[Q] Recommended .SBF for Defy+? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone recommend me a 2.3.6 BL-6 Defy+ SBF which seems to be working fine with CM10/CM9?
As in: With working Wi-Fi.

All bl6 sbfs will work equally well for cm10. Only difference is in basebands of the roms. But that can be taken care of(must be) by using baseband switcher app in cm 10 as the default baseband may not work for everyone

Mine sadly doesn't It's a Germany one, but I suppose it shouldn't be a issue moving to a European Retail one or a Nordic (? - gotta check) one.
Thanks.

Again, no issue since you're going to eventually migrate to cm10

Latest ICS for Defy not working on Bravo

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20056083#post20056083
It's sad I think it's because it runs on 2.3.4+ kernel version. The older one was 2.2. What can we do?
Why can't we change our kernel
Sent from my MB520 using XDA App
Motorola locked it. We can't unlock it without there signiture.

What we need is that developer who is working with it now, to create a rom without the new kernel, I think walter79 is working them, I'll asking him.
If I'm not mistaken the green lense defy still has to use the froyo kernel

walter79 told that we need to compile ICS with froyo kernel, but how can we do that?
He sent this: https://github.com/Quarx2k
in the ics thread there is something how to do it!!
Compiling ics is ridicolous amount of ram needed. 20gigs I think... bravomotorola... check your pm

Since we really have no true devs we are going to have to look for one with knowledge of code. We may have to donate some money to someone to get them a bravo unless there's someone with an extra that is willing to let someone use it. That's our true problem is that the defy, Atrix, galaxy s, and other phones have support from cm and alot of experienced devs that have been developing since the magic and hero days.

Hey there.
Are you gonna help us with something about ICS?
Well I think we need first a fully working 2.3, then we can go to the next step.
Thanks everything

Yes, the results from the excellent tip: Well first I moved over the framework and apps like rdanner said, and it worked! Then I moved over the ect folder for working gps and better working wifi and such, and it also worked and booted! It runs pretty well, but the only problem is 3D (egl libs) don't work with the 2.2 kernel (this is a guess kind of, I'm guessing it needs the 2.3 kernel). Any time I move over newer libs from the newer build I get stuck at the moto screen. I still suggest people to try it out though, I don't have the signal working yet I don't think unless it already works...maybe try playing with the baseband switcher. The build is pretty smooth and wifi and orientation both work good...
Try it here
ICS gapps here
After install wipe data/factory reset and cache and dalvic cache maybe... I would boot it up first and do gapps after it's booted. Have fun, and thanks again rdanner!
You cannot usually mix gb libs with froyo libs..

So there is no way to get the gingerbread kernel on the Bravo?
The kernel... probably not... you need a factory gb kernel source Wich the bravo does not have...

Is that why you get that bootloader error when trying to flash it?
EDIT:
LOL!! I quote Epsylon's thread under to do list:

[Q]ICS ROM clarification

Hi Now am using 2.3.7 version and kernal 2.6.32.9-gb in my defy,
Am planing to install ICS 4.0.3.What kernal should download?
Becoz i already tried Mar 3 build but its stucked many times and getting restarted again so pls tel the correct methods and kernal.GApps.
Can any one help me?
If you have gingerbread kernel you need to install a Defy+ build. If you have a normal defy, I think you need to install batery fix as well. I'll try to find it. Defy+ builds work well with red lense defys, but I don't think camera works for green lense users.
Thanks...so shall I install defy + build...and kernal link available separately....what is the use of those kernal...how. and wat should be install
Sent from my MB525 using XDA
You already have a kernel. Or else you wouldn't be able to use the phone. You've already told me that you have a gingerbread kernel. So don't bother flashing a new one.
Gapps is on first page for main CM9 thread. Battery fix is somewhere in the thread :-/ Look around page 300

CM9 Kernel gives bootloader error. It's for froyo kernel users only (as far as i've understood)
DON'T flash it! It will soft brick your phone!

CM9 builds, gapps & battery fix is enough to my phone to run ICS.
Have to flash above three things?
Am i right?
Yup, that should be it.

That is true. I have a Defy+ and I installed the CM9 kernel. It soft bricked my phone and I had to do a SBF flash, root CWM recovery and all things all over!! Flash the CM9 built for Defy+ by Quarx. It does restarts and freezes ocassionally but is okay otherwise for a beta version!!

[Q] What is the most stable ICS-based ROM for Defy

I have a Defy with green lens and I have the latest WIUI V4 installed. It works good for me because the camera and video recorder are working but there's no radio, the gps can't find my location and the battery gets drained too fast when using wi-fi (as compared to MIUI Pikachu or WIUI Hybrid). So which ICS-based ROM works best for you? Thanks.

Which version? The latest?
The latest has reboots use the second to last one. I find fuzz builds better tho. The latest fuzz build is stable enough, as in no reboots.

is this still the most stable ICS ? I have suddenly started having problems with my wifi (despite havng this build for several months now).
Could upgrade to CM10 but not that keen due to the hassle of reloading apps, losing settings etc.
Cheers

[Q] Flashlight on CM10

My flashlight is not working on CM10 by Quarx,it flashes very weak, not with full potential. How to fix that?
Stop using it immediately, use the latest version of cm10. If you still have weak flashlight then its an hardware issue
Sent from my MB526 using xda premium
I am using this build: CM10-20121018-NIGHTLY-mb526 .
Flashlight was perfectly working, and then I flashed froyo .sbf because I wanted to go to CM10 and now its very weak.
Well, its a recent build with the flashlight issue solved that could burn the flashlight. But in your case I think it may be damaged depending on which froyo sbf you flashed.
You should try gb kernel and you can then use the cm10 builds, though I think it had suffered permanent hardware damage
Sent from my MB526 using xda premium
Can you give me the link for that GB kernel? I have MB525.
Dude just flash any gb sbf, preferably for your region

Defy + SBF bl5 into a Defy Red Lense?

Is it a bad idea? will it give any problems?
Only battery may give issues without a battery patch in the gingerbread roms including stock. All 2ndboot builds will work the same way.
Oh, and model will change to defy+(cosmetic)

DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-161_HE this is the sbf that i accedently flashed.
is it reversable?
Here's the deal. DFP 161 is a BL6 sbf not a BL5. So if you came from froyo (probably 99.9% of all Defy's start on froyo), you cannot flash a froyo sbf otherwise you will get a black screen. However, as long as you stay away from BL7, there are plenty of ROMs and BL6 sbfs to choose from.
Actually, there is a Chinese BL6 froyo SBF, I used it once as a stepping stone to recover my phone, but it's saddled with bloatware and not good for daily use. Try DFP-125, it's a rock-solid stock ROM.
Check out Walter's sticky here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537 it's got all the SBFs.
And if i use a 125 (fot plus?) I will use it to use a cm7.2 or other gb rom? Or to use it as a stepping stone to get back?
Yes you can do that. But why do you want to flash the defy+ variant?
If you do that, you will have to use defy+ variant of cm7. If you want to use the defy variant, you must flash the froyo bl6 sbf and then flash any rom. ON STOCK ROM OF FROYO BL6 SBF DO NOT USE THE CAMERA OR YOUR FLASH WILL NEVER WORK AGAIN. You can use it on cm7 though

Its sounds scary to.me, what i ment to say is that cm7.2is giving me errors on my mb526. And i recall that on my original defy it worked well soi wanted to know if thers a way to turn it back to 525 and flash cm7.2

Try flashing system wiper script before installing rom. Also try more recent roms like cm10,cm10.1

Hm. This is really strange.
If you've already flashed a defy+ sbf that's not BL5 or lower, then it is not possible to go back to a MB525 ROM. I think you should give CM10 a try.

I'm pretty sure wiping /system on a locked bootloader will give you a brick and force one to flash another sbf, but that might be the solution in this case.
Wiping /system by itself does not brick the device; since he will be flashing the ROM immediately after it will be a clean install. The device is bricked if after wiping system no ROM is flashed and the user reboots
