Automatic sim unlock - Galaxy S III General

Yesterday when i rooted my phone, flashed Liquidsmooth rc9 and then reseted via triangleaway and flashed a sweden carrier rom and then the poland rom my phone worked with my old operator.
Does root actually remove sim lock?

Root doesnt unlock your phone however there is an app available in the market which allows you to sim unlock if youre rooted.
Google it.. you will find it
Edit: its called galaxsim unlock

rooting is not jailbreak,
so its not the same,
rooting is giving applications the ability to modify the system ROM,
there is a app on playstore called "galaxy toolbox" by Doky,
after root just download the app for network unlock

Finally found a place to shoe horn in my first post!!
Yes mate, all you need is GalaxSim Unlock from the Play Store. Open the app, then simply press the 'unlock' button. Job done!

In order to use galaxysim you have to have root permissions, also galaxysim.seems to require an inapp purchase unlock galaxy s is free. As for will this effect updates if you root. The answer is yes at least through.OTA, but you can unroot after you unlock and you should be fine.

Sim unlock (operator) NOT regional lock - possible with tools from XDA?

There was sim unlock for my old trusted i9100. Are there same tools/method for N9005?
Yeah. Just download the RegionAway made by Chainfire from the playstore. Its a paid app but very cheap. It will sim unlock and region unlock your N9005. At least it did for me. You will need to root your phone though to make the application run and do its thing. My N9005 was SIM locked to 3 UK network. After rooting, downloading and running chainfire's app, i am now using my Tmobile UK sim in it. Best of luck and hope this helps. Let me know if i can be of assistance.

Thanks! Very interesting indeed! But I wonder what Chainfire will say about sim unlock. Coz he says "but it may or may not remove the SIM lock". If it removes SIM Lock and Regoin Lock it is miracle app!
And very cheap really! But it is easier for me to donate via paypal.
sim unlock

If you are a 3 user I believe they will sim unlock it for free. Most UK providers will offer this service but some may charge .

Unlocking with carrier provided code

My contract just expired so got an unlock code from AT&T, but it doesn't work. According to the instruction email, it won't work on a rooted device.
Does anyone have experience, if I odin to stock, would the unlock code work, and if the phone would stay unlocked if I flash a custom ROM?
Also, could anyone post the files to odin to MDL? The link it the thread that had it no longer works.
Thanks.

You cant unlock with at&t sim!!
You need tmobile sim card to unlock. If you tried already go head back to stock do unlock aim with different carried sim then flash what ever rom you want.
Good luck

Thanks. Luckily I have a Peruvian SIM card, from when I traveled, I used that to trigger the code and failed twice to unlock. I know I only have 5 attempts total so I wanted to make sure to get it right the next time. Did you tried just unrooting on your custom ROM? I'm wondering if that would be enough or going back to stop is required.

Flashing another firmware will not help to unlock your device.
Typically you will need the unlock code to unlock the phone.
You can buy it online, or follow this topic to request it for free (if any luck).
