Every time I go into Settings/Storage/Cached data and hit it to clear it I start getting this "No external storage" error when I go to Camera or gallery. Takes a reboot to get rid if it. Android 4.2.1 stock.
Anyone else can reproduce this too?

Are you doing this while the phone is plugged in?
No. Not plugged into anything. You cannot reproduce this?

Just tried it had about 250mb cache -> 1mb. Didn't get any pop up.

I just had this one a while ago. I had the phone charging from the power outlet. I unplugged it and after a while decided to try and take a picture. Launched the camera and got that message.
I then launched root explorer to see if it doesn't really see the external storage which wasn't the case as I was able to browse my files. A quick reboot cleared the error. I havent been able to replicate the issue so far.

I get this popup and upon clearing I consistently can get this error.

I tried resetting to factory and still can replicate this via this method of Clearing up Cached data.

I believe its a bug of some sort for JB camera itself. I tried to clear cache again through settings. It the displays the same error. I launched task manager list and swiped the camera app out of the list. I relaunched camera and it ran fine. Better than rebooting the entire phone.
I use a third party app to clear my cache anyway and that doesn't seem to affect the camera.

What app do you use to clear cache?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
You u have somehow set it to cache to external memory or some other app done it?

If that was for me, then No. I have not changed anything to cache any different than what stock does. No changes. This is a bug it seems in JB. I flashed the Google images again to make sure it wasn't anything I had done.

Did you go to Storage, and clicked on 'Cached Data' to clear it? If that's what you did, then you will get this error next time you go to Gallery/Camera. If you want to clear cached data (and not see this error), remove the camera/Gallery apps from the 'Recent Apps' list BEFORE clearing cache.

Just installed Camera 4.2 and got the same message. Did the reboot and was able to use both the camera and gallery.
It worked for me

What do you mean by 'recent apps' list? Where can i find it?

Recent apps refers to the app switcher or the (by default) right-most button in the navigation bar (with the icon of two boxes).

Since I purchased the phone layar has not worked. Each time I go to run it at the bottom it says updating featured.....it just sits there. Anyone else seeing this issue?

Haven't had the problem myself. Assuming you've already power cycled, try clearing the application data (settings> manage applications> layer> clear data.) Then force stop.
If it doesn't show up in the list goto menu> filter> all.
If it still isn't working and you care enough to trouble shoot further, you can try a master reset or take out back to the store, though the above should fix it...

I've had this happen once or twice. I just blame the GPS and try again later.
Install GPS Status or GPS Test (I prefer the former) and check how many sats you have locked in.
Ive just noticed that when i go into my apps in the new market after upgrading my phone to JPX it is only showing me 2 paid apps and none of the free ones that i have downloaded... which is a lot...
Is there a way of getting these back and also what happens when there is updates available? will i be notified of these or not?
I find a specific app in the markdet that i have installed it shows as installed, its just when i go into the my apps part.
Thanks for any help given.
go to settings, applications, manage applications, select the market app, clear data, clear cache.

Your thread title isn't good at all.
There is a thread with the same stuff just only a few lines downwards and the answer / solution to your problem:

The server error thing has nothing to do with the firmware, it's an issue with the market server. Started to happen last night.
So is everyone else having this problem? Tried everything recommended but its still the same

I'm getting an alert that phone's storage space is getting low. 255mb used and 55mb free. I store every app I can on the sd card.
Anybody know what I can do?

Clean your internet cache ?
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
is there any way to do that for all at once or do I have to do that application by application?
I find that App2SD (free on market) is really useful for clearing any cache, probably has a good chance of fixing your issue aswell as checking that all your apps that can be moved are moved
done that. but nothing changes. still only 34MB available after clearing all cache. and still get the warning notification in the drop down bar.
You could try a cleaning app such as android optimize tool it's developed by a member overhere
you can find it in the forums or on the market (free).

it won't even let me install that app. not enough memory left.
can u install disk usage from market and let me know whats occupying more space on ur device(if possible attach screen shot)? also let me know if ur device is rooted ??
will do that right now. gotta charge it first.
device is not rooted. just updated from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 then installed swiftkey x and got the error message. deleted a few apps that can only be stored on the phone's memory and still getting the error. i'll do the disk usage shortly.
Without root cant really take screenshots.

Try LINK to sd, on the market. You'll need to partition your sd card-Google it-but it'll sort that out.

that's good if you have root.
you may have to resort to a wipe. this once happened to me with my htc desire, a wipe was all that fixed it
anyone got any more tips to solve this?
got this message on mine, deleted a load of apps, photos, internet cache etc but still got the error message.
really annoying as I can't download or update any apps!
Thought I might as well reply to myself.
The low storage space on my arc was casued by downloading all my emails. If you wait the list of apps on storage used screen will reorgnaise into spaced used order. I deleted all old emails and the problem was fixed.
Now my arc is running really slow. Anyone know how to solve that
Try a cache cleaner from the market.

Tried reboot?
Saw a strange thing in my Nexus 7(8 GB) today. When I go into Settings -> Storage, and then click on the 'Pictures, Videos' button, it opens up the Gallery, but the entire screen is blank (black) and no pictures or videos show up, despite waiting. If, however, I go to the Gallery app directly, it loads all my applications absolutely fine. Is this something that others have seen/ are seeing in their tablets as well?
Sorry if this question has already been asked before. I tried searching for it but couldn't find anything.
My N7 is being replaced, but i think this works. Once in gallery thru storage menu press settings>make available offline (or similar), pin the ones you want and then retry (you may have to restart the device). Confused the hell outta me for ages!

Hi Guys!
New to android after years with my iphone, and I'm loving it!
However, everytime I try to open a link etc I get a box that says "complete action using" and a list of apps I can open it with.
For example, a youtube link in the browser will ask me if I want to make the youtube app the default action.
I click ALWAYS, but then the next link I click on asks me the same message again. No matter what I do, I can not get my phone to set any defaults.
It's getting very frustrating making extra button presses to open every file and/or link on my phone.
Anyone else have this happen?
If I go to the task manager, I can see the defaults I want are in fact there, and I can clear them and start over but no matter what I do the phone just won't use them.
I'm using the stock launcher, and having the same problems with Nova.
Thanks for your advice!
Hi,
Out of interest, did you have this issue before installing Nova?

to be honest, I'm not 100 percent sure because I'm so new to this phone.
Do you recommend me uninstalling Nova? If thats what it takes to fix it, then I don't need Nova that badly!
edit: ok I removed Nova and the problem still exists
Am I the only one with this problem?
Hi,
Something to test/try but pick an app that you don't mind losing your settings or data for, e.g YouTube.
Go into Settings, General (tab), Application manager, All (tab), and find an app you've already set to be default (but it keeps asking). Go into the app and clear cache and data. Now open a link or whatever, get asked the 'default' question etc and repeat to see if that cures it.
If not we might look to clear the main cache next (will explain). Don't be put off Android or the N3 with this - both are fabulous and worst case it might just be necessary to backup your stuff and factory wipe/reset.

well, the solution for me was to factory wipe, bummer! problem fixed though.
If this happens again, I hope to find a better solution!
Thanks for your help Jonty
You could have tried clearing the defaults for the app first in settings/general/applications. (clearing the cache and data does not clear the defaults, that button is a bit lower.)

Hello,
I have cleared my main cache and still every single time I click on (for example) a name on the imdb.com website it asks me to choose and app. I have selected the App multiple times and ALWAYS hit "Always" when I choose it. Can I get help on backing up my data and then resetting my phone and then putting data, contacts, photos, etc back onto my phone.
Thank you,
