[Q] Stuttering when connected to speakers through aux - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been having a lot of trouble lately with this issue and it's now really annoying...
Here's the thing:
So I turn on Google Play Music, start a song... No problems whatsoever
But then, I connect the Nexus 7 (Headphone jack) <--------> iHome speakers (line-in) with a typical auxiliary cable (actually I've used three different brands) and everything just f*&s up...
I mean...
1) The screen freezes for a few seconds
2) Touchscreen just goes CRAZY, when I press one "button" it senses another one... For example: I press NEXT and it "thinks" I pressed the MENU+GMAIL and then INBOX....when only have finely pressed a small portion of the screen. It drives me nuts.
The funny thing is.... IT SOLVES BY DISCONNECTING THE AUX CABLE!!
C'mon! It's not as it has the best speakers in the world, and I use it in my officenfor background music so I'd really like to figure it out.
Anyone else with this issue?

[Q] Odd music player problem

My wife's car radio has an auxiliary input we use to listen to audio from various devices, it works great for turn by turn, music or whatever from our phones. I don't have such an option in my vehicle but i do have in dash cd and cassette. Today i grabbed a cheap 3.5mm to cassette adapter from an auto parts store to get similar functionality in my vehicle. Every thing works as expected, except the HTC music player (the one you access from the home tabs).
When I play music through the player i hear about 1 sec of audio and then my phone restarts!. This does not happen with headphones or in my wifes car when plugged into the auxiliary input. This does not happen using TCPMP, Windows media player, bing, or talking on the phone. It only occurs using the htc player.
Just curious what could be causing this?
Tmous HTC HD2
Cookie Energy ROM
Radio 2.10.50.26
its probably getting a power spike back up the cable which is tripping out the phone.
On a pc, you can quite often cause the whole thing to lock up by pulling out the speaker jack if you have powered speakers.
No suggestions for a fix tho, sorry.

thanks for responding and I agree, although I didn't have a problem plugging into my pc mic or input. But wouldn't it happen in other players/apps too? And would plugging in the phone then inserting the cassette or vice-versa make a difference? Not really a big deal, as i won't be using the setup often, just got me thinking...
heh, who knows the whys and wherefores of these types of bugs, , try plugging it all together with the phone off, then power on last, see if it makes a difference, , just for testing purposes, see what happens.
Phones like this can be more sensitive to that type of thing in general (and PC's too), especially with regards to audio jacks. My suggestion would be to try a better quality cassette adapter. I suspect too that even if the one you have now didn't cause this problem, the audio played through it would have a noticible hum or hiss in the background.

Headphone issue

I recently picked up my Iconia and I'm loving it so far. I have run into an issue with the headphone jack, however. When I plug in headphones the tab detects them. It switches off output to the esternal speakers and shows a little headset icon in the system tray.
When I remove the headphone plug from the jack I expect the tab to detect the change and re-route sound to the external speakers (while also removing the headset indicator for the system tray). It does not. I have to restart the tab in order to get sound to the external speakers.
Does anyone else have this problem (search turned up no helpful results)? Is there something obvious that I'm missing?
Thanks for the help.

I definitely don't see that here, however it will pause your music software when you unplug the headphones, by design.

I have had this happen. I just plugged it back in and then unplugged it again and it worked fine. No need to reboot it, but I did notice this myself and was thinking that the jack connector is not picking up the release. This would be an easy fix, but one would have to open up the tablet to get to the jack lol.
So for now I am unplugging it straight out instead of a slight bend out. If it sticks, just plug it back in and unplug it again, it will pick it up. However I think that this jack issue is a quality issue that might become serious down the road. My opinion is the same for rocker switches (volume control) as I have seen rocker switches give out very quickly, so I am not a fan of anything that has a rocker switch. But, as these things are good for about a year, might as well hope for the best as next year we will dump these for the next newest thing out there. I don't think these are meant to go for years at a time. Just my .02 cents worth.

Same over here. Had this problem once or twice. Just plug your headset back in, and out again. That fixed it for me.
Thanks for the replies.
same problem here. quite annoying when I unplug the headphone and don't notice until i am away from the headphones....
I have had an issue where I plug in my headphones but sound to the speakers is NOT cut off sometimes. This can be embarrasing if you are on a bus with headphones on thinking that you are quietly watching a movie when in fact everyone around you is being treated to the audio from the love scene from Mad Men that you are watching.

hd2 3,5 jack problem

Hi guys, i have an hd2 with nand android, and i have a problem when i plug in the aux cable or earphones: the phone during the play of a track sometimes changes automatically the song or it restart the song a lot of time without that i touch the phone. I already had the plug in problem too when i had wm 6.5 on the phone, but the problem were not the "music shuffling", but the problem were that the phone autodialed the last number called by me.
Someone has the same issue? Any solutions?
I've had audio jack problems as well.
I use a mp3 player from the Android Market called Tiny Player.
Occasionally while playing songs in Tiny Player through headphones or an FM transmitter, the Android music player will start up and begin playing a random song while Tiny Player is still playing.
It must be something about the way that the audio jack is designed to work with the HTC headphones that have the in-line mic built into them for calling. Some regular headphones must be causing a connection to be made which makes the phone think that a button on the HTC headphones has been pressed.
I can usually solve this problem by unplugging and re-plugging the headphones, or turning the plugh in the jack a little bit.
this has come up fairly often over the yrs, to a greater or lesser extent. I have a pair of senheissers which do exactly what you describe, but only on winmo roms. My other phones (tested four or five pairs, cheap and expensive) all work fine. the senheissers work fine on wp7 and android.
Odly enough two (that i can think of) other threads like this also mentioned senheisers, , , what you using, OP?
@samsamuel: i'm using android MIUI.
@huggs: sometimes i do like you, i unplug and replug the cable to solve the problem, but i want to permanently solve this problem, even at the cost of replacing the input jack, you say that it solves?
Its also worth removing the battery and then looking into the jack to see it there is any debris in there, remove with a pin
Same problem, except my Android powered HD2 also likes to randomly dial the last person I talked to when I have the headphones connected. These are the original HTC phones that came with the device. Today it managed to leave my boss eight voicemails. Nice. Fortunately, my boss has a sense of humor and it'll probably be OK. What can I do to prevent this from happening again?
I have a problem with 3.5 mm jack. When I turn on the headset, the phone restarts. And the problem is not with all handsets
I think I found a fix for misbehaving headphones:

If anyone has used this please comment.
@imrazor : Thank you very much, I'm using it for two days and since I installed it I've had no problems.

Problems with nexus 6p when listening to music

Hey guys
I just registered because I experienced some problems with my recently bought nexus 6p. I really like this phone but as soon as I start listening to music using headphones the bugs are invading my phone since I didn't find anything on Google I start this thread.
But let's get to my problem:
I plug in my headphones and start playing music (using blackplayer and Google music). When the screen is turned on the volume turns down itself (I can see the volume bar going down to zero like I'm pressing the button). Also sometimes the powerbutton stops working and I have to restart my phone long pressing the power button.
But also when the screen is turned out I experience some problems. One of the most annoying ones is that music stops and starts randomly (but only when headphones are plugged in!!!). The other bug is music stopping, display turns on and some female voice tells me "Bitte warten! (please wait)" and the screen is gray saying "initializing".
Has someone experienced similar problems? What could help? If you guys need any more information just tell me
I have none of these problems. Have you tried a different set of headphones?
Change your headphones or ensure that they're set up properly. I'm guessing they're wired.
I'm also running into this same issue. I have the latest updates on my phone. This happens about 25 minutes in to listening to media. I've heard that disabling "OK Google detection" fixes it. This hasn't worked for me.
Sounds like wired headphones with a faulty connection to the phones, or faulty buttons on the headphones. I have seen similar behavior with just a wired connection to an AUX Input. The connection on the wire was faulty and due to changing resistance, it looked to the phone like headphone buttons were being pressed. Could also be a fault at the headphone jack on the phone, but it was not in my case. Definitely try other headphones to help narrow down the issue.

Is bluetooth really this bad on the phone?

I run with my phone in a running pouch and it is positioned in the small of my back and when it is there, bluetooth stutters and struggles to keep a signal at times. To make it work I have to either position it in the front or in my hand. I didn't have this issue with either the Nexus 6 or even the Fire Phone. Does anyone else have similar issues?
I do. If my phone is in my pocket, or my daughter is using it in the back seat of my car it stutters constantly. When I run if I don't have it on the arm nearest the BT receiver of the headphones it stutters. BT is supposed to be good for a decent range depending on the version, but I have to keep my N6P ridiculously close to whatever its connected to.
Mine works fine with no stutter for me in either phone or music. I use it up to about about 25 feet. This is when connected to my car.
I notice this also. I came from a Nexus 6 where I used my Wireless headphones and always kept a good connection at long ranges.
But on the Nexus 6p when using the same headphones I can't move that far from the phone before it starts to cut out.
Also been terrible for me, 6.0.1 had stuttering. 7.0 has caused a very annoying bug where the music plays at full volume until you press up or down on the volume buttons of the phone. My car's bluetooth adapter will clip any audio going through it when playing at full blast, very annoying having to always juggle the source volume when starting a song.
My power beats 2... Cut out when phone is in right trouser pocket. I notice it now I walk around the city with no suit jacket. Been talking to beats, they want me to post them off... Wait 2 weeks. Forget that I know it's the phone....
Radio for Bluetooth is obviously on the other side of my body, I could put phone in my left pocket but I am right handed. (Bluetooth on headphones must be on my left)
