Cheapest Texting Family Plan? - Networking

What is the cheapest way to get three people on a plan in the united states that has unlimited, or many texts? I don't need data for any of the phones, and basically any number of minutes above 150 will do. I know 150 is EXTREMELY low, but I just want to allow any suggestions. I don't have a preference for whether its prepaid or contract based, gsm or cdma, as long as the service is decent or good and it allows smartphones. I am looking at $60 or below, though again, all suggestions are welcome. Also, if you somehow find a plan that has data or anything else, I'm obviously not against it .
Thanks a lot guys, I know you're taking time out of your day to help me.

T-mo Family Value talk/text plan , take your pick.

Yeah I was looking at t-mobile. Though t-mobile, though cheap, still turns out to be around $70 a month after taxes. Do you know any cheaper alternatives?

I spend $180 a month for 2 phones through Verizon. I wish I could only spend $70.

If you have Chit Chat wireless, they use Sprint and it's $9.99 for like 4000 texts and a thousand minutes and $19.99 unlimited talk and text. T-Mobile has a $15 plan that you might be able to still get if you call them and it's unlimited texting and 10 cents per minute. Your only other bet is maybe a family plan postpaid with contracts. T-Mobile's Value plan might fit your needs in this regard if you add it to your main plan.
Prepaid is probably the better option though.

Wow I really like the pricing and plan of chit chat wireless, but I don't like that they use sprint. Are there any prepaid GSM carriers that have a similar plan?

Not really. But for talk and text that isn't bad to use Sprint.

I have two lines on the T-Mobile 1000 Minute Family Value Plan. The plan is $49.99 for the minutes and $10 per month for unlimited texts on all lines. You're gonna be hard pressed to find a much better deal. T-Mobile Value plans are VERY affordable. I only pay $10 per month per line for unlimited data too (slower after 2GB, but unlimited nonetheless). My total bill, including 2 lines, 1000 minutes, unlimited texts for both lines, and unlimited data for both lines, is $80. It'd be $60 total for 1000 minutes and unlimited texts with no data. I know that's more than what you're looking for, but there is not a cheaper plan out there with all those features.
If texting is all you care about and you have WiFi access all day, you could just use Google Voice and any Android, Windows Phone, or iPhone.

The only thing I don't like about the tmobile value plan is that you have to sign a two year contract for it. Is there any other option that doesn't require a contract. It doesn't need to actually be a family plan, just the cheapest option for 3 people to get individual texting and some (we don't use a lot at all) minutes.
Thanks guys.

The only way I can think of would be like I said above. I looked long and hard for my phones.

Yeah I would have to agree. For a family plan w/ contract they are easily the cheapest. But for prepaid and others, there are cheaper that don't have unlimited texting. I guess I don't need unlimited as long as there is a decent amount of texts. Btw, thanks a lot for your help, I know what I'm asking for might be impossible.

Yup. I know, it's frustrating.

Doubt you will find anything cheaper really. As the T-mo prepaid 30$ /mo (per line of course) is 100min/unlimited text/data. SO thats 90$/mo plus taxes and stuff.
You may be able to find someone's older shared plan that works for you. on a site like cellswapper or similar.
I have tried, but because of my gf need more minutes. Oye!

Yeah but now what I'm looking for is prepaid plans. Plan wise I doubt anyone can compete with tmobile.

Especially if you wish to avoid Sprint.

Great news for Loyal T-Mobile customers - Unlimited DATA PLAN for $20 a month

Just got off chat with t-mo. Below is part of the transcript. Important lines are in bold.
kcaj32: I have one more question about that account
kcaj32: the new line I added is an HD2
tmo CS: I can see that you are typing. I just want to let you know I am still here.
kcaj32: a good friend of mine also has the HD2 and he told me that you guys have a new unlimited data plan for $20 a month for that phone instead of the $30 I had to sign up for. He told me that he already switched to the $20 unlimited data for smartphones plan. Can you add that to my new line instead of the $30 plan?
kcaj32: The line I'm talking about is 916-xxx-xxxx
tmo CS: I will check to see if that feature is available for your account. It may take me a few moments.
kcaj32: ok
tmo CS: That feature is available for that line. I have changed that over for you.
kcaj32: ok thats great. I just got an sms too saying that a web plan was changed.
kcaj32: So is this available for everyone? or just some selected people?
tmo CS: It is only available to long time loyal customers.
kcaj32: ok
Got the news from : http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/HTC-HD2/New-20-Preferred-Smartphone-Unlimited-Web-for-HD2/td-p/360447
I logged into my primary account (android line) and I have the @20 a month option there too.
I havea grandfathered Family plan:
700 min
Unlimited Nights & Weekend
MyFavs on all lines (works great with Google Voice)
and now $20 data on all lines
This is the same plan as the $34.99 plan minus the $14.99 unlimited message option so if you had text before switching and are still using text, expect a huge bill at the end of the month.
The $30 plan does not include messaging at all. the plan with unlimited messaging is $35 a month. I have an older plan on my android with unlimited web and 400 messages for $25. And the messaging works for me on my Google Voice account.

Unlimited messaging? no no no....
This is the way the contract is structured for the 2yr
$30 data plan (mandatory)
$10 messaging (optional)
$59.99 for voice (cheapest one you can actually get)

When I signed up for the new line I was offered
$35 for unlimited messaging and data
OR
$30 for unlimited data only
But I guess it you want unlimited messaging as well, you should be able to add it to the $20 account for another $10. That is still $5 less than new customers.
This would be good for me. Been with T-mo for ~7 years and I have the unlimited family loyalty plan (offered before the all-unlimited plans were available) with the $20 addition for unlimited texts. If I can cut my HD2 bill from $25 to $20, I'll take it.
Oh, and, has anybody noticed there's a $5 charge for some sort of device insurance? I've yet to call T-mo and ask about it, but I tried to remove it myself from my plan and I can't. Both of those would be $10 less a month, which, out of my $250~ a month bill, is kind of welcome.

Device insurance is just that. It insures you for any lost or broken device, but I think there is a deductible involved in getting a replacement.
The new insurance rate for HD2 is $7 a mo... if you have it for $5, I'd say keep it (only if you plan on using it in the future)
And $250 a month? how many lines is that? and is it unlimited talk on all lines?
If I'm reading this right, the $30.00 Data Plan includes Web access and personal e-Mail (POP3 or IMAP). The $20.00 Data Plan is only Web access, no personal e-Mail. Niether plan has anything to do with text messages (SMS) or picture messages (MMS). Those are under some other add on plan. I got grandfathered with unlimited text messages for families for $9.99 and can see no reason to change it.
I just tested the $20 plan with a POP3 account and it worked just fine. Its just a discounted plan they are offering to their old customers.

Older customers being the key word here. I had an account with TMO for close to 5 years and now these bozos cannot even find it to allow me to SIM unlock my device...
I hate tmous more and even more every day...
I went to MyTmobile.com, signed in, clicked the manage my plan, shared services, Line specific services. The "preferred" web option was available on my primary smart phone line. I selected it and submitted, then got confirmation. I went back and repeated for my secondary smart phone line, then for my 1st family add-a-line dumb phone line. Total knocked off my bill... $25 a month (two smart phones @ $10 savings each, and one "phone first" @ $5 savings.)
Unlimited Text messaging is included in my family plan.
I hope any trade off for the "preferred" web plan is worth the money. Tmobile USA's normal "Unlimited" is 5Gb a month at full speed, then throttled down above that (no extra fees for being excessive users.) I hope preferred "unlimited" still is.
With the phone first plans, a semi-smart phone as an add-a-line with unlimited web comes out to just $10 extra a month ($5 for add-a-line, $5 for unlimited web). Tmobile considers two semi "internet capable" proprietary OS touchscreen phones as "phone first"... Samsung Highlight and Tmo Tap. Its a shame neither can be ROM flashed to a better OS.
The also have the Nokia Nuron with Symbian with a $10 data plan. Unfortunately the Nuron does not have Wifi. and has a very small screen. I looked at it in costco and it seemed pretty small although it was 3.2". Was looking for my Wife.

Been with TMo for years (I think since they existed.....8-9 years), and I checked and I have that option as well. Currently I have the Unlimited Data + Texts for $35.
I'm thinking of switching to the $20 Preferred Data Plan and the $10 1000 texts for a total of $30 ($5 Savings).
Are we sure that there is no difference between the data plans?
"Preferred Smartphone Unlimited Web Only
Smartphone Unlimited Web Only"
"T-Mobile Smartphone Unlimited Web
For people who love having the Web and e-mail at their fingertips. Includes unlimited Web access and unlimited personal e-mail."
Always looking for some monthly savings
nothing beats the 5.99 unlimited Tzones..
Just got off the phone with a CC rep and as most here have stated it is the same as the $25 web plan just cheaper
And for the Nokia Nuron....it is one of a couple of phones that get the $10 plans for what ever reason.....maybe because the download speeds are super slow My GF had one and the speeds on it sucked and the text messaging was pretty buggy....she ended up returning it.
Thanks for the heads up. I can also confirm that the CC rep told me there are no differences in speeds.
Just switched to the $20 Preferred Unlimited Data and $5 for 300 Texts (is it me or was there a 500 texts for $5......). Saves $10 a month, hopefully I won't go over the 300 texts.....500 would be perfect.

4 lines. the family plan is 90,unlimited
talk only on 2 lines, each additional line is 40, 20 for unlimited text on all lines. 20 unlimited web on my line and 30 unlimited blackberry web on another. plus the 5 insurance. 245.
I'm thinking of switching to the even more plus, i lose subsidy for upgrades, but it's cheaper, 140 2 lined unlimited text and web and calls, plus 30 for two more lined unlimited calls and text. 200, i do mind losing the subsidies, so maybe I'll get new phones subsidized and then switch (you're still bound by the contract, but It's less month to month)
oh and i got offered the 20 plan online, turns out i had android web and it was incompatible, so i was forced to chose the cheaper plan, no complaints, i hope it fixes the slow connection i have though (100 kbps down on 3g)
Wonder if it is really for long term customers or Tmo is just hooking up us HD2 owners

$10 web2go doesn't work on android (plz correct me if I'm wrong I tried everything to get it to work) I Cannot Afford the 30 dollar data plan for android.
I read on some forums there is a perffered internet plan that is 20 dollars and available to customers of over 2 years. When I called up t-mobile they stated there was no such thing and its only 30 bucks... is it possible to get it cheaper the 30 bucks or get web2go on my vibrant I really need this even if it isn't an unlimited plan.
Sorry if I am repeating this thread I don't know is I am posting in the correct category
SOLVED!!!
OH YES I JUST GOT THE 20$ PLAN!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS FORUM I DID IT EXACTLY LIKE THE SECOND POST SAID.
1.call 611 and say cancel services to the automated bot.
2.give the info needed to the bot
3.when the representetive will pick up tell them that you just got a new plan with the phone you have (i said vibrant) and tell them you are considering canceling your account because its way to expensive for you to pay 30$ even though i like the vibrant. Make excuses if they keep asking you questions but most likely the RP will say that they could offer you a discount and let you have it for 20$. AMAZING!

When you call, go to the retentions department, say "cancel account" on the automated system it will take you directly there, tell, don't ask the rep that you want the $20 web plan. If you're lucky he will be nice enough to give it to you based on your loyalty as a customer, if he doesn't give it to you try a different one.
I got the $20 plan for both my lines on the first try.
good luck

Call T-Mo (611) and ask for retentions or say you want to cancel your plan (which will take you to retentions). They are the only ones that can get you the $20 data plan (from what I've read).
Speak to someone in the contracts dept, not tech support. They will hook you right up.

I have 2 lines under the old android unlimited data/unlimited text for $34.99. Last time I talked to retention last week they said that was still the cheapest way to go .
My wife and I have been T-Mo customers for 8 years. I have a Vibrant, she has a Nexus. We called a couple of months ago, just to speak with retention about our data plans. They got us on the preferred data plan at $20 a line, unlimited family messaging for $9.99 and 600 shared anytime minutes. All total, $92.00. We obviously still get the free nights and weekends and mobile to mobile. $92.00 is not bad for two android phones with unlimited messaging and data. Most of the people we call are on T-Mo as well, so that works out too!
Call and talk to retention, no one in a retail store can do it for you.
I've been a T-Mo customer for 8 years, too. A couple years ago I was using their [email protected] service. They discontinued that service but called me up and offered me unlimited voice at the loyal customer rate instead. Last month I bought the Vibrant and they gave me the loyal customer data plan without even asking. I'm paying $75/mo for unlimited voice, unlimited data and 400 free TMs. I am a happy camper, and it has kept me from going to AT&T for an iPhone.
I wish I would have been able to get a better plan, instead I moved to EM+ and can't go back... =(

I'm paying $190 with taxes for 2 android phones with unlimted data, text and minutes.
I'm paying $65 a month for 1000 minutes, unlimited data, and no TMs ($40 for the 1000 minutes plan, +$25 for the unlimited android data add-on). Works fine for me, and I've got a GVoice number, with the GVoice app on my phone, so I can actually receive TMs through that number with the app.
Not sure when but TMobile will be rolling out new options and doing away with flex pay. Will still have same features SS flex pay but also offer cheaper data plans like at&t. Fight now you're stuck with $30 because you wanted the best phone. You want a cheaper data plan downgrade your phone or get rid of text to save and have your friends IM you or email.

Our "after-tax" total is about $106 for 2 android phones with unlimited data, unlimited texts and 600 shared minutes, free nights and weekends, free mobile to mobile. We don't call a whole lot of numbers that aren't T-Mo, so we don't ever use all the minutes.
Our "Family-time" text package is grandfathered in from back in the day. Unlimited text, pic and voice messaging for ALL lines on our account - $9.99 total, regardless of number of lines.

nice, in all reality we don't use that many minutes, her more than I as I work from home and text all day. I have a land line and a company line I can also use also to make calls out. I need to double check but I thin I pay like $79 for unlimited minutes so the next plan down only saves me like $5 or $10 a month if I remember correctly.

Is that $65 after taxes? Also, is ti contract or not? I had just Unlimited Data last month hoping I could get SIP/VOIP working on my phone but I eventually decided to get minutes so I can use for work. They gave me 500 minutes and I was told my bill would be $65. If I can get a little more cheaper I would be happy.

You guys know T-Mobile employees troll all these popular forums. I'm not talking about store employees who are members here. I'm talking about executive services, people high up at T-mo troll the forums, especially during new phone release dates, and I'm sure the more people advertise how to call and "pretend" to cancel, is going to eventually hurt the real loyal customer who is honestly considering to cancel.
I've actually had a rep I started conversation with on the phone, admit they visit these forums and read what people write. Just saying, if we want loyalty to continue for real loyal customers. Those who pay on time every month, for years, then we shouldn't be posting how to trick T-Mo. At the end it hurts people who have been with T-Mo for several years as loyal faithful customers.

10 dollar 4g?

Just saw a commercial for 10 dollar 4g plan. Anyone know what that plan is? Is it a lower data cap or is it just a "free" sample kind of deal?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Its going to replace the current 15 dollar plan its 200 mb if you go over it .10 per mb with a 30 dollar overage cap. So if you used a ton you would end up paying 40 in total. So I would start with the unlimated for one month see how much you use. If under 200 mb just do the 10 I don't think its out yet though.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
its out but with 3000 min plan
On t-mobile, new customers receive the 10 dollar 200mb option. Existing customers must switch to the promo version if the even more plans (even if they are on an even more plan currently). This promo plan is the only version available to new customers.
For existing customers I call the 200mb feature the 15 dollar web because that is how much it costs if you don't change to the newer plans.
Switching to the 10 dollar web plans does extend the contract on ALL lines on your account but doesn't affect your upgrade dates.
The best plan in my opinion is the 4g do more 3000 min promo plan for 149.99. 3k minutes, unlimited text for the family, and unlimited 4g web for 2 phones. Additional lines are only 5 bucks to share minutes. I've been off since sunday but I'm pretty sure this 3k plan is still available. On this 3k promo plan unlimited 4g web is only 20 dollars per line including additional lines.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Also.. This 3k plan does require at least 2 phones to have unlimited data.
Also keep on mind.. This isn't very obvious to even sales reps.. But smartphones like the g2 and the mytouch 4g are considered premium smartphones so they do require the unlimited web in order to receive their rebates. The tag says data plan required but t-mobile's internal says that the unlimited feature is required for rebates. This can be very confusing because you are given the option of the 200mb feature on all phones.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I called today and switched two of our five lines to the $10/mo 200mb data plan- my G2 and my boyfriend's Vibrant. We don't live in or near a 4G area (or 3G or Edge for that matter) and since we're mostly on wifi, and don't use much cell data, it made sense and saves us $40/mo. If we do go over, its capped $-wise at what we were paying, so no big deal.
Our contract was not extended, and the rep was very helpful.

we have 5 lines, 750 min even more plan, $15 unlim family texting, unlim data on one line, 200mb on three lines (now) and no data on the last line, family allowances and insurance on three lines.
I plead the case that we don't get 4G or even 3G where we live and use wifi most of the time, which the rep could see from past billing cycles, and it was rather unfair for us to have to pay for something that TMo cannot provide, and that we do not/can not use.
she made the change retro to the beginning of this current billing cycle and was very nice about it.
like I explained before, we have been paying for unlim data on the two lines that were changed, so saving money is a bonus. if we go over, it won't be by much, so no matter what, the bill will always be less than it used to be.
These new plans are to get you off the unl everything and will end up costing you more in the end. Keep up with the two giants and you will see what tmo is doing. Its all compitition. Plans like these are the reason why at&t sit where they are. Number 1 wireless carrier. Vzw has been on at&t's ass for awhile now and with the iphone coming in? Customer base may increase significantly. Give tmo some cool phone and better data and they too can have a good customer base.

Add a line is still 5 on the 3k plan. I have a feeling many of you work for magenta, and if this is true you should know your price plans better.

Did you lock yourself into a 2 year contract? If so, you can get it, but it'll cost you more.

Did you sign a two yr contract? If so, you still have one more year left. You may be able to get a partial discount (partial subsidized price) on the SGS-2, but that means you are renewing an additional two years on top of the remaining one year. That is 3 yrs.
I sure as hell wouldn't commit to T-Mobile for 3 yrs just to get that phone.
You can buy it at full retail and wouldn't have to sign a contract, but that would cost you obviously more for the phone.
Why don't you check out ebay for the Sensation 4G, you can pick one up for 300 or so without contract. Or wait a few months and SGS-2 will be on ebay for cheap.
Just don't sign another contract, 3 yrs more with T-Mobile is insane, especially since nobody knows what is going to happen to them.
Another option is to cancel your T-Mobile account. Pay the 200 ETF. Then go to At&t and get the SGS-2 for 149.99 (if you shop around).
This comes out to 349.99.
Also, contrary to popular belief, At&t is actually cheaper than T-mobile. If you compare the current contract plans on At&t to the current contract plans on T-Mobile, you get more for your money on At&t (especially if you are on a Family plan). However, if you are on a grandfathered T-Mobile plan then that might not be the case.
Anyways, deffinately don't sign another T-mobile contract, that is crazy right now.
Edit:
According to Archie53 they don't add an additional 2 yrs on your remaining 1 yr, they just renew from that point on for 2 more yrs.
Thanks for the clarification.
They don't add time onto existing contracts, they just restart the two years. The partial discount is pretty much not worth signing a two year contract , your almost better off just paying full price.

What claims?
The part where I said current At&t contract plans (especially family plans) are cheaper than current contract T-Mobile plans?
Just go to At&t and T-mobile compare the plans side by side. At&t comes out cheaper. At&t gives you unlimited calling to Any mobile on any carrier as long as you get family text messaging. I'm on a grandfathered plan with T-mobile, and if I switch to At&t I would save about 30 bucks a month and get unlimited mobile to mobile on any carrier. The only thing I would lose is my 5gb data cap, compared to 2Gb on At&t. That's ok though, I don't even use the full 2GB, I'm always on wifi wherever I go.

I just did this...tmobile unlimited min/text/5 gb of data is 75 a month...att unlimited min/text/2 gb of data is 95 a month. Where the hell did you learn math?
The family plan for two lines is 160 on tmobile with 5 gb of data a piece..170 on att with 2 gb of data a piece also..tmobile wins again.

First off, you don't need to be rude. I'm pretty sure I'm more educated than you are.
Secondly, why would I get unlimited talk on At&t when At&t offers rollover and free mobile to mobile on any carrier with the purchase of famly text messaging for 30 bucks or individual for 20 bucks.
With At&t rollover and unlimited mobile to mobile TO ANY CARRIER, you can get one of the cheaper At&t minute plans and save a lot of money, yet still basically have unlimited talk. THAT WAS MY POINT.

•Included with Family Messaging Unlimited ($30/month) or Messaging Unlimited ($20/month) for individual
•Available on $69.99 and higher FamilyTalk® rate plans and $39.99 and higher Nation individual rate plans"

Yeah you're right bout the rude part. Sorry.
Everyone's family is different and needs for phones are different...your way is fine as long as your family won't call landlines. Mine tends to talk to a variety of connections(mobile and landline/google voice*) So an unlimited makes way more sense for me and mine. With the unlimited Tmobile beats At&t hands down.

Apology accepted.
Ya, both carriers have their pros and cons, and you're right sometimes one is cheaper than the other depending on one's needs.
I knew I forgot something...i put the * on google voice up there because if you're calling to and from GV alot it is considered landlines. Another reason I need the actual unlimited as everyone now has my GV number. Unless you're calling a sprint GV number, then it's a mobile...i think.

Whether he re-ups his T-Mobile contract, or gets a new contract with ATT, he'll be in the same boat. Except he'll probably be paying less on T-Mobile.
If the merger goes through, ATT has to honor all existing customer contracts. If they raise your rates, you get out ETF-free.
Plus since the source just.dropped for the sgs2 it will be rooted soon so that's even better

Does the DVP work on Prepaid?

So I just purchased and am awaiting a DVP BNIB for $200 which I think is a decent deal. The more I read, the more worried I become. I am familar with WP7 I have owned an HD7 and currently have an Arrive, but my concern is that I read in a few places that the DVP doesn't support T-Mo prepaid. Can anyone please confirm or deny this??? Thank you so much.
Denied...
I'm using mine on Simple Mobile which uses t-mo's network and it runs fine. The only unsupported items are call forwarding and visual voicemail which wouldn't be supported on t-mo prepaid anyway.
Just assume from now on that all phones that support the network you are trying to use the prepaid service on, support the said prepaid service. so any TMO phone that is certified as one, will support TMO's prepaid service.
Thank you both.
Yes! Using DVP on T-mobile's $30 walmart plan, 100 minutes, unlimited text and unlimited web (5GB at 4G speed).
Just activated my DVP on Simple Mobile today. Everything looks fine so far. One nice little bonus I didn't expect is that there are no taxes or fees on the $40 Unlimited plan.

Can you run a speed test? I was contemplating switching to that plan but it is a well known fact that Simple Mobile throttles the speed on that plan to 119 kbps. You can force the phone to edge to get a little faster speed. I stuck with the $60 plan because of that. My wife has the AT&T HTC Fuze. Since it can only use edge on T-mo's network, I got her the $40 plan.
Also, you can go to online stores like callingmart that have discount promos every month and reduce it even further. I have 2 lines ($60 plan and $40 plan) and with 5% off, I pay only $95 every month!

Is that really a good deal? T-Mo is offering $49.99 for unlimited talk+text+data (2GB). Or you can go even lower with monthly plans depending on your needs for texting etc.

That is an excellent deal considering I live in New York City. NYC has the the third highest cell phone taxes in the country at almost 25%. If you were to get any postpaid plans, I would have to add 25% on top of it. So, 2 lines at $49.99 would cost me approximately $125 a month. At $30/month, I'm saving $720 just in taxes over a two year contract period!!

I switched from the $40 Simple Mobile plan since the 3G is quite slow for streaming music escpecially now that Mango offers streaming in the background. Viewing pictures on facebook also takes a while. They also don't support subscription to machine-generated text messages. With the $30 T-Mo plan, you get 4G speeds for up to 5GB. Sweet!
After a week on the Simple Mobile $40 3G plan, I have to say it's not such a great deal. The Voice and texting are fine but the data is pretty bad. It is capped at Edge speeds and I have problems connecting even when I show 5 full bars and the 3G icon. Fortunately, I average less than 100 minutes of calls per month, so the $30 "Walmart" plan on T-Mo pre-paid should be perfect for me. I will be signing up for that after my 30 days with Simple expire in December.

I am definitely planning on trying that T-Mo plan as soon as my 30 days are up with Simple. Fortunately, I never come close to using 100 talk minutes a month, so it really sounds like the perfect plan for me. The only thing that has me a bit confused are the billing/payment options. I would prefer to keep a credit card on file with them and have them take the $30 out automatically every month. From what I read about the plan on the howard forums, most people seem to use those pre-paid cards to re-up every month. That sounds like it would be a bit of a hassle to do it that way.

Actually, per my mileage, the prepaid card didn't work for me. So, I had to use a debit card. It works. Set up is easy.
