I'm inthe process of my first nandroid backup and so far its been 40 min. and still says "waiting for the bkup to complete and for your device to boot back up...". Now I have loaded three movies on the device for an upcoming trip along with some music (should have done the bkup prior) but is this taking too long all things considered or am I in a heap of doodoo. The nexus screen shows the TWRP screen with install, wipe etc. Thanks
Something is wrong, the longest a nanadroid backup has taken me on any device is about 5min, no matter what recovery I'm using. If your using twrp there should be a list of the process going on, if your nexus isn't showing any restart the process

It went through a series of processes for about five min. and the settled on thw window that says "Waiting for bkup and reboot". So should I pull the plug on the nexus and pray. It's been an hour and twenty now.
Are you using a toolkit to make the backup? Just do it directly from recovery, there is no need to have nexus attached to the computer when creating a nandroid. scrap the toolkit will make your life easier

I have an epic that has the one click root. It has been working great but today i downloaded this new app called SGS battery icon mod2 and after i selected a layout, it restarted and then it just stayed at the startup screen thats black and white letters. says "samsung www .samsungmobile .com" and i cant turn off the phone unless i pull the battery.
Were you running a custom rom?

Time for an odin restore or three finger boot into clockwork recovery and do a few wipes.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Not sure but it seems the the app is not compatible for the epic. Like stated above if your running a custom rom. Reflash it and see if it'll start. If not than you may have to do a complete wipe through clockwork. Or if you made a backup just restore it.

Hi,
My Galaxy Note start having this long boot up waiting times after reverting back from ICS update.
The phone would wait for around 5 minutes on the Samsung splashing boot up screen and then a vibration with a light would emits the lower menu buttons when the phone is about to start.
It's like the waiting time for "Android is upgrading... Scanning applications XXX - 296" on the ICS!
Any help or ideas on how to fix that? Maybe a change in the numbers of "boot up timeout" file or something, if there's any can fix it???
Thanks!

Have you tried clear cache n wipe data?
Yes I've done cache wipe, dalviks cache wipe, system restore before reverting back!!!!
some time post flash it needed.
you can try again still not works, Reflash stock ROM again
I really have no time of doing so, it's time consuming...! Can I do that and then apply CWM backup restore??? Or it's going to conflict?
Cwm backup will push system junk if restore completely, so restore data only

I haven't had the need since going to the Note, but there's a neat program called alogcat which, for the boot animation, shows the logcat file scrolling by.
It might be useful to see what the Note is grinding on as it's booting up.
I used it for my mytouch 4g. Also nice to know that the boot is actually still 'booting' versus totally hung.

How do you go over th boot menu in alogcat? You just scroll and search for boot?

Hi I have a problem with my Nexus 7 (32 gb wifi only version).
My son in his infinite wisdom decided to install ubuntu on the tablet.
I went to try and restore this back to the android version but all it did was to wipe off ubuntu itself
I then went on jayceooi.com and used the nexus toolbox to see if I could reflash the images etc.Howveer although all the files were downloaded I canot get the laptop to recognise the nexus itself (even though it sems to charge the tablet). There is no menu at all to check whether or not usb debugging is ticked or not..
Im now left with the tablet without no apparent operating system. At the moment all it shows is the green android with fastboot mode but when I hit start it says booting failed.
Could someone help please before I do any more damage and I brick it completly (although I may have already done so)
thankyou for any help

Yes it can do restore back to stock. Just follow the guide to unlock bootloader so it can flash stock image then just re lock bootloader. It covers the process in op.

Ok thanks all. Seemed to be doing everything ok but its been stuck on"waiting for your device to finish booting back up" for about 30 minutes now. It did say it would take 5 to 10 mins but should i carry on waiting or abort and start again do you think?
thanks
I would reset it see if that helped

If your son re did the partitions for Ubuntu that could have messed things up pretty good. I have only had my nexus for a few days so I couldn't tell you how to fix the formatting quite yet. I would search around on how to verify and correct the partitions if needed.

Heya...
On my 16GB Grouper I had installed the stock rooted 4.3 rom. Yesterday a system OTA update message appeared on my screen - 1.7 MB. I let it download and install over night and just went to bed. Came back in the morning to a boot loop where the device got stuck with the four colorful thingies animation. I can access the bootloader, but the recovery seems to be broken. Can't remember if I had anything other than the stock one... Anyways, now I'm strugling to get this thing going again. I am a zero at ADB but willing to learn whatever is necessary to get me started with a working recovery at least. No tool root box will do anything really for me...
Thanks for your help in advance
Hey!
Had a problem just like yours. If your running windows then install this program its called nexus tool kit. I'm a newbie here but if you Google 'nexus toolkit wug fresh' you can find it
All you need to do is plug your device in and open the program, then select flash OTA with the boot loop option and then follow the on screen instructions
That should put you back to normal with a fresh start meaning all you data will be lost. You can also root from there to.

Yeah. It would be dumb to actually learn what you are doing to your device. You should totally use a toolkit.

Thank you guys. You might not believe it, but I'm not a newb to Android or flashing. It's just that I've always been playing around with Samsung devices and there you'd normaly turn to Odin in case something went wrong. Here it's different.
Anyways, with this comprehensive guide I've been able to reflash a recovery image and my old rom. Unfortunately losing all of my data in the process, but there was no way to save it.

In case this happens to anybody else.

Help, I downgraded from 2.3 to 2.2 for various reasons, but now when I try to upgrade again I just get the pink screen ,if I try using the option from settings/storage,it says key data couldn't be backed up , the installation will stop. Also if I boot into the system it runs fine for about a minute then locks up completely so I can't even continue to use it in 2.2 can anyone advise ?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
Try to put the 2.3 dload folder to a sd card, then remove the battery, plug in a USB cable to the computer and the phone, volume up+down+power (if I remember right lol). See if it will update that way.
no, that's the usual way I've been flashing it, I can get to the image folder ,but it won't boot into recovery either

Odd. Maybe try to flash the ICS pink screen unlocker? I had weird issues at some point too, then I flashed that and the problems went away. Afterwards flash ICS.
Just tried that, still no luck,it doesn't even get to the unpacking screen,it just stays pink. beginning to think its beyond repair

I think it's still possible to fix it. I was loosing hopes too, but I messed around with it anyway and got it working. Just try different dload's, different methods and maybe you'll get it running. Maybe other users will have some ideas too.

As long as your phone still gets power and pink/blue screen shows there is nothing to be afraid of yet, since this isn't a hardbrick.
Contact me on hangouts telling me what you have done resulting in the above issue.
I have bricked my u8800pro in every possible way both soft and hard brick (thank god warranty was still active back then).

Hi there!
I think when you upgrade from software menu there is an option for data back-up.
Uncheck this option and the error should go away.
Also what do you mean with this: "Also if I boot into the system it runs fine for about a minute then locks up" ?
What do you mean it locks up? Touchscreen is not responsive for example?
My suggestions:
1) Do a factory reset and then check if you can upgrade
2) Try re-installing your recovery(use cwm 5.0.27 by geno for best compatibility) or even replace the whole image folder with the froyo one from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2146856
Your phone is not beyond repair that's for sure. Since it boots fine.

I haven't noticed an option for data backup, will check again later on. And yes when it locks up touch screen becomes unresponsive and none of the buttons respond either. Also when I try to enter recovery ,both custom and stock, it displays the kernel logo then vibrates with a black screen for a second then back to kernel logo and continues to boot.

Ok guys,I copied over the stock image folder and now it works ok, however I still can't upgrade from froyo. At least I can use it again though so thanks for your help, its much appreciated. Incidentally, there wasn't an option to back up data when upgrading, but that error has now gone, except it now just reboots instead, so I will just keep trying.

Steps 1&2 in dload folder ,step 2 renamed to UPDATE_G.APP.
Didn't use step 3 as I was updating to ICS after that
