You need to use TWRP to make this work in recovery. You can change the backup location in Titanium under preferences. Stickmount does work for Titanium, though not flawlessly (sometimes you need to mount a few times). I switched to CraigGomez's ROM which has built in OTG support and it works great!

Ah! Maybe you can answer this as I've posted this several times about TWRP/GooManager usage.
In TWRP you can select to backup to your flash drive, now with the ROM you are using, on a reboot, is the destination of external still selected or do you have to remount/select every time? If so, using GooManager, the reboot into TWRP should still have the external card destination selected.

Twrp auto mounts the SD card every time. Very smooth. You can switch back and forth between internal and otg on the fly.

Thanks! Finally an answer. I'll be trying that ROM as soon as or I give up on waiting for answers about a Goo Manager Gapps problem.

I'm stock OTA 4.2.1 and although it should have the latest Gapps, I let Goo Manager look for the latest. I installed it, reboot, did the Android update but when the desktop came up, it show "picasa has stopped working" and some sort-of Google process had problems. I rebooted again and it went through the same process including the Android updating process along with the errors. I restored a backup to fix the problem.
If you look at this Gapps page: http://www.teamandroid.com/gapps/, it should have selected the first file but instead it selected the second one down. I emailed them, no reply. I posted at RootzWiki, Goo.im section. One reply from the moderator which they stated that I'm on 4.1 which I've never been on or a Custom ROM and that's the Gapps suggested by the Dev. I replied back and so far, nothing from them.

I've been having issues with the GooManager Tapped file on my N10. I think it's corrupt.
Here's the one I've been using that works. (Dropbox link) http://db.tt/c5JMBBzn

You see, that's the file it should have selected for my build but didn't. I assume that's what is in my current build.
CraigGomez's ROM has its own Gapps package, is that what your refering to?

Did you install Craig's ROM from Goo Manager? If so, right below his ROM, I have "his" Gapps package listed. What I see may be different than you as your on it already.

None, just waiting on a response from Goo Manager, in case they ask a question but If they don't respond soon, I try Craig's ROM.

Flash won't rewrite

The flash storage on my nexus 7 seems to not be rewriting like it should, when i pull it up in Windows i can see and delete things from the MTP interface. But when i use a file manager (OI File Manager) i can see the files once more and get an error when i attempt to delete them. i have done the Backup & Reset option within android after attempting a full data reset in ClockworkMod Recovery. At this point i am scratching my head. i am downloading another rom and will flash and post what i get from that.
Anyone else have this strange issue?
I've noticed this as well, anything I delete with ES File Explorer still shows up when it's plugged into my macbook but isn't actually accessible, I'm still on the stock ROM.

Nope, not even rooted, not really a big issue since I mostly use airdroid to transfer files but it would be nice to fix it.

Success!
Using Wugfish Nexus Toolkit, my problem appears to have been solved. whether it is a perminant fix or not has yet to be known.

Rooting and Titanium backup issues.

Just got the white variant yesterday, rooted using the toolkit in the Dev forum, also updated to 4.3 before that.
Bottom line is when I install titanium, I cant backup because I get a storage space error. I was able to backup once but then none of my apps stick, meaning no backups can be found even tho I just backed them up.
Lastly, I lost root after flashing Slim and Carbon. I have root with PA, though.
Thanks.

Try changing backup storage location in titanium backup preferences. Hit detect, whole device, then try changing that. I have seen people say use the legacy location in 4.3, but I have had trouble with the storage error using that. Right now storage/emulated/0/TitaniumBackup is checked on mine.

ok my friend couple questions what size is your phone and also do you have backups on there already. Was your backup from 4.2? I ask about that because file system changed and thats why you were instructed to try the other folder options. Now also are you properly rooted and using es file explorer or my favorite root explorer?
There are a few factors to figure out when resolving your issue but your question quite honestly is all over the forum and maybe a little searching may help you find your answer. If not post more here so we can figure it out...

Alright, my Nexus is the 16gb white version, a newer one because it has those two little bumps on the back to help against glass damage. Also I updated officially to 4.3...THEN rooted, flashed TWRP 2.6.3.0, flashed PA and installed a handful of apps, including ES EXPLORER. I had a previous version of Titanium Pro, which wouldn't let me backup (got the error stating storage capacity), I tried to choose a different backup location and selected "Whole Device", then immediately get the "no back up folder" error.
I then went to the play store, installed the newest trial version of Titanium...and I WAS able to backup, but as soon as I would restart my phone, the backups would disappear. BUT they backups are still stored in my ES explorer in a default folder: /storage/Titanium/Backups (the text may not be exact but the location is right).
So bottom line is that I can't access the folder which holds my backups...thru Titanium. I can see them when I open ES, though.
Here is a screenshot of my TB folder and showing how much space I have can you do the same

Anyway , uninstall it delete its cache and data , flash the latest superSU , reinstall , be sure USB debugging is on , detect and choose legacy folder , if no backup folder detected do a small one , retry to detect and chose legacy , use current location

Why this has not been fixed i do not know.
There are one of two problems that i know of that cause this.
1- there's some sort of remnant of a previous install still on your device and it won't install over the old files.
Find the folder and delete it or all the contents.
2- Something is screwy with the playstore app or google play services.
(going from memory here) clear cache of both apps and reset to factory versions. (you may have to clear data as well)
Visiting the play store will update the app again and things should work. you may need to restart your device.
This has been a problem since at least 2.2. I can't imagine a casual user is going to want to do the work to fix this very often if at all.
I'll have to check it out when I get home, I can't really do it at work

[Q] OTG and Stick Mount Not Working Android 4.4.2

I am running the Nexus 7 2012 WiFi, Rooted and CWM Recovery which I just OTA updated from build KRT16S to KOT49H. Prior to the update I could every once in a while connect my 8GB Kingston Data Traveler USB drive via my OTG cable but now after the update it does not see the device at all. Is anyone else having a similar problem with Android 4.4.2 and if so could you please post your solutions for solving the problem?
Thanks in advance:
KodachromeBob

Well checking with a different cable is for sure the first thing to try. But I did have this problem with the last version of the custom rom I'm using, and one fix is to flash one of the custom kernels such as M-Kernel which has restored the native OTG support (ie you don't need stickmount). I no longer need that though, because stickmount is now working for me on the latest copy of the rom.
The rom is CyanogenMod 11.0 by koko98 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2509905
Success OTG and Stick Mount on Android 4.4.2
Wouldn't you know that my original OTG cable would fail just after I upgraded to Android 4.4.2, just my luck. I replaced it with a new cable from StarTech.com and was then back in business. Thanks to Merdeke and all your replies and suggestions.
Sorry for (kind of) necroposting but i need assistance with same problem.
Only in my case OTG cable is fine - Nexus Media Importer works fine but any other software doesn't. Some are failing to mount but in case of stickmount it's little bit more curious: stickmount manages to mount my flash drive to usbStorage/sdb1 but when i navigate to this folder it;s empty and i also loose any files placed in this folder after unmounting.
What can cause such problem?

PERFECT! that did it.
Ok. Follow up question. Is there a way to make the ROMS larger? I could only increase the ROM slot to 4gb. Now that I'm finally able to access Google play and Amazon, I've run out of space quick.
Withdrawn
Ok. Got it.
Let me preface this by saying, sorry for the noobiness.
Does this make sense....The reason I used safestrap and the Rom 1 slot was to protect my stock slot (making changes on a copy of my back up of my Rom using the Rom 1 slot). Hence the smaller space with the Rom 1. I guess if I really I wanted more room like you said, I could install everything on the stock Rom. However, with this scenario, I'm assuming I would lose the only back up capacity available in case I brick the device. Is there another way to back up the device using storage from somewhere else (like save the stock Rom to my pcand load it if needed).
Again, thanks.

Got it I forgot to install the framework first lol!
I have been using this Rom on a daily basis since the tutorial was posted -- and have added a number of apps and customized to my personal preferences. I've had no issues at all -- with either Amazon or Google apps & services! THANKS once again to all who've contributed!
PS: for convenient switching between launchers, this works well for me: installed Apex launcher with its tablet UI - and set it as default launcher. I have the Kindle "Home" icon (shortcut to stock launcher) on my homescreen - hitting that goes instantly to the stock Kindle homescreen - and hitting the device's home button will get me back to Apex/android.
Optimum error
This seems to break Optimum application for anyone on Cablevision Cable network.
I get "Error" "There appears to be a problem with the Optimum app. Press OK to close the App then try again. OK".
For now, I am going back to original stock rom with your original gapps instructions, but I get those pop ups about google services stopped.
