just curious really as my phone never gets warm or anything running at 768mhz the battery life is also pretty good.
hey,
i don´t think so, because in the worst case your phone will take damage. But this ~770 mhz are about 250 more then before. Im happy with this xDDD
that is true haha, i just dont see it doing much harm if the phone will run stable higher at the same voltage or the tiniest bit higher
No, that's the limit of the MSM7225. (Achieved by adjusting the PLL to its max, any higher will overrun the limits of the chip, and cause it to most likely fail)
i would like to know, if its very bad for the phone, if you let it permanently run with full speed. Ok, if it will get very hot.. thats clear, but is it bad if you have the 77mhz and it is for example in silent mode, or when you listen to some music. Should you ever take some possible speed away, if its not need? (thx)
The hardware life will probably be reduced. By how much, it cannot be said definitively, but, I am pretty sure that by the time the hardware fails because of overclocking, the phone will have been retired long back.
What you are requesting (Dynamically changing speed) is exactly what Speed Governors (Performance, Internative, OnDemand etc) do. If you are on CM7, use Smartass Governor, because it's the "smartest". If not, then use Interactive governor.
i use ginger yoshi... and sometimes it sais that the sd was removed. Could overclock be a reason for this?
I dont think so. I got the same issue once, and formatting the SDCard fixed it.
ok i will try it thanks

I have a sense rom on the wildfire, so I will try Interactive Governor. Do I still need SetCPU in order to use it?

To use overclocking and governers on sense roms, oc kernel and application like setcpu are must. Setcpu has governers too.

Yes, it does, and it is overclocked to 710 MHz, by default.
i've been wondering .. How bad is it ??
Will it ever kill my phone .. ? or cause anythin bad to it ?
like instability ?
if not ..
and it's completely safe ..
please .. Tell me how 2 overclock it
Cheers ..
Try by yourself.

Look, I don't want to discourage you but...months ago I had a problem with a volume rocker. It wasn't functioning. I sent my X8 for repair and they replaced it's motherboard. I think the cause might have been the overclocked CPU so now I'm not using OC anymore.
Be careful.

Which frequency were you using? I OCed my phone to 691MHz and it works fine.
Probably 710MHz. I was a noob back then

Maybe the connection between the motherboard and volume rocker is not functioning.
BTW,If you don't want to kills your phone, just don't overclock.
No dude .. i don't wanna kill it For sure ..
i use overclock with froyobread rom at 748 Mhz, and it's very smooth. sometimes my phone overheats just a little bit, but if you worry about it you can try a lower frequency. you can install the module with rootexplorer, or maybe file expert, but just if your phone is rooted. i think you should try it out
mine is running @748MhzMax, 480Minimum : Very fast and stable!
Can you tell me how to overclock it? I downloaded SetCPU, but max was 600MHz. I read that i need custom kernel or what?

I don't know anything about overclocking on my Samsung Vibrant T959. I tried to.. I installed the Glitch Kernel HL. with CM7. Can't get to 1.2 ghz at all. I don't know what to do... Do i have to mess with the mVs at all? Please help I'd appreciate it. Anyone recommend an app to use to overclock? I'm using Voltage Control atm... Please help. Thanks.
Set cpu in my opinion is the best app to overclock.
Simply Honey 5.0 w/ 1.2 Bullet kernel. Badass Rom \m/
Agreed, setcpu would be your easiest bet.
Just install, open, slide the bar to 1200 or whatever you want.
I would recommend putting a widget on your home screen.
Makes it really easy to see what you're set on, and easy to modify.
Also, you can create profiles, like under clocking to 400 while the screen is off.
Install quadrant to get a rough idea of how the overclock is according affecting performance.

I disagree with these 2... voltage control is fine... and oc is very straifhtforward... get oc kernel, use oc app to oc... forget wut they said about the profiles, from my exp, they only make things worse. Just oc and dont touch mvs

Antutu's CPU master is another OC alternative for ya, if you are too cheap to spend money on SetCPU that is.
setcpu. best so far for me

- Agreed! that messing with voltage is more trouble than its worth.
- Disagree! that profiles make things worse. It really depends on the settings. You should never UNDERclock your "max" to anything less than 800mhz.
For example: I have 1 profile set, its a High temp profile. When the phone reaches 125F setcpu resets to 800mhz(max) - 200mhz(min). Until the phone cools to under 125F then setcpu bumps it back to 1.7Ghz(max) - 200mhz(min).
Trust me this happens often and I'm glad I have that set, haven't had any problems with it.
Setcpu seems to be easy for me!
I recently flashed the newest Trinity Kernel on my Nexus 7. I still have the stock ROM. I tried to tweak the CPU settings with ROM Toolbox and the most I can overclock is 1400mhz. Why can't I overclock to 1600? Is it because of the stock ROM? I'm looking into Glazed Jelly Bean as a custom ROM but I'm not sure I want or need to use a custom ROM at this point.
Any suggestions?
Because he dropped the Max. You probably flashed A111 correct? That's a TSVZ meaning it is slightly over clocked and undervolted kernel meant for battery not for performance.

Nice, ill have to look into rooting sometime soon.
Ok, I got the a96 and I've flashed it...
Is there a detailed changelog for each version? The a111 said it was a 1600mhz kernel so I don't understand why it was dropped down to 1400. That's where my confusion was.
I did notice some increase in speed at 1400. I was having some stuttering issues with Dead Trigger and Minecraft PE, and they were less with the 1400. I've got it running at 1600 now but I don't know what it will do to the battery or how well it will perform. I'll find out later. I've run through the battery pretty quickly today, but I was tinkering with it A LOT so it's not accurate.
What kind of tweaks could I do using Rom Toolbox that would help me maximize my battery while overclocking to 1.6?
Dont over clock.. i dont even see a need to. I use the ondemand gov which stutters a little but using interactive clears that up. Also using the CFQ IO as it is the stock IO used. Its stock so its gotta be good . Also you should turn F-Sync off that helps quite a bit. Also you could toggle auto hotplug and make it only run two cores while gaming and then turn it back on when finished so that way it will hotplug cores as it sees necessary. You could also up the voltages a little bit, some CPU's dont like the lower voltage and that will cause stuttering and glitching just up them by 25mV and see if it clears if not try another 25mV.
I will try those things, but I really want to play with overclocking and learn what happens. This is my first Android device so I'm experimenting and playing around.
But I have one more question...I've overclocked to 1.5...I found 1.6 to be the same as 1.5. But it seems that after an hour or so, it resets to 1.3. in ROMToolbox. Why is this?
Don't use rom toolbox. Use the Trinity app. It sticks just fine for me. Besides you support the dev to make better kernels.

Overclocking past 1.4 Ghz doesn't result in any major usability improvements. I've gone up to 1.7 Ghz and the only thing it does is make my tablet really warm and unstable. All you really need for improving system performance is I/O tweaks to speed up app and page loading, and a little bit of GPU overclocking to help with the transitional effects.
and, to be honest, depending which trinity kernel im using, im using either 1100 or 1150mhz mostly. on a111 im using 1100mhz and on a96 i used 1150mhz. with those speeds everything is still fast but a bit better on battery
Overclocking
If you want a little more information about the the overclocking if you havent already you might want to check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788759 its the official thread of the trinity kernel for grouper.
Hello guys,
Our X8/W8 is a slow speed device and without proper memory management there would be many lags and unresponsiveness in our device. So to overcome these problems I have some tips and thought that I will share it with all you guys.
These are those tips that I know of and those that I believe will actually speed up your phone and some tips here will also allow you to conserve some battery life too.So here we go:
Dont use too many apps.Delete all unused apps.
Dont use more than 2 launchers in the same device. It will cause a lot of RAM loss.
When selecting your default launcher try to select a launcher that is small in size so that it will ony take up a small amount of RAM.
To reduce HomeScreen Redrawing check the "Keep Home In Memory" app found in almost all Custom ROMs.This will reduce the time taken for your HomeScreen to fully load up after you exit an app.
Dont Undervolt the CPU if you find that your Phone is becoming too slow.
When selecting a rom make sure that your ROM is lightweight(small in size). The Custom ROM runs in the RAM of our device and when the Custom Rom is small in size then it will take up only a small amount of RAM and you will have more free RAM.
Odexed ROMs should technically speed up your Phone but the difference will be only minor.
If your manufacturing date is 11W29 or below then it would be good to unlock the Bootloader and flash a Custom Kernel. If the Custom Kernel is a good one then we can notice a change in our Phone's speed.
Remove all bloatware from the Custom Rom.
Reduce the use of Live Wallpapers.
Turn off 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Data Services etc when they are not in use. This speeds up your Rom and also conserves your Battery.
Overclocking should be done ONLY when needed so bad. What it does is that it supplies more power than needed to you CPU and tries to increase its clock speed. This may speed up you phone but it also OVERHEATS the CPU and as a long term effect it may destroy your CPU.So you will have to buy a new phone!
Its better to have a darker theme than a lighter one.Darker themes conserves the Battery and also speed up your device a bit.
Dont use a Third Party Task Killer app. Android will manage it memory by itself.
After Rebooting or Turning on the device wait for a 1-2 minutes even after the screen is fully loaded. This allows the ROM to settle and you can use it more efficiently afterwards.
Use of V6 Supercharger by Zepplinrox,The Adrenaline Engine etc has to be considered over Overclocking as overclocking will ultimately damage the CPU.
This list of tips will be constantly updating. If you have any tips that you use to speed up your phone please post it here and I will add it to this list.
Click THANKS if this helped!!
Enjoy!!!!!!!!

Have somebody seen bricked x8 by overclock? I don't think so. I'm using my phone with maximum oc my phone can run. 245/787mhz for about year (since I have bought it) and it is still working great without any issues.
Sorry for my English.

In all my life I have never heard this before.I dont think Android will kill the SystemUI. It is like killing itself, and that is NOTlikely to happen. The "Lock Home In Memory" doesnt make your launcher indestructible! It just make it a little more difficult to kill but yet "kill-able".It will kill the launcher only when a lot of other unwanted apps have been killed. That option just gives the launcher a little more priority.

When you overclock have you ever touched the phone's back???
Well you can see that its hotter than usual. This means that more amount of power goes into the CPU.
For example, You take the case of a LED.When you give it the right amount of power it lights up very well, but what happens when you give it a lot more power than needed??It will overheat and eventually get destroyed.Thats the same thing that will happen here.Overclocking may not explode your CPU but if you have overclocked for a long time and then switch to normal then you can see that the CPU is now less efficient than it was before overclocking.
Cheers
Leon
last mini cm10 nightly + nAa .32 v4 its pretty fast but when I add Seeder app it seems to be a lot of faster.
App is reduced some lags so maybe it's only illusion
By doing implementing these tips you can get a better speed without much effort. But surely these tips wont make your phone an Xperia Z but you can surely notice some effects.
Swapper 2
Does using swapper 2 or a similar application help ?
I personally wont recommend Swaping. It will reduce our SDcard life. And we need to use a very high quality SD card which is very costly and and you will have a reduced life span of SD card too. But if you can afford buying a High Quality Class SD card once in a while then its OK.
