I doubt that between A500 and Transformer.
I'm surprised that the forum Transformer many cases of errors and failures, and in this forum I have not seen thread discussing these or other faults.
The Acer does not fail?
Many errors appear to be of Honeycomb. In A500 not occur?

Not sure. I get a fair number of FC with the built-in apps & even things like settings, but they usually work the second time.
In general I tend to think it's Honeycomb more than the device, but that's pure guesswork.
So far the only things I'm actually unhappy about are the troubles I'm having getting HD video files to work, and how darned SMALL my Droid feels after playing on the tablet for a while.

There are Sleep of Death issues, as well as the screen constantly flickering on (when off) for no discernible reason.
Just curious, if anybody else having problems running xda devlopers website. Not the app, but the actual website, click the forum section and see if its scrolls smoothly.

I do not know but I do not have any of these problems that a lot of people are talking about on here. I get an occasional FC but thats on apps that arent made for tabs. I never get the off and on screen. I love this thing. It really blows the rest out of the water, I will probably get an asus when they get more just so I can use both for a couple of days and then make the decision that fits me.
I have had more issues with the acer then with the asus.

The Acer usb driver works fine on W7 x64. I had no problems installing nor using it. Do you have Vista x64?
What kind of pressure are you putting on the back of the case?
Why does this screen bother you vs ASUS, out of curiosity? Do you have the ASUS? There is ALWAYS going to be something better. Get the ASUS - something will better it in weeks. If it'll make you happier, you should exercise your option, as someone who has spent their money.
Dead Pixel = Sad to have to wait until tomorrow to exchange
So I found my first annoying flaw with my Acer Tab. I had the tab charging while at work today, and when I arrived home, the tablet was frozen. I had to hold down the power button to get it to reboot. Upon reboot, I noticed that there is a dead pixel on the bottom center of the screen. I'm too picky I know, but it bothers me enough that I will be taking it back to Best Buy tomorrow, but I am hoping to exchange for a new one, I am sure there will be no problem exchanging and I also have the extended warranty. Any one else have any problems with the acer freezing while charging?
Yeh this happen to me I set to charge last night, woke up was frozen restarted but no dead pixels

I read somewhere that the Iconia won't be receiving updates until June. But I could be wrong.

I have server 2008 r2 with xendesktop running win 7 virtual pc both running x64. I tried at work on win 7 x64 and it won't install. Gives no error. I does work on my wife's pc and its x64. I think it has something to do with domain connected pcs.
If I grab it on the plastic side's then it makes a popping sound. If I grab it by the back it's fine.
The viewing angles and color contrast is better on asus but the acer has awesome screen compared to older tablets.

sounds like a permissions issue on the pc you're trying to run it on. I ran the driver install just fine on the two computers I run at home, both W7 x64 and can see the A500 when it is connected. I do get a driver failed to install if I reboot it while it is connected to the PC. I'm guessing there's no driver for how the USB displays itself during boot (not sure what the exact device my PC saw, it was a couple days ago). I might try again tonight when I get home and see what driver it's looking for. I think it had something to do with MTP?

That's surprising! In the UK, the Transformer is £70 cheaper (call it €80) than the Iconia.
Are you sure you're not looking at the bundled keyboard version?

I respectfully suggest most of the issues some may be seeing are due to apps not working well with Honeycomb. Not all, but most probably are.
I may turn the Acer in for a Asus because of two things: 32GB option and the option for the keyboard (that will also be an extended battery, knowing that there will be just keyboard options at one point for the Acer). As for the user that mention "noises" when picking up the device, I don't know, but with mine I know I have to really make an effort to create any noise when picking it up ir even just holding it in general. I have had it since day one launch at BB and have been very happy with the quality. My only fear if I decide to keep it over the Asus really is the XDA support that the a us seems to be getting more than the Acer right now in the development section compared to the Acer.

It works but you may need root for certain things although I don't think a mouse would work as it is a touch device.

Love it, far better than any Android tablet at the moment.

A lot of apps have been improved and look better than before but not all, although I haven't found any apps that look horrendous.

I find the battery is awesome, also a custom kernel/ROM can have a big impact on it.

I use the poetic slimline case, there have been some issues with it not fitting properly but mine is fine, not sure about docks/stands

I use the usb otg cable and a four port usb hub. Keyboard and mouse are just plug and play. Which is the case for all the android devices I've owned. I've been rooted since the moment I bought it so I'm not sure if you need root for thumb drives.

I personally love the device. I had a Asus Tf101 before and this is a far better product.

The apps are improving quite well and even the few non tablet apps that I use don't look horrible. Not sure if you can see the online play store in your location but if you can there is a tablet filter that can give you a better idea of the available apps.

For the most part I use my at home after work. I find that it can easily last me three days.
-Is there a good stand, dock, or case that's recommended?
I have the iblason black faux leather case and the brown suede bear motion case off of Amazon. I'm finding now this i prefer the iblason which is about 18.00 on amazon.

I personally recommend it, based on it`s specs, it`s still the best bang for the buck. But it also greatly depend on your needs from a tablet device.

Given the high resolution screen, yes some app do look blurry or pixelated if not optimized for tablet. For me, i can live with it, we will get more and more tablet optimized apps for sure.

Great battery life although below my expectations. It might be due to the device processing a high resolution panel.

unfortunately no stand or dock at the moment from google. but the cases do make it stand. Just get a case that suit your needs.

The stock unrooted firmware doesn't mount usb thumb drives when connected with OTG. The "Nexus Media Importer" app from the play store provides a smooth workaround for that, well worth the 3 or 4 USD I paid for it.

You may wish to consider an Asus TF700. For example, I have the integrated keyboard, an USB non-powered hub, a laser printer (hooked to the USB hub), Bluetooth speaker (powered by the hub), multiple USB hard storage devices (for moving large volumes of data such as movies between devices), a microhd 32 GB card (up to 128 GB possible), in addition to a regular SD card. Shortly I will add an USB ethernet adapter for additional speed when using it at my desk. All of this is with the stock configuration and is well integrated into the tablet experience. The TF700 may not be as fast as the Nexus 10- but I have found the speed very good with the optimal mix of apps. My impression is that the TF700 is a more versatile device if you need multiple storage/connectivity options ala a netbook and find the Android OS suitable for your needs.

When rooted, you can use the free StickMount app.
Some custom roms may mount USB sticks for you automatically, but I haven't experimented with this.
Dontvbe worried about software ... There are very inteligent developers outhere that work for this device . eventualy all the software problems will be resolved . be worried about the problematic hardware side and how to be able to return the product more faster process problems free .

I had problems with Stickmount (can't recall what now). I've been using 'USB OTG Helper' which is a great app. As for how phone apps look: it's not that most of them look bad; they're just not optimized to take advantage of the extra screen real estate. But I'm finding more and more of my favorite apps have a separate tablet version, or install a tablet-optimized one if a tablet is detected.
I also recommend the Moko Slim-Fit leather case (Amazon). Very well made.

The reason why I'm not considering the transformer is because it isn't running stock Android. And I'm not sure how the dev community is for it. Plus it's almost a year old and a new ones coming out soon, I don't know if I can wait.

The Asus Transformer series is comparatively minimalist with regards to Android customization versus other brands- though bloatware is an issue. There is quite a bit of 3rd party developer support. TF Android stock and custom updates have been prompt- though I am encouraged that Asus was cautious with 4.2. Of course, newer models will offer better performance- and where the need is not critical- it might be better to wait. Again, the hybrid market seems to be in rapid transition and the Transformer series is hardly the only option- for example, Windows 8 hybrids from Asus, Lenovo and others. I only made the suggestion because you focused on expandability- not a core strength of the Nexus 10. But the Nexus 10 has a lot of other strengths- though it to will probably have a faster replacement or hardware refresh soon...

Sorry for re-opening an old thread, but it seemed relevant to my situation.
Hi guys, finally decided to take the plunge and shell out for a Nexus 10. This will be my first tablet purchase, so naturally I want it to go as smoothly as possible.
Although a lot of what I've read from purchasers here seem to suggest it's anything but a smooth process with Google. I've terrified myself half to death with some of the stories here. I should probably also mention that I've never had to RMA any device before, but I'm almost fully committed to the fact that I'll have to with this, after all I've read about it.
So. What are the main problems are that people have experienced, which required RMAs and are they still present in the newer batches, seeing as it's almost 6mths old now?
I've looked around these forums for the past half week and found what I believe to be a fairly conclusive list and their possible resolutions. Is there anything else beyond this list I should be watching out for?
RMA for sure
- battery issues - less than 6hrs
- faulty usb/hdmi socket
- constant wifi drop
- speakers buzz
- no sound via hdmi
- crap stuck under screen
- loose to touch/clicky camera lens
- light bleeding (only RMA if excessive)
SOFTWARE UPDATE
- constant restarts with stock rom
BEARABLE WITH CASE
- creaky back cover
Also, is it easier to return to Google or Samsung should I need to RMA?

Damn I'm lucky. Not one problem with my nexus 7 well the wife's now that I went and got a 10. And not a problem with my 10. And I picked my 10 up from a guy on craigslist for 375 for a 32gb.

Well mine just arrived 20 minutes ago. So far none of the issues I've seen around these forums. No creaky back. No creaky camera lens. No crap under the screen. It's on charge at the moment, so I can't check the other things like light bleed etc.
Oh and for reference it's an R32D model if that helps anyone. I'm in the UK too, for anyone questioning if UK is getting new or old stock.

I bought that for my laptop a few days ago, and thought, hey I wonder if I can use that on my tablet as a portable screen for plugging composite/s-video devices (ie my gamecube). It hasn't arrived so I thought I'd ask here.
Is it possible? I think it's either an EasyCap or a clone.

Na, likely won't work as-is. The Nexus 10 itself would need some kind of hardcore kernel/driver modifications to make it happen; or you could bypass the N10 motherboard and go straight to the screen, which would need some kind of crazy hookup.
But pretty much, there's no easy (or known) way to make this happen :/

I found this: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/39717-kernel-module-cm-101-easycap-module/ but it's for Nexus 7. also not sure if it has the same USB ID as mentioned in that thread.. guess I'll see if I can get it to work on my linux laptop first, and then go from there.
edit: it just arrived, and the USB ID is the same [05e1:0408]. I ordered a new OTG cable for my nexus 10, my current one has been unreliable. Well I'm gonna try to get it working with my laptop now.
so I got the video to show up. however, it's not very good quality, and has serious lag. I'm going to try it on windows to see if it fixes the lag.
And... any plans for a windows 8 app for xda?
I would like one as well. These tabs are capable of so much that this is now my sole computer for school work. Audio is super loud, no beats hack needed and it can run ccleaner. How could you guys NOT be on board?
I will request this as well. I just got my Venue 8 Pro and all I can say is WOW! it beats any of my Android tablets hands down. It has become my go to tablet for everything. I'm even starting to like Windows 8.1 I just wish I could install apps to the SD card. Hopefully someone will fix that...

I also have one, great tablet, I would like to see this too..........
I just got one yesterday and I mostly love it but with a few issues:
1. Using the USB port as a charge and device connector through USB OTG. Basically this means you can't use a device AND charge at the same time. No way to make a dock either. The should have at least put pogo pins on the outside of the case or put a Qi charger panel on the battery... Oh.. side complaint: 2A charger needed. So while it uses a USB cable, few PCs will have the chops to charge this thing. Then again, same for my Samsung Note 10.1 and the Apple iPad series.
2. No mini-HDMI, MHL or SlimPort support. You can hang a USB video card on it, but then you can't charge it and those things suck power. So we're talking powered USB hub... Miracast really doesn't cut it. Nothing supports it and external Miracast dongles are not cheap.
3. No GPS. I know this isn't standard on Windows devices, but it's very common on Android devices. Mind you - you should be able to use your phone to provide GPS data (ot to mention internet connections) over Bluetooth, so that's not as bad as it might seem.
4. Screen resolution. Ok - I'm actually of mixed minds on this - I'd like 1920x1200 - but even at 1280x800 the text seems small when you're in desktop mode...
5. Stereo speakers would be nice - but yeah, the one they include is LOUD.
6. 4GB RAM option would have been nice too.
None of these are killers - although 1 comes close. Still, the ability to run Visual Studio and do development on a tablet I can keep in my jacket pocket is really amazing... and even more amazing at $350.
It's not without compromises sure but it is one hell of an amazing tablet I No longer have a pc or laptop, I bought the official Keyboard and a cheap bluetooth mouse and I can work on it as well as play on it

Just got my Dell Venue Pro 8
I just got my Dell Venue Pro 8 and I was so surprised. Wow. I have also an iPad Air and Nexus 7 2013, but this tablet is going to be my favorite for a long time I think. Able to install Spotify, CCleaner, and was surprise by the quality of the windows 8 apps. For ex: FB, Twitter, Foursquare, but also Nook (as epub reader), FitBit, Netflix, OneNote, etc. Excellent surprise.
i am using it as a pc in my studio during the week.
great for surfing, youtube, office work, etc

I have since recovered with from win10 pro and used the onda drivers from their site and everything is working great, in fact it is unbelievably fast compared to my Teclast x98 air II 64gb, in fact most of the benchmarks are over double.
I am looking at picking one of these up, but I do have a couple of questions. How bad is the battery life and how warm does it get? Oh yeah, will it work with iPad Air cases?
And most important, is the OS 32bit or 64bit?
I would say you'll get about 5 hours tops with web browsing on medium screen brightness. Its gets quite a bit warmer than my teclast air x98 II but not burning hot.
Depends on the case, the dimensions are identical apart from its fatter by a few mm (also fatter than the bay trail v919) I have a air keyboard which clips over the front that works ok but I could definitely see some cases being a problem with it.

Is the Windows 10 license locked to that Chinese version, or could you just install Windows 10 over top, like a recovery install and still use the license it came with?
My understanding from reading around is that you can backup the key and reinstall using the single language version of your language and it should activate with that key. I can't confirm that works as I put pro straight on.
A guy on another forum who got one (not from banggood) came with win pro in english but it wasn't activated, not sure if he had any issues if/when he tried.

Received my v919 3G Core M yesterday. bought it off China's biggest online shopping site, Taobao. The specs is amazing and fast!
Like you too, I'm pretty disappointed with the single language win10 installed in it. I immediately wanted to install win10 pro myself but just to be safe, I contacted their online customer service.
they told me not install my own version of win10. I found their firmware from Onda's official site and it's 7GB+ from baidu online storage. (taking me ages to finish the download. still downloading now) i'm sure what version of win10 is it though.
pretty glad i saw your post! just want to clear some doubts before I continue with installing my win10:
1. can you dual boot to your android os after installing your win10?
2. is your 3G working fine?

Mine came single os and tbh I'm not interested in having android on there, I will at some point probably dual boot ubuntu so I can use it as a on the go dev environement.
3G works but is very slow, I've not seen it go above 1mbps up/down my LGg3 is about 4x faster in the same conditions/signal when set to 3g only. Again not something that bothers my as I will just use my phone as a 4G hotspot if needed.
I have a question.
I don't need Android OS. How to remove the Android OS?
Any guide?

Can you tell me some info about the power supply? The specs and the size of the barrel so I can order a second power supply? With only 5 hours of life, I would definitely need another adapter for work..

It seems really nice and slim, pretty cheap, and one of the plugs is bound to fit.
The info about the power adapter is on the power brick. Could you post a nice clear pic of the power brick's label? Thanks.

Its 12v 3A but it doesn't have the plug size.
Cases
Have you found a case for it that works? Also, can you post what Windows reports about the SSD, like what does it say in device manager about the SSD. Very curious if it's upgradable. Where are the teardown videos?

i got the v975w and love it but hoping to upgrade soon and want something similar but without certain gripes.
SD card speeds? the v975w has a few issues with sd card read/write speeds
does it have a dedicated charge connection or does it use USB? the v975w only has 1 micro usb which is used for OTG or charge but cant do both at once. kinda annoying i cant plug my portable HDD in while charging
how many USB?
storage (HDD, EMMC etc) how much and what options?
guessing its just an ipad air case (rip off) like the telcast or my v975w?
i prefer that, getting cases/covers its alot easier

No reason why it wouldn't boot to a desktop I guess, as for what drivers are supported out the box I have no idea, I have a bigger ssd on order so I can dual boot it.
I suspect not everything will work, but I'm pretty hopeful I'll be able to get enough working. Battery life will probably be poor though.

Actually I just tried this for you, I booted the live daily x64 off a usb:
Working:
3G
Sound
MIC
Suspend
Rear Camera, although it is rotated 180 degrees (prob easy fix)
Volume rocker
Brightness
Not working:
Rotate Accelerometer
Touch
Wifi (prob easy fix)
As soon as I have a bigger ssd in this thing I'll do some tinkering, I suspect we can get mostly everything working, its already in kinda of a useable state.

The bottom 3 fixes would probably get everything working as this tablet uses RTL8723B wifi and a goodix touchscreen.
