Radios - Nexus S General

Can anyone hook me up with all the different radios for the ns4g? Trying to achieve a more stable 4g or even 3g connection as far as my ping goes. I currently don't have access to cable or DSL so I have to rely on my connection for everything. The ping spikes and its making it really hard for me to enjoy battlefield 3
Also, I assume I'm supposed to flash the radio through Odin in the phone section under PDA?

If u feel comfortable flashing them from recovery, in rom manager under peters section he has most of the radios.
I used them to update mine acouple of times

Changing radios wont Chang your ping. There is a way to edit which data network your phone registers on lowering pings. Search lowering pings on sprint and you should find what you are liking for.

Still dreaming bout faster speeds.
I laugh when I see people saying they have slow speeds at 3 mbps down and 1-1.5 mbps up. And I get .15-.3 kbs down and up speed is usually double that, on a good day.

PRL
(Preferred Roaming List)
The PRL is a list of information that resides in the memory of some kinds of digital phones. It lists the radio frequencies the phone can use in various geographic areas.
The part of the list for each area is ordered by the bands the phone should try to use first. Therefore it's a kind of priority list for which towers the phone should use.
The PRL helps determine which home-network towers to use, and also which towers belonging to other networks to use in roaming situations (areas where the home network has no coverage.) When roaming, the PRL may instruct the phone to use the network with the best roaming rate for the carrier, rather than the one with the strongest signal at the moment.
Since a PRL tells the phone "where" to search for a signal, as carrier networks change over time, an updated PRL may be required for a phone to "see" all of the coverage that it should, both with the home network and for roaming.

Having the correct radio will give you better reception, which will give you a more reliable connection. As a result you may see increased speeds. Keyword is may. You can decrease your ping by setting a local server ip your phone first connects to. Search for lowering pings. For radios, flash using fastboot. Please be sure to read up on radio flashing as a mistake could be catastrophic. Good luck

I am also new to the NS4G, having switched from evo 4g. Sprint 3G has always sucked the big one and I don't notice any appreciable difference between nexus and evo speeds.
The phone reception IS quite a bit weaker than the Evo however.

Whatever floats your boat. Just saying flashing another radio won't improve your speeds by 200%. You probably just had a bad factory radio or bad radio flash. Always important to verify MD5 before flashing radios/basebands.

You have to apply the LTE hack in order to get LTE on TMobile.
LTE on Nexus 4 is not officially supported and was removed in a radio .48 and above.
So basically,
1. Flash a baseband that is older than .48 (such as .33, .29, etc).
2. Flash the voice fix
3. Build prop change.
This of course is very general, do some searching on XDA and you'll find what you need. #2 and #3 can be done via flashable zips, just find it. You'll probably find things out there that will show you how to manually do that but that is very time consuming, especially if you flash updates to roms which will override it.

That's because the s3 is able to use 3G and calling at the same time. The S4 doesn't have the hardware for it. Since you say you have 4G in your area, when you make a call are you connected to 4G or 3G?

Well all I can tell you is it works great. I just tested it, my phone was showing LTE, I placed a call, and when I was on the call I opened up internet and surfed a couple of pages, ran a speed test, and surfed facebook. So it is definitely something you are doing. You mention you are rooted, did you install a custom rom, which one? Your S3 had SVDO chip which allowed simultaneous data(3g) and voice. Sprint or Samsung got cheap and didn't include SVDO with the S4 because they hoped LTE would be more widespread by the time the phone was sold.

Double-check in your settings what mobile networks the phone can use. Specifically, make sure it's showing both CDMA AND LTE, and not just CDMA. For some reason, some ROMs default to just CDMA.

Well, if that's the case then your phone is broken and you should take it to Sprint and have them replace it. Your phone should definitely be able to access data when on a phone call if you are on LTE or WiFi.
