HD gaming and Videos!!Which ROM/Kernel combo you use? - Galaxy S II General

Hey guys
Just wanted to know your experiences with rom/kernel combos with reference to HD gaming and videos..Which rom/kernel you use and have seen is the best for gaming and 720 HD videos.. Ofcourse please mention first your setups without any overclock which have given you the best performance i.e good fps rate, no lags, no unwanted lag spikes and fps drops
Do feel free to mention your overclocked setups and the settings (like scheduler, governer etc) which give you best performance
P.S: I just want inputs from various users as there are variety of threads for getting good battery life, underclocking, undervolting etc..but there is hardly any info on extracting the best performance possible from S2
thanx

Only stock rom can give you best performance

I have not asked for a best rom/kernel from anyone in this thread. I am just asking users to share their experiences regarding high end gaming and 720p videos. When there can be a thread for undervolting and getting great battery life, why not for sharing settings for getting better HD gaming performance

am using xxlsj 4.1.2 stock deodexed it s very good exept battery life its bad

I'm using latest rootbox+latest dorimanx kernel good for me

4.0.4 + Speedmod (I actually use the apollo kernel from another forum)

CM9 for me, stock ROM crashes when I play two 720p videos simultaneously on super video pop up player whereas CM9 handles em well, no lag! As for gaming, TDKR doesn't lag on even CM10 n Siyah. Haven't checked on 4.2 yet.

Hi,
i wanted to thank you for this fantastic Kernel.
Using it ont CM9 RC2.
I'm coming from Siyah, and Fluxi, but your Kernel just blows everything away. Best Battery Life of all.
And with the upcoming fixes, especially BLN, it will be even better! Good Luck with your exams! And keep up this Good work.
Adding some Screenshots of my Battery Stats, and still 30% left(kernel default settings):
Edit: Added 2 new Screenshots, resulting in a Screen-On-Time with 5h 11m. I'm very happy with that.

First try the default settings. If they are not good for your usage, you can try to overclock to 1200 and to change governor to ondemand or pegasusq..

This was my first full cycle with DarkKnight v1.9.2, and the SensatioN ROM 3.5. And these are my results.
On the phone i was basically using chrome and whatsapp. I have no widgets on my homescreen and used the default kernel settings without changing anything. Note that i have a different non-samsung battery from "anker" with 1900mAh.
I think these are pretty decent results for the first cycle so keep up the good work
Ill continue to test your kernel, maybe also with different roms like cm9 rc2.
This is another one of my longest screen on time. The uptime is just 7hrs+ tho, I think.

Hey, i can't post in the development section, so i'm asking in this thread:
flashed 1.9.2 today and can't disable the LEDs. if i disable them in the system settings they stay disabled as long as i don't lock the screen. after unlocking they are enabled again. hadn't that problem with 1.8.
cache and dalvik already wiped.
any suggestions?
How do you guys get such great battery with high screen time? I have brightness set to auto. Whenever I have the screen on I can see my battery % drop very quickly.

One problem with stock ROMs: features limited, otherwise, they are great in terms of stability.
For me, i'm balancing between codenameandroid and MIUI(miui.us versions).

Was using CNA before for 2 months, but always thought that stock is more smoother. Don't mind that much for features and got fed up with constant updating.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
I used stock non rooted for some time and I liked the smoothness. The thing I missed was BLN and some other options. Also the battery life with moderate use is less good then some custom roms. Now flashing strawberry rom =)
I'm rocking CM10 w/ Marmite right now since they merged in 4.1.2 asap.. As soon as AOKP Build #5 is released I'm jumping back on the Unicorn saddle w/ Marmite though.. Love me some unicorns!

With rascarlos roms (Rascream before & Rasbean now) i always have 2 days. With very hard use...when i do corrections to my theme and flashing 10-20 times a day...have all day of battery.

I'm going to try that as i too have rasbean jelly 10/10 build on my ns4g w/ marmite kernel 4.8.7. This combo plays very nice as well. I've had no reboots and the battery life gets me to about 24 - 32 hours of life. Going to see if i can actually beat that with Trinity kernel.

Well for the 4.8.7 version, the scheduler is CFQ and i use On Demand 200min/ 1000max. I use NS Tools to put the On Demand Sampling rate at 120000 to save battery. This works for me.

Oh one more thing, what does that mean if i change the on demand sampling rate from 40000 to 120000?

I'm on The Strawberry rom now. Running very very smooth and I like the battery life aleeady after one day of use. This rom is based on the rasbean source!
CM9.1.0 with default kernel and settings.
It may 'only' be ICS, but it runs better than any JB rom/kernel combo that I've tried on my phone to date.

and the best kernel for gaming?

Based on my experience. For overall excellent gaming performance with good enough battery performance, I suggest M-Kernel a25 or a27. And to over clock your device after installing the kernel, use Trickster Mod from play store.

theres no best kernel, they are all good. theres only whats best for your and your devices needs. evrybody is going to say that the best kernel is the one that they use, no one is going to say that they use the worst.

popular doesnt mean good. try out a few, find what your device likes. every device is different and reacts differently with each kernel.

I get about 10-11ish hours "screen on" with light use on franco kernel #38
Motley kernel
i tried
Motley kernel,
Franco kernel
Trinity Kernel
Trinity is the fastest if you tweak it good..
but on the downside the most glitch..
but Morfic just released two updates in two days...
so theyre fixing it.
So im back with Trinity Kernel.
Its good..
and the only Kernel i find that you can change GPU speed, ofcourse Using
the glitchy Trinity Toolbox
I love Franco.Kernel R31. Battery life is great and performance is good as well. R38 is the newest and great, but I feel performance is a bit lacking on 38.

There are no best rom for gaming. What you really need is a kernel. A kernel is the engine and transmission of a device. Check out Trinity kernel by Morfic.

I'd try a different ROM and kernel before you condemn the tablet. Try CM10.1 with faux kernel first.

By best, I would assume you mean the fastest for gaming. I can only tell you what I have had most luck with. I have tried almost all the popular ROMs and kernels. Of them, it is the more obscure, simplistic ones that liked more and performed better. I am able to overclock 160% performance increase from testing using Slim Bean Build 6 ROM in conjunction with Faux123 Ultimate kernel.

[Q] Kernel issues

Hi
First post. Will try not to look the idiot or ask what has already been asked. Here goes, I am unable to find a kernel that actually improves my phone, i currently have the following -
Nexus 4
ROM - PSX V1
Moto x mod (great addition)
Stock kernel
I have tried two or three kernels including the new Trinity one which gave me a worse performance. Would someone point me in the right direction?
Could i also say a big thanks to PSX developer for a great ROM.
Regards.
Have you tried Franco...?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
did you try adjusting settings to your needs? considering the trinity kernel maxes at 1026mhz by default, until you adjust the cpu speed yourself.
So if I reinstalled trinity and used trickster to increase the cpu, I might get better results?
I haven't tried franco just yet.

Improvement is a subjective in this context. In what way? Faster? More features? Better battery life? Better sound quality? Better color? Smoother?
Benchmark means nothing. It is possible to apply the Samsung's dalvik cheat patch to your rom which will increase your benchmark score but yield no real world performance. With some settings you might get great benchmark, but the phone might get hot with poor battery life. Moreover, most benchmark programs do not tell the real story about performance. Antutu and Geekbench doesn't even work correctly with 4.4 and ART. iOS7 might get good scores sunspider javascript, but there are times when Android web performance outright beat it.
This thread falls in the category of "What is the best kernel/rom?" which is against XDA rules so I can;t help you. Research each kernel and read about its features and users feedback and find what is right for you. A lot of time stock kernel will give the best stability and battery life.
I use kernels mainly for features. There are other bigger factors about the operating system that determine battery life and performance.
What I wanted was faster and this certainly is faster. So I'm happy. Thanks for all your help.
