My Defy+ suffered water damage about 3 months ago.The only problems i had where the lcd and digitizer which i replaced.
The digitezer had a stripe of about 0.5cm on the left side where it wouldn't work.Other than that worked fine until recently, when i started getting Force Close errors on apps and random resets/freezes.
Now:
1) it will not wipe cache or data (even though the process completes visually in recovery menu)
2) i tried flashing new sbf and everytime i get "Error verifying code group XX - checksums mismatch" (where XX is 33 / 32)
3)i cannot install new apps
4)if i unistall an app the next time i reset the phone it is still there , like nothing happened
Basically, it's like my internal memory is in Read Only mode
Could it behardware failure ? Are there any service methods for testing the internal memory for damage ?
Thanks in advance
Unfortunately looks like hardware failure. Try the blank flash option in RSD lite and try a higher group code sbf I.e bl6,7

As said, I would try to flash a BL7.
Besides the BL7 Retail and the Custom ROMs, you'll be stuck with it forever.
You can find a simple guide here:

Flashing sbf is a different thing. Sbf's are flashed through RSDLite by connecting your phone to a pc..
Custom ROM's(flashable zip) are flashed through the phone recovery itself
.. Flashing a zip is a better way of doing it..
Also, while flashing, before doing a wipe, don't forget to make a backup from recovery..

Yes.! You will lose your apps, if your contacts are synchronized with you google account, you can get those back after..but for apps , make backup with Titanium backup or Mybackup root etc. so that you can restore those back..

I need to get my defy back to stuck cause I'm having issues with the camera (it is always getting an error «cannot connect to camera») and I need to have it replace.
I restored nandroid of my original stock rom, removed 2nd init, unroot the device, I even factory reset and format my sd card.
Thing is when I turn the phone on, led blinks blue and if press volume down it goes to but menu, is there any option to remove that as well?
Can't flash full sbf because non of them is the same as my stuck rom and if they notice anything and they always check everything, I won't get the phone replace.
Thank you for helping me

Is there any other way to fix that? because my usb port is broken so I cant flash an sbf :/
In Bootmenu you have a option to remove it. Once you entered the bootmenu on blue led, goto System and choose to uninstall BootMenu.
I've rooted my wifes regular Defy (red lens). She'd like to try CM10 out, which I've been running for the past couple months on my Defy.
She's on stock T-Mobile US ROM and rooted. Installed Defy 2ndInit 2.3, granted it superuser permissions, clicked the install button, and was told "success" (green led was also on).
However, after rebooting her phone, the blue or green led never turns on like it does on my phone.
We've both been running custom ROM's for so long that I've not had to do this in a long time. Updating her from CM7 to CM10 didn't go well so I had to flash an SBF to her phone.
Any idea what I did wrong? Should I just try a different version?

Yah, USB debugging is turned on. In fact, it won't even let you install the recovery if USB debugging isn't enabled.
All you can do is: full wipe and flash stock sbf. use the latest version of 2ndinit. Beyond that I have no ideas
Sent from my MB526 using xda premium
See thats the thing, I already flashed a stock SBF and used the latest version of 2ndinit.
I didn't do a full wipe prior because I was unable to enter custom recovery. Is there an option to do a full wipe in the stock recovery? I don't even recall how to get into it.
To enter stock recovery, press the volume up key while starting and hold. when you see a background hold both volume keys to get the menu for data wipe
IMO I think something is not getting wiped in the flash. You can try a legacy version of 2ndinit too. Select the ti blank flash option in rsdlite. Stock sbf+ data wipe + rooting is sufficient for 2ndinit. It certainly is a queer problem

Will do this tonight and flash the stock sbf again and see if that helps.

OK, just to update you.
I guess I was using Android 2.1 SBF, which you can enter recovery on by touching the bottom-right of the screen.
Anyway, after updating to 2.2 OTA, I was able to get custom recovery installed via 2ndinit. So all is good.
My wife is now running CM10 like me.

if possible, could you share the process you followed with me? I am having a defy eclair MB525 and it's not going to the recovery mode on rebooting. It's stuck on the triangle.

OK, if you want to get to stock recovery and you've already got the little android guy with the triangle on the screen, just touch the bottom right corner of your screen.
That should bring you into stock recovery if you're on eclair.
There's probably an OTA update available for you. To check for that, go to Settings, About Phone, and then Check For Updates (may be worded slightly different). I don't know if vodaphone ever did an update for the Defy though in India. But I suppose they probably did.
i have only four options available.
* Reboot System now
* Apply SDCard:update.zip
* Wipe data/factory reset
* Wipe Cache Partition
last night i tried with all the options and the only thing happened, just got all my data and app wiped. When I reboot the device, i got my eclair back and restored all the data using titanium. Am I doing something wrong here?
In fact, my device is not vodafone dependent. There are no updates available till date. In addition, i was trying to flash it using ICS CM10.

OK, what exactly are you trying to do? Get custom recovery installed via 2ndinit?
I installed the HORSEMAGEDDON ROM and it worked - for the most part. But it kept giving me annoying errors about different apps that were attempting to update every time I turned it on. So I tried to restore my backup that I had made with CWM 6.0.2.8. However the backup apparently did not restore properly because it now boot loops back into CWM any time I try to start it. I get the errors:
E:Can't open cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open cache/recovery/last_log
So I tried to reflash HORSEMAGEDDON but it still loops back into the CWM recovery screen.
I have wiped everything according to the instructions on the HORSEMAGEDDON thread.
HELP!! This happened to me on another U8800-51 phone and I wound up hard bricking it trying to get back to stock.
Anybody???
Does anybody have any ideas on how I can fix this?

Yes. I did a wipe of data and factory reset as well.
What I would do is get an SD card with a custom rom on it and try installing it from recovery menu

Obviously you have been having problems with that rom, so go with something different.

Okay. Here is what I did step by step:
1. I was on Stock 2.2.2 Froyo and flashed HORSEMAGEDDON successfully. But I had some errors related to updates since it was such an old ROM the updates were all for much newer versions of the apps tied to 4.x.x.
2. I attempted to restore my backup made with CWM 6 to return to the stock. It said it completed successfully but when I rebooted it just looped into the recovery screen with the error messages posted in my first post.
3. So I tried to reflash HORSEMAGEDDON and it said it completed successfully. But it still bootloops into recovery.
4. I can access most of the features of the recovery. I can access the pink screen and swap recovery versions. I can access my SD card from my PC when I mount it from recovery.
5. Yes, I did do full wipes with each attempt to reflash.
The ROM was not the problem. It worked and worked well other than update issues for apps. It was only after attempting to restore to stock I ran into issues.
The problem appears to be something was corrupted when I tried to restore my backup, even though it said it completed successfully.
So if I try to flash yet another custom ROM, even if I could find one I trust given all of the version issues etc., I don't think it would act any differently. But if somebody can recommend one I am all ears. Keep in mind I have a -51 phone so it will have to be for that or the PRO.
Given that, how can I get back to stock? Am I the only person who has ever had this problem? I don't believe that is the case, so somebody must know how to fix it or can point me to a procedure to repair the internal memory.

None of the fixes on this link seem to apply to my situation.
When I said "bootloop" I may have misused the term. What happens is I power up, it goes to logo screen for about 10 seconds, shuts down and restarts to logo screen then goes into recovery after about 5 seconds. From other info that I have found it is due to a corrupt bootloader and I need to reflash the bootloader. Problem is, reflashing the bootloader i.e. CWM, does no good at all.
I am also hampered by lack of info specific to the -51 model. And I cannot find a copy of the stock ROM anywhere that is for the -51.
So essentially I am screwed. All of that said, I have found a new phone for $40.00 so all is not lost. It's a U8800 but not the -51 or PRO. I don't plan on customizing it, I'll just stick with stock. After trashing two phones even after following the advice to "BACKUP" I think enough is enough. Backing up did me no good whatsoever in both cases.
In my estimation, the culprit is CWM, or at least the versions I used.
If anybody has any advice I'm all ears.

Help, I downgraded from 2.3 to 2.2 for various reasons, but now when I try to upgrade again I just get the pink screen ,if I try using the option from settings/storage,it says key data couldn't be backed up , the installation will stop. Also if I boot into the system it runs fine for about a minute then locks up completely so I can't even continue to use it in 2.2 can anyone advise ?

Try to put the 2.3 dload folder to a sd card, then remove the battery, plug in a USB cable to the computer and the phone, volume up+down+power (if I remember right lol). See if it will update that way.
no, that's the usual way I've been flashing it, I can get to the image folder ,but it won't boot into recovery either

Odd. Maybe try to flash the ICS pink screen unlocker? I had weird issues at some point too, then I flashed that and the problems went away. Afterwards flash ICS.
Just tried that, still no luck,it doesn't even get to the unpacking screen,it just stays pink. beginning to think its beyond repair

I think it's still possible to fix it. I was loosing hopes too, but I messed around with it anyway and got it working. Just try different dload's, different methods and maybe you'll get it running. Maybe other users will have some ideas too.

Hi there!
I think when you upgrade from software menu there is an option for data back-up.
Uncheck this option and the error should go away.
Also what do you mean with this: "Also if I boot into the system it runs fine for about a minute then locks up" ?
What do you mean it locks up? Touchscreen is not responsive for example?
My suggestions:
1) Do a factory reset and then check if you can upgrade
2) Try re-installing your recovery(use cwm 5.0.27 by geno for best compatibility) or even replace the whole image folder with the froyo one from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2146856
Your phone is not beyond repair that's for sure. Since it boots fine.

I haven't noticed an option for data backup, will check again later on. And yes when it locks up touch screen becomes unresponsive and none of the buttons respond either. Also when I try to enter recovery ,both custom and stock, it displays the kernel logo then vibrates with a black screen for a second then back to kernel logo and continues to boot.

Ok guys,I copied over the stock image folder and now it works ok, however I still can't upgrade from froyo. At least I can use it again though so thanks for your help, its much appreciated. Incidentally, there wasn't an option to back up data when upgrading, but that error has now gone, except it now just reboots instead, so I will just keep trying.
