Screen Garbled, random noises. dead? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Had a bizzare problem with my tablet. Got it a while back it was on charge the other day and when i came in that night to look at it, the screen was "on" but nothing on the screen, just backlit. The charger was for the nexus 4 I have so I thought that maybe it was a proprietary charger issue. This can be an issue sometimes with certain devices (HP Touchpad would only charge properly on it's own charger).
I unplugged it and it powered off. So i held in the power button and nothing happened. I guessed the battery was not charged for the reason I put above.
Anyway last night I took it into the front room and plugged it in to the Nexus 7 wall charger there, held in the power button, nothing. Unplugged it, nothing. I guessed there was 0 battery so i left it for a while, then I noticed out of the corner of my eye the lockscreen came on! Wahoo i thought, i went to pick it up and the screen went crazy, like an old Commodor Loader or Spectrum, and it made some weird garbled sounds. Then nothing. I left it and 10 minutes later it did it again, so i unplugged it and left it on the side.
Anyone else had the issue? Is there a known issue? I unlocked the bootloader but lost root after the recent update. I am anxious about RMAing it. Right now the device is at home so I can't plug it in, but will try tonight to put it in the USB and see if I can recover it somehow....
No Mods just unlocked bootloader.

[Q] HELP: Battery Problem? Can't Even Turn On!

Hi guys, my HD2's battery hasn't been impressive since I first purchased it, especially after using Android on it, but it seems everyone else's complaining about it so maybe it was just the inherent problem with the phone.
Then comes tonight, I didn't have a chance to charge the battery and it turned itself off. But when I got home and had the charger plugged in, NOTHING HAPPEND, not even the LED light. Nothing happened when I tried to hold the Turn On button, then try holding the Volume up button and the start button to do a hard reset but no luck, NO response at all! I kept it plugged in still nothing happened, though the bottom part of the phone at the back turned warm, otherwise, it's like DEAD....
I think the only cause of it is the battery dies. (I didn't drop the phone prior to the problem.) Any suggestions? Would T-Mobile(U.S.A.) cover a replacement, I had the phone less than 1 year? HELP PLZ guys!
take battery out, plug usb in (wall charger, not pc), and only then reinsert battery.
this prevents the phone trying to turn on when you plug into the wall.
don't be surprised the light doesn't come on.
leave for a few hours.

[Q] Screen looks like I destroyed it somehow

I am freaking out. I just plugged it in to charge it (not the charger that it came with) and it was only plugged in for a few minutes. I unplugged it and turned it on and now my screen looks like a crappy television from the '60s. It's all lined and flickering and horrible! What did I do! Did I destroy it??
EDIT: Turns out it was the charger that it came with, but I had plugged the micro-usb cable into an extension cable to increase the length. Could this have been the issue somehow?
I had this happen day 1 using the provided cable and charger. I turned it off and back on and never saw the problem again.
I had this same thing happen with my N7 recently.
I was reading something, the power hit 4% and the thing shut down. I tried turning it back on, but it refused. I plugged it in to charge it and tried to turn it on again and after a couple of tries, it came on. I must have knocked the power cable loose, but the screen went all white and black stripes, just like what you are describing. It took a bit to shut it off, but it eventually did. I plugged it back in, waited for about a minute, and the charging icon popped up. Unfortunately, the screen looked like crap. It looked like huge odd patterns were burnt into the screen. I was really worried. I turned the screen off again, tried to take my mind off of the situation for a while (maybe an hour or so) and came back and everything was normal. I have no idea what happened, but give it some time before you freak out; it may be fine.
You're right, it does seem better now. I plugged it in to charge from the standard charger like it's supposed to and turned it off for half an hour. Seems OK now. Thanks for the support, fellas. Why on earth does it do that? Should I know more about this in case it could be permanent at some point?

Nexus 7 screen flickers and does not turn on after battery ran out after water damage

About 3 weeks ago I noticed my nexus 7 charger or charger port inside the nexus (more likely) was faulty and I was having to physically put fore on the charger to bend it downward to charge.
This was fine, however since then about 4-5 days ago I dropped my nexus 7 into a shallow sink of water. (about 10-15cm). I removed it immediately and dried it, disconnected the battery and left it in rice for 1.5 days. I then reconnected the battery and noticed it automatically tuned on. There was a small smudge on the top of the screen, and the power button on the side did not function.
I put it back in rice for another 2 days and then found the smudge had gone, but the power button still didn't work. I opened the back cover of my nexus 7 and noticed the track joining the volume up and power contacts was slightly broken, possibly from water. I was and still am likely to try to fix this by applying some conductive paint over the affected area. It is worth noting that I used it for several hours, and the device worked fine aside from the power button and charged normally
Because the power button didn't work I did not want to get my nexus to dim the screen and lock itself, so I turned off sleeping in the settings. However, this then depleted the battery and it must have turned off when I left it. I plugged it in and because I'm guessing the nexus somehow detected the power button wasn't working, turned itself on as it had done before, however it then shut down because there was no charge, and then turned on again, and then turned off... (only when plugged in)
I realised this would be happening all night, so I opened the boot menu by pressing the volume down key during the nexus 7 starting up, and left it in that screen overnight hoping it would let it charge. However in the morning I realised I couldn't exit the screen because one of the controls was the power button so I disconnected and reconnected my battery. Now this is where I am currently at, there is no activity when the nexus is not plugged in, so I do not think the battery has charged, and when I do put the charger in (and I have to hold it down to physically bend it to charge) it now has a black screen with random white fuzzy pixels and no activity.
Please help!
i thought this thread was a joke lol
dude you may as well just finish the job and run a truck over it :good:
try getting another battery , fixing the power button, if your get more problems just accept .....you killed it lmao good thing they're only £190

Hey Chris, I had a similar issue. The unit was water damaged and went into a continuous loop of turning itself on and off. I eventually also put mine in a bag of rice and took it out after a week to realize the power button was probably damaged and kept looping itself in that cycle. Each time when I plug the device into a power source, it just turns itself on, gets into the OS and then turn itself off again because there wasn't enough power.
I ordered a power button strip on ebay for $10 and tried to install it into the unit. After the installation, I was able to charge the unit (ie: when i plug it into a power source, I can see the charging icon come on and after a day it was fully charge. At the same time, the device didn't keep rebooting itself).
Now that the Nexus 7 is fully charge, whenever i reinsert it into a power socket, the icon will say it is fully charge. When i press the power button however, it won't start up. This is where I am, also stuck and don't know what to do.

[Q] Nexus 7 dead?

I was on my computer when i remembered i has something written in my tablet's notes that was important. I took it out of my bag and noticed it wouldn't turn on, it was out of battery (hadn't touched it for about a week). I just plugged it in the proper asus charger and put it down and went straight back on my computer.
I decide to check on it after 2 hours thinking it would be near or fully charged. I pick it up and noticed it was on a blank back lit screen. I unplugged it and then the screen turned straight off. Wondering if it didn't charge at all i re-plugged it in. There was no google logo (rooted), instead it turn on with a lit black screen and off and repeating a few times and then small thin artifact pixels run across the screen (red, blue and yellowy colours) and then stay at a black lit screen like when i first picked it up. I had just noticed a small buzzing sound while this was happening and still does so when stuck at the screen. I'm pretty sure it was buzzing when i had found it.
I redid what i had done (unplug, replug) and watch to see if it did the same thing. It did. I tried to power it off while it was at the black screen and it did, but then it would turn back on and etc. Same if i tried to enter boot loader or any key combinations.
I've tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting and same effect (tried it without battery attached also)
I have a feeling it is dead now and i have no other ideas (checked many forums but got nothing).
Any help would be appreciated.

It's surely hardware failure, have take some humidity or something like that?
Try press power for 60 seconds, if you wont see any Google logo there's some hardware failure you need to RMA ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_merchandise_authorization )
found the fix
I found away to fix my nexus 7. You could be right how it might have a minor hardware fault, live in australia in the high hot tropics (high humidity). I decide just to plug it into my computer usb charger instead of the proper charger since it had a lower max amp output. Against my ear, a much fainter buzzing is still heard but this time, there was nothing. No power, no back lit black screen, just a very faint buzzing. Decided to let it sit just to see what happens. After an hour or so, i decided to press the power button and noticed there was a battery charging signal. To my delight, I'm sure it was in working order now so i powered it on and oh how relieved i was.
I determined that my device might have had a small hardware fault that made it draw to much power from the 2 amp original charger and thus why the tablet could not boot up properly (from battery depletion). Either that or my charger could be bugged to. But the thing is, since it charged to slow from the usb, i plugged in the proper charger and it worked fine. Just have to try not deplete my battery i guess.
Thanks.

BATTERY (?) Help

Hi Guys, so I flashed Resurrection Remix and it was working fine. Few days later, I woke up to my phone continuously vibrating. Upon checking I saw that it was vibrating because it was doing a boot loop. Unfortunately my PC was broken at the time too, tough week.
Anyway, I let it do it's thing until it runs out of power. It never did. Seriously I waited for a day. When I slept, it had 20% battery (not charging). So I thought maybe, the power button is acting up again which has happened many many times before.
So I opened up my phone and adjusted the power button. Even, holding the volume up while plugging in didnt work anymore.
While I was there I saw the battery connector thingy, I unplugged it and re plugged it real quick without breaking anything. And It restarted and the device worked fine.
But.... The battery icon is steadily at 50% for a min then drops to 0% even while connected to charger. So, I charged it for a few minutes but it doesn't move.
I was about to do a factory reset but it shut down. The battery icon doesn't appear, only the red blinking led light. I tried charging it like that overnight to no avail.
I then tried to remove the battery connector again and as soon as I plug it, the screen turns on then off again. Sometimes it gets to the battery charging icon before it shuts down. If I bend the connector downwards it sometimes turns the screen on and sometimes doesnt.
I took it to repair shops and they said that the problem is the battery and ofc to no suprise, they dont have a replacement.
Do you guys have any idea what happened? Was it a button issue, software issue or indeed battery issue. Before all this happened, the device was working perfectly.
Please help. I miss my phone already.
I think it due socket of battery, can you open the back cover and plugout and plugin this socket, will be OK
