can I use a gamepad with my new toy? or better yet, which one is confirmed to work?
If you happen to be rooted, the Sixaxis / Dualshock 3 [PS3] controller works great.
I have a Nyko Playpad. Costs about $30. Works perfectly with almost all of my games (Shadowgun, GTA III, my N64/SNES emulators, Dead Trigger, Riptide GP, etc...)
It also doesn't require a rooted system! I'm running stock.
A Wii remote will work no problem. Just use a wii remote and a classic controller.

I play with my xbox360 pad. It must be the wireless pad, and to plug it you need the wireless-USB adapter and an OTG cable.
I tried it with snes emulators and works fine. Some cons are that you can only play with the analog, the triggers dont work, and it is only possible to plug one pad (isnt posible to play 2 players).
I also have a arcade stick "brawl stick" (xbox/pc usb connection) and works great also.
I didnt used any app to setup the pads.

Do you need a receiver for the controller too or is it just working per bluetooth?

I thought a few people might find this useful.
As the title says The OTA update I received today (16th July) seems to have added support for the wired xbox 360 controller.
I have tried the with cordy (a game from the android market) and two emulators - Nesoid and N64oid and it works fine once the keys have been mapped. It kept saying <unknown> but it does at least recognize the key presses.

nice. that will make gaming super awesome now on the TF.
Very handy actually, as all the Xbox games that have been released for the last year and a bit have been utter ****e and nothing new on the horizon either, so I could do with a reason to find another use for the controller. Off to get some batteries and try this out.
I still want wireless other than the wii controller, sigh.

Isn't the support for the wired controller only?

PS3 SixAxis is wireless
Does the ps3 controller work as a bluetooth gamepad? I haven't tried.
Was just wondering if anyone had tried the OnLive Android client on this? It's obviously not officially supported yet, but there is a fair chance that it will work.
Thanks.

Thanks, was just thinking that I hadn't seen anyone run it on JB, and there may be some compatibility issue there.
Would still like to see if someone can actually get it running. I am tempted to pick up one of the universal controllers if I am sure it works well with this.
im getting onlive for sure! i just need to find a good controller for my tegra hd games.
Thought I'd bump this existing thread since the N7's are in a lot of people's hands now. Has anyone had a chance to try the controller yet?
I'm interested in getting a controller for my N7 and until the Nyko Android PlayPads are released. Thought this might be the best way to go in the meantime.
Cheers,
Kermee
I have just sold a brand new controller on eBay as I had two sent and they didn't want it back ?!? Very accommodating are on live ... lol
Have not used my on live yet but the N7 run games (in app) amazingly well.
I think On live will work just as good

I've used OnLive on the N7 - works great. I haven't got a controller for it though.
Same for me using it right now on Nexus7 to play Lego Batman and its working great!

This is a patched onlive app that allows any controller to work by default. Like sixaxis pps3.

I had previously bought an official receiver so that I could use my wireless Xbox controller to play games on my Windows PC.
Now I just plug the receiver into a USB OTG cable connected to my N7. Just tap the button on the receiver and the connect button on the controller, and job done. You can use the Xbox controller to navigate and play games.
Thanks for that information I'm waiting on my cable and ill try my wired xbox control I've already got the patched apk installed

OnLive and the official universal controller works great.
So downloaded some pretty awesome games (shadowgun, nova 3, modern combat, riptide GP, and a load more - went kind of overboard but that's what the first hit of a Tegra 3 device can do to a man...) on my Nexus 7 but struggling to get the hang of touchscreen FPS. Are there any game pads out there that I can connect wirelessly (wifi/bluetooth) to use instead when at home?
Thanks,
Max

Awesome, I imagine not all games will be compatible but can test with my cousin's ps3. Do XBOX 360 ones work as well then?
So I know ps3 controller wirelessly needs root, but it seems like people are able to use controllers wired while stock. Interested in getting a super nes controller and otg adapter to play snesoid and nesoid games. Haven't seen a write up yet and got no idea what apps I need to get the controller to work with it. Already have the emulator up and running

When my N7 was stock I just plugged in my xbox 360 controller and it natively worked . Didnt need to do anything special . Remember not all games support controllers .. I didnt try out any other emulators or controllers but from what I hear from others.. some work.....some do not.

For me I just plugged in the PS3 controller then pushed the little round button in the middle of the controller. Once I did that I could use the analog stick to move the icon around the screen. Then I simply loaded Dead Trigger and it was already mapped. Really it was that simple for me.
Hello, has anyone managed to get the Xbox 360 controller with an OTG cable to work on Modern combat 4? The right analogue stick doesn't move so I cannot turn my player, i would like to remap the controls as they only partially work right now. If anyone has experience with this or any form of guide how to help this would be hugely appreciated. Thanks

I am looking for a similar thing...also is there an xbox app like the six axis for ps3 controller (even beta version in development would be helpful)...
I believe you might need a custom keylayout. If I recall right, someone posted a proper keylayout for both a wired and wireless Xbox 360 controller that was supposed to fix the spiraling camera issue in DEAD TRIGGER, which I would imagine would work fine for any other game
Okay but how do I go about getting a custom key layout?

Will need to have root.
Info and key map in this thread
Not played modern combat 4... But this got my Xbox controllers working properly with dead trigger, gta3 and GTA vice city...
I'm fine with rooting just only if the controller will work for definite, otherwise I will return and swap for a ps3 sixaxis , and thanks also.

There is an app called USB/BT Joystick Center that does what you ask, it also works for a ton of devices such as wii controllers, mice, keyboards, etc. However native support would be much better.

The file 'Vendor_045e_Product_0291.kl.zip', attached to that guide, is the key map for wired controllers, which is missing from the n10. Just extract and copy the file to /system/usr/key layout and then set permissions. As I said before, I can't say if it works with mc4 but it definitely works for other games.
I rooted / got USB/BT joystick centre 6, and used the touch server add on to assign the touch screen commands to my Xbox controller.
Each button works correctly, and both analogs but my only problem now is the sensitivity is not high enough for the right analog (turning left/right and up/down) so it takes about 5 seconds for a 360 degrees turn.
I turned the in game sensitivity up to Max, also when I assigned the right analog to turn I put the speed to its highest (10), increasing the speed helped slightly but I need it to be faster, anyone have expereince with the app and able to tell me how to increase the sensitivity?
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 2
Just tried the guide from that thread and its no different unfortunately, the same buttons work before and after following the guide. Those buttons are Lb, Rb, Y,X and the left analog stick. Aside from that guide all I actually need is to increase the right analog sensitivity using USB/BT joystick centre somehow if anyone can assist,

Maybe the better choice is ps3 controller with sixaxis app? I used to use it for Asus prime and modern combat 3. Panning wasn't as smooth though and required you to set up on screen button layout.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Hmm from video tutorials I've seen of the ps3 controller on MC4, the sensitivity seems the same. Maybe I'm wrong but would rather first try and figure it out for an Xbox controller before buying a new one
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 2
Does it work? as i am also trying to use my wired 360 controller and right stick doesn't seem to work...
You have to use the j>t touch emulation and set up the buttons yourself, but the right analog is to slow, need to know if their is a way to speed it up

Help with right analog stick Sensitivity.
I am also trying to raise the sensitivity for my right analog stick as I am also trying to play Modern Combat 4 with my Xbox 360 controller. Does anyone have a solution?:
I never found one. I just went ahead and bought the ps3 six axis, along with the app. Has a sensitivity option which is perfect

I can't see buying a $50 controller for a $1 game. I have a wired Xbox controller but think it would be cool if I could use my controller on mc4.. Joy2touch doesn't work too well. Any help would be awesome!
Am I using joy to touch wrong? Its like the dead Zone is huge but once you overcome the dead zone the movement speed seems to be full on. So aiming speed is either way fast or it doesn't move at all....
