[Q] Nexus 7 root + playstore - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
earlier in the summer I rooted by Nexus 7 using Wugs nexus tool kit (1.5.2). It worked a treat and even allowed me to edit my playstore location using an app..which i've forgotten the name of. It allowed me to specify vodafone (UK) or O2 (UK) etc and allowed me access to apps I wouldn't normally see due to my location.
So, I'm on 4.2 now and used Wugs toolkit 1.5.5 to root 4.2...but cannot in anyway find the store changer. Anyone got any ideas what this was?
Thanks
Baron

How to remove root (un-root) device without clearing apps and data?

I have an app that refuses to run because my Nexus 7 is rooted. So I would like to remove root and keep this app installed.

Not tried it my self but on SuperSU Play description it says that if you uninstall it, you will lose root:
NOTICE: A SPECIAL PROCEDURE IS NEEDED FOR UNINSTALLATION. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE APP, DO *NOT* JUST UNINSTALL IT, YOU *WILL* LOSE ROOT.
I would guess that if you have Super User installed, it would do the same thing.
I tried the "temp unroot" function of the superuser app and the app still recognized the root and refused to run.
I will try un-installing superuser now. Thanks for the idea, I will report back.

Some applications I believe look for the superuser application by name. So if it sees "superuser.apk" on the system it won't run. However, I know some in the past were able to be worked around by renaming the superuser application.
I don't know if this is still a valid method, but...yeah.

Try an app called OTA Root Keeper (voodoo). It will temp unroot. You then need to normally force close the app you are talking about and the run it and it should work.
When you are done if you use a lot of root apps you can the undo the temp unroot and be back to full root.
Some versions of su have that ability now too but I've not tried them yet... don't really have anything that cares if I am rooted any more.

I've tried using the temp-unroot feature of the superuser app and I was not able to do so. I wish I knew what this app was looking for.

Download supermanager from playstore, enable the root function in settings. Swipe over to tge next screen and select uninstall apps and uninstall superuser. Then reboot. That should do ut.

What app is it?
Sent from my Nexus 7
The app is called Jeppesen Mobile TC and you will only be able to download it if you have a 9-10 inch tab with honeycomb or ICS running. I managed to get the apk so if someone wants it to try please let me know.
I will try the above shortly. Many thanks!

I just tried this and it seems to have removed root like you said yet the application still thinks I have root. I un-installed the app and reinstalled it after rebooting.
The app runs fine on my gfs Nexus 7 which has never been rooted.
Hmmmmm

can't install FLASH on 4.1.1 ?

Just bought our 2 nexus 7 tablets today....We want to root them but haven't yet. I was trying to update the FLASH to the latest as one of my websites and one game wanted me to do that. I was taken to the google paly and there was a message that the lastest FLASH can NOT be installed on this device and I read that it is NOT support for OS over Ice Cream 4.0? Can some one tell me what I can do? Do I have to root to do this?
Thanks

No, you don't have to root to install flash. You have to download the apk and install it, that's all.

I did root my nexus 7 and I did install flash by sideloading...but I get a blue box sometimes and other times I get the message that I need to upgrade flash...I used Dolphin HD browser on the nextus and chrome and the same thing happens in both.
Somewhere I read something about renaming two files...don't remember where I read that or what two file. I do know I didn't do it because 1. I wasn't able at the time to find the files 2. it didn't say what to rename them????
Any suggestions on what I have to do...my nexus 7 is now updated to 4.1.2
Thanks
Tried this doesn't work either...

Anybody able to run Scrabble on their N4 ?

No matter what ROM I install, I get a "device not compatible "
Anyways around this ?
If anyone can try to see if it works on their device and share with me the ROM they are using.
Thanks

I was able to sideload a copy of the APK from my Nexus 7. But it really doesn't seem to like Jelly Bean. I'm running stock rooted 4.2.2 on both devices and there are all sorts of bugs with typing and keyboard entry.

Yeah I've found a few different .apk of scrabble online , and was even able to install them , but the results were not too pleasant.
It was like the same screen but much smaller times 8 all over my screen.
Just wondering if it even runs on stock ROM without root
