Has anyone had luck finding an OTG cable that doesn't block the headphone jack?

I ordered this one but it hasn't arrived yet. http://www.cellphoneshop.net/microb.html

Made my own from a USB extension cable and the micro USB plug off an old charger that had died. It's fairly easy if you're OK with a soldering iron.

Mine is arriving today, and if it works I will update with the link.

I just ordered this one on ebay (China unfortunately). Not sure it will work (said "5 pin" but not "OTG"), but I'll post back here with results once it arrives.

Update: This one works

That's the key. The fifth pin is unused normally but for OTG, it's connected to ground which tells the device to go into the mode.

I have the original Motorola Xoom OTG cable. It works great with the Nexus 10 and is perfectly straight, so it doesn't block the headphone jack. Ebay has them for $10
http://compare.ebay.com/like/281034021054?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar

I guess I assumed the OP meant he wanted a "right angle" cable/adapter that wouldn't block the headphone jack.
Any straight connector isn't going to block it. Most of the angled ones do block it.

Video out via 3.5mm jack

HAS anyone picked up that nokia 3.5mm cable to rca connector on the 3.5mm jack on the vibrant (TMO GALAXY S ONLY!!) to see if video and audio gets sent out? It might only appear when you actually connect a tv... so if you have it check it out and let me know.. with rooting, flash support soon, bluetooth keyboard and mouse... i wont really need a laptop.

I ordered a 3.5mm cable to 3 rca connector last week but it's not Nokia.
I'll let you know when I get the phone.
Yes, both audio (stereo) and video is sent via the 3.5mm cable, used this to watch a movie the other day.

3.5mm to RCA TV out cable
Product ID: ECC1TX1BBEBSTD
Go to amazon, and get "6FT 3.5 mm to 3 RCA AV Camcorder Video Cable Sony JVC 6" got 3.85$
And try mixing the colors of input/output for the cable (meaing try yellow in red, etc) colors might be different

yeah i had one that the red was the video
I plugged mine into a Zune (Gen 1) AV cable that I have connected to my head unit in my car...turned on TV out and it worked like a champ.
FWIW, Avatar on the Vibrants is DRMed and it disables the TV out when you play it. You can watch the trailer just fine, but firing up the actual movie brings up a message about not being able to display it on the TV.

Nexus S Micro USB

Hey,
So I've been having a lot of problems with the micro-usb port on my Nexus S. I don't know why but it seems very loose and in order for me to charge I have to position it a certain way. The USB cable easily comes out. Is there any kind of fix for this problem?
Thanks

+1 for micro USB problem
The issue you raise with the loose microUSB majorly affects my opinion of this device & Samsung as a vendor. I am on my 3rd Nexus S, the first 2 being returned for loose microUSB issues each within a few weeks of use. Now I just put up with it on my 3rd. It isn't me, else all my other phones would have the same problem. My Nexus One still performs well, so I'm switching back to it now that I have 2.3.3 running on it sweetly. I hope Samsung is not the vendor of the next Nexus phone for this very reason.

I thought I had a problen with my usb port, but it turns out the OEM usb cables are not very good, or at least not very tight. I bought a few new ones at cable wholesale and they work perfectly and fit snuggly. You can probably find some on Amazon.
The charging port on my Nexus S is fine. I bought a GPS a couple weeks ago that takes a Micro USB as well, and when I have it connected to the computer and move it, it will disconnect. If I use my Nexus S USB cable, it's a nice fit.
So.. Maybe it's the cable? I'm also wondering if you were to ever-so-slightly bend the receptacle on the phone, would that help? Not that I would recommend such a thing, but I would probably do it.
I have a few cables from my older phones they're also very loose. I'll try some more. I don't have a receipt or anything so I can't even return or claim warranty on it. Could I maybe contact Samsung about this problem?
Funny I come across this. Just noticed mine is loose and needs placing just right in order to charge.

It's the cable. I've used the samsung cable for a while now, and just recently i used a new cable and it fits as tight as the samsung cable used to be
Coming from a N900 which the USB receptor broke apart from its board, I'd say its better to have a port which is a bit loose and allows the cable to move a little than a super tight port in which every bend of cable is passed and held solely by the soldering on the board.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Mine used to be like that too. But I think its just the cable because, now I use the stock Evo cable and it fits like a charm.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
If it's still warranty I guess you can still try your carrier to replace the phone. I use my old cables from my Nokia N85 and it fits perfectly and grips tightly. The stock cable doesn't even support development
I'm led to believe that the main reason (or at least one of them) that manufacturers switched to micro USB from mini USB is that the sprung part which wears out is on the devices' socket with mini USB, whereas its on the cable with micro.

HDMI to Vga Converter - checked - working :)

just for info:
i just checked the HDMI to VGA converter with my Iconia and it works perfect.
Manufacturer: Ligawo
Part no: HMVM01501
Where did you buy it? The only result when Googling "ligawo HMVM01501" is this thread lol.
Searched Google and first entry was:

What exact terms did you search? Also, what do you do about your audio with that cable?

The only thing you can do with audio in that situation to hear it externally is to plug speakers into your headphone port
Sorry, I meant what are you doing, as I am aware of what would need to be done I am using straight HDMI to my TV anyways and it doesn't apply, but figured I'd ask to get answers to help out others who hit up the thread.
since this tab takes HDMI micro or HDMI "D" are you guys using the Acer dock?
Looks like they'd have to be. I got a 15 foot micro HDMI to full HDMI cable for dirt cheap at monoprice.com

Micro USB cable for power and audio out

Does a micro USB cable ---> car charger power + audio 3.5mm connector exist? Coming from the iPhone I had such a cable that was convenient, only 1 connector to plug in the car, not to mention that with 2 cables on the N4 it would be very weird, power at the bottom, 3.5mm jack on top, at least they could have put them on the same side ... While my car has bluetooth, it doesn't support A2DP, my only option is audio through a cable into the AUX in.

Check out the new potato tune link. It provides a2dp in a tiny package for your car. Works great with my n4.

Unfortunately I don't think that will work for me as I still want my N4 to connect to the car's integrated bluetooth for phone calls. I don't think it would be able to connect to 2 bluetooth devices at the same time.

My nexus connects to two Bluetooth devices. My first one is a Bluetooth receiver to 3.5mm to play music wirelessly in my car, this is only for audio. I also connect to my corolla Bluetooth for phone calls only.

Ah nice! But I'm still looking for a cheaper alternative, in the form of a cable ...
I'm looking for something like this as well.
Would something like this be compatible?
Ugh, I can't post links.
If you search on ebay for:
USB Charger Data Cable & Car AUX out cable for Galaxy S2 i9100 i9220 S3 i9300
It should show up.

Spray paint. Haha. Go ahead and get one, post back and let us know how it works out. :good:
You might want to double check that the Nexus 4 has proper USB audio capabilities. The Galaxy Nexus never did, and as such, using the headphone jack or Bluetooth were the only options. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any USB audio for the Nexus 4, but then again, I've never tried or researched.

I've tried to dig around a bit, but can't seem to get any confirmation. With the cable being $6 and free shipping though, can't really go wrong. I may just get one to try it out, but not sure, weighing my options at the moment.

Bummer
I know for a fact that audio output through the usb port is supported because I've used it. I do not however have any knowledge of the build quality or pinout of that particular cable.

Tighter USB cable

As I find the USB cable provided with the charger to be too short, I ordered a cheap 2m cable. This cable is quite tight if I want to push it into the USB port of my Nex4, so I was wondering if it is safe to use; are micro USB ports very vulnerable?

Micro USB is designed in such a way the plug wears out quicker than the socket (as it is easier/cheaper to replace the cable), so a well used plug may be loser than a newer one. Can you remember how tight the original was when you first used it?
If this new cable is tighter than the original I would be inclined to say do not use it. A cheap one is probably not made to the correct specifications and if this is the case it could damage the socket in the phone.
Buy cheap buy twice.
Regards
Phil
Thanks for your reply. It certainly is tighter than the original was at first, so I guess I won't use it for my phone then. It was only three bucks and most things I bought from China wholesales/warehouses were actually quite good concerning quality, so I don't mind it.
