I tried this in the general forum, but got no response.
Does anyone here currently use your 8525 or similar on the ATT GoPhone service?
And if so,
Are there any issues with using it on the unlimited medianet plan for goPhones?
Is it as simple as putting the GoPhone sim in my 8525?
Is it 3G?
Thanks
Bump.
Does anyone have any input on using an 8525 on the prepaid plan?
8525 GoPhone
YES YES AND YES!!
Sign up for GoPhone (Pick Your Plan)
Thats the specific name of the plan
"Pick Your Plan"
The most is 69.99 for 650 minutes , Unlim night/Weekend , Unlim ATT 2 ATT
Then you can add MediaNet for 19.99 for unlim data to access HSDPA/UMTS
I switched to ATT for this (Bye bye TMO get 3g someday)
All in all about 90 bucks + tax for prepaid Hermes(8525) with DATA!!!
This is what im using NOW
addendum
I did a superCID and sim unlock before popping in my GoPhone SIM
I didnt even think to see if it worked before that because I was using
my TMO sim in the 8525
Well, I got my GoPhone in the mail yesterday with unlimited data.
Put the sim in my 8525 and been working great ever since, including 3G.
I got the 39.99 plan and 4.99 texting plan since most of my calls are to other att mobiles. So with tax I am around $70/mo.
I love not having a contract.
AINT IT COOL !!!
I checked my re-up
Im paying $122 after taxes OUCH
650 min, unlim ATT2ATT, Unlim N/W, Unlim DATA, Unlim Text
ok, so how do i get this? i walk into the store and say i need the cheapest gophone you have with unlimited data and pop the sim in my 8525 and walk out of the store whistling?
I signed up online. Choose the Pick Your Plan goPhone, add texting and data plan features, and checkout.
I chose the cheapest phone, a refurb for 9.99. It arrived in 2 days, at which time I took that sim and put in my 8525.
All is good.
Oh, and my I had performed super CID unlock in the past. I am not sure if this is necessary or not since mine is an ATT phone.
Works
Yep, GO Phone works just fine on the 8525, only thing is you still receive that annoying reminder each time you deduct money from your account.. Other then that works like a charm.

Do I HAVE to use that plan, or is it just the best deal in your opinion? Can I use "Pay as You Go" if I want to?
"bump".......
Can I just buy a Go Phone plan w/o data and just use WiFi
I see that I'm probably good to buy a cheap Go Phone w/SIM online, then put that SIM in my 8525. But I only want to do downloads and Internet access via my WiFi not the typical GPRS 3g cell network. So...If I get the current plan w/o any data options am I good to go? I can't see which plan would make any difference as long as I do all my data transfers via WiFi. Can anyone confirm?
Is there anyway I can use my nexus one with a t-mobile sidekick prepaid plan???
You would have to buy the phone at the full price unlocked I believe.
lol do you have a prepaid plan already? if so try it... for testing purposes try using another phone with that prepaid plan...
my gut says no because i think the plan+phone works different than a contract...
My phone is Unlocked and i do have a prepaid sidekick plan, it sees the connection but it give me a basic tmobile wap site when i try to use the web and nothing else works. i guess they're doing some IMEI scanning. supposedly this plan will only work if you have a sidekick
As a short google search would have immediately revealed, T-mo US blocked non-sidekick phones on the sidekick plan some time last Summer (i.e. a decade ago).
I really want the Vibrant but I don't want to get the $30 required data plan as I'm almost always connected to Wifi wherever I am. Does unlocking the phone mean that I don't need the data plan and I can stay on T-Mobile? I was wondering that if I buy the Vibrant(not from T-mobile) as an upgrade(I'm on a family plan) but without the data plan will I be able to unlock it. Or should I buy the Vibrant from eBay and then call T-Mobile for the unlock code. Also, when calling for the unlock code, would I just call T-Mobile and tell them I want the code?
Dude if you have T-Mobile you can use the phone without the data plan. Unless your on another carrier you will need it. An unlock code does nothing but allow other carriers to use the phone that's locked to t-mobile or ATT
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I had the HD2 before and when I bought it from Costco Wireless without data they added the $30 data plan automatically. How can I get the Vibrant w/ out the data?
Buy the phone full price w/out contract. That is your best bet IMO. They may still push you to get the data plan but if you contact Cust Loyality you might be able to get around it.
Another option would be to buy the phone w/ a new Even more plus plan that doesn't require a contract then cancel the plan an then take your SIM outta your current phone on your other line and put it into the Vibrant.
Still not sure if TMo will force you to have some kinda data plan based on what the IMEI is of the phone. I know other carriers have done this, but not sure on what TMo's policy is.
Thanks for the advice. I'm probably gonna end up going with the first option.
I bought mine w/o contract.
Just tell them you're buying just the phone, and you don't want a plan/SIM.
FYI: the Vibrant does not work on Web2Go or T-Zones plans.(trust me, I had one b4)
You can buy the phone on ebay or craigslist or get it at full price.... just tell them to block all data... just realize that you will no longer have picture messages or mms.. but you will keep text messaging.. .make sure they block it because if not and you accidently get on the mobile web you will pay big bucks
I have the $15 unlimited data plan for non-smartphones with AT&T. Will I be able to use an unlocked Bell Atrix and keep my existing data plan with AT&T? Since AT&T also has the atrix, I'm concerned that AT&T will know what phone I'm using and make me switch to a different data plan. Please advise.

Wasn't sure if this worked, and if you actually order the phone, wouldn't you have to pay for the plan?
I believe att can detect your phone and will automatically put you on a corresponding iPhone (bull****) plan, not 100% sure though, I do know that international phones can be used on the Medianet dumbphone data plan though.
This is very interesting and I am really thinking about trying it out. The only bummer is you ahve to by a phone just to get the sim card. If anyone tries this out let us know how it goes and if I try it out first I will let you know.
OK I Activate AT&T Phones Daily and of my best friends works at a AT&T Call Center, so here's some FAQ
Is it really unlimited data for $15?
Yes it is Unlimited Data for any Basic AT&T Phone, but if your trying to use it with a smart phone and use like 8GB of Data in a month they will be suspect
Will it work with a Smartphone?
Yes and no, If your using a AT&T Model Phone AT&T Will either block data or in most cases add the data package
If you have a T-Mobile Unlocked Phone or a Unlocked International GSM Phone it will not be in AT&T's System so you won't be flagged
Do you have to do anything to make it work?
Well Yes APN, you have to use the MediaNet APN, The normal 4G and LTE APNS will not work
Also to note Many New Go Phone Sim Cards are now Married to the phones IMEI they ship with and will not work in another phone unless you get a sim unlock code, I have verified this with the $19 Samsung Flip phone ZTE Z431, ZTEAvail, and the AT&T Fusion, I tried the sim card that came with the phones in my Galaxy S II Skyrocket, Samsung Vibrant and Samsung Propel
Thank you for your investigation, saved me the time I would've spent asking questions and searching for answers.
Well what I want to know is, if you buy one of those messaging phones for $0.01 on the 2 year contract like the video says, so that you get the sim, won't you have to pay for the 2 yr contract regardless? Or do they not charge you unless you activate it?

Yes you would, You would be required to commit to a 2 year contract and would have to at Minimum have the 450 Min for $39.99 and the $20 Unlimited Texting or $0.20 Per Text Message and the $15 Basic Phone Data Package so that video isn't really correct..
If you want "Unlimited Smartphone on AT&T then the Straight Talk Sim Cards are a much better way to go, For $45 a month you have Unlimited Talk, Text, Web, Data, I setup a Friend with a Galaxy S Captivate on it and he has the Full 3G Speeds and has had months he's hit 6GB and never had a Issue, The only thing you have to watch for is if you want to do the Wireless Hotspot, It is against the TOS to do Hotspot but you can Use Wifi Tether For Root Users and it will show as Mobile Web Usage so they won't bug you.
You can get the Straight Talk Sims in Both Full Size and Micro Sim Versions for Both AT&T and T-Mobile, and if you put the AT&T Sim in a AT&T Phone you don't even have to unlock it to work, I've setup Go Phones, iPhones, HTC Sensation 4G, HTC Mytouch 4G, Samsung Captivate, AT&T Avail http://straighttalksim.com/shop.php

So you have to pay $55 a month? That video is completely pointless...

Ok guys so I found an about 8 month old ATT sim that's never been activated, and I just got an ATT manager to give me an unnactivated sim. Is there anyway I can use either of these on the plan?
