Wifes battery in her HTC Vivid took a plunge tonight, I had my old phone (MyTouch 4g) from when we were with Tmobile rooted with CM7 on it. Figured if I wiped the phone and did a factory reset and stuck the AT&T SIM in and manually updated the APNs it should work for a good loaner phone till the new battery for her HTC came in.
Issue I ran into was when I try to manually enter a APN, it looks to take, but the APN doesnt show up in the list once I click save. I click network operators and search for networks, it comes up with 3 choices: "T-Mobile, T-Mobile, Cingular Genesis". If I choose auto I get "Your SIM card does not allow connection to this network" (assuming its trying to use T-Mobile). If I manually choose Cingular Genesis it saids "Unable to connect to this network at this time, try again later". Need to get this phone up and running ASAP for the wife, any thoughts or suggestions?
I'm taking it that the phone is rooted and s-off if you got mobile service with att? When I insert my sisters att Sim, it let's me choose between T-Mobile or att service. Do you get that after power up or just after adding the APN?

Yes the phone is rooted and s-off. I dont get any messages when booting up. I have no APNs listed and when I manually add them it doesnt seem to save or it just doesnt display the new APN I entered.
However I think I might have found the culprit to my issues. I thought I try and unroot my phone and bring everything back to normal. Found out I cant access hboot. Tried to flash hboot via recovery, and failed. Tried to flash anything from recovery and everything fails ("Installation Aborted"). So I am back to square one. The weirdest thing about all of this is the ROM boots fine and even connects wifi just fine, but hboot is corrupt. So its bricked but its not bricked, lol.

In case the OP comes back(doubt it) or anyone wants to know, the answer is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
While unrooting you also have the option to simunlock using gfree. This would let you use the at&t sim card.

I have a MyTouch 3G w/3.5mm headphone jack that I bought from Craigslist. I just use T-Mobile ToGo Prepaid, so I had to get the phone unlocked (got unlock code through T-Mobile for free) and I used my mom's AT&T SIM Card to activate the phone.
After doing that with stock firmware, my T-Mobile SIM card still won't work in the phone. I got zero bars and with a small "X". I thought maybe T-Mobile purposely blocked non data plan SIM cards in their stock ROM, so I rooted and installed Cyanogenmod 6 RC2. Everything went fine with the rooting and upgrade, but I'm still having the same problem with my T-Mobile SIM. It always says "No Service". If I try to dial a number, I get "Mobile network not available." In Settings->Mobile network settings->Network Operators, it shows both AT&T and T-Mobile as available networks. If I touch T-Mobile, I get "Unable to connect to this network at this time. Please try again later". The strange thing, is everything works fine with an AT&T SIM card! I'm at a loss to figure this out. Are these symptoms of a blacklisted IMEI? Or do these symptoms indicate something else?
UPDATE: Talked to T-Mobile chat, IMEI is NOT blocked which is good, but it's still not working.
had the same issue...I used my friend's AT&T sim with data plan to sign-in to google. I had to enter AT&T APN settings and choose AT&T network in the menu.
Everything went well and I put my prepaid togo sim card. Got no service message and no bars. I went then to menu-settings-wireless controls-mobile neworks-network operators. It scanned networks for a minute and found t-mobile which I chose. Right after that it connected to network and I was able to make my first call from prepaid card
Unfortunately, that doesn't work on mine. When I touch T-Mobile, I get "Unable to connect to this network at this time. Please try again later."

are you sure your t-mobile sim card still work fine? i did research quite a bit this issue yesterday and many people confirmed that prepaid card works fine for them. check your network settings again and reset them to default
Yeah, it's the SIM card I use in my iPhone daily. My wife's SIM doesn't work in it either. I've reset everything to defaults, wiped everything, and even installed Cynanogenmod with no luck.

sorry to hear that...maybe you should try to call t-mobile or visit a store
I did talk to T-Mobile, but they only suggested a full wipe (hard reset) which didn't work. I guess it's probably broken, and since I bought it second-hand, not covered under warranty. It's unlocked so I guess I could try to recoup my losses by selling it to someone w/AT&T.
my phone hasnt gotten any signal for the last 2 days. i dont know what happened, the phone just says NO SERVICE. I know its not my T-Mobile account since my sim card works perfectly on another phone. this phone has never been dropped, and its only about 3-4 wees old. It started when I was eating lunch in my school's cafeteria (which is underground) when i noticed i had no service and a "g" every once in a while (theres usually atleast 2 bars and always 3g since my school is downtown). i thought nothing of it since it was underground, but my signal never came back.
what should i do? i flashed the newest radio earlier and now i dont even get the "g" anymore.
it's running virtous 0.8.1 with S-OFF. i also tried my cyanogenmod backup but there was no difference.
im going to try to return everything back to stock and see if it works. did this happen to anyone else? if so how did you fix it?
does anyone have any information that could help?
Probably a long shot, but have you tried enabling and then disabling airplane mode?
Idk if this'll work, but hey its worth a try call *#*#4636#*#* and change your settings, it should restart your network. Hopefully.

Did you test the SIM in another phone? Did you try enabling 2G networks only to determine if this is related to 3G/4G? Did you call tmo to see if there are network issues in your area?
What is your city location?

i have tried those things, when i do *#*#4636#*#*, it shows that i have a signal but it doesnt show on the status bar or that im connected to tmobile. when i go to select network in settings, it says my sim card wont allow me to connect to this network, which makes no sense since its a tmobile sim card and was working fine 2 days ago.
i live in Buffalo, NY. there is no network outage here since i tried my sim in another phone and it worked fine

All bets are off until you restore the stock rom with OTA update. Post back once you've returned it to factory because tbh, nobody from T-Mobile can or will help you either if your phone is all jacked up.

This is a network issue, its not your rom, no worries. When registration fails or network not allowed happens, tmo needs to send an engineer to the local towers to fix it up or file a trouble ticket. Is it happening within your home area, such as a 7 - 10 mile radius - or wider.
Take my word for it, you need to call

I have the same problem, and I'm in the LA area. Called, T-Mo and they said there werent any outages at the time.
Tried enable/disable airplane mode. no go.
Tried enabling only 2g mode. no go.
I don't have another phone with me to try my sim card in right now, so will try that later (T-mo rep said to use the new sim card).
I'm running stock on my g2. Will update when I get it fixed.
I'm having the same issues. went back to the stock ROM. went through several different ROMs still, the same.
Someone PLEASE help.
Sim card try another, seriously, happend to me once and a friend... went back to stock and everything.
G2 doesn't like sim cards....
Same thing happened to me. Card worked in my old G1 but not my G2...it was less than 30 days so they replaced it. This is worrying me though...I hope it's not a common issue that can just happen any time.
So i am currently in the uk (northern ireland to be exact) when i try to select a network (O2, Vodafone, tmobile) it wont register, it sees the network but it wont connect to it. Besically i am using the tab with my tmobile sim not a local sim, and the tab is still network locked to tmobile. Any ideas on how i can get it to register to a local network? I am not looking to unlock the tab (not right now at least) and run it with a local sim just trying to connect to a network just in case i need to make a call.

Do you have "WorldClass International Roaming" enabled on your plan?
Regards,
Dave
Well i am not sure,i actually checked my account and all i see is somethibg called world class international service, my wife has this option on her line but her phones does not connect either so i not sure thats not the only thing that needs to be activated. There is no way for me to select that service on my line. I also have an old phone wich was unlocked and using a prepaid sim card and it does not connect either. Could it be the sim that is not allowing to connect?

You can add that above mentioned roaming service for the time you are away. I think you can do it through the att.com website. But get ready for a shock - it's a buttload of cash for data and cell.
You're at a pc, right? If it's windows 7 and you have your cable, why not unlock it and buy a local sim? That's my solution when I'm out of the US.
As metioned on my previous post my wife has that service on her line and she still cant get it to register on the local network. Might be the sim we have, tmo, its not letting us connect. Ill have to call them when i get back to the us and find out why. I am waiting to contact tmo to get my unlock code for the tab, i am not confortable using adb.

You can follow the cut-paste steps from Roto to unlock tab without adb. Just get a terminal emulator from the market, and open it, then do the copy-paste in the emulator. It's cool!
Did you check your network settings to enable roaming?
I have also noticed that the GPS was not working either, I was driving and had GPS test running for over 5minutes and it never locked the most I got was 4 satellites but didn't lock on any of them. Mind you I was driving out in the country and clear skies no idea why GPS would not lock in northern Ireland.

When I can't get a lock, like right after flashing a new rom/kernal, I go into recovery (power +volume up), and clear the cache partition (don't factory reset!), then I use a market app called Here I Am 2 to get the first position lock in a new region or country.

Ok it seem to have worked by doing what u suggested but how can i make sure it is unlocked since i dont have a non tmo sim?
I did have roaming enabled and still nothing, i will call tmo to ask and see what they say.

The only way to know if you are unlocked is by using another carrier's sim. Just borrow one from a friendly local, or buy a prepaid sim to use for local calls.

So i seemed to have unlocked the tab using rotos method, i went out and got a att sim to try and see if it actually worked but i can not get the tab to run on the att sim. I did use the sim to unlock my tmo vibrant and it worked with no issues, so what am i doing wrong? Do i need a new modem for the sim to work? I also tried using the apn settings from the vibrant running the att sim and nothing, tried apn settings from google and nothing, what gives? Any advise? Thanks.

Hi,
I unlocked my MT4g a while back using gfree and now I am going to sell it. I'm on ATT now so I went to test out the MT4G and make sure it is still unlocked but I got weird results. I get a signal with my ATT SIM card and it makes calls fine but it won't connect to data at all. If I look in the network info under settings it says the provider is ATT and the network is EDGE.
I tried turning on/off airplane mode, tried unrooting my phone and flashing a stock image but nothing has made a difference. I also tried my friends T-Mo card and it connects to EDGE and HSPA just fine using that so I'm not sure what's up with it.
I did use EDGE on this phone in the past with my ATT sim card so I have seen it working before, can anyone think of anything that could be stopping it from connecting to the EDGE data now?

Did you check your APN settings? You may need to edit the APN setting for ATT Edge network
Hi all,
I have a Sprint Galaxy s4 mf9 stock which has been unlocked by sprint. I have confirmed this because I don't get the invalid sim message. I have arrived in India and now I am trying to use a local sim here. The sim has been inserted and I have changed the network type to gsm/utms. However, I get a circle with a line thru it where the signal is to be shown. I try to click on mobile operators and when it searches there are all the results of the local phone operators here. However, when I choose the local one I have, which is Vodafone IN, I just get a message saying unable to connect try later. If I choose automatic, same problem. I never get the signal bars. Also, I have tried this sim in another full unlocked GSM phone here and the sim works normally. Please help on what I may be missing so that I can use this phone while I'm here. Thanks so much for any help.
