ATTENTION:
We've contacted Samsung about the problem where performing a mmc erase could hardbrick your phone (i9100, i9100g, n7000, m250 - MAG4FA, VYL00M, and KYL00M with firmware revision 0x19 // T989 and I727 with fw rev 0x12) if it's having a faulty emmc chip.
Read this thread for more informations about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644364
They're working as hard as possible on a clean solution which will be ready soon.
Please be patient and try to not flash any leaked kernels or kernels based on sources where MMC_CAP_ERASE is present.
This app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27014974&postcount=1 can be used to identify if your phone is affected or not.
CM9 kernels are safe to flash.
Please share!
Update 14:56 CEST:
Patches will be out in form of new official ROMs and also sourcecode releases after testing, which might take some time.

at least we now have some hope...hopefully...
So to be clear...
Can someone confirm the following is correct please?
I have a N7000 on official (german) ICS, with the dodgy mmc chip. I must have been lucky since ive flashed a bunch of roms (including CM9, back to gingerbread, then official ICS) without issue. Ive also done a few CWM backup and restores... phew!
1. Flashing anything from the phone itself (eg using mobile odin or CWM recovery) is a no-go (assuming it issues the erase command)
2. Flashing from the PC is OK ??? (via desktop ODIN)?
If 2 is untrue, how is sammy gonna issue an update (with the erase capability turned off) without bricking a load of phones during the update process? can they maybe provide a custom app which re-flashes the kernel without doing an erase first?
thanks
George

Flashing is not the problem but wiping is
So if they release a new update then simply don't wipe on your ics but wipe only after you install the new update
If however you want to be extra careful like I am
Flash a gb rom via odin then wipe that then flash said ics update via Odin
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
While there have been brickage reports using either PC Odin or CWM, there have been none regarding Odin Mobile Pro. So, when I flashed back GB, I used Odin mobile Pro. Everything went smooth.
//troll mode activated
It's just like Microsoft patching windows vista

I really hope this mess will soon be over. Let's hope while they are resolving the brick bug they also take a look at the wakelock thing. Contrary to others I have encountered this problem very rarely (1 time so far). Nonetheless it would be nice to see a solution.

Good news but given that we haven't seen ics roll out in all countries, who knows when this will get fixed.
Another thing that bugs me. Is there possibility that Samsung push the solution for this bug and carriers just ignore it and continue with pushing the infected ics?
I guess that all we need is just one good release and everyone can flash it.
Hope to see it soon.

I don't get it. I know some people aren't happy with the changes in s-notes. But there's a huge difference in usability with and without the OTA. I turned in my 16 GB version that had the OTA, for a 32 GB version. The OTA was pulled, so I ended up going 2 weeks without the OTA. Thanks to XDA I was able to reinstall the OTA. Wow, what a difference. To be honest, the note was not near as good a machine without the o t a. I can see where some of the bad reviews came from... There was quite a bit of stuttering while scrolling in any browser I used. Very annoying bugs with the folders. ExFAT did not work. I had several force closes, something I've never had with the OTA. The Note just runs so much better and smoother with the update... I know jelly bean is coming out soon, but why would samsung pull an OTA that made the note 10.1 so much better?
They were getting a lot of complaints about people losing s pen with the OTA. They probably figured JB was coming soon so why bother and they yanked it.

From what I've read on some devices the update made the s pen stop working.

First, go to the development section and read all the stickys. Twice. Don't hold anyone but yourself responsible if you brick your device. You do not need to root or have any custom recovery to use the following procedure. In fact, your Note should be bone stock. Make sure you have an 8013. (The US WiFi only version.) Next, download and unzip the file from your PC, not your Note. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PUT A CHECK MARK IN THE "RE-PARTITION" BOX IN ODIN.
Credit to BarryH_GEG for the following quote:
1- Download and install Odin 1.85. Make sure you have Kies installed first because it installs the necessary USB drivers.
2- Extract the ROM .zip file and put it on your desktop or somewhere easy to find.
3-Run Odin as adminstrator.
4-Click on the PDA button in Odin and find the ROM file you want to load on to your Note. It's an MD5 file. Leave everything else as-is.
4a. Power down your Note.
5-Put your Note in to download mode by pressing power and volume down at the same time. Use the volume up button to select download mode. A little green Android should show up on the Note's screen.
6-Connect your Note via USB to your PC. The box under ID:COM in Odin should turn yellow.
7-Click start in Odin. Odin will show you what it's doing in the message box and you'll see a progress bar on your Note. When it's done, disconnect your Note from the PC and it should reboot itself with the update.

I used this procedure to update my note 10.1. It worked perfectly, just like an update from kIes. Make sure you are not rooted before you do this. Your note must be bone stock with no modifications. This procedure did not wipe my note, all my apps and data were intact after the update.
Make sure you read up on using Odin before you try this. Also, read up on the ota to make sure you want it. It fixes a lot of problems, but some people don't like the new s notes. For me, the ota makes the note so much better that it's a complete no brainer.
There is also a pre rooted version of this fIrmware in the development section.
Thanks it worked like a charm.
Thanks for posting this. I may try this this week. I do use s-notes all of the time when I'm reading my textbooks for school so I am afraid to lose functionality. Would it be possible to go back to the ROM I'm on if it does break my snote?

Sorry, I can't answer that. I just posted help I got elsewhere in the forum. I've not heard of anyone on the forum losing the S-pen from updating, as long as they were stock. If you're rooted or have a custom recovery, you need to seek help from someone smarter than myself bbefore you attempt this. If you are stock, maybe post a question in the questions section, asking if anyone lost the s-pen upgrading rom a stock Note. That way you can assess your risk.

The N8013 had issues with N8010 ROMs so there's a good change the same would hold true in reverse. Using a ROM from a different region on a Note with the same model number (EG: N8010>N8010) is different than what those in the U.S. were doing (N8010>N8013). I'd expect the same consequences in reverse and that's the device showing "custom" which could lead to DRM issues and the flash counter advancing. I'd wait for a N8010 4.1.2 ROM before doing anything.
Just flash Redemption Rom, it's 4.1.2 and works great on my (canadian) 8010.
I would expect 8010 to work with 8013 roms, issues with using 8000 (3G) roms on 8010/13 is true (without some tweaks), but can't say I've heard of issues between 8010 and 8013...they are basically the same device (I think 8010 has an IR Blaster and 8013 does not)

There are quite a few. The device status changing to "custom" vs. "official" for one and the flash counter advancing with no way to reset it other than rooting the device and using Triangle Away. Whether they are physically the same or not the difference in model number causes a stock ROM to be treated as a third party ROM when the model numbers are out of sync. Caveat emptor.
Dual_Everything said:
First of all thanks for all of the information posted here it has been very helpful.
The files installed and updated with no issues on my new unmodified 8013.
I am having the same issue where the allshare cast donge will not connect. Also I can't install Bn Nook app from the play store.
The only cause I can find for this is that device status in settings shows as "custom". Which is strange because I thought the only values used there were
modified and normal.
I don't know if triangle away would help here or not. The 8013 is not listed in supported devices and also I think root is required.
Is anyone else getting that custom setting in their status? For those that have said the allshare cast dongle doesn't work for them what is your
device status in setup?

would be really funny if some of these people who flash the US 4.1.2 ROM start a bunch of threads on reverting back to stock once the Canadian 4.1.2 comes out a couple of days.
It's literally history repeating itself
Hello TPT community,
I Just got this tablet mainly because of the included digitizer and was wondering if anyone could give me a guideline on how to speed things up for this tablet. The tablet came with honeycomb 3.1 included and I am finding it pretty sluggish and unresponsive in general tasks. I went into settings to do a software update but it seems there is no 4.0 update available. There doesn't seem to be a toggle for pen only input in the settings either. Is the normal process for flashing a new Rom to root, then install CWM, and flash Roms?
I'm kind of a n00b here, but that is the right process in general.
For you, there should be a 4.0 update, but you might have to try a few times. After you are running ICS (4.0) you can root and load Koshu's JB rom.
Aren't there problems with rooting ICS?

Is this a wifi only tablet or a 3g tablet? What region is it?
I attached the info in a picture. I dont know how to find out what region or wifi/3g it is though. I don't have a sim to test it. I got it from here: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7473177&CatId=6845
It is wifi only, also found this interesting thread - http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-slate-tablets/thinkpad-1839-update/td-p/975085
Apparently the Tiger Direct refurb is a custom SKU and is SUPPOSEDLY not upgradeable... tho I would think there are ways around that. At least now I know what we are working with here.

The wifi bug actually isn't that big, just set wifi to always on like suggested. As far as the tampered drivers error, you will probably have to : a) search for a way to install unsigned drivers on win8
or b) use a winxp/win7 pc.
Be careful tho... flashing after having stock ICS is needed for a reason.

Hey there,
well one way is to try flashing the upgrade directly but like da_reeseboy already mentioned, there is a high possibility that it will fail. Only other way would be to flash the bootloader directly (that most likely the part, that keeps the JB kernel from booting on non ICS kernels) but there is a high bricking chance and eventually the firmware for some of the hardware needs to be updated, too, to work properly.
It looks like there's hope - this guy has the same weird software version as you - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37487649&postcount=6. He used the directions in that thread to upgrade to ICS.

1. Installed CWM
2. Restored a clean 0075 nandroid from someone here on xda
3. Restored stock recovery
4. Checked for OTA to ICS
In my mind the software version is what is holding him back from updates, so I'm thinking that restoring an 0075 nandroid will put him in a position to get the update correctly... but I am still new to this so I could be WAY off.

If you do wish to get updates you should go back to stock firmware (probably the first backup you made for your telstra 4.1.2) doesn't matter if it's rooted. Connect your phone to the PC and have KIES installed. Click update firmware and update (done, it will automatically unroot your phone and put back the stock recovery). You can easily update after that.
If anyone finds any android 4.3 working please update us here as soon as you can with a link to the page. If I find a working ROM for the official android 4.3 TW ROM I'll post it here too.
I don't think Aussie tel companies will well I don't have high hopes when it comes to Samsung I've always had HTC and Samsung and it's always the same get f all. I'm using 4.3.1 carbon I use GMD spen features for spen control and gestures don't use stock Sammy apps anyway.. just the 4.3 would be good because it's smooth as

Well now...I've been holding off playing with rooting my phone (as I'm new to 'droid and have an awful lot to learn, but have come a LONG way in 2 weeks) as I was expecting Telstra to release an update. Since that appears NOT to be forthcoming, Ill consider the various root options, none of which are particularly appealing at the moment mainly as it seems no-one has a stock ROM for this phone online and I can't backup mine without root. Catch 22 it seems. Information on locked bootloaders, Telstra ROM mods, rooting the 7105 "T" version is VERY limited
So...if anyone happens to have a link for a ROM copy please let me know.
(Or info on a rooting technique that works)
Ultimately every one on xda will be using the custom 4.3 rom for the note 3 goodies because Samsung will not be releasing those features in it's official release

Okay I will explain what I done for you...
When I first rooted my Galaxy Note 2 in May, I was a new-comer to android, I had an iPhone for a long time. What I done was root my phone, I Odin installed TWRP after rooting because I really don't like CWM (those are the names of the 'recoveries' available), they will replace the default Samsung recovery. Just make sure you get TWRP. I think it's up to TWRP 2.6.3
Well yeah let's get back to the topic, as soon as I rooted I used TWRP to make a backup of my default Telstra ROM (completely with EFS, MODEM, basically tick everything you can possibly backup).
I took that backup and put it on my laptop and on my PC and I kept a copy on my external card the whole time. That was the best idea, any time I ever had any problems with my phone I went back to that backup. I even soft bricked my phone once and after hours of panicking I realised I can just Re-install the default backup, and it fixed my phone.
Oh and I just recently un-rooted my phone to check for updates. All I done was use SuperSU to do an UNROOT. Then went into recover, restored the original backup I made of the Telstra ROM. Plugged my phone into the PC, and used Samsung KIES to check for firmware update. It just restarted my phone, removed TWRP recovery, re-installed the samsung one, and it removed the root completely and I'm basically went back to my original telstra ROM. I can go into settings and check for updates and everything. (I can confirm there is no update as of yet).
AS for your other QUESTION.
ALL THE ROMS in the N7105 Section will WORK with your N7105T Model. It's the same thing. JUST WATCH OUT and make sure you never install N7100 ROMS (They will soft-brick and could hard-brick your phone).
Thanks for the input.
I've been considering between 3, namely CF AutoRoot, Galaxy Note Toolkit And (exploit based) Framaroot, with a bias towards Toolkit so far ( as it specifies the 7105 "T" variant).
But if you've actually ODINed a GT-7105T (Telstra) with CWP without issues, I'll certainly consider that.
Any one else care to chime in on this (if you've done the same phone/telco only though !)
I've come far enough to understand rooting, boot processes, CWM/TWRP, exploits AND the importance of picking the exact model !
I'll take the plunge when I get enough input to decide.

It's not that hard really, you can't really mess it up if you follow the instructions... Hey root it whichever way you see fit, whatever you think is easier for you, don't listen to me. But I do highly recommend you get TWRP for backing up and formatting and installing your ROMS. Also I recommend PAC-MAN it's a good ROM, but it's not very stable at the moment (kind of).

Don't take offense at my asking for multiple inputs. I just don't want to brick at $600 phone needlessly
I've now sourced a ROM from Sammobile and downloaded it last night.
I'm backing up settings and stuff tonight and will run with Galaxy Note 2 Toolkit tomorrow (I went PRO) and go for option 3 - THE LOT !
Hopefully it'll all go ok.

Haha you don't go pro over night my friend. Hope it all went all, if you have any issues or like to share your experience with the ROMS let us know.

Well, I did the deed last night with Toolkit PRO and it all went smoothly. No Telstra or Samsung nasties reared their heads PLUS there wasn't a yellow triangle either !
That's the trouble with being in Oz. It's such a small market and REAL information is very hard to come by...so one is very cautious !
Anyway thanks for your assistance :victory:

I Odin flashed mine straight out of the box before I even set it up pulled backup and kept stock rom for warranty only.. these phones are pretty much unbrickable to an extent just don't go trying flashing n7100 roms and you'll be fine at&t roms are ok too just don't flash their bootloaders or even try to.. I change roms daily and have for like the last 2 years on my original note plus HTC's if your unsure on anything this place is helpful more than bloody Samsung
