Saving unlimited on Verizon. - Networking

So I've heard around the grapevine that a good way and only way that you could save your unlimited data is by adding an account...now I don't know if this is true which is why I'm bringing this up. Maybe someone can clarify this if its true or not....

This can work but do you really need unlimited data? Please make sure you verifiy just how much data you use and if you have more than two smartphones start by finding out how much everyone uses on average..A lot of people are putting themselves into 2 year contracts and adding lines and all this extra stuff for absolutely no reason! Now if you need unlimited data you can buy your own device. Adding a line Verizon will more than likely move you to share everything plan

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I didn't give enough info. It would just be nice to hang on to it knowing that I don't have to worry about checking my data all the time n such. Now I really haven't checked how much I use or my wife uses. She probably doesn't go over a gig in a month. I, maybe 3 if that. I use WiFi quite often and I know that helps not use up data...we have just 2 phones and upgrades are in February. I didn't know if maybe if I add a line, then cancel my line, would that work?....I was just curious about this.

Has Verizon updated their unlimited data plan? I've had it or a few years now and was wondering what the latest guidelines I should follow to keep the plan intact when my contact renews next summer.

No they never updated it. The only way that I had heard about keeping unlimited was buying phones full retail price. But then heard about if adding a line you could get around it and not having to buy a full priced phone. So if you have two lines open. Add a third one when your due for an upgrade. Then cancel one of your previous lines and still end up with two lines only your able to get a new phone..... This is not 100% for sure tho. Which is why I asked this question for more info on it

Verizon Unlimited Data Scam?

Does this sound fishy or does anyone know any truth to this?
Thought I would check eBay for some unlimited data plans and I found some.
I eBay searched "Verizon unlimited data"
A couple sellers are selling current contracts and claiming that they will somehow put them in your name. Is this possible? Maybe they work in tech support?
One other seller is claiming that their company is the only one in the US that can add a "VIP data plan" to new or existing customers.
Any knowledge or feedback is appreciated. Check out the auctions and see what u think. FYI I am a new VZ customer still in the cancellation period.

It is possible to transfer a name to another person's account. Its called an AOL (Assumption of Liability). However, ever if the person's account you are transferring to is in good standing, I'm pretty sure you'll still need to pass a credit check to be eligible to take it over.
AOLs are pretty popular due to some people wanting to get out of their wireless contract without paying the ETF by giving it to someone else. And others will be happy to take them over due to having grandfathered features no longer offered to brand new accounts such as unlimited data with Verizon Wireless.
Thanks Nerdydesi. Ant thoughts on the second option?

How to get Verizon Unlimited Data without going through loop holes
There's a better route!
Email this guy verizon.unlimited.data @ gmail.com
ask him about a VIP Pass which will get you unlimited data
He's hooked up several people on XDA with Unlimited Data and he's legit!
Thinking about getting one
BigMiggen did you buy it yet? I also contacted this guy on Ebay about the unlimited data plan, no answer as of yet.
No not yet. I got the double data at 4 gigs and want to see how much I'm actually gonna use first. Watching Netflix looks like the only way to go over for me. I might email that guy and see how much he wants.

Just sent an e-mail his way, keeping my fingers crossed. 4G LTE does not deserve to be limited!!! Coming from ATT unlimited, I'm starting to miss it. As much trouble as they gave me.
By the way, went into a Verizon Wireless store today and attempted to get the rumored unlimited tether plan (even though I'm not grandfathered) from a rep who said it would work - they attempted to add said plan and continued to receive an error. After calling into Verizon Customer Care, the rep on the line confirmed it's been disabled. So even if you are able to fool some rep, if they attempt to put it in, their system will throw an error.
I emailed him 10 days ago. No reply.

Okay I found out how to get the unlimeted everything for $99 a month. I will make a new post on how to do this once I get my first bill. It works for new and existing customers. Existing customers can early upgrade without penalty as well.
The company has a business plan they put you on and bill you directly. I will update and put a link to the new post once I get my first bill from them to make sure it's legit. Although I am typing this on my new s3 they sent me for $150.

My dad can upgrade his phone, but he doesn't want to, so can I use his upgrade to get a new phone for myself? We have a Verizon family plan, I have unlimited 3g plan, and he just has a normal non 3g phone.

as long as he doesn't mind extending/renewing his contract... you might want to remind them what your plan is so that they don't add data to his plan.
O I want to do it online, or I can't?
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda premium
I don't think you can do it online, But you can most definitely do it in-store.
My Fiance actually used my upgrade about a year ago.
I personally would rather do it in store anyways, just so I don't have to wait for the phone to ship lol.
Idk about you guys but I get very antsy when I'm waiting for a package to ship. I'm actually waiting for a phone to get to me right now and I've been checking the tracking any chance I get
I have tried to switch phones using myverizon.com and it doesn't have an option for unlimited data. to make sure I don't lose it I have always called them.
Once when I was trying to add a phone line using a phone we got on craiglist, the store got confused and added a two year contract....
don't leave the store with out double or triple checking to make sure they understand. hopefully you will get someone smarter than the person we spoke with.
That's what I'm worried about when my upgrade comes around in August. I do not want to loose my unlimited data..

So I have been following this all day in the SGS3 forums (see here) and the servers got hit so bad that many users were without data AND calling for up to 5hours. Obviously this is a big deal and tons of people are switching but just be patient. My wife is going to the store (you can do it on-line too) tomorrow to set it up for us. I'll post updates if we hit any roadblocks.
Edit:: Ok so my wife went to do this today and she said it was like a mob scene. Said that there were people everywhere and the employees were cooking out promoting this whole thing. Took her about an hour to get through the line and get everything switched over. I got a text at work about a hour ago and it said that our plan changed. I check and it is unlimited and no interuption in service either.
Woody like, hehe!!!
Oh and they say that the HotSpot doesn't work, but it does. I checked. You can also go to the market and get Foxfi if you don't have the HS already.

Best (cheapest) prepaid GSM plan?

Hello-
I am trying to figure out what is the cheapest GSM prepaid plan in the United States. So far, the cheapest I have found is either AT&T's $25 unlimited talk and text plus $5 for 50 MB data or T-mobile's $30 Monthly4g unimited talk text, adn 5gb data. What plan are you guys using to get the most amount of data for the least amount of money? I don't mind going with an MVNO because they have pretty good coverage in my area. (Albuquerque, NM)
Thanks,
wws12
Anyone?
Theoretically speaking, if your main concern is data then you should probably choose an unlimited data plan to get the most out of your money. (Assuming you use that much data).
I can give some good suggestions if you could tell me your average calling, texting, and data usage. Also if you must have GSM, most prepaid just happen to be CDMA *shrugs*

It doesn't have to be GSM, but in my investigations those plans were the cheapest. I mainly want to use it for VoIP with GrooveIP for calls and GVoice for texting. Thnaks for your help!
Let's see... Virgin Mobile has unlimited data and texting, 100 minutes calling for $35 a month. The T mobile plan you found is cheaper but 5GB of data. This depends on if you are going to use more than 5GB or not...

I want to use a phone such as the Motorola Defy as prepaid. I was going to get the Droid X but found that it couldn't be flashed to other carriers than Verizon.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Are you sure you want the Motorola Defy... ? Republic Wireless has the Defy XT as their only available phone, but they have a different business model.
$20 a month unlimited everything, but depends on WiFi. However nothing is stopping you from sticking to their 3G (Sprint) full time. Big problem is that they are in beta and if you sign up now it could be months until you get the phone. (I'm sure once you are up and running it rocks, but the limited phone choice and waiting time is way too long).
Do you want a rugged phone or a Motorola phone or what? Why do you choose the Defy?
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
I chose the Defy because it had a stable ICS ROM and for the fact that it was GSM which I had thought was the best deal at the time. Thanks for the information about Republic Wireless
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
So you have decided to go with Republic?
I was mainly wondering about why you wanted the Defy because it has pretty old hardware. If you still want to consider Virgin and want ICS they have the HTC EVO V, HTC One V, and soon to be released Samsung Galaxy Reverb.
(That t mobile plan you found is actually very good, 5GB is plenty of data. Virgin just has a better plan if you use more than that, which is quite rare in fact)
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
I want GSM because that will allow me to easily switch carriers at a later date if I need to. Are there any better phones than the Defy that are $150 or less on Amazon? Thanks for all your help, BTW!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
No problem glad to help
I understand that, in that case that t mobile prepaid plan definitely seems to be a good deal.
As for a phone, I don't go on Amazon since prices are usually higher, but I do know on eBay you can get a galaxy s (for 4g you need the Samsung galaxy s 4g but it has less dev support than the Samsung vibrant which only has 3g) for $150 or less. Any galaxy s variant blows the defy out of the water for sure
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
I usually don't shop eBay because of the possibility of scammers. I'll look at the galaxy s variants though. Which would you say has the best dev support? I need at least a stable ICS, if not JB. Thanks!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
All galaxy s were very popular and all have great dev support. Since you were looking at the defy I'm going to assume 4g isn't big on your requirements list and in that case the Samsung vibrant is the phone for you!
Most popular galaxy s from my general knowledge is the cappy aka Samsung Captivate. Unfortunately since it is at&t 3g it will only work on t-mobile 2g (ugh!)
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
How much is the Vibrant online?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
On amazon it appears to be $200+
On eBay they go as low as $120 and the Captivate gets even cheaper like $110.
What I like to think of eBay is the whole virus thing on Android. More scams/viruses happen on ebay/Android, but that is because there are more sellers/is more open. You just have to be smart and look at feedback/permissions. Does that seller/app have low feedback score/want to manage your sms and calls? Then don't trust him,her/it
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
OK thanks. Quick question that maybe you can answer. On at&t, their prepaid go phone plans include a 100 minute/unlimited text plan for $25/mo. For smartphones you need a data plan which they have in various denominations, but the one I'm interested in is the $5 for 50MB one. If I don't renew the $25 plan, will I lose the data also? Or will it still continue? Thanks!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
They require you to be using the $25 or $50 plan in addition to data every month.
They actually used to have a rule of having $25 in your account every 90 days with whatever data plan you feel like tacking on, but since April 2012 they require to have a monthly text / call plan.

Does AT&T have Nexus 4? Reason for asking is

I don't want the phone to be recognized by them as something they carry to avoid data plan. Not completely familiar with this phone (like the S2/i9100 etc.)
Thanks,
It will be. Its not an international phone that is only sold in other countries and shipped here. Its designed to work with all GSM US carriers.

Actually, my dad and I have been using the n4 with no data plan. Once I activated the phone I had my data blocked. Some people were saying that they got changed from the $15 unlimited dumb phone to the smartphone plan. However, I still had my data blocked since day one. You could even ask for it to be blocked before you can't your n4. You can block your data with no problem.

The N4 has already been flagged by AT&T as a smartphone and multiple people have posted. Figuring out whether a phone's dumb or smart is very easy for AT&T (or any other carrier) as the first eight characters of the IMEI identify the make and model (Type Allocation Code) of the phone.

Annoyed. Got the dreaded ATT text that I wasn't using the correct data plan for the nexus 4. Was using it on $10 non smart data plan.
AT&T Free Msg: Did you know a data plan is required for your Smartphone? We have added an appropriate data plan. Learn more at www.att.com/dataplans.
Online management shows phone as being unrecognized but they apparently know the phone is a smartphone.
Even the email I got from ATT says
"For whatever reason, our records indicate your Smartphone does not have an eligible data plan. We have added an appropriate Smartphone data plan for your device"
So unlike the Galaxy nexus, ATT does force the $30 data plan. I guess the LG Optimus G is so similar to the Nexus 4 ATT can see it as a smartphone.
It's weird cause the international Galaxy S3 was never recognized on my account when I had it on the $10 data plan.
