To.get it to recovery power it off then hold vol down and power. You should see a menu with 3 android note skate boarding. Wait for it to pass the SD card messages and then use the vol keys to navigate to recovery and tap power to select.

I turn My sgs off. But when i hold Power + Volume up + Menu, It just boots phone normally. It will not go into recovery mode no matter how long i hold them for.
Any suggestions?
If you have download mode (same but with volume down key) then recovery mode should also work. For me to get to recovery I release all buttons once the galaxy s screen shows then recovery screen pops up about 5 secs later.
If you dont have download mode then check this out. I have used the Odin method numerous times without issue but take your time reading the instructions.

This should fix it.
EDIT: just noticed you mentioned menu key....its actually the home key you need to press instead.

I always have trouble getting to recovery mode using the power + up + home method, the easiest method to get into recovery mode seems to be using the extended power menu or quick boot apps.

already done it but im still at somesort of stock recovery what should i do next?
When you say stock recovery do you mean the bootloader, if so toggle the vol button until it says recovery then hit the power button, hopefully Twrp will boot, if not try one of the tools in the dev,s section to do a full stock recovery from your pc

Alright, so I'm using CM Recovery Touch and I accidentally hit sideload when I intended to hit load from sdcard. Now there's nothing I can do to get off of this screen! Can anybody help? Thank you.
Press and hold power button and volume down if you want to go back to recovery or just hold power till it reboots

Yeah, thank you. I figured it out after a while.
I have a brand new nexus 7 and I haven't unlocked the bootloader or rooted. I'm trying to sideload the kitkat update but whenever I try to boot into recovery it brings up the no command screen in recovery . From there I tried holding power and volume up and it just boots into the same screen that says no command. Is an unlocked bootloader required to sideload or is there something I'm doing wrong?
Did you try holding the power button and just tap the volume up button instead of holding it? Should work, it's what I did and it got me into recovery to finish the side load

Press a key (Vol+ or power or.. ) and you should see some options to choose. I was hanging at the same point when I was rooting my device...
