So this is weird. I have two nexus s devices. One device is detected by my windows laptop as usb mass storage device just fine and I can browse my /sdcard just fine. My other nexus s is not detected as usb mass storage device, only as ADB interface so I cannot browse my /sdcard in windows. I thought it was the phone so I plugged it into my ubuntu laptop and ubuntu detects the usb mass storage just fine and opens /sdcard. Can anybody help me understand what is going on here? Should I uninstall the adb drivers from windows and try again? Maybe if I uninstall the adb drivers windows doesn't get confused and open the phone as a usb mass storage device? Both phones have USB debugging disabled.
Fews days bck my Nexus S had same issue, device was not detecting to PC ... But after 20-25 days it was gone fine again automatically ... Now my device works fine ... Do know what happend to it
I had a similar issue, I couldn't connect as Mass Storage Mode. But if I booted into Recovery, I could mount the phone and it would come up as a drive like it's supposed to.
Turned out to be Marmite 7.1.2. I updated to 7.1.4 and all is good.
Also try Settings > Storage > <menu button> > USB computer connection > MTP. Even though Mass Storage is working for me, I switched to MTP. It connects and transfers faster.
My computer detects my phone but I can't access the storage every time I do it says software or I/o error.

mounts on CWM 6.0.1.0 but not on v6.0.4.3
I have installed CM11 snapshot on my nexus s
For that CWM v6.0.4.3 is required.
But this wouldnt let me mount the usb storage even in recovery
So while in bootloader i flashed CWM 6.0.1.0 using ADB from pc
Now usb storage mounts.
Is everybody else facing the same problem or is there a stable CWM v6.0.4.3 which mounts usb storage?

Please ensure your device is connected to your machine and CWM is loaded.
On a Windows Machine do the following:
Navigate to Device Manager (Win + Pause|Break Key > Select 'Device Manager')
Locate device within the list that has an exclamation mark beside it (remove USB cable and reinsert to see if actions correspond with item visibility)
Ensuring that your USB cable is connected, right click on the device you located in Device Manager...
select 'Update Driver Software' > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer > Highlight 'USB Composite Device' (ensure 'Show compatatible hardware' was ticked before proceeding) > Finally Select Next.
The driver will now install. Once it has simply remove the USB Cable from your device and reinsert. This will initiate the re-assigned driver. You can proceed with mounting your Storage via CWM.
You should now see your device, Nexus S, is listed within Device Manager. You can proceed with installing the ADB driver's if you wish, or simply skip this step as it is not essential for USB Mass Storage operation.
@Stickman89 Thanks
Its not working
I can see adb android composite device
Can u give me the link from where you downloaded cwm 6.0.4.3 for nexus s?

Hello! (first post , have been reading for a while though)
I can't connect the phone to my PC (win7 64bit), not as a mass storage device or with Kies (it worked fine before with my home PC and an XP machine at work).
It stopped working after the PC said "Device drivers installed properly" (or something like that) when I connected it, after that I have'nt been able to make it work as mass storage device on any computer..
Very strange and very annoying!
I'm thinking I might factory reset the phone (would very anti-nice though to loose all apps and stuff), so I thought I'd ask here first if there are any possible solutions..
Thx!
if you open device manager in Win7 x64 do you see it listed as GT-I9000 in Portable Devices ?
that's what it shows in mine, and i'm on x64 Win7
it automatically opens in Mass Storage also works in Kies
WEE!! Got it to work just now!!
Rebooted the phone (as I do every day) and connected it to charge over night, and windows popped up with the "installing device driver blabla dialogue" and suddenly it works!?!
This after not working for at least a week on any computer...
I have no idea what might have caused it, but I'm just happy it works again
Still, very strange...
It shows up in the device manager now, it did'nt before.. Thx for the reply!
On Win XP
is there a certain driver i have to download before using USB Mass Storage option.
all i get are two removable drives icon. but they can't be opened
you should only have 1 removeable device icon, 2 if you have a micro SD card inserted.
if you configure the phone to ask you what to do with the usb during connection, then you can select Kies or Mass Storage
regardless both works fine
i do have two removable drives because of the addition of the sd card
its set on Mass Storage. but it still won't open. im not sure if Windows installed it properly though
the driver details:
driver files- system32\drivers\USBSTOR.sys
does it shows in device manager, as mentioned above ?

After connecting the phone via USB, did tell the phone to Mount the drives?
anyone else encountered this issue?
Is anyone else having trouble connecting their Galaxy to a PC? I don't know whether mine is faulty or not. Downloaded the Samsung Kies software but when I plug in the Galaxy Windows is unable to find a MTP USB device driver and the phone refuses to connect. This happens Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Also the Galaxy has a complete fit and keeps flashing between the home screen and MTP application screen while it's connected (wxw.youtube.com/watch?v=R9hdpJPCP-k). And I don't get the usual Android option to mount for file transfer. Am I missing something?

finally managed to fix tis stupid kies connection problem...if anyone encountering the same issue jus do a factory restore n format ur internal sd card
I don't know what happened, but I can no longer mount the SD card via USB. I've spent half the afternoon trying to fix the drivers, and I end up in the exact same place I was before.
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and CyanogenMod 6 RC2 on the phone. I have ADB set up and, to my knowledge, the drivers for it are working. ADB devices recognized my phone.
When I try to mount the SD card, the phone shows "USB storage in use," but it doesn't show up on my computer. Normally I get a little popup asking if I want to open the folder to view files. In Device Manager, it shows a little warning on USB Mass Storage Device which I believe is the phone. If I right-click and go to Properties, is says "This device cannot start. (Code10)" (see first thumbnail).
Here's the weird part: If I boot into recovery and select to mount the storage card, it will mount (see second thumbnail).
Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.
Did you try it with a different card? Or this card in card reader? You have to rule out simple things first, like weird card corruption.
I've tried a different card. No difference.
I uninstalled all the drivers and restarted my computer. When I plugged the phone in, I got the following message. Something called MTP did not install successfully. Anyone know what to do about this?
Well, after numerous cycles of uninstalling and attempting to reinstall the drivers, I still had no idea what the problem was. I uninstalled all the drivers and ran a utility on my PC to clean and fix problems in the registry. I rebooted it and then plugged the phone in. It installed the drivers and now both ADB and USB storage work.
Strange thing is, I don't see an entry for Android ADB Interface in the device manager any more. I see Android USB Drivers and the USB Mass Storage though, so I guess that's all it needs.
I have my Samsung epic installed to my computer.
-SAMSUNG Android Composite ADB Interface: installed with Samsung drivers.
-SAMSUNG Android USB Composite Device: Installed with Samsung drivers.
-Android UMS DISK USB Device: installed with two Microsoft drivers.
No matter if usb debugging is on or off, when i click to mount/transfer sdcard files nothing happens. When usb debugging is off it says autoplay, but no folder opens after that. Should their be a google or android driver signed with the ums disk usb device.
Im running 32 bit windows xp. Please help me, i cannot transfer any files, and ive been wanting to learn how to root but i cant do anything If i cant even mount my sd card properly
I have Xp too and idk when but i used to have 0 problems using USB Mass Storage Mode and all of a sudden, idk , what i did but it doesn't work anymore. I know it's my PC /setup because I take my phone over to my friends Vista PC and it goes into USB Mass Storage Mode just fine. Everything is already installed on their PC cause they have an Epic as well. A tmp solution that has become a permanent one for me is to download the Dropbox app and create an account and well there you go. Mass storage mode in the "cloud" for ya.

I had the same problem with my desktop. Only connects with USB ports from back of computer. Try some other ports maybe.
I had the same problem for about 2 months, best solution is to buy a different cord, I use the Evo's and it works fine
Assuming you aren't using the ghetto cheap cable that came with the epic, i would use another port. I had the same problem with one of my pc's.
i just got my epic fri and am experiencing this problem. i also went and bought a new usb cable and nothing i seem to do works.
it also interferes with my usb wireless adapter. when i plug it in my internet just comes to a halt and then comes right back to life as soon as i unplug it...

what kind of usb u have Cuz the samsung USB Brakes Real easy U should Try HTC USB Or Just Buy another like I did
When using the stock samsung cable, i have to plug it into a usb port in the back of my computer, when using the htc evo usb cord I can plug it into any port but still am faced with the dilemma. Is there a special driver associated with android ums disk drive besides the ones microsoft provides?
Dear all,
I've been using Defy for 6 months, been alright, but for the last 2 wks, I have stopped being able to connect to my Defy's Memory card via USB cable anymore. I think perhaps I did uninstall some moto drivers or something, so I decided to reinstall it, but that wont help.
All it notify me on my Win 7 when I connect my defy is "Android ADB Device connected"
How am I supposed to solve this problem?
Thanks so much in advance,
You shouldn't need any drivers to connect to the memory card. When you plug the cable into the Defy, pull down the notification bar and select the USB Mass Storage option, then tap OK. (Also, go into your settings and make sure USB Debugging is not enabled.) The Defy will act like a USB thumb drive.
thanks a bunch, i forgot to turn it off, never thought bout that before.
i just updated to Wajkiui 1.12.16 today, n it just happened again. Can't connect to my sdcard even thou i turned usb debugging off already.
I tried going to recovery, and mount SD card through recovery menu, but nothing show up in my computer.
My external HDD can connect pretty well w the same usb port ... what on earth might be happening w my fone n pc?
I have same problem with Defy+
I have installed ICS.
In system menu I have "USB Debugging" OFF and if I select "Share SD Card",
USB debugging is still on and I cannot connect to SD card.
I really need help, I think I screwed up a lot.
I've tried to flash a different ROM, but did not think that it was good.
So here is my big mistake, i have wiped it all away, also my backup, the only thing i can start up is TWRP v2.7.0.0.
I cant flash because i did not enable USB DEBUGGING before Wipe.
So i bought an OTG cable, but when i try to connect it, it wont mount..
Is there anything i can do, is there anyone that can help me.:crying:
My Phone is a LG G2 D802 without SD card slot..

Usb otg is for flash disks
take a flash disk (usb drive), format it @ FAT32
copy over your rom and flash it.
Or simply connect the device to the computer and push via
"adb push rom.zip /sdcard/rom.zip"
also usb debugging off/on is only for android (which is alive).
Feel free to ask.

Thanks for answer.
The problem is that when i connect a USB flash drive, it wont mount it.
And when i try to connect my phone to my PC through with ADB i cant see it, not even inside Device Manager, and i have installed ADB drivers many different ones in hope to make it work.
When i use my girlfriends phone that are the same model, then it works.
I have been reading that the PC can not see the Phone with out USB DEBUGGING activated.
But i do believe that with the right command inside TERMINAL of TWRP i can activate USB DEBUGGING.
try formatting into fat32 - the usb
