Skype portrait version - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone have a backup of the last version of Skype before they ruined it by forcing tablet users into landscape orientation?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

Maybe try the Skype Mod in the XDA forum.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1148708 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31041722&postcount=2396

Found the right version #: 2.9.0.315
That version number led me to Android Drawer which had a working apk.

I got it from here:
http://www.androiddrawer.com/6038/download-skype-free-im-video-calls-2-9-0-315-app-apk/
(Are we contravening forum rules with such links or is it OK as long as the actual APK itself doesn't go up?)

I have no explanation. Installs just fine on mine with the same version. Maybe you got a corrupted file?

I just use Ultimate Rotation Control, it has forced auto rotate function, which works great, and can be used on all apps.

Edited names obviously, and used Paint to cover images

What about the actual video chats? Are they okay in portrait as well?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

The portrait video chats are sort of strange using the Play Store version with Ultimate Rotation Control. The pane on the left takes lots of room, resulting in an image cropped on the left and right sides.

A free app called Screen Rotation Control does the job. After loading a small menu pops up. I selected auto. Now Skype turns automatically to landscape or portrait.

Yes, but see my most recent post. The portrait chat display is incredibly awkward. The sidebar results in cropping the left and right sides of the received image, resulting in a narrow video chat. I can't seem to find a way to hide the sidebar.

Samsung Galaxy S trick:Change brightness with a simple swype!!!

Yes it works!
You can change the brightness from the home screen without change any option or install any application.
Press on the notification bar (not open it) and after shows up with the date, just swype left or right to adjust the brightness!!!
Here is my video on youtube to see how it works:

Welcome to 2010 lol. (sorry!).
I think the correct way to do it is just to hold an area on the notification bar (not swype). left is less bright, right is more bright. (at least on latest fws it works like this).
This has been known since éclair. You must have auto brightness off for it to work though.
Thanks for sharing anyway, original thread has probably been lost in the folds. I'm sure there are plenty of new sgs users on here all the time. It is still one of the best smartphones on the market today, and now it's dirt cheap.

Although i agree that it might be handy for new users... There is always room for irony or as in this case sarcasm i believe. I rated this find a single facepalm.

There's a tons of tools to uninstall system apps like Titanium backup. Or you can simply remove the apk and related files with a file manager.
Looks really nice(clear). Have this weird background issue though when going into conversations.
If you scroll the convo it disappears to clear background, but still lol

Guys go to the link I posted on the first page (2nd post of this thread). That's the source of this app. It belongs to Team BlackOut. If you want to follow the actual development of this app, and not report bugs to some random person just sharing the app who hasn't replied back to this thread once, go there. There's probably newer versions since this OP posted this anyways.

Disable Auto Hide Softkeys

I had this app installed that provided the ability to autohide the softkeys, but decided to uninstall it. After rebooting the phone it still has the softkeys autohiding, and I am not sure where to look to disable this function.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.hidesoftkeys
I emailed the programmer but haven't heard back as of yet, and wonder if anyone else has an idea where to look to restore softkeys to default.

Did you restore the soft keys before uninstalling the app? That would be my first step. If that does not work, you'll have to reflash your rom.

Those screens in the App Store are no where to be found, not even in the paid version.
So I reflashed:
system.img
boot.img
vendor.img
But the softkeys are still autohiding. Looks like I need a complete wipe to get rid of it. I find it disheartening that the screenshots shown on the Appstore that show a way to disable the app are not actually part of the installed app.

Unfortunately, that's on the developer to maintain and they appear to be unhelpful. Everything should go back to normal after a factory reset. I suggest using a custom rom to auto hide those keys, if you are so inclined.

You can make the tab invisible within the edge panel settings.

You can do this by using Google Nows on tap feature (make sure it's enabled in Google now settings). Just hold the home button, press share and it will take a screenshot of that window only. The only downside being that you have to send it immediately, it does not save.

I set the transparency to 0% and it's still visible I changed the size to small the only way in the tmobile variant seems to be that you have to turn the edge panel off to do this.

Is Full Screen Possible?

Please be kind and use easy words. I'm a noob!
I would like to ask if it is possible for the S8 to have a full screen all the time? Without the nav bars. I know they disappear with You Tube and some other apps, but can it be done as a standard setting.
I don't mind playing with settings and trying things, as long as I can use simple terms.
Thanks in advance.

This full screen is not the same as the ADB version. That fully resizes the apps. The app version just removes the status bar and nav and leaves a blank black area in most apps.
Yes, the ADB version is the truest form of full screen. Really liking it. My one gripe with on-screen buttons was that they made the actual usable screen space smaller. This way we get to maximize the entire display. Love being able to tweak our phones to our personal likes. Something much easier to do with Android, even non-rooted android, than IOS.
This is awesome but it should have been already included as a feature.

It is with some apps, you have to press the open apps button on the screen and if you can view that app in full screen you press on the green circle in the upper right hand side of the screen.
