Sixaxis Controller - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone managed to get this to work? Compatibility checker says its fine but it never pairs. No USB Otg is a pain too.

Did you set the master Bluetooth address for the controller using the program on your PC?

I did, but it was to no avail. Has it worked for you?
Nvm. Fixed with a restart of my n4.

It works lovely for me. Been playing Sonic 4 and Asphalt 7 with it, as well as a few SNES games via Snesoid. Much nicer than on screen or tilt control.
Time for Vice City methinks!

I agree. Now if I can get my hands on a slimport adaptor, I'll be all set. Screw ouya lol.

Play NES Emulator with USB Gamepad!

The other day i bought a usb adapter for my galaxy tab 10.1 (GT-p7500)
Tried it with several different usb devices and all of them worked, sandisk memory sticks etc. But the coolest thing was that my usb gamepad worked without ANY problems/modifications whatsoever and with my NES EMU it worked too! so now i have a portable 10.1 NES and SNES!
I have that via miui rom and sixaxis pairing tool. So my controller and my evo 3d do the same thing via Bluetooth

You should try the playstation emulator, it works like a charm!
Six axis pairing tool is awesome. That and HDMI out makes my devices portable consoles.

What controllers do i use with six axis pairing tool? is there any wireless ones? Since i can't use usb-connected controllers AND HDMI out from my device at the same time. The Galaxy tab 10.1 has only one I/O connector.
It's specifically used with PS3 controllers which are wireless with Bluetooth.

Nexus 7 and PS3 Controller

I'm wondering if anyone would know if it would be possible to connect an adapter to a PS3 controller that would allow it to be plugged into the Nexus 7 using the normal USB cable for the controller and then would the controller be functional within games.
If it can be connected then would it also be possible to pair the controller so that it can be used over Bluetooth?
I know connecting a PS3 controller to a Transformer tablet with a keyboard dock allows pairing but I am curious if it would work with a Nexus 7 using an adapter.

I don't think normal regular ps3 controller do anything to ur N7 with USB cable,, just like it won't do any to the computer.

I'm pretty confident that it wouldn't. However, if you root and download an application from Google Play it will work. (Sixaxis controller)
It works just fine with a ps3 controller plugged via USB and an OTG cable. You can even navigate the home screen with it.
I can post a video if people want to see it.

Could you provide me to a link with a suitable OTG cable for this?
Also will my Nexus 7 have to be rooted?

is that out of the box?
I remember it is plug and play with windows and I did that and though it was so cool when I discovered that 2 years ago
I'm using the Xoom camera connection kit cable. Which is just a fancy name for an otg cable.
It works just fine on stock. No apps, no mods, just works natively. Buttons can also be used to navigate.
Here's an Amazon link to the cable. http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Connection-MOTOROLA-Packaging-89454N/dp/B004UAG6WC

So it has to be an OTG cable then?
I have purchased an USB A male/female adapter and tried connecting the controller cable and the Nexus 7 cable together through the adapter and nothing happened.
Do you have any idea to why that may not have worked?
Just get sixaxis controller from the play store.

Yes I believe it does have to be an OTG cable.
Also, it doesn't work for all games. I think the game has to have an external controller option. For example the controller doesn't work for Final Fantasy III but works for GTA III and the emulators.

What game controller will work with stock nexus 7?

I thought a play station 3 one would work, but i read you have to be rooted? Then I read a wired xbox 360 controller will work? What works for sure? Thanks
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
You only have to be rooted if you want to use the ps3 control wirelessly. Otherwise on stock, buy a USB OTG cable and plug the control in.

Ok will a generic ps3 controller work? People said the knock off brands wont work but maybe their talking about wireless ones only?

It may or may not. Hook it up and see. It should see it as a gamepad. Bout the wireless, yes if its a knock off it won't connect wirelessly with the six axis controller app.

NYKO PLAY PAD PRO $40.00 at your local GameStop once you buy it go to GPLAY and download the app PLAYGROUND and sync it with your games GOD BLESS it works great on my stock NEXUS7

Wow.... How do I do that?
I'm so looking to score a Dualshock controller deal this Black Friday. Mine is not working so well now.
There's a couple different apps in the Play Store. Here is the most popular one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...elstudios.sixaxiscontroller&feature=nav_other
Couldn't you also use otg cable to connect with your controller?
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel

Android has had otg support since 3.1. I'm pretty confident it will still work in 4.2

Yes, it will. It needs root though, if you didnt know
Just tried my PS3 controller with my otg cable and it doesn't work either on the homescreens or in riptide gp. I haven't rooted yet so can't try the wireless option. If this doesn't work it's a major negative, PS3 and Xbox controllers worked brilliantly with the Galaxy S3 and I was hoping it would be the same for the N4.
So far I have tried six axis wireless with root and when it starts the driver it fails, starts the alternative driver and also fails.
=(
No ability to power devices through the usb. Hardware limitation it seems.

*** Important ***
I'm aware of a compatibility issue with the newly released Android 4.2 and hope to have a fix within the next couple of days. Thanks for your understanding.
six axis may not be working due to android 4.2, damn i hope it works eventually
Here is the program sizpair makes the pair for the PS3 controller. But there is a problem - BT does not find the controller.
I know there is a problem with the devices connected via BT - does not find. It seems the problem is android 4.2
P.S. My old Nexus S, with no problems to connect PS3 controller via BT (android 4.1).

You are using ROOT and third-party software?
But for me it is not an option - because I know that in version 4.1 it works without ROOT!
So it won't work on the nexus 4 even with root?

With the root will work. However, it should be a separate program ists to find it.
I do not understand what the meaning was removed native support for ps3 controller from android 4.2
I agree. When it works it completely transforms the gaming experience. I don't own a nexus 4 yet but I will be placing my order As soon as they come back into stock here in the UK

I've got it to work beautifully by using the six axis app. Dead trigger is amazing with it!

Self powered usb controller?

So, now that we have achieved OTG, does anybody know of a self powered usb controller? For example like a usb NES controller with a battery inside. Mods if this should be in the Q and As then feel free to move this thread.

PS3, Xbox and Wii controllers.
I figured how to use my PS3 controller to play games on my N7 but I haven't tried it on my N4. Besides, it's too small to play with a controller.
Why not just get rid of the wire and use Bluetooth?

So they will work with a usb connection? I have used bluetooth before but the input lag with the ps3 controller was too much to bare.
