This is my friend's SGS3. It was working perfectly normal till today.
Then after pressing the power button(the phone was locked), it didn't respond.
I tried to go every way I could. No download mode/ Recovery mode.
The phone was stock.(Never touched for any mod, not even rooted).
But now it just keeps rebooting irrespective of the mode I try to boot into.
Even with the power cable in, it just shows the battery bar and just keeps rebooting.
This is really irritating. The phone is hardly 4 months old.
It's a type of sudden death. But a weird death where the phone hasn't died nor is it alive.
I can go to the service center as I didn't have any modifications done, but it is really annoying that so many SGS3's die so quickly.
Any responses will be appreciated.

Yes. Even in the video you can see I tried to remove but the phone just keeps restarting.
Its annoying as hell!

.....of user with a quite expensive paper weight!!
I will go to my "nearest" (it's a 100 mile trip!) service station Monday next week and hope that they fix it very fast!
Just take yours to the service station indicated by Samsung in your country and it should be fixed at no cost!
Good luck!!!!

Yeh just when I though I'll do that the phone came to life out of nowhere.
It stared booting up.
I don't exactly know what the problem was, but now it seems to be fixed *hopefully*. :fingers-crossed:

It powers on but the LED screen does not come up, about all that seems usefull to me is the back and battery. Is there anything else worth saving?
No insurance on the phone? I was going to say get a replacement screen on ebay but I just checked the prices and my god its not worth it.
Would probably be worth keeping it. Parts prices will fall in the next few months and could replace the screen pretty cheaply if you hold on to it.
Why did you not ask this question in the other thread you started?
I'll buy it off of you. pm me
You could use the HDMI out and use it as a Linux PC.

I need the actual LED display also, not just the glass.
I do have insurance, but at the time it was still on the road so I claimed it lost, it was still there when I came back home so I picked it up.

Fair enough. I did not notice it was locked. Good luck!
save it for a rainy day. spare battery or whatever isnt damaged. i dont see the need to start a thread to help make a decision about something that does not help anyone else on XDA.
If anything we now know, not to leave our expensive device on a car and drive away. Thank you for the insight.

you only post a broken galaxy s3 pic + "booo" word.
just boooo word.
it just like you somehow
make a statement that galaxy s3 is a bad and so fragile device.
which is not,
it got ran by a truck,
of course it's broke.
anyway..
just wait for the parts price down,
it's still rare and pricy for now.

I get that, but I posted late at night and got up the next morning to a lynch mob, its not like I abandoned the thread. I claimed it as lost, It fell off on a very busy road and I wasnt to keen on trying to stop traffic to get it. On the way home it had worked its way closer to the side of the road and traffic was a lot lighter so I decided to venture out (mainly just to see if my SD made it). I had already made the claim though as lost, since I didnt plan on trying to retrieve the phone.

Hi Folks,
I have got a strange issue. First let me tell my story. My phone was fallen down 2 weeks before and the screen was broken but the functionality wise(including mobile data), phone was good. After 4 days, i replaced the screen from customer care, after that my sim card was not getting any signals. then i gave back to customer care and they fixed the problem with in 5 minutes. (On the same day night, my phone was fallen again to water, fortunately nothing happened, only the speaker was acting weird, it went OK after sometime)
Here the problem part starts, after the screen replacement, for the first time i turned on the mobile data on my phone. then magnetic sensor weird issue started. When the mobile data is on, the phone feels some magnetic noise and the S view cover display will flash through screen. This will happen like once in few minutes or in a such gap. it will just flash for 1 sec and go. When the mobile data is OFF/ in the flight mode, the issue never occurs. Any idea on this
I ran few tests, the results are in the attachment, i changed SIM and the behavior is same.
When i contacted the customer care, they said they have seen this issue and they can make it good by installing fresh s/w again. But my phone is out of warranty(so i need me pay for this) and i already tried cleaning my phone, wiping everything, installing fresh ROM's..
But nothing does the job
The issue is resolved by installing the latest Black edition firmware (from Samsung service center)
iSsue is coming again, s view is flashing when i am on a call or mobile data is on.

Warranty Issue ? But i will keep that screw safe with me so that whenever some problem arises i can put it back
I had the same issue on my I9500. It happens due to faulty magnet sensor.
I had to follow up with Samsung Service Center to replace the entire screen again because the sensor is a part of it. Take a video of the issue with some other phone, it helps to explain the Samsung Service.
Same issue I had with my phone. New mainboard and new screen didn't fix it. The magnetic sensor is part of the screen assembly.
Only thing that fixed it for me was to either run a CM11 based ROM or just set my mobile data to WCDMA only.
Problem hasn't returned once since I made that change.
PS: The L1 screw method didn't work for me

Well the screw issue does not work for all. Its is just a way ok keeping it away from bwing magnetized. Nothing more. Because the senor is locayed somewhat there, then the screw works as a potential magnet.
And about the edge and w+ thing, can someone tell me how that works technically ?

As you unscrew it do it with extra caution and precautions and with a proper screw driver because in India, to be soo true, the SSC guys have a habit of checking the screws and if they find any thing weird they straight away say "ye kahin se khulwaya tha kya" (did you get it opened from some local shop) amd start showing it to the other engineers and everyone of them will say "haan haan haan, lagta hai" (yes, we think)
So it gets a bit embarassing.
And if you can..get a plastic screw from some shop (if you find any) and place it instead to fill the void.

BTW i did tell those stupids at the service centre that a simple screw change will do as it's getting magnetized from magnetic sensor but still they couldn't help me with the issue.

Bro if you had "searched", there was no need of this thread. Its the 10th or the 20th of the same kind.
Plus if you want to exchange it and still something like this happens then?
Its not that an issue. Your phone is just 2 months old you cant even root it. If you couldve, then any CM rom or an xposed module wouldve done wonders.

Well touchwiz based roms might have this problem.
There is a huge difference between CM roms and TW roms.
And also S view cover works only with TW based roms..so..blinking is a hard to digest fact on CM based roms.

Uhhh...he did not mention which roms..
CM does not have any provision for the sview cover so how can itthe screen flash :/
CM based roms and Custom Touchwiz roms are different!
Touchwiz is just like the samsung we are using having mostly samsung stuff and look and feel is just like of samsung.
CM based roms are pure android. They are very stable and have no such thing as samsung apps or samsung's stuff.
A CM based rom looks as if we are using nova launcher (if you just use the launcher from play store, youll get a feel of CM roms) but CM roms infact are lighter, faster and smoother as they are pure android.

So I've been lurking here since I got my Nexus 4 (over two years ago) to find answers to my problems and usually I've been able to find an answer.
Now, I think my trusty Nexus 4 has finally given up the ghost. I powered it off Thursday night and when I went to power it on Friday morning, I got nothing. It had over 50% battery when I turned it off, so I don't think it's the battery. I've tried to boot it just about every way I can find, but nothing. It's been plugged in most of the weekend and still nothing.
So I'm thinking it's time to start looking for a new phone , what do you all think? If anyone thinks they've got a way to get it to boot up, just let me know, I'll give it a shot.
Thanks!
It sounds like it died. I don't have any suggestions on how to get it running if it doesn't even turn on.

No, if I plug it in to the PC it doesn't see it all.
I read through http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/tutorial-how-to-unbrick-n4-t2347060
but I don't think it will work because I can't get it to boot into any mode I've tried.
If you're running Windows 7 go into Start->Control Panel(view by large icon for ease of use)->Device Manager and go to Action and scan for hardware changes with the Nexus connected just to be certain that it's just not being detected properly in its current state.
Also there was another guy with a very similar problem that managed to fix his (does require dismantling the phone, but it's not too complicated)

Thanks for all the help, I saw another similar thread about the battery, but since it was about 50% when I shut it down on Friday night, I didn't think about doing it. I guess it will be the last shot. I have one more day left of time off from my knee surgery, so I might give it a go tomorrow and see what happens. I'll let you know how it goes.

If anything I'd say put a new battery in there (£17~) and you'd have peace of mind in the fact that it will be unlikely to happen again any time soon, plus you'd save anywhere upward of £150 on buying an upgrade!

I'm making a poll to try and narrow down the cause of bricking of the N7. It is not quiet clear what caused it. Combination of OS update that could have caused stress to the hardware might be the culprit. This is why I'd like to ask those with bricked N7 2013 to let us know when they purchased and started using the device in order to make a better conclusion.
User error. You really are not even going to consider that?

No. Working one day. Literally over night not working the next. Working before I went to sleep and powered off and not working when I woke up.
Where is option for "never bricked?"

Ditto. Went to use it in the morning, and deader than a doornail. Sorry, but too many have happened in a similar time frame to be just user error...
Pretty much the same story here. I was playing minecraft while plugged in and left it sitting and made coffee (waiting out the night) came back and the tablet was booting. That's it it's dead now.

Oh so this IS a common issue? I've been trying to unbrick this thing for over a week, same thing happen as the other guy said, worked before I went to bed woke up, won't boot, not even into recovery.

No its hardware failure... its not software issue...
As always this is an echo chamber.... 1 person "bricks" a device, another person reads about it, repeats it, third person says they heard about someone "bricking" a device, it comes full circle, now person 1 is validated because they heard about someone else "bricking" a device.
Those who haven't "bricked"? The 99.9999% of owners? "Don't vote".

I have edited the title now that it has gone to a full recall. As I get more information, if any, I will post it here.

For the few with this issue, I hope they offer some sort of compensation for our troubles.

I am a little confused by the article if it means a select market or a global recall.

Wonder if the issues are actually caused by cheap or defective chargers? I haven't had any issues with mine, it does not even get that warm during charge.

My battery gets so hot on Quick Charge, you can't hold the device. I had to turn the setting off, and it seems to help.

The charger that came with the device or the Samsung Quick Charge for the car.

Yep, just posted about this (accidentally) in the Q&A forum. It will sure be interesting to see how all this shakes out. I don't want to give up this phone, though... What a financial disaster for Samsung, but they can probably stomach it.
...
Damn...this will really suck. I'm pretty sure the turnaround time to get a new Note 7 will be bad. I use my spen a lot and I created a bunch of notes with he new Samsung Notes app which isn't backwards compatible with any of the other note phones.
Even if I backup to the cloud, what other device can I use to view Samsung Notes?
It looks like we will all be getting new phones...

I wonder how that will work. I'm okay with waiting for the Sprint store to get them in stock and then I go exchange it, but if they want me to send it in then wait for a replacement, that's a no go...
Considering I already shattered the back of my note 7 I wonder if they'll be nice enough to give me a new one...

This kind of scares me though. Sometimes my phone gets unbelievably hot while charging specially overnight. I wake up because I get burned by my phone and have to disconnect it from the charger so it can cool down.

That is not normal. My note 7 is perfectly cool (battery temperature below 90 F) while charging overnight.
All of the major news outlets are picking up on the recall: http://money.cnn.com/2016/09/02/technology/samsung-galaxy-note-7-recall/
Has anyone asked or heard anything from Sprint? I'm guessing we won't hear anything until all of the details are worked out. I've kept an eye on my phone and no overheating thus far...
According to a different article that I read as of yesterday (9/1) 35 devices out of the 2.5 million or so sold have experienced the issue. Percentage wise it's a very small risk. Just be careful and don't use cheap aftermarket chargers... (I know, I know, several were reported to use the Samsung charger).
Personally I wonder if it's a scaling problem (i.e. battery size) with their fast charge technology... This is the largest battery they are fast charging as far as I know. (I did NO research to verify any of this).

I've wondered the same thing. It's amazing (and nice) how fast these batteries charge, but I'd be okay if it was 25% to 50% slower. That would still be pretty quick.
Even better yet, use a battery that can handle the current fast charge rate.
My phone charges cool also but i don't wanna worry about future issues, the phone is fairly new

Wow..
I called the Sprint store I got my phone from and they said don't bring it in because Samsung is replacing the phone directly. It sounds like the carriers are not going to take responsibility for any issues.
SMH
I love this phone. But how will samsung give us new phones? I called my local sprint store and they said don't bring it in? Are we supposed to be without a phone for some weeks or more? It is crazy, to think most of us just got this phone a few weeks ago.
