I just order this phone online yesterday and was wanting to get a general consensus on the battery life on the phone... Coming from an HD2 and a nexus one before and a G1 before that I am tired of using smartphones with horrible battery life... I'm hoping to get battery life similar to that of the blackberry 9700 (I had that between my G1 and Nexus) which i was ver impressed with it's battery getting up to 2 days out of it sometimes... Is the battery anything close to that? or is it another fail for smartphone batteries?

The battery life on the Vibrant is right up there with the best of a powerful smartphone with a large screen. It will not be like the BB however.
I love the battery life on this phone I have only charged it twice sense last Thursday I seem to be getting 24 hours of normal use or more off this battery. Normal use for me is lots of testing and browsing the net I also been showing off avatar been using the battery for that.

I too recently ordered this phone, and if the battery alone is better than then G1 I'll be happy. So far alot of good reviews. So hopefully a charger in my back pocket wont be necessary. I'll repost once I get it on Monday or Tuesday!
My nexus one got me about 4.5 to 5 hours heavy usage. This gets me 6 hours of heavy usage (straight internet). My n1 lasted a day of moderate usage, I noticed standby wasnt to great on it, but the vibrant I bet I could get 2 days light to moderate usage as I can already tell the Standby time kicks the arse off the n1....

I once had a G1, worst battery ever! You will be pleased with this one!
I haven't been overly impressed with the battery life. I might have something installed that is sucking it dry but 8-10 hours is all I get from a charge (Of course this is during the initial "wow" period of getting a new phone).
Did my 1st battery test yesterdy. Unplugged it from the charger at 11am. Sittin at the throne browsing fb & twitter, email, xda (legs ended up falling aslep lol) Used camera & video for about 30 mins on the biggest resolution. Daughter was on youtube for about an hour in the car (Weird Al Yankovic's trapped in the drive thru on repeat smh). Surfing the web for a good 45 mins while wifey & daughter shopping. Watchng avatar. Get home at around 10pm and battery just now dopped to 50%. Best battery ive had since my bb8700! hopefully a higher mah stock size battery is in the work so my vibrant can go on beast mode!
Lol I had the 9700 no smart phone would have the battery life that thing has unless a new form of battery technology emerges that thing best point is to live

FYI just got mine and it is charging now. At the store I checked out the battery stats on the demo unit (in theory it has had a good deal of play time from customers) and it was at 32% and unplugged for 2 days and like 5 hours. That is damn GOOD. If we get custom kernels on this thing, that would be intense.
I think it's pretty bad. I only have exchange email on it and nothing else syncing. Even when I'm not using it much the battery is down to 70%. What's worse is that the battery meter will appear to be 100% even when it's downto 82%. I have to charge it after about 8 hours and keep in mind I have a 9700 that is my #1 for email and messaging via bbm. I could only imagine if this were my only phone. I'd probably need to find a charge after 6 hours. It's better than the hd2 however but I go 2 days without charging my blackberry so I hope that's not what you're looking for.
I will however any that for a super android device it probably had the best battery when compared to the evo, incredible, droid x etc

You can get a good 10 to 12 hours out of it with heavy usage, which is great for a smart phone .
In terms of fast, large screen smartphones, the battery life is slightly better than average in my opinion. It's a 1500mah pack as compared to the 1150mah pack in my G1. It's definitely not to the point where I would like it to be, but there isn't a phone on the market that can really provide me with that capability (unless some type of new battery tech comes out).
You can just go into your settings, then about phone and then battery usage and you'll see a breakdown of what your usage was since the last time it was plugged in charging. For me the screen is still dominating the power usage. That should be pretty typical of any large screen smartphone. Since the AMOLED is 20% more efficient than LCD it should translate to slightly better overall battery life.
Remember guys, this is also battery life with the stock kernel. I'm sure once we get a dev team working on uv/oc kernels, we'll see some significant fluctuation in the battery life, much like we saw with the N1 almost doubling battery life with the right kernel.
I have to say, my battery life has been rather mediocre at best so far. Yesterday got down to 30% in about 8 hours, and all I did was send maybe 10 text messages and make two calls. I turned off Facebook and Twitter syncing in hopes that it would help. I barely used the damn thing and it ate through the battery. It's syncing my Gmail account and two Hotmail accounts (checking every hour). I hope that I'm just not noticing using it more. In cases when I do sit down and use it heavily, battery runs down incredibly quickly. I'm rather concerned.

Not good. Battery lost 30% overnight in 9 hours with SetCPU set and it set to GSM Auto PRL... :-(

Conditioning is a myth... LiOn batteries don't need to be conditioned. The phone needs to be conditioned to properly report the battery, but it shouldn't be this bad.
How is the battery holding up for most folks?
I've been using Atrix for a few hours tonight (perhaps a bit more than normal use was on my Nexus) and I've already used 50%. Thats pretty crappy for whats proclaimed to be a large, long-lasting battery.
What should I be doing to improve battery life on this device?

It's called "New Battery Syndrome give it a week, you will settle into your normal usage pattern and you will really see fantastic battery life.
Pretty much, you have a new toy, you want to play with it as much as possible, thus you run it more than you may have used your previous devices thus effectively running the battery down faster.
Mine seems to be pretty great. Have had the display on for about two hours straight and it only drained 20%
naturefreak probably nailed it. most batteries seem to last longer after they've been discharged and recharged a few times.... on top of playing with it for probably just about the entire day..... BOUND to see less-than-expected battery life.
Can anyone tell me why the Android phones have battery life issues? Here's a scenario...my friend has an iphone, i have the fascinate. We both put our phones in our locker in the morning for work. We both come out for break and he still has well over 90% of battery life while mine is down to 70%. Why do the android phones drain so quickly. Yes I could put it in airplane mode and such but my friend doesn't have to on his Iphone.

I have tried different roms, kernels, radios, etc...and really don't notice a huge difference. I am not a heavy user of my phone and it lasts just about the day and dies. I may hit the net for few mins, do some texting, and check email from time to time. I would think the battery should last a couple days just doing this...not drain when the phone is just sitting idle. Anyway just wondering about this.
Apple has complete control over their phones. Designed in house, software developed in house, and carriers have no say in the software.
I have a feeling that has a lot to do with it.

Which ROM? Of course you are aware of the many workarounds needed to keep froyo idle drain under control? These will eventually be fixed for good.
I have even more of a complaint about the active screen-on drain. Using auto brightness indoors, its impossible to get more than 2.5-3.0 hours of screen time. (WIFI or 3g) This is way less than iphone 4's capability of around 8 hours. There are some things that help explain it like androids 100% cpu usage when scrolling or animating the UI. However, there must be massive differences in the screen power consumption. Yea, yea, SAMOLED, power draw depends heavily on displaying black vs. white etc, but my random usage never gets more than about 2.5 hours screen usage over a day. Say what you will about apple, but they optimized the hell out of battery life.
Which kernel are you using? After moderate usage for me (games, browsing web with wifi, phone calls, etc) my battery life is around 70% after 15 hours.

Guys, since screen-on time dominates battery usage, it'd be nice to note how much screen-on time you get and your brightness setting. Defining "light" usage over a number of hours could mean just about anything... very subjective.

True enough. I set my light to auto and since im usually in a room, the light setting is at lowest. When im outside, its goes to the brightest settings.

Iphone pretty much have more or less the same battery life problems.

If you use Google Navigation and constantly force rerouting to destination by taking wrong turn/path, your 100% charged phone would hit empty within 2HRs or less with the screen brightness set at minimum.
Anandtech reveiw of several real world tests shows iphone 4 smokes the fascinate bad. Not even close.

We have a more powerful phone than the iphone 4, of course our battery is shorter. (better screen, faster cpu, etc) Also seems like our antenna is the best according to the review.
Android is made to constantly sync with the internet for updates and notifications. It's just the nature of the operating system to draw a lot of power because in theory it is a more powerful and complicated system. Also keep in mind that the battery inside an iPhone is huge and it is lithium polymer which lasts longer but is more expensive. These larger lithium polymer batteries are the main reason iPads and MacBooks get good battery life as well as their less powerful chip sets.
EDIT: Oh, and also iOS doesn't use as much RAM as Android so that also factors in to the battery life being generally better.

Dunno about you but my Fascinate get's poor signal compared to other phones. Also slower network speeds.

I appreciate the more open, easy to modify nature of android over apple. But to trying and explain the 2x worse battery life on android as arising from "better" processor and screen is wishful thinking at best... blatent android fanboy propaganda at worst. We need to learn how apple has optimized things, not turn an overconfident blind eye.

It's unfortunately that the Fascinate lacks the monthly software update support similar to Apple, but using the support from this forum by the devs, I had achieved 1% power usage for every 3 hour idled = max possible 300 HRS.

Guys, there's a lot of android fanboy propaganda going on in here. I'm not against android, but don't automatically defend it like its your mama. The ifixit link below shows iphone 4 has 1420 mah battery as opposed to fascinates 1500 mah. They also both have 512 MB RAM. So that's not the issue.
Also, the Anandtech tests were done with phone on and active. So are you trying to explain android was at a disadvantage because it was "doing things in the background"? Like what? Any background process or sync service that kills your battery that bad is implemented horribly. iOS is doing the important stuff in the background too... maybe just not the ESPN or weather widget. But no one in their right mind believes those things are the problem.

Sadly, I am the opposite of an android fanboy as I would have gotten the iphone for verizon asap if I havent gotten the fascinate back at November. (Iphone on Verizon were still rumors back then). Also note that review was done in October last year. Battery life is probably much better now with cleaned roms and froyo.
If you really need to browse the web over 4 hours a day on your phone (use computer?), why not just get a larger battery or even get the iphone?
Edit: Hardware mean a lot in battery usage. After checking the iphones CPU, seems like its pretty much the same or similar to the ones of the fascinate, except slower clock speeds.

Personally I don't get any better battery life from froyo ROMS. My wife's fascinate with stock eclair usually gets as many if not more hours of screen time as I get with superclean 2.9.2 and jt's EC10 w/ slight undervolt. Sometimes I get much worse battery life when I forget to activate one of the 10 workaround hacks still needed to fix the idle drain issue.
I use 2.5 hours of screen time daily quite often and find my battery exhausted before the day is over. Maybe I'm the rare case, but I doubt it.

Verizon is pretty much known for its slower network speeds compared to AT&T. I do get pretty good signal, overall.

My battery life with imnuts undervolted kernel is much better than ones from previous EB01 kernels. I didnt find much difference between SC 2.9.2 ROM and Nameless V3 battery with the same kernel. I usually have around 75-50 percent battery life left from moderate usage. (Different from other people according to screen brightness and etc as stated in previous posts)

Under battery details, what is your display "time on" at end of your day? What is Max "time on" you ever got? Without those numbers its hard to say anything objectively.

Since its monday tomorrow, ill test the max time on. At the end of the day, or rather when I start charging it again/installing kernels or roms, time on is 14 hours and 17 minutes.
On my fascinate I unplug phone at 645 check face book and xda for about a hour on auto brightness. I then go to school and check pulse and xda many times totaling around 2 hours. The rest of the time is idle so after 2-3 hours of screen time and then 3-4 hours of idle during the school day I get home with 85-89% left im using dark revenge with imnuts undervolted kernel. Im no android fanboy I'm just posting my stats.

Suppose you had a choice, the Note as it is with 2500ma battery, or my imaginary 6000ma Note. (see attachement).
2500ma to get you through a day with moderate use, or 6000ma for a day of unworried heavy use. (or two or three with normal use)
Kind of difficult without knowing the thickness of your imaginary Note. In any case, one of the reasons the Note's size is so manageable is because of how thin it is.
Considering that I get a full day (~12hrs) out of even heavy use with my note and 35+ hours with normal use, I cant really think why anyone would want to make this have a larger battery...
Using juice defender ultimate and 15% screen brightness.
Also, I cant believe most people dont realize that those crap mugen and other extended batteries are ususally nowhere near their advertised mAh rating. http://batteryboss.org/
A total scam and making people use bigger phones for practically a placebo effect battery life increase.

I would like an official larger battery, fitting in a bit thicker case, this would make it really my dream phone.
My day lasts a bit longer than 12hrs...
I also use Juice Defender, but this just helps when you are not using the phone....
Interesting, but I use an external USB battery pack. This means the phone doesn't have any extra weight. Sure, I have to carry an extra gadget, but it's only when I need it and they make them in all sorts of sizes so it's not much of a compromise.
I think, there is certainly space for a bigger battery, considering it is almost same hardware inside on the S2 it should be plenty of room for a bigger battery. Maybe they could used a bigger battery which was thinner...anyway..if you could always have two batteries an extra battery in your pocket... the battery does not cost much..
But yeah I like if you had the choose to buy a bigger battery like on your picture, and then buy a new back case..
I am happy with the thickness as is and wouldn't want to increase it. I can always use titanium to freeze any apps that I require for little extra reach anyways.

Is that really true? I don't get the impression from the other battery life thread that the Note can last an entire working day without dying. If that's possible then great, but I would appreciate if you can provide just a bit more details about your usage. Let's put it like this, will the Galaxy Note last from 8 AM to 8 PM with my defined usage pattern listed below.
I don't need a battery that will last 2 or more days. I need a phone that will work permit hours of web browsing, 4 push e-mail accounts, and instant messaging running in the background. My iPhone 4 will easily last the entire day thank to the battery case. If it wasn't for my Mophie case, then I wouldn't be able to do it.

Right.
I had a mophie for my iPhones, a battery pack for my S2, and would like a longer lasting Note. Especially for the Note, since its size invites to keep my desktop turned off.
But the battery included with the Note doesn't survive a whole day of heavy use, just moderate use.
So you have to revert to Juice defenders, mophies and keep an eye on the battery, carry chargers etc.
It would be, at least for me, very convenient and relaxing to have a phone where you don't need to think about power management.
And I think I am not alone.
It would be easy for Samsung to make a longer lasting phone, and it would sell.

I use my note alot during my workdays. And it last my 8 hour day easy with realy heavy use.
But like today when ive been busy with my machine at work ive just had radio on the whole day and maby got around 1-2 hour of browsing, watching movie, gaming, etc. And after 8 hours my battery is on 75%.
Whats draining most of my battery is the connection with the 3g network and syncing. Using my msn app the whole day will make it drain alot more.
And the screen. If you have the screen on alot it will drain the battery realy fast with high brightness. So the lower you can have the better. The difference between 75% and 25% is huge for me.
And for those that will have more battery power i think a external batterypack is pretty good solution. Ive one for backup for times when i know im going to use my phone much during a long time without the possibility to charge.
Can have my batterypack in my pocket while i use and charge my phone.
a little too thick from the picture but would be nice if the same thickness then i'd go for the 6000ma one or just get another spare battery for the heavy use .

It's completely true, once you set the phone up right it has incredible battery life. I'm not talking setting the phone up to be crippled like I have had to do with previous android phones either, this thing just goes. After a day (9hrs) of normal use in my office (texting, surfing and using reddit is fun) My battery was at 80%
People dont set up their phones right, and/or complain about the battery life after spending all the first day with the phone downloading apps and gazing at the beautiful screen are the ones misleading saying this phone has bad battery.

I agree that using 3G will drain the battery faster, but I didn't subscribe to adapts connection and then exclusively use wifi.
Is 25% screen brightness adequate for outside viewing?

I'm not talking setting the phone up to be crippled like I have had to do with previous android phones either, this thing just goes. After a day (9hrs) of normal use in my office (texting, surfing and using reddit is fun) My battery was at 80%
People dont set up their phones right, and/or complain about the battery life after spending all the first day with the phone downloading apps and gazing at the beautiful screen are the ones misleading saying this phone has bad battery.

I totally appreciate your feedback here, but can you be specific about the settings that you're using to achieve such great battery life?
Is 15% brightness enough for outside viewing?
Also interested in what "set the phone up right" means

So long story short after getting two defective Oneplus 2's in a row from Amazon I decided to step away from Oneplus to a more stable and reliable manufacturer.
I've come from a Oneplus 1 before this and I just spent the last three days going over every review of the MXPE. The only issue I have is if I'm making the right decision considering that battery life is pretty average? I'm not going to be using it for gaming, and I wont be using 3G instead of LTE.
Won't say it's bad. The turbo charged enables amazing fast charging times and Android M has surely improved some percentage of the battery. I carry a quick charge 2 enabled car charger too so i don't feel it's bad. i think you will get used to the battery offering of the MXPE.

I had the same concerns as you have right now. The Screen of my OnePlus One got a crack, so I had to decide for myself "Do you want another one, or do you want to give an other manufacturer a try". I decided to buy the Moto X Style, which is the Pure in europe and was blown away by the display quality, the sound and the overall performance. And of course, it's as close to stock Android as it can get. The battery was a real letdown after a few hours of "testing" and recharge-cycles. Coming from a OPO, with all the possibilites to tweak and getting very high SOT, I was really really disappointed. But now, I'm getting really used to it and tweaked some settings a bit, to get more out of that battery. Now I'm on 4-5 hours of SOT and, thankfully, can go even further with the Turbo Charger. Of course, the battery could've been a bit larger (as always), but that's not a big issue in my opinion. Give it a chance, play around a little and you will see, that the overall experience prevails. With Marshmallow on the doorstep, you should get even more out of the battery, thanks to the Doze-Feature. There's a thread floating around, where a couple of users are reporting about an increasing battery life.
Thanks a lot for taking the trouble to reply guys. @doree Glad to see someone else coming from the OPO, I was used to getting 6-8 SOT with all the underclocking/volting that we used to do with AK kernel. Guess i'll do a bit more research from users using marshmallow on the X and then make a decision.
I'd say so far my battery life experience has been slightly worse than what I had with my Note 4, which is still pretty good overall. Especially since the update to MM it seems to drain less in standby. Currently have 2 hrs SOT with 38% battery left (and it last came off the charger Saturday morning). Granted, when I'm at home I always have it on Wifi which uses less battery than having it on GSM/LTE. On weekdays when I'm at work (where I don't have wifi) it drains a bit faster. And I also have a long commute which also isn't beneficial to battery life as it's constantly hopping towers during the commute.

I've read a lot different stuff concerning battery on the MXPE - with a handful of users reporting it's not great. But I must say, from my experience, battery life has been amazing. I get between 4 and 6 hours of SOT per charge. And a full charge can easily get me through 48 hours. I've never had battery life this great on a phone before. Right now I'm running stock LP, no tweaks, no nothing. I don't use WiFi, but location is set to high accuracy, and I'm always on LTE. I do have more than adequate cell signal strength which helps, and I run minimal apps. But overall I've been super impressed with battery life. :knock on wood:
Battery life is decent as long as your not playing games with full gpu usage. I get three straight hours of battery playing games. For the days I don't play games, battery life is good as oneplus one. But my old OnePlus takes the cake playing games and gpu usage with heat.. I'm on stock MM rom on mxpe and cm12 with custom kernel on 1+. Out of the box, I like mxpe hands down. Probably why I'm still stock on this phone. But once we get Custom marshmallow roms rolling, my flashiolic will kick in!

i do not play games but i do chat a lot, movies etc, i get around 5 hours on screen time.
the phone usually lasts the whole day but you have to watch your apps some apps just drain your battery.
keep in mind that you can get 40% of charge in 15 min, you gotta love this feature over the one plus
