About to buy a new nexus for Christmas and will be flashing quite a few custom ROMs but which is best for custom ROM choice, the 3G version or the WiFi version?
Cheers

Since the Wifi version has been out longer and there's only 1 for the 3G, wifi is going to be your best bet.
Here's the only 3G version that's out:

Hi guys
Just want to know which radio are you guys using. I'm using KD1. Anyone done any testing to see whether this is the best for Australia or a previous version such as kb3.
I know for my x10 there are regional updates for basebands. Is this the case for the nexus S

I too would like to know more info about radios. I'm currently on kb3 and it seems sufficient. I get GPS lock in 10 seconds so reasonably happy.

Tested with Kb3 and Kd1, both same, not much difference as Vodafone network is still upgrade in progress. I guess, KD1 is mre effective for UK

Stock rom doesn't show the H sign. Only custom roms do that. Maybe it's a carrier issue?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I think mostly in AUstralia, we get less "H", I not sure why, gotta ask them
Oh I'm using superaosp.. best rom... so that's not because of stock rom that I don't see h
Funny when I first got the planing on now I see h very often

I'm also with vodafail. Using speedtest, I get better download with the new radio KD1 and upload speed was relatively the same in comparison with KB3
Hi to the Nexus S users. I got a brand new Nexus S 4g this past Saturday coming from a DINC. I'm running CM7 stable. Is anyone having signal issues/slow 3g speeds by the way?

Can't say for sure since I have a Tmo NS but having had Sprint I can tell you my wife and I had those issues with all Sprint phones. Their 3g speeds SUCK.
Make sure you have ke5 or ke1 radio

How do I switch radios and which should I use? I want faster 3g speeds lol actually what I want is a lower, stable ping lol

Sprint is upgrading yhe network so it might go up and down for awhile
If you have rom manager look under peters section he has the radio updates in his downloads

Having the correct radio will give you better reception, which will give you a more reliable connection. As a result you may see increased speeds. Keyword is may. You can decrease your ping by setting a local server ip your phone first connects to. Search for lowering pings. For radios, flash using fastboot. Please be sure to read up on radio flashing as a mistake could be catastrophic. Good luck

I am also new to the NS4G, having switched from evo 4g. Sprint 3G has always sucked the big one and I don't notice any appreciable difference between nexus and evo speeds.
The phone reception IS quite a bit weaker than the Evo however.

Thanks for the responses guys, how would I go about seeing which radio I have?

Can anyone hook me up with all the different radios for the ns4g? Trying to achieve a more stable 4g or even 3g connection as far as my ping goes. I currently don't have access to cable or DSL so I have to rely on my connection for everything. The ping spikes and its making it really hard for me to enjoy battlefield 3
Also, I assume I'm supposed to flash the radio through Odin in the phone section under PDA?

If u feel comfortable flashing them from recovery, in rom manager under peters section he has most of the radios.
I used them to update mine acouple of times

Changing radios wont Chang your ping. There is a way to edit which data network your phone registers on lowering pings. Search lowering pings on sprint and you should find what you are liking for.

Damn, does anyone know if this would be of any use to tweak 4g?

Just about to order a nexus 7 and looking for advice on getting either the WiFi or 3G version.
I would like the 3G version but am concerned that there seems to be hardly any custom ROMs for it. Have I missed something here, as in, can custom ROMs for the WiFi version be flashed on to the 3G version as well?
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks
John

7inch is too big to take it out
Is a 3G nexus a bad choice for custom ROMs?
Thanks guys. My main concern is that if I get the 3G version there will be very few custom ROMs available when compared to the WiFi version.
Can anyone confirm what the range of custom ROMs available is for the 3G version please?
Cheers
John

Perhaps this is an irrelevant question, as the ROMs can be installed on either model?
Wish somebody would tell me, as I don't want get the 3G and regret it.

3G ROM will need to have 3G build... So a lot of the stuff dominating this forum won't work properly ... It will get more support as more units get out there I guess but right now it's slim pickings
all roms work with wifi version and for 3g some work ,some not but it will change soon because developers will update their rom to work and on 3G

Thanks both of your for your comments.
In the end, I ordered a 32 gb WiFi only model as it guarantees good custom ROM support from day one and I can always tether to my phone if I need to.
Cheers
