It seems like I can never find a reasonable volume for headphone listening. One step is too quiet, but the next step up is way too loud. Coming from a galaxy S varient with voodoo sound, I'm a bit spoiled by its volumn control. Is there any way to increase the number of steps available to the volumn keys? I'm willing to go as far as editing and recompiling the code if that's the only way, just have to figure out if this is something that would be in the kernel or in android or if it is just a hardware limitation.

I am one of those people who listen to music mostly for background noise while I work. This means the music has to be quite low. I use ear buds to muffle out the outside noises. However this means that the lowest volume setting becomes too high. For me, most mp3 players suffered from this problem. Until I started using Rockbox firmware on my Sansa mp3 mplayer that offered 84 levels of volume control.
The Samsung Epic in comparison only offers 16 levels of volume adjustment. Is there a way to improve this volume level control? I briefly search Android Market but did not see anything relevant. May have overlooked.
I hate to be a douche, but i dont think more volume steps is all that necessary.
I use these "Sony Earbuds", they have there own inline volume controller so i can achieve practically as many steps as i can imagine (analogue adjuster)
It totally needs more volume steps. Is it specific to this phone, or does it happen on all Android phones? I've never used another Android phone, so I wouldn't know.
Hi
I'm using stock 12332 build and performance fix which includes DJ_Steve kernel, volume boost etc, I'm generally very happy but the volume boost is to aggressive for me so during call the sound is too low or too loud, so could anybody tell me how to switch it off or adjust the volume step
Thnx in advance
Cheers
Is the Volume Boost available as a separate app or upgrade file?
It's just built in dj Steve rom, I sent him PM but no answer so far
At the risk of sounding like a jackass, what's wrong with the volume buttons? Just turn it down a bit
But to answer your question, yes. I think you'd need to download his source (if it's available) modify it, and build it yourself though.
I have had this problem too. The volume buttons after volume boost change the volume in increments far to big. If there is any easy fix for this please tell
Not Android Development

So I take it that no one has had success with the increasing caller volume hack in the registry? I tried editing maxincalluivolume and it will change the max number, but not the volume in general. Any one have success with this?
wrong thread, should be in the q&a section but in answer to your question there isnt any fix that im aware of. I know in europe many MP3 players had to have their volume reduced to fit in with EU laws, this is potentially the case on this ROM too...dunno, just a thought.
Yah I'm using the DFT roms release, and if I'm not in a quiet room I can't hear anything. Are the other roms the same? I'm on tmobile usa. Any info would be great.
Thanks
all the roms are the same, a few tweaks here an there but they are still pretty much identical, in answer to your question, they will all have the same issue, there is currently no way of controling all the seperate volumes. in a phone call if you press the volume buttons you can change in call volumes, at any other point its the sytem volume thats controled, there is an app for controlling the media volume however, search market place for media volume
hello.
i'm pretty sure i saw somewhere a way of changing some system files in a rom to have a higher/lower volume sound (i'm talking about the real maximum level, not the volume like using volume buttons). i couldn't find anything about it. can anyone guide me? thatnks.
(what i want to do is to increase the maximum sound level)
Hello,
Is there any hack that works on the samsung galaxy tab that will increase the volume steps from 15 to 30?
It is very annoying to jump from very low to very loud on just one volume up right now on some music player as it is right now.
I am rooted
Thank

I don't think so. What is the problem anyways? What you have said is not really clear on the volume. Please clarify your statement and reply back. Thanks.

He's using his Tab A in car. It is his radio. And the volume only has 15 Steps, which is kinda steep, one step to another can be super loud. So giving it 30 steps instead of 15 steps, you can finely tune the audio level.
Something you might not have thought about doing is a Pot. AKA Volume Knob. you can find premade ones online that have RCA Input and output, and you use it to manually turn up and down the levels in the rca cables. That way you can keep the volume at max on the tablet, and turn a volume knob. I used to have one till I designed my own Media Soft Keys on my TabS
