Nexus 7 not updating - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys. I guess you can say I am a noob at this.
My Nexus 7 is rooted, and ever since the new update came out, my nexus does not want to update. I tried to update in manually with a file via computer, but it does not update. It is currently running 4.1.1. I really want to update my nexus 7. Does anyone know any other way? I also tried using Nexus Toolkit, but it says that my USB debugging is not turned on, but it is turned on.
Can someone please help me?
Greatly appreciate it. Thank You

I tried unrooting it using the Nexus 7 toolkit program, but it says debugging is not turned on.
I tried to also update it using the updated version. I downloaded the version and put it on the nexus via computer. Then I went into custom recovery and tried to flash it, but it either said no file found or it tried to installed it but failed.

There are no apps blocked, but on SuperSU there is an option that says "Full unroot." should I try doing that?

Just download the image from Google and flash the System and boot files. Shouldn't take more than a couple minutes.

which toolkit? I've used wug's and its worked really well. I had to do the pdanet drivers though.

I did that, it seems like my device is not rooted. there is no SuperSU downloaded anymore. but there is still a problem, i tried to update it again, but again it goes into clockwork recovery and says installation aborted..
What can I do now?

Wugs root toolkit for nexus 7 problem.

Hey guys, I am having a hard time making this program work for my n7. I have the n7 32gb wifi with 4.2.1 JOP40D and I put those settings into the program, went into developers mode in the device, put the device on usb debugging and put it in airplane mode. Anyhow, I am trying to back up all apps and I get a message saying "Rebooting your device" then a second later it changes to "Waiting for your device to finish booting back up.." Well my device isnt rebooting or anything. I try manually rebooting but that doesnt change anything. I even tried backup all apps System apps+data and it does the same thing. When I try to exit the program it wont even close, it just hangs so I have to go into task manager to end it. Anybody have any ideas on what I am doing wrong? I want to make sure I have a backup file as I don't want to brick my device.
Check your drivers. There is a thread here on how to do it.

Something similar happened when I rooted mine. First of all make sure you have unlocked it, its very obvious while booting if you have unlocked the boot loader because a big open lock will show at the bottom of the screen during start up. Secondly, and the thing that worked for me, is to change the toolkit to "Android *.*.*.* any" in the model selection menu. As soon as I did that everything worked perfectly.
Thanks for the help guys, it turned out to be my drivers.
Wug's root toolkit won't recognize recovery version??
Hello, I recently upgraded to Wug's v. 1.6.2 and every time I start to use it, it says I have an "old" version of TWRP, 2.3.blah, blah and it wants to install update to latest 2.3.blah, blah........only thing is, I am on the latest 2.4.1.0!!!! Why does it not correctly recognize my recovery??? Thanks in advance.
My buddy is having issues with wugs toolkit getting drivers installed. He installs them but then when he goes to unlock and root its as if drivers are not there. Any ideas? I have been trying to help him with this to no avail he is running windows vista.
Thanks in advance for any ideas

My nexus won't root!

I've tried eveything, the Nexus toolbox, ADB, and even Chainfire's auto root. I've managed to unlock my bootloader, but whenever it comes to rooting (depending on which way I try to root) the command prompt will stay at "Downloading boot.img" or "Sending Recovery (7806 kb)" until i either reboot my Nexus or close cmd. How can i root this damn device? I'm going insane! Thank you!

Did you tried Wugs nexus root toolkit? Of not try it, you can't do something wrong it's sooo easy!

Thank you. But it still sticks on "Booting modified boot.img to enable running privileged commands..."
I've just noticed that My Computer/Windows Explorer isn't showing my Nexus when its connected as MTP. Could that be the problem? And if so, do you know how to fix it? thanks.

Try doing the whole process again from step one using the toolkit and install that will guide you step by step in installing the proper drivers and such. I usually do everything manually but I went into lazy mode and did everything just fine and with little time as well. :good:

It's a long process but i ended up having to use a Linux virtual machine (luckily i had one for work anyway).
No matter what toolkit or manual step to install drivers, i couldn't get Win7 to detect the phone, however, attaching it in VmWare to an Ubuntu guest system worked straight away. I got the adb/fastboot files by following instructions in a thread here on XDA and was rooted in minutes
May be worth a shot
Toolkits are a waste of space. Do it manually, it's only like four steps and you will see exactly what is happening and where (if anywhere) you're going wrong.

no i dont, this is crazy! i usually NEVER ask for help in these forums lol cause im always able to figure it out on my own, but right now im just completely stuck
after you uninstall and reinstall the usb drivers, reboot both your PC and your phone then see if your device is read correctly. which root method are you trying to use, btw? if you are using the method by @AdamOutler, he recommends running casual without the drivers or anything installed yet. literally just plug in the S4 and let casual do everything.

Flashed wrong stock recovery

Bonehead move I know. Now I need some help to fix. I flashed a stock 5.0 ROM and everything was working fine. Got the 5.0.1 prompt so I flashed a stock recovery (4.4.4 hence my problem). Of course the update wouldn't flash. Now to complicate things all of a sudden my PC won't detect my Nexus 4. It detects my wife's Nexus 4 fine so I'm thinking not a cable or driver problem. Ive tried multiple cables and reinstalled drivers with no luck. So now I need to root and or install custom recovery without a PC. Any ideas?

It doesn't show anything. Its as if it isn't connected at all. I've tried from the bootloader and recovery screens and also rebooted both phone and pc. Still shows nothing in device manager. Phone shows charging but no mtp notification or anything that it is connected. As soon as I plug our other nexus 4 in the pc recognizes it immediately.

I would try deleting your usb drivers on the pc, rebooting and then trying your device again. Flashing the 4.4.4 recovery should not have done anything to mess up your device

To root your device use towelroot from your device. Although I don't know what you're going to do with root. Also, can you get the device detected by your pc when you're booted into recovery or the device?

Towelroot wouldn't work. Says device isn't supported. Maybe it will get updated to work on lollipop. If I could obtain root I can flash custom recovery and start with a fresh install. Just have to find a way to do it with an app

[Q] Nexus 4 - Android 5.1 update installation error

Hi all ,
I got a notification that the 5.1 update is available in my phone. I pressed download and afterwards install, but when the phone reboots to install the update, after 3-4 seconds it just says "Error!" and nothing more.
Has anybody experienced this?
My phone has stock 5.0.1 and it's rooted.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

You can't be rooted. You have to be 100% stock system, kernel, and recovery for the ota to work.

Download it from here. Install the driver using the instruction in the same link. Then connect your phone in debugging mode. Consider the "backup" as well. you can backup your phone in the program(nexus root toolkit). Though, during the procedure, the program asked me if I want to preserve my data, and I said yes and there was no need to restore the backup (however it says that it might not work sometimes , so you should consider the backup).
select "Flash Stock+Unroot" in the program and select the andoird 5.1 from the list.
After it's done, let the phone boot up and then select root in the program. It will restart your phone couple of times and finally you'll have Android 5.1 rooted.
In my case, this did the trick: aaronhastings.me/updating-to-android-5-1-0-on-rooted-nexus-5
I hope it will help you, too.
Regards.
