HELP!?!?! - Epic 4G General

I have an epic that has the one click root. It has been working great but today i downloaded this new app called SGS battery icon mod2 and after i selected a layout, it restarted and then it just stayed at the startup screen thats black and white letters. says "samsung www .samsungmobile .com" and i cant turn off the phone unless i pull the battery.

Were you running a custom rom?

Time for an odin restore or three finger boot into clockwork recovery and do a few wipes.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

Not sure but it seems the the app is not compatible for the epic. Like stated above if your running a custom rom. Reflash it and see if it'll start. If not than you may have to do a complete wipe through clockwork. Or if you made a backup just restore it.

[Q] need some help

my epic is rooted with one click but im trying to install roms but cant.when i get to the recovery screen and try to flash it says..E:failed to verify whole-file signature..E:signature verification failed..im useing rom manager im i missing something
Did you have clock work mod, installed, and when you reboot with rom manager are you making sure you are holding power, volume down, and the camera buttons down until clockwork appears. Samsung stock restore is blue in color. Clockwork is green in color, well mine is at least. You want to make sure you are in clockwork and click CHOOSE zip from sd card. NOT install zip from sd

Thanks ill give it a try..thax for the qwick response
No problem, I had the same problem my self. I thought recovery was clockwork no one tips me clockwork was green instead of blue so I thought I was already in clockwork

It took me a while to realize that I had to find the downloaded rom in the download folder on the sd card when I first started.
Posted via XDA app on Epic Experience 1.2.03 ROM with Phoenix 1.45 kernel
it worked nicely..ya thought i was missing a step, got it now.....thanx again...
Yeah that's the step most people don't really point out. They just say reboot into clockwork

Need Help

I tried installing a new ROM and kernal on my continuum using the CWM and now when I start up my phone the whole screen is just a bunch of random colors I did a backup and restore and now its starts up in the discolored screen then a voice says restore and the phone restarts PLEASE HELP
which rom and kernel?
rom dl17 clean
kernel pbJ
I think I forgot to reboot and installed them both before rebooting i can still get into cvm and tried my restore but still have same issue except now it just constantly has a womans voice saying restore and the phone restarts
You need to install another kernel.... Install Adryn's kernel through cwm... You can easily find it in development... You flashed a voodoo kernel without knowing what you were getting your self into and how to fix it if it went wrong, *tisk tisk*
If you need more help, just ask

ok i figured out how to get this kernel installed but now it just sits at the SAMSUNG white startup screen what do I do now?
ok now I tried this
If that doesn't work, which is probably won't, then reflash the stock recovery, then try the cwm v4 adryn recovery, then try the stock kernel, and then the system image, all in Odin... In that order
and its starts up like it used to and gets stuck at the Verizon Wireless screen?
You can do your backup now...

Helpful fella, that guy.
Hey guys, so I flashed the novoodoo kernel last night and when I rebooted it put me into a boot loop, I tried to restore my back-up and it said it failed to unmount /system I did a factory reset and it took care of the loop and my phone is fine now with novoodoo installed but I can't find out why I can't restore my back-ups... and I'm using the yellow clockwork for back-up and restore
Honestly i've been doing a crap ton of research on all this since I got my phone back in January and I really feel like I'm missing something small and obvious

Before i yell at you, let me make sure....
Are you using the Yellow CWM or the Blue CWM?
Just yellow... it's the only one I've used
Sent from my Continuum Transfunctioner
Ah, alright... well, yellow isn't that good at restoring... try blue! Lol
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA Premium App
xP of course! Shame on me for not doing a backup in both blue and yellow... but after the factory reset my sns feeds on the ticker actually worked for once... for like ten minutes...

Lol, I know what you mean brother man I would stop messing with it though, because we are getting the 2.2 update soon xD which should hopefully fix it!

Not so random reboots

I updated to EI22, stock w/OTA update. I then rooted and things were working great. Then about 1 week ago, I did a CWM backup and when I restarted the phone just kept automatically rebooting approx. every 3 -4 minutes. I could not stop it no matter what I did. Then I restored the backup and it worked fine. A few days later, I turned the power off to put in a my extra battery, and when I turned it on, the same thing happened. I had to restore twice fir it to stop this time. Then this morning, I did a reboot to see what would happen, and again it happened. Mind you it was working flawless before I restarted it. I have tried everything from removing programs, turning off the wifi, leaving the battery out for a half hour, but nothing. Sometimes after it reboots, I leave it alone for 15 minutes and then when I hit the power button, it just restarts.
Any ideas before I put back froyo??
Sounds like a bad flash. I would Odin all the way to Stock EC05 then root then flash a Gingerbread ROM. Your error is either in the kernel or recovery to happen immediately after boot. It could even be a flaky partition table.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
OK. Funny, I flashed backed to a stock EC05 and did the OTA update so as to possible avoid any problems like this.

I figured that but the problem may lie in the rooting which required you to flash a kernel or in your recovery module.

Your not alone on this issue. I am also considering going back to froyo
ADW was nice enough to bring up a crash report that I emailed myself. In the stack trace I see that android Package manager has died as a cause of the exception. I am not a java programmer so am at a loss here to what's happening.

So I flashed to the ACS ICS rom and so far no problems. What a great ROM!! Many thanks to Marcusant and ACS.

don't use the OTA.
just root ec05, flash CWM 5, flash modem update ec05 to EI22, flash a rom of your choosing. it's that simple. i don't see why people go the OTA route. it just causes problems with the recovery.
EDIT: also if you want Rom manager, check the kernel(or rom) for compatibility.
Why use ROM MANAGER at all? All the same tasks can be done from Clockwork Mod directly?

It was not supported for the Epic before but with the new CWM5 it is. It is much faster to boot into recovery from ROM Manager rather than powering down and 3 fingering into it. Plus ROM Manager supports renaming your backups when you are doing them. Also ROM Manager will continuously update your CWM if new versions come out. There is also OTA updates available if the developer supports it on their ROM.

Long waiting times for boot ups! Galaxy Note.

Hi,
My Galaxy Note start having this long boot up waiting times after reverting back from ICS update.
The phone would wait for around 5 minutes on the Samsung splashing boot up screen and then a vibration with a light would emits the lower menu buttons when the phone is about to start.
It's like the waiting time for "Android is upgrading... Scanning applications XXX - 296" on the ICS!
Any help or ideas on how to fix that? Maybe a change in the numbers of "boot up timeout" file or something, if there's any can fix it???
Thanks!

Have you tried clear cache n wipe data?
Yes I've done cache wipe, dalviks cache wipe, system restore before reverting back!!!!
some time post flash it needed.
you can try again still not works, Reflash stock ROM again
I really have no time of doing so, it's time consuming...! Can I do that and then apply CWM backup restore??? Or it's going to conflict?
Cwm backup will push system junk if restore completely, so restore data only

I haven't had the need since going to the Note, but there's a neat program called alogcat which, for the boot animation, shows the logcat file scrolling by.
It might be useful to see what the Note is grinding on as it's booting up.
I used it for my mytouch 4g. Also nice to know that the boot is actually still 'booting' versus totally hung.

How do you go over th boot menu in alogcat? You just scroll and search for boot?

And the third Lil piggys house was made of BRICKS!!

Can anyone explain to me why everytime I do a factory reset/ wipe of my device (vibrant 3g).. and I reboot, it gets stuck on the Samsung vibrant screen, can't get into cwm with buttons or stock recovery, and have to Odin myself out of brick mode..
Also.. I realized that I don't have the stock navigation on my phone and Google maps takes foreverrrrrrrr to lock on..in fact it hasn't locked on once since I had the phone.
Rooted, and CWM on 2.1 eclair stock.
TIA

I don't know why it would brick. Are you factory resetting from cwm or while the phone is on under settings. Also the vibrant has extremely crappy GPS. The newer ROMs have files that help it lock on better but the vibrant just still has crappy gpd

When I bought the phone (used for 50 buxx) guy I bought it from said he did a fact data wipe while phone was on under settings.. the phone was on the vibrant screen when he handed it to me. After he left, still stuck on vibrant screen. I decided after realizing phone was bricked that I would Odin myself out...which I did, then rooted and flashed cwm. Tried flashing a custom rom so I data wiped and restored from cwm before installing rom. After rom loaded bam stuck on vibrant again.. even after reflashing rom twice. Odin'd out again :/
Now I reluctantly tried again with cm7 but decided I would try just wiping cache/dalvik from cwm and BAM! bootlooped at cyan7 screen, reflashed cm7 and wazambamboozle! Now running cm7 flawlessly.

To tell you the truth I have no idea why its doing that. But if you want a clean flash every time you could just Odin back then wipe dalvik and cache then just flash over it

Yea idk why either all I know is so far so good on cm7.. just gonna leave it alone lol
