Yes but I suggest to just restore apps not app/data. Since it came from a different device N10 may not like the data stored in those apps and you'll more then likely run into problems.

The apps are easy, I don't need those restored. It's the data that's important. That's what I need restored..all my settings, game progress, etc.
Yes I'm wondering the same thing. I'd like to be able to get game saves from my galaxy nexus. It would be even more awesome if the saves could sync.
No problem for me to restore app + data from my Galaxy Note under JB...
Of course I haven't done this with system app

You do not want to restore any system app data/settings. I've done it for years moving from old phone to new phone or old tablet to new tablet.

How can I do this? I moved the two backup files onto my new device but I'm not sure how to get them to restore in TBU so I can restore them. I tried importing them but that fails. I can now see the app in my list of downloads (with a line through it) but when I try to restore it doesn't work. It appears as if it works but the app is not on my device.
Do I need to first install the app from Play and then restore over that? I'm missing a step here.

I've not tried doing any of this yet, but one problem would be the device I. D. has changed between the new device & old one. I would think that the app (especially a paid one) would first have to be installed via Play Store to the new device. Then maybe "data only" restored? When I change roms, my device ID always changes also, and before any paid apps can be re-installed I have to allow TiBu to restore the old ID first.

I have only tried my backup pro since I purchased it for this reason since restoring to different devices was a pro only feature. I used it successfully to restore all my apps and data from my epic to my photon. It restores the apk only it doesn't even say restoring data during the process. I tried just downloading the game off the play store and restoring only data but it refuses to see the .zip data file created by my photon. This game data has gone through a gb to ICS upgrade on my epic, then from my epic to a stock GB photon, and then to ICS then back down to cm7 so I know it will work. I could put the data somewhere manually but I cant find where to put it despite numerous Google searches. Thanks in advance

Adb backup should work fine if the source device is running ICS. No root needed and free.

Yup, i also would recommend Titanium.
I was finally able to restore the data but sigh... there are graphical glitches on the top half of the screen. Tried a fresh install but t no avail. Thanks all for helping just gotta wait for the developer to update the app for jelly bean

One of the things holding me back from moving from stock is all the setting/config I need to do..
Things like cerberus need to be opened and setup again, all my attached accounts typically need to be setup again, exchange, haxsync...etc.. Not to mention my settings for things like screen timeout, no haptic feedback, no button press noises.. etc.
I have titanium and usually do the backup apps, no system data. I'm always afraid system data won't play nice when switching ROMS...
so what's the preffered method to getting all this done as streamlined as possible?
I just chalk it up as part of the cost of flashing. Doesn't take that long to redo all the settings, and the various programs/accounts I just deal with as they come up. Agree that system data shouldn't be restored on a new ROM.
Sorry, not exactly a helpful answer! It's definitely one of the things that prevents me from 'trying out' different roms.
I find that going through the process of adjusting all the settings also helps in exploring all the features of the new rom you just flashed.
Well if you're sticking to new releases of the same ROM then dirty flashing usually works. I only do a full wipe when a major change happens in a new release or when changing between completely different ROMs.
And anyway apart from system settings, titanium keeps everything else backed up (haxsync, Facebook, whatsapp, messages etc)
In the backup and restore menu of settings, if you tick the option that let's Google keep a backup of your phone then even the system settings get saved there. Just allow it to restore from that when in the initial setup screen of the new ROM.

I usually flash a ROM and do a minimal setup until I decide whether or not I'm going to use it. If I decide the ROM is worthy, then I go to the extra effort.

I like to use titanium backup with all data backed up. If you're careful you can get your previous setup with most of your data and settings intact. TB tends to show apps and settings that may cause problems in red so you don't restore them accidentally. If you don't restore everything you want from a TB backup you'll have to go through and reconfigure everything.

Be advised though. Back up everything and restore selectively.
Favorite/Safest method so far...
1 Backup all apps/data.
2 Completely format.
3 install new ROM.
4 set up Google account and let it auto download and install your old apps.
5 use titanium backup batch option to restore all apps, BUT select restore data only at the top.

Thanks for all the replies, it's pretty much what I've been doing.
I went and installed Minco last night but my Titanium restore from ZIP didn't really work too well, so I went backt o my nandroid...
I may just give it some more time before I start flashing. Also I may try a 3rd party exchange app, that way titanium will backup all it's data

Sorry. Yeah. For the most thorough change to another ROM.
Back up your phone.
Backup your "sdcard" on your computer or cloud.
Wipe system, data, cache (not sdcard)
Install the ROM.
Reboot to make sure the ROM works.
Wipe/format your "sdcard"
Then begin to restore.
This is IMO because the sdcard area gets pretty dirty with small pointless folders and files over time.

I was playing deadspace on my N4 while running AOKP build 4 everything was good. Upgraded to build 2 and expected to titanium restore the data (I was at chapter 8) but nope. It didn't restore my data. Anyone know a way for me to back it up next time j want to change ROMs? I don't have to have to keep starting over every few weeks...

On titanium did you select backup all user app or backup all user apps and system data. I believe user app backup just remembers the fact that you have that app and system data should be the information gathered from such things as games?

Really? I didn't know that. I thought system data was just for system apps (ROM + Gapps, non PlayStore downloaded)
Next time I'll try backing up the system data too, I hope that will work
Can anyone confirm Deadspace's game data is part of system because my Bad Piggies data restored just fine without backing up system apps...

I just got my warranty replacement nexus 4 (Google support is amazing!), and want to transfer stuff from my "old" nexus 4 to my "new" nexus 4. Is it possible to do it via NANDROID backup? Is there any information that depends on the actual hardware information (maybe things like google login is in some way connected to the serial number of the phone)?

You can do it that way but I would prefer starting fresh with only restoring app data..
Back up your current apps with carbon (recommend just doing app data), and copy the carbon folder and everything else on the sd card you need to your computer. Sign into your new phone and let the apps download. Copy the carbon folder and everything else you need onto your new device. Restore all the apps data.

seriously you could do some damage AFAIK (at least that was the case on my HTC desire or G1 as i recall some similiar thread on xda)
feel free to restore Carbon / Titanium / Mybackup applications and their data but not the WHOLE nandroid !!!
of course i could be wrong and restoring nandroid could be 100% safe.
but as i said i do recall some guy messing things up by exactly doin that, just cant remember which phone was that.
As others have said, using Titanium or a similar backup app is probably the safest option. One thing you could try is doing a full backup but then doing an 'advanced restore' in recovery and only restoring the /data partition. I'm not entirely sure whether this will work but it was fine on my old HD2. Still, I personally see Titanium as being the best solution.

I used a nandroid to my replacement and it worked like a charmed. Titanium backup sucks and always puts my phone not a boot loop.
on an older phone, htc evo 4g I had 2 phones, the nandroid would not restore on the second phone, the device id or something was different.

This is an opinion, so don't state it as a fact. I reckon I've used Titanium well over 30 times to backup/restore (I was constantly changing ROMs on my HD2) and it has never failed me. As long as you don't mess with system settings and are sensible with what you restore you should never have a bootloop when using Titanium.
Can I backup my 2012 N7 and restore it to my 2013?
The 2012 is rooted and unlocked on 4.3.
If so when I boot it up should I tell it to load everything from google play restore, skip it, where to start.

You can back up your apps and system data (wifi, sms etc) with Titanium or ROM Toolbox, and restore it to the new tablet.
Be aware that restoring app data to another ROM may be problematic for some apps, so be ready to erase app data for apps that misbehave (no notifications, force closes etc.).
Don't ever restore system data to a device that is not the same model and does not have the same ROM. Only restore your apps and app data.

First of all, thanks to all for the quick help! I am leaving on vacation in a day and kinda wanted to get this going
So in Titanium I would do a full backup with option 1 it looks like "Backup all user apps" since I don't want any system data.
Pushing it to a USB drive now. No SD on a Nexus 7 sadly.
Exactly. Then save the titanium backup folder that your backups get saved to, to a safe place off of the device
