I just order this phone online yesterday and was wanting to get a general consensus on the battery life on the phone... Coming from an HD2 and a nexus one before and a G1 before that I am tired of using smartphones with horrible battery life... I'm hoping to get battery life similar to that of the blackberry 9700 (I had that between my G1 and Nexus) which i was ver impressed with it's battery getting up to 2 days out of it sometimes... Is the battery anything close to that? or is it another fail for smartphone batteries?

The battery life on the Vibrant is right up there with the best of a powerful smartphone with a large screen. It will not be like the BB however.
I love the battery life on this phone I have only charged it twice sense last Thursday I seem to be getting 24 hours of normal use or more off this battery. Normal use for me is lots of testing and browsing the net I also been showing off avatar been using the battery for that.
I am very happy with the battery on this phone.

G1 to Vibrant
I too recently ordered this phone, and if the battery alone is better than then G1 I'll be happy. So far alot of good reviews. So hopefully a charger in my back pocket wont be necessary. I'll repost once I get it on Monday or Tuesday!
My nexus one got me about 4.5 to 5 hours heavy usage. This gets me 6 hours of heavy usage (straight internet). My n1 lasted a day of moderate usage, I noticed standby wasnt to great on it, but the vibrant I bet I could get 2 days light to moderate usage as I can already tell the Standby time kicks the arse off the n1....
Happy so far..

I once had a G1, worst battery ever! You will be pleased with this one!
I haven't been overly impressed with the battery life. I might have something installed that is sucking it dry but 8-10 hours is all I get from a charge (Of course this is during the initial "wow" period of getting a new phone).
Did my 1st battery test yesterdy. Unplugged it from the charger at 11am. Sittin at the throne browsing fb & twitter, email, xda (legs ended up falling aslep lol) Used camera & video for about 30 mins on the biggest resolution. Daughter was on youtube for about an hour in the car (Weird Al Yankovic's trapped in the drive thru on repeat smh). Surfing the web for a good 45 mins while wifey & daughter shopping. Watchng avatar. Get home at around 10pm and battery just now dopped to 50%. Best battery ive had since my bb8700! hopefully a higher mah stock size battery is in the work so my vibrant can go on beast mode!
Lol I had the 9700 no smart phone would have the battery life that thing has unless a new form of battery technology emerges that thing best point is to live

FYI just got mine and it is charging now. At the store I checked out the battery stats on the demo unit (in theory it has had a good deal of play time from customers) and it was at 32% and unplugged for 2 days and like 5 hours. That is damn GOOD. If we get custom kernels on this thing, that would be intense.
I think it's pretty bad. I only have exchange email on it and nothing else syncing. Even when I'm not using it much the battery is down to 70%. What's worse is that the battery meter will appear to be 100% even when it's downto 82%. I have to charge it after about 8 hours and keep in mind I have a 9700 that is my #1 for email and messaging via bbm. I could only imagine if this were my only phone. I'd probably need to find a charge after 6 hours. It's better than the hd2 however but I go 2 days without charging my blackberry so I hope that's not what you're looking for.
I will however any that for a super android device it probably had the best battery when compared to the evo, incredible, droid x etc

You can get a good 10 to 12 hours out of it with heavy usage, which is great for a smart phone .
In terms of fast, large screen smartphones, the battery life is slightly better than average in my opinion. It's a 1500mah pack as compared to the 1150mah pack in my G1. It's definitely not to the point where I would like it to be, but there isn't a phone on the market that can really provide me with that capability (unless some type of new battery tech comes out).
You can just go into your settings, then about phone and then battery usage and you'll see a breakdown of what your usage was since the last time it was plugged in charging. For me the screen is still dominating the power usage. That should be pretty typical of any large screen smartphone. Since the AMOLED is 20% more efficient than LCD it should translate to slightly better overall battery life.
Remember guys, this is also battery life with the stock kernel. I'm sure once we get a dev team working on uv/oc kernels, we'll see some significant fluctuation in the battery life, much like we saw with the N1 almost doubling battery life with the right kernel.
I have to say, my battery life has been rather mediocre at best so far. Yesterday got down to 30% in about 8 hours, and all I did was send maybe 10 text messages and make two calls. I turned off Facebook and Twitter syncing in hopes that it would help. I barely used the damn thing and it ate through the battery. It's syncing my Gmail account and two Hotmail accounts (checking every hour). I hope that I'm just not noticing using it more. In cases when I do sit down and use it heavily, battery runs down incredibly quickly. I'm rather concerned.
I believe Froyo is better on battery
Thanks for all the info guys... Hopefully the phone will be in tomorrow so I can form my own opinion *crosses fingers*
Not good. Battery lost 30% overnight in 9 hours with SetCPU set and it set to GSM Auto PRL... :-(

Conditioning is a myth... LiOn batteries don't need to be conditioned. The phone needs to be conditioned to properly report the battery, but it shouldn't be this bad.
I have had the ultimate in crappy battery life since day one with my Vibrant. I have tried reconditioning, task killers, freezing apps, etc., etc. Very minimal gains and, in some cases, worse battery life. These things were draining just sitting on our pockets.
Here's where it gets weird. My wife also has a Samsung Vibrant and was getting the same horrible battery life. We were both charging dead Vibrants half way through the day. Granted, we are both moderate to heavy users but I expected more. A week ago, my wife was still sitting at 80% by lunch time while I was looking at 27%. Huh? I asked her what she did and she had no idea except that she had downloaded a battery monitoring app the day before. I thought it made no sense that this could have anything to do with it so I brushed it off. Over the next few days she was still getting killer battery life throughout the day.
So....I decided to give it a shot just to be sure it wasn't that app. Well, just before bedtime, my battery was it 7%. I downloaded the battery app, plugged in my Vibrant and hit the hay. By noon the next day I was still over 80% I have no idea why but I know it's working for both of us and it has to have something to do with this app.
I'm no programmer and I certainly have no vested interested in any android apps. We just stumbled on this and it works. Would anyone out there have a clue why?
I'm not sure if posting the name of the app breaks any xda rules so I'll wait.
Ever since i've been on JK2 Froyo my battery life has been excellent. But i'm interested in hearing which app you're talking about

I agree. I just didn't want to be seen as peddling a product here.
It's called BatteryTime. It's free although, I believe there is a pay version. I didn't adjust any settings. Just installed it, charged over night and I can't believe the difference nor understand why it made such a huge difference. I unplugged 4 hours ago and have 98%. Still a mystery to me but I'm not complaining.
There's like 4 of the same app on the market x)
What is the full name?
OH and thanks, I installed it, I'll report back with results.

Just Looked again and you're right. There are 4 versions there. I'm currently using the "BatteryTime Lite" version.
The only thing that I can think of to rationalize this huge difference is that the battery percentage was being reported incorrectly before. I may have had a charge that would last all day or longer but it was displaying an accelerated discharge rate which would kill my Vibrant prematurely. For one reason or another, this app appears to have corrected that and the indicator is (I hope) reporting the correct battery life now.
Does that make any sense?

Thanks for sharing. I will give it a try.
Update:
I found this somewhat disappointing. I rebooted my phone for the first time in about a week and on boot up the indicator is displaying significant drain again. I was at 96% before boot and 56% after? I'm going to recharge to full again and see if I still enjoy the same battery life.
Now I'm really confused. Sent an email to developer.
judging by the app description and most of the comments - the app doesn't actually *do* anything. It merely reports the battery differently.
No amount of software will change how much charge a battery can hold. The only thing that's different is how it's being reported.

Indeed, and that was my point to begin with. Originally, the battery indicator reported as critically low in no more than 6 hours. Soon after, the phone would shutdown until put on the charger. With this app I am able to get through the day reporting roughly 30% at bedtime around 10pm. Of course, that is subject to change on a reboot....until fully charged again. This is the mystery.
Yeah, there is funky stuff going on with battery meters. One that is included with the Obsidian Roms is Battery Left, currently, this is showing a 50% charge and 10:19 left. Next to it is Juice Plotter which is showing 21h 11m left. According to the system, i am at 71% Power and it has been unplugged for 6 hours. From experience, I know that the 21h remaining is actually accurate and Battery Left is completely dorked.
The point being, you can't always trust the battery meter.
So I installed a monitor also to try and figure out what was killing my battery 30+% over night and I had the same reaction....I woke up to a 10% loss. I realized what is probably happening is since this app is monitoring the phone all night...whatever app is draining the battery is probably a daemon that only runs when the CPU goes really idle for a certain period of time. More than likely that app inadvertently gave you better battery life because it runs in the foreground and marks your phone as being active so whatever app was killing battery never ran.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Since day one, I have had buggy battery reporting. For instance, if I reboot the phone while it is plugged in, the reported battery level changes dramatically.
Edit: your later post supports this idea even further.
I installed this on my phone. This program does not attempt to save battery life or control anything on your phone. It does offers "Tips" to save battery life. Its main purpose is to indicate, based on your current level of charge, how long your battery should last given different circumstances - ex. idle, talk time, video time, audio time, etc... Thus the name BatteryTime.
That's all that it does. Any perception of a longer lasting battery may have been an anomaly as does happen sometimes with our phones. One day you'll seem to be getting awesome battery life (and there is likely an underlying reason which we'll never figure out, but which jives with the battery) and the next day it is back to draining quickly as normal.
There are three certainties in life: death, taxes, and posts about battery life in smart phone forums.
Anyone have the issue where they charge the phone overnight, the phone reads 100% in the morning, you unplug it and you are immediately down to 7% battery? It seems to happen to me at least twice per week. It is a terrible bug.
i dont get it you said that before the battery wasnt being read correctly so it shut off fast but now with the app it reads correctly and last you the whole day with 30% left to spare?? wouldnt that technically mean it increased battery because you got it to last all day plus some? just by making the phone read the battery correctly.
I've been one of those that have ALWAYS had terrible battery life with my Nexus. Even using SetCPU and Juicedefender, it would drain horribly, even while it was asleep. I've had three different stock HTC batteries and also used the Seido 1600 mAh, none of which made any difference.
I finally decided to try an extended battery, if for no other reason than to simply get a little more juice so maybe my battery would last longer than 6-9 hours. I figured I could always return it anyway. The only way I have ever gotten 12 hours out of a battery is to not use the device hardly at all. I went with the Mugen 3200 mAh extended battery because the Seido 3200 mAh has a battery door that does not seal the device so dust can get in. I might have tried Amzer but I didn't know they existed until after I bought the Mugen. All I know is that I am freaking THRILLED. Right now, I am sitting at 82% and I have been unplugged for 7 hours and 55 minutes!! I'm still only on my third cycle!!! Yesterday I was at 55% after 18 hours of use when I finally started a new charge cycle. I'm talking normal-to slightly heavy use...I even streamed two episodes of Seinfeld from TBS.com.
I'm posting this for those that are at their wit's end over battery life on their Nexus One. I swear I always thought the Nexus One was defective when it came to battery life. Now I know I have always had crappy batteries.
This is in no way an advertisement for Mugen..I have not been paid or given a discount, or been asked to post a glowing review...I'm just so happy about the Mugen working beyond my expectations. On top of this: I managed to break one of the pegs on the extended battery door they sent which makes it a little loose. I contacted them and before they even replied they started shipping me a new one at no charge!
Anyway, if you are having the same issues as I have been I would suggest a 3200 MAH extended battery. Either Mugen or you can try Amzer. I personally would not get the Seido based on their battery door not being sealed with the potential to let dust in, and the fact that my experience with their 1600 mAh battery was so bad. I'll personally always go with Mugen from here on out based on performance + customer service. If something goes wrong I already know they will take care of it one way or another.
Remember the drawbacks tho: slightly larger profile due to larger size battery and door, cases will not fit device any longer, and it will not fit in car dock any longer. In my case I have put a stock battery and original OEM battery cover in my car so if I want to use the car dock I can just switch batteries and back covers.
Anyway I hope this helps someone find peace with battery life. It's been driving me up the wall for almost a freaking year now. I never dreamed I could get this kind of battery life out of my Nexus One. So nice to be able to stop checking battery status all the time.
how much thicker is it?? can ya post a pic?
pics or it didnt happen.
or as they say on 4chan "tits or gtfo"
Okay here they are guys, I have two Nexus Ones so I used one of the to take the pics, unfortunately I cannot do a side by side of the two Nexus Ones because I need one to take the pics as I do not have any other camera:
first a comparison of the Mugen 3200 and the HTC stock:

now the Nexus with stock cover:
With extended cover:

mugen and stock on top of one another:
And finally, the broken peg on the extended door which I broke and Mugen are replacing for free(it's the peg on the top):
sorry the pics are so big I don't usually do this but I suppose it might help that they are big. If you want more info or pics just ask. hope this helps. Tomorrow I will post a pic showing how long the device has been unplugged with the remaining battery percentage in the status bar at the same time to prove my claims. I cannot do it now since I pulled the Mugen to take the pics. I should have done that pic first, then pulled the Mugen.
I just want folks who are in my same position to know there IS a solution, albeit with drawbacks such as not being able to use a case. I have to admit tho: I don't miss any of my cases. The Nexus with this extended back feels great in my hand. The only real drawback for me is the risk of dropping it without the case to protect it. I'm just being more careful and FINALLY enjoying great battery life.
One more thing: this is all done with display brightness at 100% 24-7. I do not like using any other brightness setting so if you choose to use an energy saving brightness setting, your results should be even better. I do however still use setCPU to downclock to 245 while screen is off, and juicedefender with various settings.

...What?
Maybe I'm the only one this has ever happened to, but whenever I check my battery usage statistics in the default Settings app, Display is listed as the absolute biggest battery hog, by a ratio of at least 2:1 compared to the next highest component on the list. I'm talking like a consistent 60% or more of my battery drain is attributed to the display, and this is even when I have my display set to automatic brightness 24-7. Even if I overclock my CPU to 1152mhz, turn on Bluetooth and GPS, and play games until my battery is almost dead, the display still racks up the highest amount of battery drain.
I hate to dismiss your claims as unscientific, but did you ever think to check your battery usage statistics? Did you ever figure that maybe you could be killing your battery life by leaving the screen on max brightness?
If I leave my phone on automatic brightness, I get a good 15 hours of battery life with moderate usage throughout the day. If I put it on max brightness, I go down to about 6 hours of battery life. Weird, huh?

Uh, yeah, no kidding the display brightness kills battery...but I do not like turning down the brightness at all, it hides that beautiful display. Besides don't you think that over the course of a YEAR I tried turning down the brightness?? Sure it saved SOME battery, but not enough to matter...maybe two hours extra which is not even close to being enough for me to justify turning it down. I have two Nexus Ones and have tried the turning down the brightness trick on both and the battery savings is minimal. No-matter how much I turn down the brightness, the display is ALWAYS listed as the biggest battery hog(unless I use the phone for calls a BUNCH that day)
and I never claimed any of this was scientific. Try a 3200 mAh battery or don't, I don't care...I'm just posting my results. To me getting 18 hours out of a battery and not even being at 50% yet is a huge difference...far better than turning down the brightness.
But again these are my results and I cannot PROMISE anyone else will see the same thing. Can't hurt to try and just return it if it doesn't work out. God knows I tried everything else over the course of a year.
If you want to fault me, I guess I shouldn't have said "there IS" a solution since I cannot promise this result for everyone or anyone but myself.
well the battery is double the capacity of the stock one, why would you be surprised that you get so much battery life? I'd be surprised if it doesn't.

Because i'm getting FAR better than double battery life. If I had gone from 9-12>>>>>18-24, I wouldn't have even made this post. But I have gone from 9-12(oftentimes 6-9 with heavy Flash use)>>>>>>>over 40 hours with normal to heavy use, even streaming Flash episodes and movies.
This is not for the normal person with pretty good Nexus battery life: this post was/is for people like me who have been frustrated by people posting that they get all kinds of great battery life from their Nexus but are never able to get it themselves. I finally got it for myself.
hell I saw a video review by some kid of this Mugen battery and he said he thought it was great but was giving it away because he already gets great battery life on his Nexus ....that pissed me off right there. I was like what the hell???
here it is:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzSm2fBOBFQ
so yeah I'm excited to finally have great battery life myself and thought I would pass it along as a possible solution for others

Your original problem wasn't that your stock battery was bad, it was that you kept your screen brightness too high to be suitable for daily usage. Proposing that the only working solution for yourself was to buy an extended battery is very misleading, because really all you had to do was turn down the display brightness, and make sure to turn off unnecessary services like GPS, Bluetooth, etc.
Furthermore, your solution, which is to outfit the Nexus One with the Mugen extended battery, costs $80, while it costs absolutely nothing to simply press a button and save your battery by turning things off and dimming the screen.
It's fine if you want to buy an extended battery so you can blast your display, but it's not the only solution, and is possibly the worst in terms of cost-effectiveness. Anybody at their wit's end about their battery life should try everything else first, and only then when they are completely dissatisfied with the way the screen looks, the lack of available services, or the lack of speed in processing, should they consider purchasing an extra battery.

dude I already told you that turning brightness all the way down only netted me about two hours more battery life using stock battery. And thanks for quoting my post about being at "wit's end"...by definition if you are at your wit's end you have already tried everything else.
is this the best you can do or are you just argumentative tonight??
I fully stand by everything I have written
and for the record, turning off GPS, turning down brightness, turning off bluetooth, etc.., is not a REAL solution, unless you consider crippling your device to keep it powered a solution, which apparently you do.
Maybe I should just turn the whole device off.... then I'll get weeks and weeks of battery life.
Thanks for taking the time to post pics. I too use my display at 100% bright and love the effect. I have a spare battery i use and a charging dock ( not oem ) and i get by doing it that way and can make it abotu 12 hours before i have to reload the other battery ( stock battery )
I had a mugen on my g1 and it was an awesome addon. However, the otterbox defender im using now wont fit a modded case, so this was the best solution for me.
i think we all are great to find solutions. Even if different ones. One thing i did find with the "fat phone" was that it felt better in my large hands and was more comfortable to type on.
Make sure to post a follow up to this with final thoughts on the battery . and thanks again for tits

No problem man, and I agree with you about us each finding our own solution. After I get done cycling it two more times(per instructions) I will post final results. I have to admit I do fear it losing capacity...almost like I can't believe these results will be maintained. My worst fear is that in a couple weeks things will start going downhill again. If it does go downhill later I will report that, too.
Good to know. When I see these threads I wonder what I'm missing with my phone, cause I get 2-3 days with my battery. I must be missing out on something cool.
I can get that with mobile data turned off, but when it's contatly syncing 3 email accounts, facebook, twitter, news, weather etc over 3G, I kind of expect it to take a hit.

well the battery is double the capacity of the stock one, why would you be surprised that you get so much battery life? I'd be surprised if it doesn't.

Except it's not.. All of these third party extended batteries are 75-80% of their stated capacity. Therefore his battery is at best 83% larger.
http://batteryboss.org/ says that Mugen 3200 are 75% of their rated capacity, therefore more like 71% more capacity than the stock battery.

To me this sounds like your stock battery is defective.. You ever tried replacing it? Try this, I bookmarked it a few days ago just in case..

I would be really interested to hear at what percentage your phone would shut down when this battery was empty.
wow nice i'd buy a mugen battery only if they didn't lie on the specs blatantly.
When was the last time that you cycled your stock HTC battery?

Yes I've replaced my stock battery with two others: stock HTC batteries and a Seido 1600mAh extended battery, all with the same results(bad battery life). I just bought them tho and didn't bother with warranty replacement. Looking back I guess I should have. Anyway I DO think it's possible they are all defective due to my having repeatedly run them down to 0% at times. The Mugen came with a warning to never ever run the battery down to zero percent. I have also read here and at other sites that running them all the way down is bad for them. I'm no battery expert so I cannot say for sure, but you make a valid point.

My stock batteries would sometimes shut down the Nexus even tho it still showed 15% of power left: I would resolve this by wiping batter stats in recovery. Yes this is a concern I have but I cannot test it as I am not willing to drain this Mugen below 20%. Right now the battery has been off charge for 21 and a half hours and I am at 59% battery life left. When I am done cycling this battery I will hopefully never have to deal with seeing that battery get to even close to 15%, 20%, etc.. because I will be going to bed and putting it on charge long before then. Also, I do not want to risk draining this battery 100% as Mugen warns not to do that. They are very explicit about this.

I must also add that I do not use Facebook or Twitter(I use launcherPro Twitter widget but sync it manually) I removed the official apps via Titanium. Thought I should mention this since you reminded me with your post. This can also contribute to my good battery life, although it never did much good with the stock batteries, but again maybe they are defective.

i've read the same here at XDA and at other sites and it's a valid concern worth mentioning. For me it doesn't matter what they rate the battery at as I'm experiencing fantastic results, but that does not mean Mugen does not fudge numbers. So again a valid concern. My advice is to try it and return it if you do not get satisfactory results. If you get horrible battery life, my opinion is that it's worth a try.

hey Paul, yes I cycled the stock and Seido as recently as last week. I've tried every trick you find in a search here at XDA or Google. I even tried that trick where you drain the battery repeatedly to reset the battery meter, then charge it back. Also tried the trick of power to 100%, letting it drop to 99%, then turning off and placing back on charge. Light turns amber again and charges for another 30 minutes or so. All this did was make it stick at 100% for some extra time(usually an hour) then it would start dropping faster than normal tho.
Just for the record guys: I understand the skepticism. I was always skeptical of battery power claims. I suppose I wouldn't believe me either if I were just reading my posts and not experiencing this.
Again: I have been off power since 2pm yesterday and I am at this moment at 58% battery power left. I did sleep for six hours and didn't use the device for that period, but still, for me, this is incredible.
EDIT: one other thing I forgot to mention I do: I am ALWAYS checking and making sure my Nexus is sleeping properly via Spare Parts. I have had apps that cause my device to not sleep properly and that hurts battery life. In fact, just yesterday I caught the latest WeatherBug Elite update causing my Nexus not to sleep for the second time since they started recently updating it. I have now returned to a previous version I backed up and am having no sleeping issues at this time. If you are having poor battery life it is something to check and keep an eye on.
Ok my gf has gotten the surround for xmas. I wanted to see others battery usage. In essrnce how long does your battery last. Hers seems to die pretty fast and was curiuos if this is common for these phones. I would give an estimate of the time but cant atm bit will tm.

Lots of complaints on the web about this. I've had mine a few days. In my experience, like all smartphones, doing a lot of stuff (like, the things you'd do with a new phone the first few days you have it) will drain it quickly. Once you settle into a normal usage pattern, you'll probably see an improvement.
The "bad battery life" complaint always seems to come from people the first few days they own a phone and are basically turning it on and fiddling with it every 30 seconds. When used like a smartphone is normally used, you shouldn't have a problem getting through a full day with it.
Oh i know bout battery life. I got the incredible. Only 12 hours charge(but i use alot).
Thanks for the response though. Just seeing if the fast battery drain is normal for this phone. She is deffinately not a heavy user besides txt. But it seems a fast battery drain is normal. So its cool
Do you use a battery charging technique called "bump charching"?
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
Battery gets conditioned as you use it. Just keep using it and in about a week you should get normal battery life. The issue is that the os handles both charging and discharging so after a few uses the battery and the os reach its peak performance
I believe it is alteady beggining to condition. She's just not used to having such battery drain. Its seems more stable in its level of drain. I also had her "bump" charge. To get a full capacitu battery. I notices these phone only have a 1250mwh batterys.

Battery life is horrid compared to the Fuze. I get anywhere from 12-14 hours before needing a recharge and I have been several charge cycles. I suggest turning off data connections when possible and using wifi.
Better Battery life
My htc surround also consumes a lot of energy. So today I entered in SETTING > CELLULAR > and turned OFF data connection. I think this is change may save a lot of energy, at least I can use this strategy whenever I dont need the data connection.
Lets see what happens
1500mAH Batteries on eBay
The stock battery that comes with the HTC Surround is only 1230mAH (or something on that order). There are several sellers on eBay who sell an aftermarket battery like this one: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130467721933, which is actually a package of three batteries and a charger for $12.99 with free shipping - perfect for me and my wife to use and always have a freshly charged spare.
These batteries should give a little better than 20% improvement in battery life over the stock one. Does anyone here have any experience with them?
Sorry for the cut and paste link - as a new user I am apparently guilty of spamming before I had even thought of it (like Minority Report).
As of now she gets between 2 to 3 days use with medium txting.
Can any body else report on their battery lifes.
Also has anyone bump charged and seen an increase in their battery charge.

Good Battery Life
I use my data connection constantly, never shutting it off. Also, I spend about half of my day in the center of a building not getting any reception, consistently going from an area with service to one without, which has the phone searching endlessly for a signal. For the first week, the battery was drained within 12 hours, but now in the second week, I have about half of the battery left when i get home, play games, check email, do EVERYTHING, and probably have about 25% when i get into bed and only plug it in as I go to sleep. On previous phones, I would have been able to do this two days in a row.
I came from a Tilt 2 and ended up getting an extended battery (making the phone HUGE), though I see no problem plugging the phone in every night. Battery life is getting better and I'm not sure who NEEDS to go multiple days without a charge. Either you make your phone huge, or you plug it every night right next to you anyway.
I am very happy with the phone, and can't wait to do more with it.
Hi,
I brought my Samsung s4 yesterday and charged it before use it, my question is i used only 1 or 2 h and stand by about 4 h, battery is now 48%.
Is others have same issue?
Is it normal ? draining battery like this ? if not should i send it back?
Please give me some advice .
Regards
Let it completely die 3 times before sending it back imo. It might just be getting poor battery readings
Had mine run GLBenchmark when I was laying down in bed. Found it still on around 7 hours later, the screen still on (after I realized I fell asleep), and was around 10%.
Again, that's with the screen on all 7 hours.
Will try completely draining but battery life is horrible for me also...
I mean I'm at 89% using Power Saver with 11 minutes screen time and only 2.5 hrs off the charger...

Reason I brought this Samsung s4 over htc because of the large batterie capacity, Samsung disappointed me ..
And thank you friends for advice , hope that drain battery totally will solve this problem. . If not I will return this unit. .

Give it a few days and then judge. :good:
Battery life its crap. Where is that big battery life improvement over gs3? All those reviewers must be shot dead! Also sound quality its *******. It looks like we got crappy snapdragon version and 3rd world countries get better octa version. Will send this ***** back.
I'm getting pretty horrible battery life as well. I'm giving it a few days do see if it corrects itself before I worry too much though. So far I have been very disappointed in the S4. Atleast the U.S. version.

Try installing this
its made by qualcomm to improve battery life =]
get about 5 hours more on battery
Qualcomm Battery Guru
-----------------------------------------------------------
I'll see what my battery life is after it settles in and then might look into it. I need to have a little more to compare it to than I have after 2 days of using it.

Yea generelly it takes about a week for batteries to settle down =] still early days
Yea you really have to let it go for a good week til it gets some battery data & breaks the battery in.
Also the screen drains the battery more than anything you could listen to music for days if you kept the screen off
I remember when I had my old droid x and that thing would run down to 20% streaming pandora for a few hours haha

NO NO NO FOR CHRIST SAKE NO. don't listen to this swine. Letting your battery completely discharge is the worst thing you can do for a lithium ion battery, significantly reducing its life
If I helped you out be sure to hit thanks

firstly, im not a swine.
secondly, its actually really beneficial to let your battery die. since android shuts off the phone before it hits absolute 0% you will not ruin the battery. now, on the other hand, if you let the phone die, set the battery on a shelf for a few months, and then try to use it again, that will probably ruin the battery.
ive let my droid 3's battery die hundreds of times and it still gets me through a full day regularly
leaving the phone on the charger at 100% actually potentially hurts battery life. but, this rarely effects battery life by much.
if you store a battery for long term storage, the suggested amount of charge to leave in the battery is 30-40%

From what I've researched putting any unnecessary strain on the battery isn't good for maintaining it long term. Meaning charging it when it hits 15 percent or so, and yes, not leaving it at a high capacity for extended amounts of time
If I helped you out be sure to hit thanks

If your battery gets below 3.0 V it's bad. But the phone will shut down when the battery gets below 3.5 V.

yea im not saying to leave the screen on when you're not using it. im just saying let it die during normal usage. maybe even by the next day.
if you somehow manage to wreck the battery in this thing though, the greatest thing is its easily removable lol
