD MONEY FOR THE CABLE.. THE CHEAP TINY Connector is not equal on all cables my iconia only works on the gold plated high end cable
i use the same one as i do for my cell phone...
ACER WAS LAME BY PUTTING SUCH A SMALL PORT. there is room in that spot of this tablet for atleast a mini port if not full size I hate micro ports...
I bought a micro to standard HDMI cable (by PNY) last night at Staples and it works fine. I got 10ft for $29.00, compared to the Monster micro 4ft for $39. It worked fine at the hotel I was at on the flat panel in my room. No complaints from me.
I'm surprised at the diameter of the cable, as it is very thin. But, it works! Hellooooo Netflix!
I'm about to try it at home on my old Sony XBR...
Cheers!
I bet he's using a Westinghouse TV if I'm right for some reason the Westinghouse brand doesn't like any android hdmi out this goes for my a500 and my evo. Mine doesn't work and I have had it working with my Sanyo as everyone mentioned just by plugging it in

I also had a problem of not getting my Westinghouse TV, that is only a few years old, to recognize the HDMI input from my A500. Tried everything and it didn't work, but the A500 works on my other three tvs.
I plugged my A500 into an older Sony 52", using the side-mounted HDMI input, and it 'just worked'. Mind you it freaked out momentarily when I flipped the tablet around and the screen auto-rotate kicked in, but once I oriented the tablet in it's normal "upright" (volume buttons on top) position, everything looked great.
On this same topic, I noticed that standard/full-sized HDMI to HDMI Micro cables are hard to find in the retail chain, so I bought mine (dirt cheap prices/shipping and excellent quality) from monoprice dot com.
Really? Huh. Rotation is disabled for me when i plug it into my 25" hanspree
And it 'just works' for me too

I watching youtube or playing music with the Q. Sound works.
I turn off the TV.
I turn on the TV. Video or music is playing on screen, but sound doesn't work.
I have to pull the power on the Q or even do a reset to get sound working again.
I'm using the HDMI cable that was included from Google IO and a samsung TV.
Anyone else see this problem?
I also have a question for people that ordered the Q from Google, does the HDMI cable come in the box or is everyone getting a 2nd box that included the special Nexus Q HDMI cable? I thought that was really weird they didn't put the cable in the box.

I don't have this problem sound goes on again as soon as i turn on my Samsung TV again, just tested it right now.
Oh and btw i didn't even get a HDMI cable with mine.. bought it from a dev expecting it to be in the box, but it wasn't there.. and it was BNIB unopened.. he got it at google I/O
i get no sound frequently. sometimes i turn it on and it works fine, using the hdmi cord btw. most of the time i try to use my q i get no sound
whats your setups? i.e. are you using a receiver, optical, hdmi to tv, but is there a tv outputting to somewhere else?
just hdmi cord going from the q to the tv. video plays but no audio. now i cant get it to work at all
using HDMI cable connected to a TV.
no receiver. TV speakers. very simple setup.
I see this issue on both of my Q's, both with the same setup.
now no matter what i try i cannot get any sound. same setup as you. very frustrating. im in canada and bought the q from someone who attended google io. (180$ for an unopened Q!!) the hdmi cord is in hdmi 1. if i switch over to hdmi 2 and back then i have no video too, until i restart the q. wtf am i supposed to do with this thing!!!! lol
When I connect my Nexus 10 to my HDTV, it shares the device's display without issue, but there is no sound output. I've tried everything that I can think of. Am I missing something? The last time I connected any android device via HDMI was my Xoom over a year ago, and since I got rid of that pretty quickly (too heavy) it's been a while. Suddenly I am having problems.
This is the cable I'm using: http://www.amazon.com/Mediabridge-F...1353207285&sr=8-1&keywords=Micro+HDMI+to+hdmi
same here
Habe the same Problem. Sound isnt Wirkung with HDMI . is there a solution ?
If I find out this thing doesn't support audio out via HDMI :crying:
Someone tell me theirs is fine... please?
All quiet here, too.
I am using this cable.

I had the exact opposite for a while (sound with no video). I was using a micro to normal HDMI adapter and a normal cable and it turned out the cable connection to the tv was loose. Fixed and all was well. Sound and video.
I didn't expect others to have the same problem. That's scary. I'm going to call Google Play support then. Thanks guys.

I have no problem with HDMI audio out... both audio and video work fine... on stock & even with my custom ROM...
I think I found the solution.
Since my TV is older, it only had 2 HDMI ports. I was using an HDMI switch to give me more ports. Running through the switch gave me picture, but no sound. When I plugged in the cable directly into the TV, it worked perfectly.
I found the solution from a Droid razr owner who had the same issue with an HDMI extender.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-razr-support/214913-no-sound-connecting-hdmi.html#post2176611
There should be more documentation for this kind of thing, but a hunch..
...maybe the hdmi ports have to be arc enabled (1.4a) then only giving audio?
So, mixing and matching cables/connectors/switchers will undoubtedly cause problems.
I'm also having no sound, but display works fine. I have it connected straight to the tv with a standard cable. Any ideas?

I am, also, experiencing no sound over HDMI problem. It might be the cable. What cable are you using?
I had a similar problem the other night. I fixed it by disconnecting HDMI and then turning volume up on n10 and then reconnecting HDMI. When connected the volume buttons didn't change volume at all.

I have audio but no video. The same cable works with my Asus tf700 and Kindle Fire HD. I called support and they are sending me a replacement.

I had the same problem. I solved it by connecting my amp to it via the headphone socket, turning the volume on the n10 up and then pulled the headphone jack out.
Odd that you cant adjust volume with just a hdmi cable plugged in.

I'm using an HDMI to HDMI cable with a HDMI in to micro HDMI out adapter. Getting no sound out at all. It's not coming from the TV or the Nexus 10. Going to buy a normal HDMI to micro HDMI cable and try that...
I got no video! it shows 1080p signal but gives me black screen, any fix?
Hello!
Just got my Nexus 10 and I tried to connect the Mirco-HDMI out to my LG 42LD420 tv.
However, screen is all black and nothing happens. When I connect to my new PC screen HDMI port the image is mirrored instantly and it just works...
So I guess theres some new standards in Micro-HDMI that my TV doesn't support?
Just wanna clear this problem by making sure its my tv. And btw, other devices works just fine on the tv HDMI port...
Thanks for any info.
Simon
Whenever HDMI has problems it's usually HDCP that is the culprit.
Thanks! Googled some about it and I realize the problem New TV then I guess or try with some adapters to analog input...
I just ran into this the other day myself with a Samsung TV. I thought maybe it was the TV was only capable of 720p or something...
I'd get sound through from the N10, no picture though.
Also tried an MHL cable with my GNex and nothing as well.
Both devices work no problem on either of my PC monitors, and the PS3 has no problem with that cable/port on the TV.
Are there any workarounds?
My quick search indicates that it's possible that it can be cable specific? ie. Will work for some devices but not others? Does that even make sense?
I've tried a couple of devices that claim to connect V20 to tv by wired usb c to HDMI connector. They work for a while then the picture is lost or the phone itself freezes up. About the longest play I've gotten successfully is an hour but usually something goes wrong within 15 minutes.*
The phone has been out over 6 months now so I thought someone may have found a really dependable HDMI connector? I don't mind the lack of power in because I can always change batteries but phone should be able to play through HDMI long enough to watch one movie. That's all I really need hut I don't want to have to screw around with it 10 times to watch one movie.
Thanks so much for your help!
I've been wanting to make use of this feature, but haven't extensively yet. I have though gotten to make fair use of a micro-USB to HDMI adapter. A few trouble spots come to mind here.
Sounds like you're powering the adapter/phone from an external power source? How good is that power source? My micro-USB to HDMI was distinctly less reliable when plugged in since I was merely powering it from a normal USB port. Try running it entirely from the phone's battery. If this works better then it could be you really need a higher power source when using the adapter.
How good is your HDMI cable? Depending on how strongly the phone/adapter drives the HDMI signal, a lower quality cable could break the camel's back.
I've been running into a different bit of trouble with USB-C to HDMI adapters. I've found several of these, but whenever they've got a USB-C pass-through, the pass-through is strictly for power and does not carry the USB signals. The MyDP specification allows for USB3 to be passed through if 1 or 2 pairs are used for the HDMI signal, but allows for USB2 to be passed through no matter how many pairs are used for the HDMI signal. There are adapters which also include USB-A port(s), yet none which include an external USB-C with the USB signals. Grr!
I use C to HDMI not micro usb. V20 doesn't use micro usb. It uses slimport. I have one adapter which allows simultaneous charging and one strictly slimport C to HDMI. Both behave the same way. I have a high quality 2.5 foot HDMI wire.
Power source was Samsung tv usb powered output 1 amp. Point is I have the same issue with pure slimport and no charging.
The one that allows simultaneous charging does in fact charge and work but always craps out but so does the slimport C to HDMI.
Hmm, entertaining what you find when you do research. I suspect the V20 is using the "MyDP" specification, which is the official specification name behind "Slimport". Seems there are at least two other video out methods for USB-C.
I haven't done enough with the video-out feature of my V20 to have much experience yet. With a V10 whenever an adapter was plugged in without external power there were no problems, but when an adapter with external power was plugged in video wasn't reliable.
I'm interested in reading if you find out anything.

Sorry I haven't tried, but its seems to connect smoother the a wifi dongle.
does anyone know if there's a compatible dongle for the V20 with not only hdmi but also power input and usb host?
Happening to me too - Any suggestions
Your situation's description fits my problem exactly. I have a USB C to HDMI that was vouched as working by several V20 owners. I plug it into my Dell monitor to play games on a bigger screen. It works well for a while, then disconnects and popup on my screen says something like, "LG Bridge has stopped working do you want to exit?". Once this happens, it's almost impossible to get the V20 to share the screen again. It's not a hub, just a USB C (male) to HDMI (female).
