Nexus S CM10 Stable restart 2-3 times at day - Nexus S General

Hi,
I have a problem, from CM10 nigthly, M1, M2 to CM10 Stable (now) my Nexus S restart 2-3 times per day.
TuneIN + HSPA = phone restart
Apollo playing mp3 = phone restart
After ringing the alarm clock = sometimes restarts
Enable sync after ring alarm clock = sometimes restarts
sometimes not reset within a day or two, is an annoying situation
Any idea ?

Change kernel...
Didn't happen to me
But try matrix cm version . if still... Might be a bad download/flash . or ( hope not) hardware prob .

If your Nexus S is overclocked, stop doing that.

you do know that stock frequency is 100-1000Mhz? mine's a rebooter at 1200Mhz so yours might be too. for kernel try and use the search function.

In the setup menu say 100 - 200 - 400 - 800 - 1000 - 1200 - 1400
im dont use setCPU only the CM setup menu, now im tried al 200 - 1000 for test. thks a lot.

s
this happened to me a lot as well while using marmite kernel, it was the overclocking that make the rom unstable.
hope this works!

I am on the CM 10 stable on the Nexus S for a week now and have not had any reboot issues at all. Everything working smooth. I am using the stock kernel included in the ROM. Replicating your situations also do not cause any issues. My suggestion might be if the issue still persist to download and flash the ROM again and test for a couple of days with the default settings and without flashing any different kernel.

Increase you voltage +25 across the board. Then try to replicate the reboots.

help, frequent WF lockups

Hi, my gf has had her WF for a while and there was always some lockups but maybe like once a week.
Now, things are worse and it's about 2-3 times a day. Everytime she needs to take the battery out.
The phone was running wildpuzzle v0.7 rom, to try to stop the lockups i changed it to cyanogen 6.1 but the problem remained.
The phone was overclocked at 650mhz but the same problems exist even at default 518mhz.
I don't think the overclock was/is the problem, there is an app to test the stability of the phone and i tested for 5h at 710mhz and it was stable so 650 should be very stable. But as i said, even at 518mhz the problem persists.
What else...it's running jacobs overclock kernel...android 2.2.1 obviously.
I'm just hoping this is not a hardware error because we have no warranty, i SIM unlocked the phone...
What should i do? Is there anything i could try? I'm willing to try the official 2.2.1 or even 2.1 but i don't want to loose root, how do i do that without losing root? Really any suggestion would be very helpful.
Thanks
Can I ask wat u mean buy lockup do u freeze n u have to pull battery
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
yes, it just freezes and becomes completely unresponsive, the screen is ON, displaying whatever i was doing in the time of the lockup, and then the battery must go out or it would just sit like that for hours
Had the same problem once too.U or rather ur gf put both the max and min at 600+ didnt u?
When u use SetCPU,remember to set minimum at 245 or so.Should fix the problem

Oh,i forgot, set it in performance mode too and if u use the widget, make sure its in passive

nope, min is 19 accodring to set cpu and max is 650
i will try to change min to 245, BUT...on the wildpuzzle rom i was using the 650mhz overclock kernel, so i didn't even use setcpu or any other program and still there were lockups
and i'll also try overclockwidget, thanks
other than that if everything fails i'll uninstall every overclocking program and run it at stock just to see how it works then
i have removed set cpu and so far no lockups, hmm
Its def a SETCPU problem. I haven't had a single freeze up since replacing it with OverclockWidget
i'll wait for a day or 2 just to confirm that there are no lockups and then i'll try OC widget, thanks to all

[Q] Unable to underclock below 245mhz with cyanogenmod 7.1.0 rc1. unbelieveable!

Yeah. Even when disabling the perflock, it won't let me chance the minimum frequency. ive tried setcpu, cpumaster, cputuner and a bunch of other apps. is there anybody here who's had the same problemo?
my kernel is 2.6.32
before rc1, just two hours ago, i had nightly version 173. i flashed rc1, because obviously i misread that it had a different kernel, 2.6.35. yeah right. im gonna rage soon. the battery drainage is horrible.
plz helps!??!?1one
edit: oh, what would you recon as the best rom for legend? thanks!
Maybe overclock is only on stable version, rc and nightly made for testing other stuff.
I use some mod of blayo rom, no overclock. Works awesome. More then 90 days without flashing or even reboot. Well only feature i need from custom rom is root and wake up on trackboll.

Thanks for replying! actually, the in-built cpumanager works like a charm, and i have been using it clocked to 825mhz. And cyanogen all in all works great, suprisingly nightly version 173 works better than 7.1.0 rc1.
But still, i cant UNDERclock the dang cpu. someone had his legend run with minimum freq at 19 mhz - and had a large impact on the battery life with the setup.
And it worked ok with incoming call?
There is no way to clock this kernel below 245 MHz unless you alter its frequency table and recompile it yourself. May I ask you why do you want to go below 245 MHz?

Bummer. Got no skills for that. I do alot of reading, and the system does not need 245mhz to run a screen with some text on it, i suppose. oh well...
so, your rom can be clocked below 245mhz? would you recommend it for everyday use? thanks!
Yeah, but when you are reading, you have to slide a lot I guess?
My conclusion was (after an extensive testing) that lowering the speed below 245 MHz didn't add much to battery life so I'm actually using just two profiles... one for screen on 245 - 768 MHz and one for screen off 122 - 480 MHz. Scaling governor is interactive in both cases.
If I can recommend my ROM? Dunno. I'm using it since I started it and I'm satisfied with it. I don't need anything else

[TWEAK][Siyah Kernel 4.1.1+][Extweaks] Get up to 7 hours of screen usage

WARNING: Use this settings at your own risk. I am not responsible for what will happen to your phone.
So, Siyah Kernel 4.1.4 has been released, and since 4.1.1 and its new features I have struggled for obtaining maximum battery life without loosing smoothness.
I tested these settings on 5 phones (Galaxy S2 GT-I9100): mine and my friends' ones, and we all got the same (more or less) results: it's awesome!
Screen usage can get up to 7 hours. I did these tests with mobile data on for all phone usage, and not in deep sleep. When I was at home I switched to Wi-fi.
My ROM is AOKP M6 (ICS 4.0.4), other tests were made on Resurrection remix JB, stock XWLPF (ics), CM9 stable (screen usage: about 6 hours, no more), and AOKP JB (latest).
Extweaks settings:
CPU:
GENTLE FAIR SLEEPERS: ON
CPU HOTPLUG: (default)
CFS TWEAKS: Linux kernel defaults
CPU IDLE MODE: AFTR+LPA
SMOOTH SCALING LEVEL: 800 mHz
MAX CPU LOCK: Dual core mode
CPU UNDERVOLTING: - 50mV (if you get freezes, set -25mV)
CPU STEP COUNT: 16 (all available)
GOVERNOR: pegasusq
MAX FREQ: 1200 MHz
MIN FREQ: 200 MHz
GPU:
MALI TOUCH BOOST LEVEL: Step 2/Step 3
GPU STEP 1: 44 MHz
GPU STEP 2: 66 MHz
GPU STEP 3: 100 MHz
GPU STEP 4: 200 MHz
GPU VOLTAGE LEVEL 1, 2 AND 3: 800 mV
GPU VOLTAGE LEVEL 4: 950 mV
THRESHOLDS: default values
AUDIO:
HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER: 0 (set this value as you want and as you ears can stand it, it doesn't affect battery life unless you listen to music)
SCREEN:
TOUCHMOVE SENSITIVITY: 3 pixel
ALL OTHER SETTINGS: default values
mDNIe negative toggle: off
BLN:
BLN: off
NOTIFICATION TIMEOUT: never timeout
BLN EFFECT: set what you want, cause BLN is disabled
LED TIMEOUT: use ROM defaults
LED FADEOUT: on
LEDS ON WITH TOUCH: off
LED VOLTAGE LEVEL: 2700 mV (2750/2800 mV if led lights are dim)
MISC:
ANDROID LOGGER: off
DEFAULT I/O SCHEDULER: cfq/noop
ALL OTHER SETTINGS: default values
I think they are not too aggressive values, but if you get freezes, I recommend you reset your extweaks settings via CWM recovery and then use less aggressive ones.
In the attached screenshots, battery stats analysis starts from 91% since I had to restart my phone, and when it was at 10% I plugged the USB cable in to transfer a .zip file in my SD card, but I don't think that this 15-second charge affected my test (I'm sure it didn't!).
Phone usage was high today, I used Tapatalk, created a new UCCW skin, did some long phone calls, Facebook, messaging, e-mail checking, and other stuff I don't remember since the battery stats don't even report them (lol).
Notice that this is an extreme test. 7 hours of screen usage is not a myth, reality instead, but you cannot get them with the so called 'everyday usage'.
Screenshots of test made on my usual phone usage will come soon

7 hrs screen time with 1200mhz max frequency and stock battery.. how much more if it's set on 800mhz.. 8-9 hours probably on stock batt?
you could have atleast included what you were doing in those 7 hours screen time like browsing, texting, facebook, etc, also the brightness of the screen, battery chart..

MagicConfig was my starting point for GPU voltage levels, how cannot I admit? I always used those frequency steps (first post) but I've never found the right voltages to avoid lags, especially when turning screen on. And I forgot to thank you. I say sorry mate

Try the GetRIL app, it should be able to find the RIL for you.
But if I understand correctly, KH3 is a Modem from the GB firmwares, and you're running and ICS Firmware, the RIL is part of the Firmware and I don't think you can install a GB RIL on ICS... but try the app.

Trinity kernel OTG crash/freese bug

Hi
Sorry cant post in the development thread since i just joined.
Using TS1700-GPUOC-4.1.2-mr1-fr-ALPHA12 with CM10 causes Nexus 7 to Freeze/crash and reboot when you remove a USB pen drive or 2.5 harddrive that is connected with a OTG cable. It happens if you do a dismount from settings/storage or just pull the cable OTG cable out.
Otherwise its a very good kernel for Nexus 7.

I am having this issue since using the Trinity Kernel and like an idiot never once though it was the Kernel. Strange how the units will still turn off even if you just plug and unplug in the OTG cable with nothing plugged into the cable itself. So we think it is the Kernel then?

Yes, 100% certain its kernel related.
When you run CM10 updater from inside CM10 and a new nightly build gets installed it removes Trinity kernel and install the default CM10 kernel and that makes the problem go away.
After you flash Trinity kernel back you get the freeze and crash/reboot issue again.
If you use this Kernel, please contact morfic. check his site below for email and other contact information.

Thank you Cazrack. I will email him now, I can imagine he will be inundated with emails
Another two quick questions "sorry" with Trinity, do you use setcpu to overclock or do you find the kernel gives you all the speed you need? secondly have you had the issue of the unit turning off on an overnight charge? I do not do this normally but I fell asleep with it plugged in and found in the morning it was turned off, when I turned it on it was at 100% so thought is might have turned off as a safety feature but just wondering if you experienced this or heard of it happening?
Thank you again for you help.
The same thing happens to me with the Trinity kernel but it also happens with LeanKernel for 4.2. It did not happen with LeanKernel for 4.1.2, so I don't think it is just a kernel only issue. It doesn't happen on the stock kernel, M-Kernel+, or Franco r30.

I keep the stock clock speed 1.3 ghz but I use setcpu to set certain programs to scale to 1.7 ghz.
For example webbrowsers benefit from 1.7 ghz in faster loading and smoothness.
overclocking for games i prefer to run cpu stock and have my gpu overclocked to 600 mhz.
stock gpu is 416 or 418 mhz.
cant overc to much during long gaming sessions since it get to hot and gpu oc give more than cpu.
when i used franco kernel r25 the power off thing happend to me too.
only 1 night during charging but i flashed a new kernel after that.

Ah I see I have done the same it works very well. However you mentioned overclocking the gpu to 600mhz how is this achieved? its not an option in setcpu, suppose the programe is called setgpu

yes you can OC the gpu for better gaming fps on some kernels.
for example Trinity kernel and Franco kernel allow this if you use franco.kernel.updater from google play store.
i have tested 700 mhz but but during long gaming sessions with games pushing the gpu hardware like spiderman it just get to hot.
484 and 520 mhz is considerd very safe from the information i gatherd.
600 should work even for longer gaming sessions but the device will be warmer.
650 i will test this but im sceptical about long gaming sessions.
750 some crazy people run this....
at the moment im using cpu gov ondemand in setcpu with value 50 in cpu scaling.
have you tried the elite kernel? 1.8 ghz cpu 650 mhz gpu..

The elite was going to be my next kernel... only reason for using Trinity was, I was advised to do so as a first try. It might be the next step to get rid of the OTG restart and of course the 650 mhz gpu stock oc. Have you tried it or going to try it?

prehaps reflash elite when you have updated to a 100% cm10 nightly installed.

Suppose we best keep on keeping and seeing if the smart devas can release a fix.

i9023 OC Voltages

Hi all,
I tried lots of combinations to OC my i9023, without any results.
I currently have CM10.1 Nighly + Marmite 7.3.1, which actually seems to be the fastest combination for me.
Btw, if I try to OC to 1096 or 1320 it starts rebooting.
Everyone said me to raise voltage.
I'm using NSTools and it appears that Marmite 7.3.1 already has higher voltage for 1096Mhz and 1320Mhz.
Furthermore, there are two settings: ARM Voltage and Interal Voltage. Should I increase both of them?
Are there other people with 9023 which overclocked it succesfully? If yes, with which tool and voltage settings?
Thank you
I have my i9023 Nexus s OC to 1512Mhz STABLE.. no random reboots or something.. my battery goes easily one day even with lots of gaming.. I use NSTools.. (my snapshots are from SetCPU.. ;p )

With that voltage @1500 you will probably burn the cpu fast...i think. Maybe someone with better knowledge can advise you. But i wouldn't keep such a high voltage on my phone

It really seems too much high...
Btw, which ROM and Kernel are you using?

Which ROM and Which Kernel?

Hi all,
I tried lots of combinations to OC my i9023, without any results.
Thank you

On marmite i've never been stable on OCs, even with raised voltages. On matr1x kernel you can do 1320mhz without raising voltages.

I am using Hellybean (the latest 26/2/13) and my kernel is Devils's kernel NOT the latest but the 21/12/12 release.. this kernel is my favorite.. try it out.. works on 4.1.x, 4.2.x.

I really don't care about burning my cpu. I have my photos backed up with dropbox.. and I'm on contract with my carrier so I will get it fixed within a week..
Is there an official thread/page for Hellybean and for the kernel?

There is a thread on XDA for the ROM Here.. For the kernel there is also a thread on XDA Here, but I don't think that you will find that specific version, just download it from my attachment above..

I have tried it and set it at 1320 (with LIVE OC 110%) and it seems stable.
Why do you suggest that particular version? Have you tried new versions and they are not stable?

I have tried all the new Devil kernels and they are stable for every day use but not as fast and battery save as the older version.. This is my opinion.. I have my nexus clocked at 1400Mhz and then apply 108% LiveOC witch took me to 1512.. Stable..! (at max arm volt 1500 mV)
