So I just got back from the Verizon store about 10 minutes ago and I thought that I would write my impressions. Keep in mind this is just my opinion and I figured it might help some out that have not had the chance to try the Incredible or may be on the fence with it or the Nexus One (yes, I know that the N1 is no longer coming to Verizon =( but for some a provider means nothing)
Some up front information. I am a long time iPhone user (owned all three) and switched to the ATT band Nexus One about a month ago. I personally, love Android and I am very happy with the switch. I have the newest build of Cyanogen Mod (2.6.33.2). I didn't really do any up front tests (i.e, speedtest,browser, or acid etc) , and this review is more to do with my impressions I did however run the two phones side by side and spent over an hour with it.
Ok, so let's get to it. The first thing is aesthetics and to be honest I thought the Incredible looked nice, and also felt pretty good in hand. It seems to be built good and it seems to have the exact same "rubbery" feeling that the battery cover of the N1 has, but it is on the entire back of the phone. The back cover didn't bother me to much at all and I felt that it added to the whole "droid" feel that Verizon and it's partners are trying to pull off. There are a couple things that would worry me if I was an Incredible owner and that is the material they used when making the phone. I couldn't get over the fact that the phone felt a little cheap, but I still get the feeling that it would last if dropped. I don't really get that feeling with my Nexus One. I feel the build of the Nexus One is a little better (i.e, aluminum), but I have always felt that the phone would not with stand the slightest bit of fall from even 3-5 feet (I have never dropped mine so I really have no experience, again this is only my opinion based on how the phones feel).
The Incredible is fast, really fast. I had the same feeling when I used my Nexus One for the first time and as far as I can see there really is not a huge difference in speed between the two phones. But, there is a giant difference in "touch" the Incredible eats my Nexus One's lunch when it comes to overall touch and snappiness. The new sensor really adds to the whole Android experience and of all the Android phones I have tried none so far even come close to the touch screen on the Incredible. My Nexus One was great and the iPhone's I had was even better, but finally we have an Android phone (in my opinion) that not only competes with the iPhone on touchscreen and multitouch technology, but the Incredible one ups it. It really made the whole experience a lot more enjoyable on the phone. Everything, seems to work like Android was designed to work.
The next big thing I noticed and tested was the N1 trackball vs the Incredible's optical sensor. The sensor was nice and I have mixed feelings between the two. I mean everyone knows that an optical sensor looks better and should last a hell of a lot longer than a trackball and I have always felt that the trackball on the N1 looked way out of place. I have gotten really used to the trackball and I use it quite a bit and it is a lot easier to use than the optical sensor. You won't see a big difference at all if you are just flipping between screens or jumping to a text needed in the browser, but you will when choosing apps (but, really who does that anyways when you have touch) Like I said I have mixed feelings I love the look of the optical sensor, but I really feel the trackball is a little more responsive. It took me a while to get used to the trackball so I am sure if I owned the phone I would get a little more used to it and my opinion would change. I must say that I don't use the trackball often so if I had the choice I am sure I would choose the optical sensor.
Some of the other things I noticed that didn't make a huge impression was Sense vs Vanilla Android. I have used sense off and on with both my N1 (Modaco ROM), and my fiance's Droid Eris. I don't have much of an opinion, but I would give just a slight edge to Vanilla Android just because of the update situation however, if Google really adjusts Android like they are rumored to do and the update situation is non existent my opinion would change and I would like Sense. I guess we will see, but as far as some saying that having Sense will bog down Android I must say that I didn't experience that at all. They both ran just as smooth and will the Incredible's wonderful touch sensor I would give a slight favor to the Incredible with sense over the N1.
I spent about ten minutes with the camera/video camera on both phones and although I couldn't tell a huge difference in the pictures and videos (I know the Incredible sports a 8 mp and the N1 5mp), but I was also not able to upload any pictures to a computer to blow them up. I did send them to my email and I will post later if I notice a big jump or not. I still would give the Incredible the advantage just because why wouldn't I? 8mp is always going to beat 5mp and dual flash is nice.
Next one of my biggest gripes about the N1 and that is the touch sensor buttons on the bottom of the phone. The N1 like many probably know work and work well, but you have to touch the top two thirds of the label to get them to respond at all and I did find for the first little bit of owning the phone I often touched the home screen button when typing a text or email. With the Incredible these work perfectly. Not only do you not have to aim your finger, but they also worked every time I attempted to use them. They are in a different order than the N1 so that took me a minute to get used to, but no biggie. This is the way HTC and Google should of made the N1 work and personally I think they got it right with the Incredible.
I don't have a problem with my N1 when it comes to the 3G dropping issue and that could be that I got the ATT one or maybe I just got lucky. I did try to cover the bottom of the Incredible and it didn't seem to dip at all. Also, there was a Moto Droid right next to the Incredible and they seemed to get the same service so that should be a relief for many.
I wish that I would of had a couple days with this phone so that I could test many other aspects with it like the battery, further tests on 3G and wifi, the overall build, and even the speed. Really the Incredible is a nice phone and in a lot of ways I feel that it lives up to the hype. In my opinion I found my self wishing that I had the screen touch sensor in my N1 it really makes a giant difference even tho the N1 isn't all that bad. I could really do without the extra mega pixels in the camera and to my knowledge they both record at the same levels (I may be wrong with this and if I am then I am sorry). I do wish that the touch sensors on the bottom of the N1 worked as well as the Incredible, but I can live without it. Like I said sense vs Vanilla until I hear differently I would rather get the quicker updates, but if Google addresses this issue I would love to Sense on my N1 (Yes, I know I can with Modaco Sense ROM). The trackball is something that doesn't make a huge difference, but I do worry about how well it will hold up after months of usage.
My final feelings are that although the Incredible is the better phone it is not worth switching over to Verizon for it (although yes I do believe that Verizon is the better provider, but I have a family plan and a contract and that is what I am speaking of). The Incredible looks and feels nice, but I must say I like the overall look and feel of the N1 a little more. Like I said, I couldn't get over the fact that the Incredible felt a little fragile because of the plastic material the phone is made of, but then again the N1's build doesn't feel all that more solid of a phone. The N1 screen looked to me to be a little wider (I could be wrong) and although it sounds wierd it did make a difference, at least to me it did. It will be interesting to see when the Incredible will get the desk dock and car dock because these are big selling points to me with my N1. The deal breaker is the touch screen and how it works. This is the biggest selling point of this phone and that makes me want it, but there is one big thing with my N1 that I really enjoy and that is the wonderful developers behind the N1. I love how easy Google made to root this phone and I really think that a lot of developers make our phones all the more fun to use. Until, I can see the Incredible get these abilities (I am sure they will with great people like Paul the other day rooting the Desire) I would have to go with my N1.
I hope this was helpful to some and that people don't think I was to harsh to either side. I tried my hardest to not come off like a "fanboi" and tried to be as unbiased as possible. I really went in today looking to see if this phone lived up to its hype and I believe it did. I can't see many flaws with owning this phone and I welcome all of our new Android brothers and sisters to the party. Let me know how you all think and thanks for reading I know it's long as hell. Fair enough. I'd say it's just a case of the Incredible coming out later, hence with better hardware. Newer stuff almost always have better components. That's just the way gadgets are. The thing that irks me are people saying that the "old" stuff SUCKS now because there's "new" stuff now. These are the idiots that should be shot.
I too considered the Incredible, but for some reason I felt pangs of loss when I considered not having my Nexy anymore.

It seems like it's a much better phone in almost every way (touchscreen, soft buttons, camera).
The only downside is what will happen with 2.2. This has yet to be proven, so it can't be counted as a negative -- yet. Time will tell. Until then, I'm definitely envious since in my eyes it is definitely the better phone. Although I think the N1 is definitely sexier

That's cause its not made to be on the Nexus, and Paul doesn't have the Desire kernel source to make it a complete build. I don't even know how much of a speed increase that would cause regardless.. I don't like when people say this (what you said) because the Nexus was never made to run Sense UI, and therefore doesn't have the correct optimization, the stock 2.1 Google experience is the Nexus's child.. not Sense. Im assuming you knew this.. though. Oh and edit, everything I said could possibly be wrong. I am not a ROM baker, or developer.
I wish the things that made the Incredible better interested me, I dont take many pictures.. my touchscreen doesn't irritate me.. and the soft buttons do their job well. Another good score for Android though, with next being the Evo - and those new phones Dell are working on.

No that isn't weird at all and I feel the same. It isn't a big jump from the Nexus One and even if it was I don't feel comfortable doing it until developers have had their way and have root. It will be interesting to see. If I was going to make a jump (which as of now I wont) I would make the jump to the EVO. The Incredible just doesn't have enough over the N1 specs wise.

I agree to the fullest! I saw some kids on Engadget saying that the Incredivble is faster in every aspect than the N1 and that is not even close to the fact. It is a great phone and yes Verizon and HTC have fixed some of the N1's flaws but all in all this phone is a plastic Desire (that is not a bad thing at all and to each his own) I just wanted to let people know the impressions I got from the phone. To be honest I hope this phone is even more popular than the Moto Droid and then a bunch of people will get it and get more developers interested in Android. I hope it is a huge mainstream success. I love the idea that I have never seen a N1 rather than mine. They can have all that. I love how easy it is to root the N1 and all the talented developers behind it.

I agree the Nexus is a lot sexier. I held them up by each other and both look like great designs. The Incredible has nice specs but most are just small upgrades the Incredible's touch screen is the big difference, but so is the N1 being Google's baby and we will get the upgrades a lot faster. That to me is a bigger selling point. If that changes then I might change my mind. The internal memory, better camera, and better buttons just don't warrant a provider jump in my eyes.

Oh yeah I definately agree a hundred percent. It is a whole different ball game. To be fair Paul's Modoco is still in alpha and it is amazing that he even got it to work. We are lucky that we even get the chance to try it out to be honest.

You seem to have the same impression as me. I think that stock Android runs just as good on the Nexus One as Sense does on the Incredible. It comes down to overall what people prefer and for me I prefer Vanilla. None of us will be on top of the Android game for long. Every couple of months a better phone is coming out. It happened to the Moto Droid, now the Nexus One, and soon the Incredible with the EVO 4G. Overall, as Android grows we will all reap the benefits. I really think that the specs in the N1 will be relevant for quite awhile and we wont see many phones that completely stomp it. At least not for another year or so. I am happy with my purchase (especially getting rid of that damn iPhone 3Gs)

Good review man. I also agree that I'd be more interested in the Evo than the Incredible. Partly because of the bigger screen, partly due to the 4G (though my current provider's, T-mobile, HSPA+ might be faster), and partly because I can't stomach paying $40 more a month over Sprint or T-mo.
Do we know yet if the Evo 4G will have the Maxtouch touchscreen?

I've heard this over and over again and I have to agree - The Droid incredible has a look that pales in comparison to the N1.
Having a great phone that also looks amazing is a huge draw to the reason we get new technology (just ask apple and the people who actually bought a $1700 MacBook air). If looks weren't important for our hardware then we would all be driving economy cars with better MPG specs and having Droid incredibles, instead though we have nice looking cars and a near perfect Nexus 1 that looks amazing.

I don't know if we know for sure if it will or not, but if I was a betting man (and i def am) I would say that HTC and Sprint would be stupid not to. I also believe that I read somewhere that all HTC phones will now have that sensor in it. I can't prove that as I am going to work now, but I will look for the source while I am at work and try to post it (don't you love smart phones). I know people laugh at the term "superphone" but when you compare these phones to the iPhone or Blackberriers these phones are def more of a "superphone" than a smartphone. Apple is going to have their hands full this year and it will be very interesting to see how it plays out. I for one don't care what Apple does in June I would be stupid to jump off the Android band wagon we just have way to much going on.

IMO even the EVO is only worth upgrading to if you need 720p recording or would value HDMI out. Personally, I would love to have HDMI (don't care for the HD recording all that much) but it still wouldn't justify ditching my N1. I'm not going to upgrade until the N1 ceases to run newer Android software effectively or significant processing upgrades are made (ie. Dual Core). Who knows I may change my mind but that's how I feel right now.

I'm with you. Most picky gadget dweebs tend to upgrade for the sake of having the latest and greatest even though it's only marginally better than the last "toy" they had. I upgrade my phone like I upgrade my PCs: it's only worth upgrading if the new stuff is at least 10 times more powerful than the last one. Which in most cases can take a few years of waiting. AND it's gotta cover what I "need". Most stuff that I "want" should be an included bonus, which the N1 covers quite well (A2DP, wifi tethering).

The touch buttons on the Incredible seem to be actually on the button, unlike the Nexus. And the camera is amazing!
I played around with the HTC Incredible for a few minutes today.
- I did not like the look and feel (ID) of the Incredible nearly as much as I thought I would. It looked and felt cheaper than the N1. The shape is boring and the all glass/shiny front does not look good. I am much more pleased with the look and feel of the N1.
- The software shortcut buttons (back/menu/home/search) work quite a bit better on the Incredible compared to the N1 with less chance of an unsuccessful press.
- I didn't notice a huge difference in the touchscreens like I had read about. I didn't try the multitouch test.
- Scrolling between home screens didn't seem as fast as my N1, but I am running a custom ROM and kernel on the N1.
- I like the trackball on the N1 a lot more than the optical sensor on the Incredible. It wasn't very smooth rubbing your finger over the optical sensor. The interface between the sensor and the phone casing was a little rough. The trackball is definitely smoother.
Overall I am happy having an N1 and, if it ever existed, I have lost all Incredible envy.
I'm in Canada so I'll most likely never see one of these guys.
How much were they selling for no contract at Best Buy?
I felt the exact same when I looked at it, in fact, I hated the optical track pad also, n1 scrolled wayyyyy faster with it, and pushint it in is hard on the incredible, but Still I welcome it to the family
I love the trackball. I don't know why so many don't like it. optical track pad just seems like it would be a pain.
I found a trick for the nexus track ball, if you just give it a super hard swipe, it will go clear across an entire sentence me text in one swoop. I see people complain its too slow but its not if you give it a really fast swipe.
I just played with the incredible this morning. first thought is the track pad is horrible compared to the track ball. no matter how fast I swipe my finger, it only moves the cursor a few letters. the nexus track ball will move an entire sentence, like 7 words, if you give it one fast swipe.
the incredible is very light weight, but it just feels plasticky compared to the nexus. the nexus feels like a high quality appliance to me, no contest imo.
the speed of the OS felt pretty much the same. I'm running stock ROM on my nexus, not yet rooted (but I will soon enough!).
overall I can't believe anyone would even feel remotely bad about having the incredible released with slightly better specs, the nexus seems like the better phone to me in every way. the one thing I would like is the dual led flash. I don't care about the 8 gb memory or 8 mp camera one bit. but the extra flash would be nice for those random times when you need that photo in a bar or something, cause the nexus single led isn't very good.
ill take the dual mics over the dual flash though

The only people who feel bad about the Incredible being slightly better are the whiners.
IE the people who weren't happy with the Nexus One even without any other similar device having been announced yet.
NO PHONE is perfect.
Case in point: The Incredible, despite having slightly better hardware, feels cheap and is ugly / boring.
How about we wait until FroYo gets (leaked) and we have it first?

I really wanted to disagree with that post to not seem like an N1 fanboy, but I agree.. the Incredible is a giant plastic brick, we will get updates first, and the hardware is only slightly upgraded. It is Incredible, but if you have a Nexus.. its not worth switching over to.
If the Incredible does get developer support, and Froyo gets ported.. then.. um.. maybe we should be worried then. What if Froyo is released quickly for it? We won't have much to brag about but developer support, and.. sexiness? And then if it gets developer support, as much as we have, then it will really be a problem. They may have took root security measures like on the Desire and Legend though, so it may not even matter.
that's what I'm saying, the nexus is such a better built phone that I don't care if the incredible has a 5 gHz CPU, I'd always take the nexus every time.

well I was being half sarcastic, but not totally to be honest. sit a nexus next to an incredible and tell me "pick on for free and It's yours, but only one" and I would take the nexus every time no question.
The Nexus One is the first phone I've ever owned that I have no envy of any future phones. It fulfills every single need I have and I can see myself using it beyond 2 years. It's THAT good.
Yup. I agree with above poster. I've never had the latest and greatest and nothing available better. And there won't be for a while, in Canada. I am by no means regretting my purchase and am absolutely in love with the Nexus One. I haven't put it down since I got it 2 and a half weeks ago.
If you have one, love it. If not, then sell it and get yourself an Incredible. Then regret switching.

the only thing that really annoys me about the phone is battery life. but i guess this is something that no smartphone will do any better in the forseeable future.
I played with an Incredible at a verizon store yesterday. It does seem thinner and snappier.
Still prefer the stock UI.
Biggest sense plus is the exchange server support.

have you tried that GSM Auto (PRL) setting in the other thread? it really seems to work. i have had HORRIBLE battery life for the last month. my battery would die in about 5 hours or maybe 6. so far with this new setting, i am at 4 hours and still at 85%. its made a huge difference so far. but i'm still testing to really know.
battery life is not _horrible_ for me, but it's not great either.
i do have the extended 2800 mAh battery from SEIDO, and i manage to get 3 days out of it. now if this were the performance with the stock battery, i would be a happy camper.

Wonddering if I could get your thoughts about the step up that the Desire HD will be in terms of performance and functionality? I have the option of upgrading to one for an extra $120.
Pros I can think of so far:
- 4.3" vs 3.7" screen but not that much bigger weight/size wise
- More RAM
- 1.5GB onboard memory
- Faster 45nm Snapdragon processor
- Better Camera (8MP), dual LED flash - according to the engadget review though its still a "camera phone" and thus is only really for random snaps.
Cons:
- Same problem as G2 (Desire Z) with only temporary root
- If the above problem is not solved, slower updates, no custom ROMs
Any other thoughts? My other concern is that the bigger screen aside, performance and functionality wise it doesn't do anything in particular that the N1 can't. However, is $120 a cheap enough jump?

My recommendation is to wait for the Christmas. Google may have a surprise for us (nexus 2? Probably not, but maybe something else), Samsung just said they are announcing a new phone on Nov 3..

I have both and I must say, the big screen makes SO MUCH of a difference!
When I put them side by side, the HD's screen just looks amazing! Clear and sharp, I have to remind myself that its still at the same resolution.
And of course, watching movies, reading comics, books, playing games, etc. is all much better.
I think its worth the upgrade.
Another point - No more worrying about A2SD. My N1 has A2SD enabled to be able to take the number of apps I have installed (DHD has same apps and also 680MB free mem still).
The battery life, OTOH, is still to be tested. I know I get great battery life with enomther's rom on my N1. The DHD feels more like I have cyanogen's rom on it

Cons:
- Same problem as G2 (Desire Z) with only temporary root
- If the above problem is not solved, slower updates, no custom ROMs
Any other thoughts? My other concern is that the bigger screen aside, performance and functionality wise it doesn't do anything in particular that the N1 can't. However, is $120 a cheap enough jump?

I want the desirehd as well, but theres two things im gonna wait for... 1 - permament root, 2 - 2.3 based CM rom.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll see what happens when it arrives in 2 weeks. I think at this stage the only thing which would make me keep it is for the extra 0.6" screen size.
I'm also getting a 10" tablet too, so the extra size may be redundant as I transfer some of my tasks across.
My question to you, OP, is how often are you capable of upgrading your phone? Are you gonna be stuck with this phone for a while? If you're financially capable of upgrading let's say every 6 months with no problem at all, then i don't see why not, more phones to play with. You'd still be able to get the next best thing come first half of next year.
I don't upgrade all that often for the sake of it. I've recalculated (correctly) and its actually going to cost me $270 for the upgrade
Which in my opinion probably isn't worth it in regards to the step up it provides relative to the N1.
If I really want to upgrade I might get a Vibrant, which has similar specs to the Desire HD, but which is about the same price as the N1 at the moment.

Dhd is a mean phone, no bones about it but the no hacking thing is a little bit of a turn off for me.
Gonna wait for a bit to see what the nexus two will be like first. After all the google phone will always be the development phone and ergo the hackers phone.
For a person who doesn't wish to hack and just wants a good phone I would recommend the dhd over anything else on the market right now however.

It does look pretty smart but the one thing I would say is 4.3" isn't very friendly on the thumb if your hands are of an average/large size.
I get to play with a lot of phones and the Touch HD and Nexus One/Desire thereafter were built with the optimum size screen for touch/visibility (in my opinion).
I used an HD7 today and just like the HD2 it looks great but it really is a stretch to use one hand to operate all areas of the screen.
It's definitly impressive but I should be able to hold my cuppa in one hand and browse etc with the other.
I really hope with the big willy competition going on with the manufacturers that the usability (which lets be honest is checking mails,texts, social media and browsing for most users) isn't completely forgotten about.
Hopefully 3.7" will survive.

+1 the temp root thing is making me wary of changing too.

Nothing against the DHD itself, but thanks guys for reinforcing that relative to the N1 the DHD is not that much of a step up.
So a mate got this phone last night. I had a play around with it for a little bit. ITS BLOODY HUGE!! 4.3" i think is just too big! Build quality etc seems very good. nice screen but just a bit to big for my liking! Has some nice new options though with Sense 2.0
At work we got the Omnia 7 (WP7) which has a 4" screen. Now this i think is the perfect size!
I upgraded to a desire hd after my nexus one broke. The desire hd feels a lot more expensive than the nexus but in my opinion not worth an upgrade. I miss the hackability of my old nexus and I especially miss cyanogen mod.
Don't get me wrong, overclocking the desire hd to speeds around 1.5ghz added with the better gpu makes for one hell of a speedy device. It's a great phone but its not that much better
Kinda pointless post but was bored at work so thought I'd share my views for anyone else who's on the fence about getting it:
I was waiting for CES announcements to see what was coming out in the future but changed my mind and decided to jump in and get a Nexus S. I was coming from an old WinMo phone that I've had for ages (having been a poor student), which probably isn't the best base to be commenting on this but I'm used to android as I've been deving on my housemates HTC Desire HD.
I'm so glad I did, I won't lie and say the phone is perfect as no phone is. It is, however, a true pleasure to use and looks gorgeous (especially compared to WinMo).
I mostly just wanted to put a nice positive post on the forums because there's allot of people moaning about one thing or another to-do with the phone and as with anything people only tend to post when they have a problem or issue. Especially regarding the specs being current gen and not next gen; and therefore a lack of longevity. It's easy to forget that being a "Google" phone means that regardless of hardware it will be around for a while, and will still be enjoyable and exciting to use during that time thanks to the ongoing updates.
The device feels solid and premium, even the plastic backing, and I prefer it in the hand and visually to my house mates Desire HD (which is also a great phone). Battery life is better than most equivalent devices. Sound is crisp and clear. Reception on the same network has been better that the HD. Everything has worked perfectly. The screen is beautiful, especially if you like darker backgrounds.
My only disappointment is the lack of gorilla-glass, but that's not a biggy for me.
The phone wasn't meant to be bleeding edge. It was meant to work, and work well. It does, and to quote Mr. D's "I'm loving it".
Thumbs up Google and Samsung.
Even though people are going crazy over the dual-core phone announcements at CES, but none of those phones won't be available in months and they still will launch with Froyo.
The Nexus S still uses the most powerful harware available at the moment but the feature that it's really marketed for is the fact that it will be running vanilla Anroid and will get update priority.
I have this phone and I can easily say it's one of the best android phone the market. Here in the UK there is no 4G so all this no HSPA+ stuff doesnt really affect me.

I understand and agree with wanting the Nexus S for the timely and clean updates, but I've always called people out when they play the "I don't need it" card when specs are compared. There are many things on phones we don't "need," but that doesn't abate people's disappointments. Granted, it goes both ways; people will find anything to complain about (like if it had 720p recording, some would say it should have 1080).
Everyone is different, everyone has opinions, and everyone can voice them at an open forum.
I love the clean black look of the Nexus S. No emblems, no harware, and no icons.

Amen. The SAMSUNG on my i9000 and the T-Mobile & Samsung on the Vibrant are just butt ugly compared next to the totally unmarked NS.
Still, that ugly Verizon logo on the new Samsung LTE phone won't keep me from buying it!

Agreed! My first 'real' smartphone too (my Nokia E63 could be classed as a smartphone, albeit not a very good one, suited me at the time though) and I absolutely love it! I have finally jumped on the Android wagon (lack of money prevented me before ) and I am not looking back!

Same with Australia. We have WiMAX but only in Perth and a couple of other places (not in my area though) but it doesn't support phones. So everything is perfect for me! Sure there are other features that would have been nice to have, but I would never had really used them, so overall it doesn't detract from the experience.

Seriously, I love this thing.
I think I'm one of the few when I say that I like the build. It looks very good, all black. Plastic makes it lighter, and it's firmer. Only con is that plastic is slippery, and of course fingerprints. The Contour Display, although subtile, makes it very appealing, as does the chin on the back.
Especially with Super AMOLED and it's deep blacks, the phone is awesome. I really like the notification bar fading into the phone itself, and that the buttons are not visible when the phone is turned off. We will get the Nexus S with Super Clear LCD here, which will be nice for lighter interfaces and for browsing the web, but I am a little bit jealous on the Americans and the Britons. With Super AMOLED a dark background looks much better, and in combination with the black finish of the phone, it's beautiful.
The Nexus S is my 4th android phone & I love it. I started with a T-Mobile Pulse (I really liked that phone, coming from a Nokia n97!), then the HTC Hero, HTC Desire & finally the Nexus S.
I thought the screen was good on my Desire (when I'm not outside lol), but the 4 inch NS screen is just amazing. I had to get used to a few things though...
1) No notification light (noled app is a good solution, but obviously uses a little bit of battery as the screen is on).
2) lack of trackball (this is just personal as I used the trackball a lot for moving the curser when typing).
3) the phone is really light & a bit slippery (i love the handsets design, but I'll get a case once I find one I like).
4) no sense ui (not for the Widgets, I jus prefer the dialler, gallery & SMS apps over the stock android ones).
Overall, the points I mentioned have not stopped me loving this phone. They are just things I became accustomed to from my previous android phones. I also miss the excellent Facebook integration from sense ui (birthdays in my calendar for example).
Having said all that, I still wouldn't swap my Nexus S for any other phone on the market today. I'm a big fan of complete customisation & I haven't even mentioned the ease of getting full root (anyone tried to get 'S-OFF' on a Desire lol) or the fact I have gingerbread out of the box! Finally, any phone with a screen bigger than 4 inches is just too uncomfortable for me.

I came to the Nexus S from the Evo, and I have to say that I like it more in almost every way. I do, however, have one legitimate complaint, and that is that the wifi connections are very weak.
I just switched over to the NS4G from the Epic 4G today and after playing with this for a solid 8hrs now.
NO REGRETS.. It's fast right out of the box.. I almost didn't even bother rooting it I was so impressed.. Then I did root, flashed mikeyinid's v.5 ROM and WOW. It just got faster...
Amazing phone.. I will never.. Ever.. Go back to a non-Google phone again.. Yeah, it's plastic on the back, but it feels solid.. Not wobbly and cheap like my Epic felt. Swore Tyco made that thing.
I love my Nexus S too, its my first Droid phone, although my girlfriend had the mytouch. I learned how awesome droids are from rooting and installing a custom ROM on. I had jailbroken iPhones and iPod for my self and friends in the past but the freedom of the Droid was what made me want one. I was going to get the mytouch 4g but after I saw the nexus s at best buy, I knew I had to get it, the screen is by far the best looking, and its just sexy. I have had for two months and I love it. James Bond Sabi Dee UV kernal is so smooth, running cm7.

I may as well plugin my thoughts too. I just passed down my Nexus One to my girlfriend and got the Nexus S. I'm quite happy with it!
Things I like about it versus the N1...
- 4" is my new favorite size
- The haptic feedback feels better
- Light weight
- SCLCD makes texts easier on the eyes
- It feels faster overall... smooth scrolling in stock launcher!
- Camera mic picks up much better audio when recording
- Battery feels like it lasts longer after heavy use!
Things I don't like about it versus the N1...
- It's plastic and I'm very hesitant when putting it in my pocket - need to find a case soon
- Display colors don't seem as vibrant, but definitely clear and great color reproduction... just not excellent (again, I'm using the SCLCD version not AMOLED)
Summary: No regrets switching my N1 for NS! The size, speed and battery life made me one very happy owner!

How would you rate the battery on the Nexus S compared to the Desire?
Ahh while we are praising our NS's, I want to say something about how I felt when I first got my phone. Ordered it beginning of April from negri-electronics and was a bit skeptical at first, but after being brainwashed by the ads online and playing with the NS that was on display at Best Buy, I couldn't wait any further.
The day came and I had been creeping on the tracking status every 2 minutes to check the location of the package. I had gotten it expedited so I'd get it as fast as possible, yet the shipping day felt like the longest day ever when I was sitting and waiting outside my house with 3 cups of coffee, my laptop, and season 6 of The Office. After waiting for about 283828833 hours (in reality 3 hours) my package came! Felt like christmas when I opened that box, popped in my sim, and watched that sexy Nexus Bootscreen in awe much like my first time last year.
My cellphone journey was weird.
I started out with a small nokia phone that lasted me quite a long time. Then I 2 christmases ago I got a blackberry. My mother had picked up the N1 at that time and I loved it so much I traded her my blackberry (after countless times of persauding the blackberry was faster and such.. ) From then on my love for the Google Phone spread like wildfire.
And now I'm with SNS. Not Samsung Nexus S, my Sexy Nexus S.

Well, I loved it initially ! Many sleepless nights and I was craving to have one for almost a month.
I understand the need to bring in better camera, better hardware, bigger screen and other better specs we all were craving for. Also, many people are crazy about it!
But, after using it for 2 days, I started thinking why google screwed up nexus 6 with SIZE and WEIGHT ! It is just too "BIG" and "HEAVY". It made my phone almost useless. I wish there was a nexus mini 6, which is lighter and smaller.
Being a nexus and google stock android maniac, I can't use any other cell phone but my nexus 5.
So, I am back to nexus 5. It does feel fresh with the lollipop update. And, I am happy about it.
I am ready to wait for one more year, hope google will pick the best one which is comfortable to use for all users next time !
P.S: It was just my experience and opinion. I am always an android lover. Don't BOMB me !

You could try motox 2014, that is the closest to stock android in almost the n5 size.

I can see how the size of a phone can make it useless to some people...but the weight shouldn't be relevant. A mere 5-6 years ago (and less) phones were FAR chunkier and far heavy, and we hand no choice cause that was all there was on the market.
To the OP....their are plenty of GPE phones out there that have awesome specs, and the screen size you want. No need to wait another year.
Wow, heavy? Really? I don't see it as heavy at all. Especially for the size. To each his own I guess, but maybe you should've given it a few more days. Hasn't even been a week yet.
If anything the phone is solid, not heavy, which I'm enjoying.... I was doing wrist curls for the past month so maybe that's why it's n not heavy to me

Phone size is a preference. I have had a large phone for years and prefer it. I understand that Google lost a lot of fans by going to a large phone. And many of you think they "messed up". But Google literally won my business by making a large device. And I know I'm not alone. I had been resigned to putting up with touchwiz another year when I found out about shamu. Point is Google did not mess up just because you choose a different device. And its OK to not want a large phone just as much as its OK to like a huge device. That's why they put out the whole be together not the same campaign.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I went from the rather diminutive 2013 Moto X to the Nexus 6 and I certainly have no regrets. It's big, yes, but after a few days with it, I'm very happy with my choice. So much easier to type on it than my X. Happy with the performance, screen resolution, camera. Front camera is kinda weak compared to my HTC M8, but love the rear shooter. Happy all around. Gets fantastic service, too. Even better than my Moto X, and that thing got excellent signal.
I can see where you are coming from. Would have definitely been nice is they released a smaller version.
For me though I was able to acclimate to the size rather quickly. Did not seem all that big and I never noticed the weight being an issue.

Nah man, do not agree. At first I was hesitant to preorder as I thought it was too big. Then, I switched to Verizon and was forced to go to 6+ over iPhone 6 as it was on backorder. That made me realize that it was not too big lol. And comparing it to iPhone, you get better feel in the hand, more display, and perfect weight. I can't see myself going to a smaller display.
I actually was told by someone who wantes to hold me n6 that is was lighter then theyd imagine by it size, plus coming from the m8, didnt really feel a difference in weight.
Maybe you should look into the Moto X 2014.

The size of the Nexus 6 is not for everyone. I do think however you did not use the phone long enough and give it a chance. Just like the Samsung Galaxy Note series, a high percentage of people whom really give the phone a chance for a reasonable amount of time end of keeping the "note" and stating later "everything else besides the note is too small".
There are some that will never like the size of phablets and subscribe to the life long Steve Jobs diatribe that phones and tablets are separate devices, in which apple as a company changed their tune later.
I do think your making a mistake though. IBM predicted years ago that the future of the computer would be a PC "walkman like device". The calaboration of computer, phone, and music Walkman device are in the phablet. You need to have a big enough screen to have a true "mobile desktop experience" in a phone. Really, that experience envisioned is with 6 inch sized phones and higher. It won't stop here there will be 6 inch + phones with smaller bezels and those that fold/bend. This is the vision that the IBM had. Lenovo now being the owners of IBM and Motorola.

Wouldnt you just call that the MotoX?
Went to Sprint today to check out the demo. We have two phones that are eligible for upgrade, and I've been looking at the Nexus 6 for months. I figured the size would be fine for me, but I wanted my mom to see the phone and see if she wanted to upgrade to the N6. We both currently have Note 2's, and since I'm the one that always has to troubleshoot when she's got phone issues, I like to try and get the same phones so I know exactly what might be going on when there is an issue. I kind of thought the size would be bigger then the Note 2, but having the phone for two years I guess we're just used to it and the N6 didn't seem bigger at all in the hand for either. Felt like the Note 2, just with more screen space. Seeing the pics and unboxing vids does no justice for the N6. The phone is bad ass in person. As for the weight, I checked out the Note 4 just to compare, it felt much heavier then the N6. Not sure if it's the curved back, but it felt much lighter then all the other phones that size. Both of us walked out and agreed the phone was kick ass and the one to upgrade to. Would have gotten them today, but waiting till Black Friday, just in case there might be some deal at Best Buy. Doubt there will be, but one more week isn't much to wait and see. Plus I can get a couple cases on the way during the wait. And actually, after seeing the phone, the curve on the back didn't seem as curved as I thought it was, so hoping that bumper that Rhino Shield is working on will be all it needs. I questioned the curve and how it could work right, but it looks like the bumper could work without a hard plastic back to it.
