You don't need a kernel to flash the latest quarx build, the kernel is already included in the rom. So do a Clean Wipe. And then flash Rom, gapps and fixes. good to go

It's the same method to install CM7.
Make sure you delete (and backup) data and cache, and then just download and flash the stable CM7 first, before the nightly builds.
The only requirement is to make sure you clear data.
Thank you so much .. and could you please tell me what kernel do I have? Newbie here

No.
Gingerbread kernel won't work on JellyBean and visa versa.
Just do a full wipe if you want to go backwards!
Yes, you have right. ROM automatically flash the kernel from Desire. Thank you

tried that one, however when i load it my phone boots with a white screen. and not really sure what direction to go in to troubleshoot, as i have tried reflashing kernel and rom with system mounted/unmounted, from external sd.
i'm running pacman 6/16 rom with crossbreeder, twrp 2.5, and unlocked blootloader.

For android 4.2.2 (cm 10.1.x) you're going to need faux version 16 or below. Also you can use the app faux enhancement project to download the latest compatible kernel.

I do this simple by flashing cm7.2 by TWRP (after factory wipe).
