This has been addressed many times. As far as the current most up-to-date user manual online has been revised to say it is not supported. We probably will not see USB OTG in the foreseeable future.
Optimus G does not look like it has USB OTG working yet either.
Don't bet your money on it
its very regretting for me...:crying:
is it a hardware issue...or software related?

google and lg wantedly did this
It's so stupid that one feature of Android 4.1 is USB audio, which is an impressive feature to have but then the flagship Nexus device doesn't even have USB OTG support so we can't use it.

As the title says, a driver for the N1 was developed that allows USB host. This means that most USB devices can be hooked up and work with the N1 (when the driver is used). In the video, a keyboard, mouse, and flash drive are shown being used on an N1. It also shows how what is displayed on the N1 can be displayed on a monitor.... I don't have my laptop with me atm or the necessary hardware but could someone try this out? I don't know if its been posted here yet or long ago and sorry if its the wrong section but I'd like the devs to see this (If you haven't already)!!

I got the New Samsung USB connection Kit today, I have the Galaxy Tab 7 from T-Mobile, and YES I do know that it will not work with the Froyo installed, but I got a great deal on it for $15.00 free shipping, so when the talented XDA people find a way, of which I am confident someone will!. I took some pictures so everyone could see the packaging if you have not already.
Yes I did try it just for fun and of course nothing happened.
Where did u buy it??

Samsung connector to standard usb.... - to connect usb devices to the gtab...
Again, apologies but is this different from the included cable that comes with galaxy tab? I understand the included cable also acts as a usb data cable for the tab.

Flash 2.3 and tell us how it goes.
Will this allow us to connect portable hardrives?

That's the point, right... We should be able to connect usb mice and keyboards... Keep us updated. And, where did you get it from?

surely this will work with GB? I think I might have to plop the $20 to try
sghcrabini where did you get it?
backtrack 5 distro+ usb wifi adapter in promiscuous mode= portable hacking? I do believe this little device may have just solidified making backtrack on tab working. since now we can connect a usb device into the virtual machine and use those drivers, are we free to play with the fun tools?
@egofreak great idea ...
i'm really waiting to write this on my tab

I wonder if it has a driver for USB DAC (external sound card) like the ipad, I want to connect my usb DAC to the tab.

There are so many possibilities this opens up.
sorry!! thats working???
Also interested in this, if we can get a source / purchase point...
Galaxy-Shadow >
you gave us only the first half of the information about the dongle ...the point is: does it work or not???
Hoping to get a response from the poster.
A lot of question had already been posted....it would be great if it really could work.
I do not want to disappoint you all, but my guess is that he orderd this http://www.123cellularsupply.com/products/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-10.1"-USB-Adapter.html
it is adapter for Galaxy Tab 10.1 ad probably won't work with Galaxy tab
the same as the another great accessory http://samsung.mobilefulfilment.com.au/Products/ViewProduct.aspx?ProductVariantId=EPL-3PHPBEGSTD
Hi
I'm guessing the answer is no, but is there a way of connecting the N7 to HDMI? Maybe using an OTG cable. I've searched, but couldn't find anything, so as I said, I suspect the answer is no.
Am aware of the HTC MediaLinkHD method, but was just wondering if there was a more direct route.
Thanks!
Otg is not possible. The device you use from micro usb is called an mhl adapter but I'm afraid the n7 will not work with an mhl cable

I know it doesn't, but BLOODY WHY?
Google have done this on purpose !
The only hope is Miracast.
The N7 has not been officially certified yet but Nvidia are signed up to it so its only a matter of time before it is.
You will have to buy a dongle for your TV or if you have a new TV it might get Miracast certification itself
Then the next step is a software update to enable the functionality

Lets hope they pull it out their arse real quick, but looking at the dock and case they will take bloody ages !
On one hand we all know that Nexus4 does not have the microSD card slot, on other hand I did not see explicitly somewhere stated that OTG is actually supported..
If anyone came across this matter please share it here..
Thank you.
I'm pretty much in the same position. I've been looking around the web to see how OTG is handled by the Nexus 7 and the Galaxy Nexus. Both support OTG out of the box, but what I have seen is that OTG works mainly for input peripherals (mouse, game controler, etc). For storage (flash drives and card readers) it seems you either have to get an app to read the storage device or root the N7/GNex in order to use it without an app.
It will probably be the same process as it was with the Nexus 7. Root, app, done.
Ok, giving this thread a bump. I asked Phil at Android Central (did the review of the N4, if you haven't read it I recommend that you do) about USB OTG with flash drives and card readers. Here's his answer (pretty much what theoneofgod said):

Ah, too bad. Seems like a pretty obvious thing to leave out. Thanks for the info, though.
I am very curious about slimport hdmi and otg at the same time... while charging. Possible?

Yes, thats what I think, but I havent seen anything yet.

And reading this: "The same connector on the device can be used for USB when a SlimPort® receiver is not connected" makes me think that the usb will only work as slimport or usb.
Check out the press release associated with this article:

However the more I read the less I see a difference with MHL

Same here. I am almost sure we will have otg and video out, but not both at the same time.
You don't need Root for OTG on Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7. etc...

This is read-only access to the flash drive, as far as I understand. If you want to copy something from the phone to the flash drive, I believe you'll need root and a driver, something like Stickmount.
I have a seagate drive that I can't seem to get to work on the usb port. Are there any apps I need to make it compatible?
As far as I know the nexus 4 does not support "usb on the go".
