I have a stock N7 with 4.2.1 and rooted. Everything works OK in terms of rooted apps (SuperUser, SU, Titanium, etc.)
I setup a 2nd user account (Jellybean multi-user account function) and that works OK too.
However, when I login to the N7 as the 2nd user account, all root function is disabled. SuperUser is still there, but any apps requiring root like Titanium Backup no longer works.
Is there any way I can get the 2nd user account root access?
Looks like ChainSDD's Superuser 3.3 supports multiuser root function, found this over in the Nexus 10 forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35562818
Can anyone confirm this?
we can continue here I guess http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2042605

I have just created a secondary user however I am unable to get root access. Titanium Backup just says that it failed to acquire root. Main user has root with no issues.
Any ideas? Thanks.
*Bump*
Yes, the idea is: wait until Chainfire (or someone else) figured it out. Root is currently only possible on the tablet owner profile. Check SuperSU on the Play Store for the same information.
1. Is it possible
2. Do all users get root access? I assume SU would have to be installed for each user, if root access is desired, correct?
3. Does it cause issues?
4. Does the ADB Backup & Restore backup and restore ALL users?
....Anything I'm missing?

In the words of Chainfire, author of SuperSU, as it pertains to SuperSU 0.98 and 0.99:
Chainfire said:
Preliminary update for Android 4.2's multi-user capabilities.
Only the main user can run the UI and gain root access.
Secondary user's apps will not be granted root, nor can
those users change SuperSU configuration.
This is all temporary. Proper multi-user support is being
worked on.
Note that if a non-user process (like ADB shell) needs to
prompt for root, that prompt will always appear on the
MAIN user's screen !

I should have mentioned that my N7 is rooted with multiple users and I have not run in to any issues. I can't comment on the backup, however.

I have not had any issues with root for main "owner" user. But as stated other users currently do not have root access.
Backup? Don't know yet?
Other users currently do not have access to all apps that the owner has access to. Example. Google wallet only works with owner. Google Talk only with Owner.
So I really hope that once they figure out how to get root to all users... than all users can use all apps.
Google has made a one stop forward.... but long ways to go on multi user system. IMO

Completely agree on that one. Asked me to set up google wallet again for the second user (I had entered a different gmail id for the second user).
Had to install titanium backup separately for both the users. And apps installed for one user was not accessible to the other!! (from within titanium backup.)
However as the owner, I could see all the apps from under 'manage apps'. (Not visible from the normal drawer.) From manage apps, I can also see option to 'un-install for all users'.
As a owner, I wish, I could also install apps and control other user..
I have rooted my Nexus 7 in order to be able to use USB storage. It works fine-- I use "USB MassStrorage Watcher OTG" and can access my external 32GB Stick.
However, I added a second user (my Wife) and although I have use appshare to share all applications, I cannot read the USB stick when under her user name because it requires a rooted device and a second user system sees a non-rooted device.
The problem lies that Android N7 4.2.1 - does not have a facility to have a shared directory - so everything is hidden from one user to another: I had a plan that I could share books via the USB Stick and not waste the directories and memory space - but because the second user cannot access the USB stick it does not work like I planned.
Does anyone have a solution to:
1. Extend Root access to a second user
2. Create a shared directory that both (or multi) users can access?
3. Have USB access app that does not require root?
I am a first time Android user and the restrictions placed on the use of this device (Android in general) are pretty ridiculous - they make no sense!
Why do they (Google) want to cripple their own device? If the USB access is possible from hardware standpoint - why the intentionally block it and not make it part of the OS?
Why not allow shared directories ? I still copy from one user to another using computer - but it is convoluted and time/memory waste.
Hope there are good solutions out there that someone could direct me to.
Best regards
Vladimir
I tried Superuser 3.3 on my Nexus 7 but didn't work at least with cerberus. It just denies the root request

I just tried that and it worked fine for me. I went into the prefrences and changed the multi user setting to user controlled and it worked just fine.

apologies for reviving a thread.
But I managed to get the multiple user working with SuperSU but not superuser (on 4.3)
The problem I have is for some reason every time I install SuperSU although it works fine, It stops App Ops (Permissions) from working.
and because I really like to use them (instead of a third party permission tool) I'd like to get superuser.
Any ideas?
I'm just wondering if anybody has managed to get the Sky Go app working with a rooted Nexus 7?
I've read somewhere that a rooted Android device can work with Sky Go if it is running a stock kernel and used in conjunction with Temp Root Remover.
If anybody has, please share your set up. :good:
Many Thanks,
Andy
I don't have an active Sky account anymore, but on Modaco JR13 with Stock kernel and unsecure boot.
I managed to load the app and sign into my old account without any problems.
Obviously I didn't get as far as watching TV as my account is closed.
Hope this helps.
+1 would like top know if it is possible

This thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2042095 ) describes a possible workaround (removal of supersu) but grants all subsequently installed apps root access after this, hence not ideal.
Fingers crossed a more secure method or patched apk arises in the future!

OK so I have a nexus 7 (2012) on standard Android 4.4.4.
Rooted with CWM and superSU 2.01
I just used the root hider app from the play store and selected ..
Hide Su binary and then
Uninstall super user (selected chain fire SuperSU option)
I then had to go into my root of my nexus 7 and remove the sky go files stored there.
After I deleted them I then restarted the tablet.
I can still reinstalled superSU as I'm still rooted but its a bit of a Hassel ATM as every time I want to watch SkyGO I have to follow the same routine, hideSu > uninstall superSU > delete SkyGO files from root dir > restart tablet.
I think there should be an Xposed module to hide root to certain apps, not 100% sure though..
A simple google search would answer your question: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=hide+root+access+android+xposed+module
But any ways here is the right module: http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.devadvance.rootcloak
It's called rootcloak. Remember: you need the Xposed Framework!

I couldn't even find the app?
Just wondering what peoples thoughts are about granting su. I've always used supersu by chainfire since the day i first rooted my n7. But I've heard lots of good things about the new superuser from clockworkmod (koush).. Its open source, supports multi user, can be integrated directly into a ROM (ie in system and settings menu). Actually the ROM i use now has it integrated into the system. Haven't had any problems with it yet, but i never really had any problems with supersu either. What do all ya'll prefer?
I now use Koush's Superuser app. Its designed for the new Jelly Bean multiusers scheme, you can for example select for only owner to have root access. I also like the option of having to enter PIN number to allow root access for new apps.

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum so please be gentle
I have a Nexus 7 16GB tablet, which I have rooted using the Nexus Root Toolkit.
I have 2 user accounts set up in the tablet. When I installed StickMount yesterday, my USB OTG cable was detected in the main account and I could browse the files; but in the second account, it gives an error saying 'StickMount has stopped working'. I tried removing the 2nd account and re-adding it again, but the problem persists.
I hope you guys can shed some insight into what the problem might be.

Okay, This may not be a solution but I think the problem may be something like this. StickMount requires root access. Your main(Old) account have the root access but the new one doesn't have it. Can you check in SuperSU if StickMount is getting root access in the second account.

Hi Ashik,
Thank you for your reply.
Yes, I have root access in for the 2nd user as well.
In the 2nd user account, when an app requires root (for example ES File Explorer), SuperSU asks me for root access permission. But the weird thing is that when I launch StickMount, SuperSU doesn't ask for any permission and I get the message 'Unfortunately, StickMount has stopped'.
I have no such problem for the 1st user account, where I launch StickMount, SuperSU asks for access permission the first time and then the app works as desired.
I'm just really confused. I tried reinstalling StickMount on only the 2nd user account, after uninstalling on the 1st user account, but the problem still persists. If this is some problem with SuperSU, I have absolutely no idea of how to re-install it because there is no uninstall option for it.
Any more suggestions are most welcome.

Yes, I have StickMount installed on both accounts. I just uninstalled for the first user to see if that would make a difference, but it didn't, so I re-installed it.
IMPORTANT: A strange thing I noticed now > I uninstalled ES File Explorer, Ad Away and Clean Master for the 2nd user. When re-installing them, SuperSU asked for root access permissions for Ad Away and Clean Master, but didn't do so for ES File Explorer.
Is there some problem with the 'rooting' for the 2nd user, where some apps get/are asked for root access and others don't? Maybe that's why StickMount might be giving an error?
Any suggestions?
I think with the new updates of ES, you have to enable root within the app before it will ask for root.

In SU does it list 'StickMount' and say 'grant' for access on the second account?

Hey!
Yes you're right - I had to grant root access within ES File Explorer after which SuperSU asked for permission.
Which means, SuperSU doesn't seem to be the problem and my device IS properly rooted for both accounts.
I uninstalled StickMount and tried another app (USB OTG Helper), but it too doesn't work... click on Mount, it says no drives mounted. The problem only seems to be for USB OTG detection/apps failing on the 2nd user account.
Weird, very weird
Now that I think about it, I think I read something about OTG not working for secondary accounts... I could be mistaken though

No, StickMount does work for secondary accounts. It works on my friend's Nexus 7. I guess I'll just have to unroot and reroot the device to see if the problem is solved
Thanks for your help though!
HELP: StickMount Not Working For 2ND User
I am experiencing the exact same problem on my Nexus 7 (2012) running Android 4.4.2 and rooted with SuperSU v1.86. I would like to know if you found a solution to the problem and if you did could you please post your results for solving this?
Thanks in advance:
KodachromeBob
I'm having the same problem. Stickmount works five on the primary account, but the restricted account I keep getting the message that stickmount stopped working. In SuperSU I enabled multi user support. It's working, because other root apps have asked for root permission on that account, and they work after I grant permission.
