what is the difference between CWM 5.5.0.4 and 5.8.3.1. Why ROM manager installed CWM 5.8.3.1 in Galaxy Tab P7500 while taking backup, though CWM 5.5.04 was already installed using ODIN I.85. Is it necessary to re install CWM 5.5.0.4. If so, how to re install CWM 5.5.0.4. My galaxy TAB P7500 is running on stock ICS 4.04.
Only a few changes are made(you can't even say where)from 5.5.0.4 to 5.8.3.1...
The ROMmanager must make sure that the CWM on your device matches with the version of the APP,but upgrading does no harm i.e. it's no need to reinstall CWM...
Beware!don't go into CWM if you are on the stock ICS because it has the rolling screen issue, flash all you need with ROMmanager, don't install CWM touch when you are using stock ICS(it'll be a waste of time, mony, etc)
If you want to get out of CWM(5.5.0.4) after flashing but get confused with the rolling screen just do thisress vol down and then press the power button twice...the tab restarts with all the changes you've made...
And finally:feel free to ask questions,XDA in always here to help you!

I'm using CWM 5.5.0.4 here with stock ICS. No problems at all.
5.5.0.4 is the version recommended to prevent rolling recovery.
I also followed pershoot's advice in the 2.6.36.4 thread. I did get the rolling recovery even with 5.5.0.4.
I am on stock US ICS and odined the following:
(1) US ICS 4.0.4 BL variant
(2) Recommended recovery (CWM non touch 6.0.1.2)
Now I have no flicker in the recovery or the ROM like I had experienced in the past. However, I'm rather way of CWM 6.0.1.2 because I used the previous non-touch (6.0.1.1 I think) and wasn't able to restore a Nandroid...it just hung on me. Where did you get the 5.5.0.4 that worked with stock ICS ROM/BL Jack?
Hi dj.
Can't remember now where I got 5504, read so many guides.
I have it in my drop box.
I'll post the link for it shortly.
Really

You're welcome.
Good luck.
Thank you for your nice advice and assurance. Sir I have another question/doubt. Please clarify
I am having P7500 in India. I flashed Italian stock rom 4.04 using ODIN. Later rooted the Tab using CWM 5.5.4 method. subsequently I installed ROM Manager. I did back up. It appears that CWM version was changed by ROM manager. Now I want to flash Indian stock rom 4.04 recently released and also rooting. Please suggest a mode.
Download the stock IN firmware from Sammobile and flash in Odin with PDA with your tablet in download mode. You will lose everything on your internal storage so if you want to keep your backups make sure to move them off the tablet before you flash.
You'll find lots of guides in the Q&A and Dev sections that will provide root methods for your 4.0.4 stock firmware. Or, you can skip all of this and just flash a rooted ICS ROM with a full wipe to save yourself the steps. It's really up to you.
Thank you Sir for your valuable advice.
Please clarify, If I flash INU stock ROM 4.04 on ITLY stock ROM 4.04, using ODIN, will it wipe out applications data also?
Earlier When I flashed ITLY stock ROM 4.04 on my original stock ROM 3.2 INU on my galaxy tab p7500 using ODIN, it did not wipe out any data from internal storage and all the applications were automatically installed after reboot..
It may, it may not...it depends on whether or not you boot up after the flash without issues. If you get stuck on the Samsung logo or a boot loop, you will need to boot into stock Android recovery and do a factory reset, that would format your /data partition and result in loss of apps etc.
That Thanks button works well if I have helped you makes me look like less of a noob! Good luck to you

I recommend doing a full wipe with CWM recovery before flashing with ODIN. Doing that avoids having to do a full wipe with Stock recovery which wipes the internal. Wiping before flash should avoids formatted internal. Would others confirm, this is what I have noticed on my tab.
I can access my recovery, and flash roms from the SD, however no matter what ROM I tried, I get a boot loop.
I have Skrilax_CZ bootloader v8
CWM Recovery v5.5.0.x
Any suggestions or ideas?
Thank you!
Another note, I used to have a working rom in my downloads folder on the device, however from recovery, when i go to choose zip from internal storage i get "E:Can't mount /sdcard/"
Thank you!

Just tried to do a restore on a backup I made sometime ago.
I got "Error formating data"
Rebooted, and I get a screen saying
"Encryption Unscuccessful" with a button to reset tablet
I press that, tablet reboots to recovery, and i get an android bot with a spinning pentagram, then the bot is on its back with a red exclamation point.
Okay got it booting! Well, booting to honeycomb, everything is kind of a blur right now, but I flashed a 3.2 rom
got the enter a password screen
did the following:

Now i can boot to android, but i can't boot to a recovery!!
Help?! lol

Im actually on 3.1! and I've rooted 3.1. I'm trying to install a recovery image now, TWRP or CWM. I've tried the Goomanager method and the Acer REcovery Installer method, both force close before the recovery is installed.

Everything working. 4.2.1 on A500 is very nice. Multi user is beautiful.
Sorry have only just seen your posts - awesome you managed to get yourself fixed!!!!
So you had HC 3.1 with the v8 bootloader and you flashed the JB rom directly from there?? I know doing it this way has worked for me in the past its great to know someone else has luck doing it as well...
one more thing can you edit the subject line of your original post to "fixed" or "solved" - this will help others who may be in the same postion!!!
thanx and have a great 2013!!!
dibb
Sure can, if I can figure out how to edit the title.
I had 4.1, a tegraowners rom, then i had a random reboot and no matter what rom I flashed it would fail.
I tried to install a 3.1 rom, which gave me the encrypted message asking me for a password.
I then booted to fastboot, ran a few commands that I found, and got 3.1 working.
Rooted, Installed a new recovery (mine was botched) and got 4.2 working on it!
I'd like to learn more about rom development. Any good places to start?
Thanks for that...can't help re rom dev but XDA have new site"xda-university" there's a bit about rom dev there that may be helpful...good luck tho

Hey all,
I RSD'd the other day and then re-rooted and re-unlocked the bootloader (yes, I now know it stays unlocked) and flashed CWM v6.0.1.4 recovery.
Now none of the custom ROMs will boot, though they install correctly in recovery. From CyanogenMod to Carbon to AOSP, it just sits on the boot animation... I've let it sit for up to half an hour.
I'm wiping data and cache, though CWM says E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/pretty-much every subfolder, but that doesn't seem like a big deal...
So what am I doing wrong, here, any ideas? It doesn't matter if I install the ROMs and GAPPS from external SD, right?
I RSD'd to 96.15.66, the one where I can unlock the bootloader, and the only ROM I can get to boot is Clean Rom (basically stock with tweaks of course).

are you mounting system first? never used CWM on this device, but in TWRP, they install just fine. I believe that most devs use TWRP (although, it should not make a difference).
Thanks for the reply, actually I have two cwm recovery images, and after the RSD I flashed the "wrong" one... After flashing the other, I was able to flash and boot just fine.

Hi Im not sure if Im having this exact issue but I have been having problem since I used Utility 1.20 and re-rooted and re-unlocked my phone. Every ROM I have tried has random reboot issue. Can you tell me exactly how you did it correctly?
Also I didnt understand the two recovery image concept. I was having safe strap before and had issue with stock partition and was using slot1 partition as daily rom. And I couldnt flash any other ROM. So I had to go back to stock with Utility 1.2 and start over. Right now Im having liquidsmooth ROM with CWM recovery. Still having those reboots.

I dont think I have uninstalled safestrap with an app. I followed the instruction in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2238341
This thread was started by me when I had problem with flashing ROMs in the stock slot using safestrap. Rikrong suggested I use Utility so that I go back to stock and start all over again. So I did. I guess thats how it should have been done?

what I would suggest doing is going into SS via the app (not via recovery once the phone boots up) and click the uninstall button.
then, return to stock as rik suggested.... then root, then install TWRP, then you'll be able to slap on whatever ROM you like.

safestrap could still be there if uninstalled incorrectly. trying re-installing it, then uninstall it within its own app. this worked for me.

Hey all,
Just rooted my Galaxy S4 yesterday on AT&T. Rooted it using tLoki + TWRP + Motochopper CASUAL method. I have TWRP recovery installed and can get to that no problem. I have the following build of Cyanogen flashed:
cm_jflteatt-userdebug 4.3 JLS36G f65925b07a test-keys
CyanogenMod version:
10.2-2013007-NIGHTLY-jflteatt
Baseband: I337UCUAMDL
Phone works flawlessly after the flash, but as soon as I power off or reboot, it just hangs at the Samsung Galaxy S4 screen and doesn't do anything. Only way out is to boot into recovery wipe and re-flash the Cyanogen ROM.
Any thoughts? I don't even know where to start...

This has been an issue on other devices. Flashing with cwm seems to have consistently worked. Once you get it up and running you can flash back to twrp for your nandroids. I've had to do this on my i727.

Thought maybe it was a ROM problem, but any I've tried have this same problem.
How do I go about replacing twrp with cwm? I have no idea how to replace the recovery. Any direction would be much appreciated :good:

This is already a known issue for Cyanogenmod 10.1 and 10.2. Using CWM will help it a little bit, but will still occur. There is no fix.

Get a cwm zip file and flash it like you would a rom but don't do any wipes. It'll flash on top of twrp and replace it. Do the same thing to go back to twrp.

Just download ROM Manager and flash CWM.
Which ROMs have you tried so far? Are they based off of CM?
Try to clear the delvik cache and the cache. I believe it will boot normal then

No, they're not all based off of CWM.
The last few I tried were BeanStalk and Task650 AOKP. The Task650AOKP booted up fine the first time, I did a reboot and then it was permanently stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S4 screen, even after I cleared cache's and factory reset with a re-flash. I tried that several times and still couldn'y get back in, so luckily I had a backup of my original rooted config and that booted up.
I did install rom manger just now and flashed cwm recovery...just afraid to reboot..haha. I wish I knew what the problem could be here...

Hmm that's weird, have you tried re flashing your recovery maybe something is broken there? have you tried other roms? If using TWRP try to update it or change to CWM or vice versa
Yea I updated to 2.6.3.4 which as of my knowledge is the latest
Sorry for my noobness :/ it is really bugging me as I think it has something to do with having cyanogen installed before but then again after pursuing the flash tool and restoring back to stock I can't think what is wrong
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app
Double Flash seemed to fix it
I flashed the ROM after returning to stock again and before flashing it wiped all partitions and it still stuck on boot so i went straight back into recovery and flash again this time without wiping anything as i was only writing over the StockMOD install and it seems to work
So the solution for me seemed to me to flash it twice wiping before the first and after it fails to boot just flash it again without wiping.
I now have it up and running and I'm very happy with it
Thanks for those who tried to help me much appreciated
