Speakerphone echo? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Getting complaints of echoing from people I'm talking to. Trying to figure out if it's rom related (cm 10.1 nightlies) or not.

Quick bump before I give up. Really no one has had people complain of echo when you've got them on speakerphone?

My speaker just cuts in and out when I use it

Caller cant hear me solution (Voodoo)

called myself through my house phone and played with voodoo settings till i heard a difference. well, this worked for me:
in voodoo, scroll down till you see "Digital/Analog Conversion Quality Settings"
uncheck "Hi-fi record" (ADC 128x oversampling Maximize recordings quality)
rom being used: cynogenMod beta1
Voodoo Sound Plus 3.1.1
Upgrade to beta 2
The only setting that causes mic issues is the mic one the options are normal, balanced and loud something to that effect change it to loud and callers will hear you. The hifi record does not play a factor.
Holy double thread Batman!
shucks
the environments change the input volume and i think the hi-fi record turns on a gate. cause turning off hi-fi made a big difference to me cause people dont have hard time hearing me anymore and i dont have to touch anything. and i've always thought recording has to do with mic inputs. oh well....

They need to incorporate it into Cm7. Lemme rephrase that, they SHOULD incorporate it, I would really appreciate it
EDIT: fix put into RC1-update 1!

I don't think so, I'm still on beta 1, but the voodoo toggle was the fix for me to get the mic to work properly, so I know they didn't fix it on Beta 1.

Well rc1 update one has been out for a litttle bit the change log says they boosted the mic

Beta 2 did not fix this issue in regards to what he's talking about, and without testing it yourself you shouldn't tell him he's wrong. I'm always told people can not hear me and I just did the same test with my home phone. With HiFi record enabled I could not be heard unless I put my mouth directly over the mic and talked very loud. With HiFi record disabled I could then be heard from a normal distance at which with it enabled I could not be heard at all from the same distance as if I were not even speaking.
Thank you for this. I'll test more later when my girl calls me and see if she can actually hear me ok or not with this disabled.

Beta 2 fixes this with the default kernel and no voodoo... most things I say are fixed are with the stock kernel...

Some of us use voodoo sound with the stock kernel through voodoo sound plus. That's where it gets confusing. I'm not saying the issue is cm9. It's definitely this setting and/or voodoo sound in general. I'm just saying this is good to know for any of us that use stock cm9 but also inject the voodoo driver via the app.

This totally works i tried it on 3 different cell phones my moms epic touch my dads zte fury and my younger brothers transform ultra i think the way it makes things higher quality is it filters out more interference ergo wind static etc etc but in doing so the volume it can record at is severly lowered.

Nexus 4 system sound volume issues.

Android noob here coming from the iOS world and loving my N4 stock. Anyone have a workaround for the low volume on voice calls? I notice when using GrooveIP with my GV account, volume issue is non existent. At first I thought it was a straight talk issue but realized it's happening on most features including music and notifications. Other than this, Iove my Nexus 4!!
TIA

I am not really sure what you mean. The Nexus 4 is the loudest phone I have ever had. Did you turn up the volume/enable speakerphone?
Really? I find it very low especially during conversations. I have volume settings all max level. On VoIP it sounds much louder which tells me it's a software issue. SMH

Nexus 4 Ear Buds (Score x/10)

Anyone else have the nexus ear buds? I have them. I'm not sure how happy I am with them. They seem good but I'm not sure how they sound compared to my skull candy ear buds. Let me know on a scale of 1-10 how you like the ear buds and how they perform against your best pair if you have any others. My main complaint is the base on the headphones and that they don't seem as loud. Seems weak to me. I give them a 6 1/2/10

We don't need another thread about this.

Hi, various thoughts and discussion on the headphones can be found below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219669
Personally, I'd give them a passing grade ; 8/10

[Q] Random glitchy/clicking sound from speaker, when pressing screen (no pattern)

Hi there
First some specs:
Nexus 4
PA3.99-RC2
Franco.kernel.plus 188.
SuperSU root
Latest gapps
I have tried asking in the the Paranoid Android Google+ discussion forum, but no useful answers yet. This is x-posted in general Q&A forum as well, to see if other devices also have this.
The problem:
When I use my phone I get random glitchy/clicky sounds from the top speaker (I'm pretty sure it's from there). It's a very quick glitch/click, and then it stops. It doesn't happen in a specific pattern, meaning that it's not like it comes whenever I press the back button or anything - it just happens sometimes. Sometimes more often than other. When I try to recreate the sounds (tapping a lot of menus, settings, apps, etc.) I find it difficult to recreate. It is REALLY random, perhaps mostly after I haven't used my phone for a while, and I turn it on!
Have anyone tried this, and knows a solution? It didn't annoy me at first, but now it really does.
As far as I remember it started when I upgraded to PA3.99. However, I have tried RC-1 and RC-2 and I have also tried stock kernel, Hellscore kernel and different Franco-kernel versions.

Just like you, I've noticed the noise but it sounds to me like its coming from the loud speaker. It doesn't happen that often and its hard to reproduce the sound (like you said). By the way I'm complete stock/unrooted with a lock bootloader. Hopefully its a software glitch and not hardware since the speakers don't sound busted.

Okay, it sounds like it could be the same thing. I don't think my speakers are busted either.. I guess the sound would come more often if that was the case.
It could be from the loud speaker.. Because it's so hard to reproduce, I can't really test it.
I would just love for it to go away.
Unfortunately I've never tested this phone with any other ROM other than 4.3 (Jwr66y) so I don't even know if it's a software glitch. Hopefully it is though.

Since we're experiencing what seems to be the same thing; I would think it most likely is a software thing. But I don't understand why - and why there isn't more people reporting this.....which makes me think I've done something wrong, hence the cry for help
Maybe some people don't notice it. It's not that much noticeable. The first few times I heard it I thought I was hearing things.

Yeah, maybe. I also only notice when there's not any other noise around me. Like when I'm laying in bed, etc.
Lmao. That's exactly when I hear it (laying in bed).

Yes I have it on my N4!! I also had it with my i9300 and my Nexus S. Very subtle. Glad I'm not the only one

I'm also having the same thing with Paranoid 3.98. Didn't have it on my Nexus S though.

Alternator whine off aux in.

Man..I was shocked. Never had the whine using my note 2 so never imagined alternator whine with the N4. Anyone else? I know a lot use Bluetooth and I'm wishing it was a option
My Droid 4 would do this. I never found a fix for it.
