For those having problems with rooting NST on FW 1.2.0
Mirror of fw 1.1.2

The update file is a zip. There is no need to unzip it unless you are a developer and need to look at the contents or patch it. But there shouldn't be a password on the zip. I just downloaded it from the above link to the official site (su.barnesandnoble.com) and its a zip with no password as it should be. Perhaps your download was corrupted.
Cannot downgrade
Hi, I have also Nook Touch with FW 1.2.1 but I'm not sure how to downgrade. Is there different method from upgrading (copy zip file with fw to nook root directory and uplug)?

Use 'Clockwork' image to downgrade to FW 1.1
https://code.google.com/p/nst-recovery/downloads/list
steps:
1. burn 'sd_2gb_clockwork-rc2.zip' to microSD.
2. place 'nook_1_1_update_cwm.zip' in root directory of MicroSD.
3. boot CWR
4. "update" from .zip

If your nook came with 1.1 or 1.0 you could use factory.zip recovery and then update to 1.1.2 I used the RootManager Graphical Rooter to recover to factory. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040351

Not yet. We have to wait and see.
By the way, how about a "call for dev" to the people who rooted A500 in the first place?
Not yet, but could use some help
I captured the update.zip and rooted it but can't get it to run. I'm not sure if it only works if the manufacturer signs the update.zip because I can only sign with a test certificate, trying to get this resolved.
I have to get these Iconia 500 rooted as it is fubar'ng our fleet. We root and install a sales/inventory/delivery system in /system/app and then un-root. Therefore employees can reset them all they want and not have to set them back up and they can wipe them clean of personal data when they leave the company without fubaring the company application. Deploying via the market place cannot be done (we only want employees using the app) and using 'unknown sources' isn't a solution. Plus, most of our employees easily wipe them clean all the time as they play around and learn them. Having the application in /system/app solves every one of these issues. The ACER's update nukes everything is system. Why would they not just modify their applications and leave mine alone?
Thanks to ACER, these folks just deleted out all of our applications and data because all the employees said 'yes/ok' to the update. Now who won't do that?
So, I've got several here for testing and welcome anyone's ideas because they are junk or I will have to flash them back to 3.1 and remove the ability to do updates.
Thanks

EDIT: changed to second set of four files (5-8)!
First 4 files on that page are a rared version of stock 3.2.
Open rar1 and it will unrar all 4. Flash the tablets with it, but I'm not sure you can unroot it afterwards?
CWM - Not loadable is it?
This uses the clockwork recovery doesn't it? You cannot load the CWM unless your have root??? What I really need is to be able to use the stock recovery.
So how do you use CWM without out rooting? Sort of a catch 22?
Now I could download to 3.1 and then install CWM and then apply the update using the modified CWM, but that sort of is a long way around isn't it?

From a post by eglathangion on the Developer’s Board:
Googling and surfing around the 'net, I found this repository.
Go to code.google.com/p/acer-a500/downloads/list
The latest filelist shows:
CWM_Root_Acer_A500_7.006.03_COM_GEN1.part1.rar
CWM_Root_Acer_A500_7.006.03_COM_GEN1.part2.rar
CWM_Root_Acer_A500_7.006.03_COM_GEN1.part3.rar
CWM_Root_Acer_A500_7.006.03_COM_GEN1.part4.rar
My remarks on what I did when tried this out and it worked!
1.I downloaded the (4) files, extracted them to a new folder as .zip files.
2.Copied to my ext-sdcard in a folder
3. After the (4) files were installed as described above, I then booted into Recovery and installed each one individually. After each file I DID NOT "Reboot system now", but rather chose to install the next .zip until all (4) were installed.
4. Rebooted system. All my apps were still there. The only things I did have to do is root with Iconia Root app, install Superuser and set up my e-mail accounts again. When I ran an app that required root access, I simply had to allow access with Superuser.
Everything else was there as it was before the install and everything is working great. ! Did this 3 days ago and no issues!
so, can i download these 4 files, extract into the 1 large file, put on my ext-sd renamed as update.zip and flash from clockwork?

are you sure you are on the stock 3.2 recovery??
because as far as i know and correct me if im wrong, the 3.2 stock recovery does not give you the ability to chose which file you wish to flash. it just flashes the file "update.zip" file..
Also , just for clarification. If i do as previously mentioned to install this, will I still have clockwork recovery or will it flash he new Acer stock recovery?

DO NOT listen to this post (1 post wonder).
First off those four files are rar files that once you begin the extraction, will extract themselves into one large file. There is no way to flash those four files seperately.
Second, root and su are included in that ROM, so no need to root (as indicated in the title of the files).
Please don't Brick your device by listening to these directions!

flying_pigs, if you've updated, please, do the following:
1, Flash CWM or Rogue recovery
2, Reboot to recovery
3, Select Backup, Advanced Backup, and only do a backup of system!
4, Upload this backup image somewhere, and post the link
Problem is, many of us can't apply the patch for some reason. This would help it!

I got a TW TF101, how do I use the file?
My build Number is:
HTK75.TW_epad-8.6.5.13-20110925,
FOTA does not work for me.. says no update for me with my current IP (eu) :-/
Do I need 8.6.5.21 before this update?
So my lovely TF101 is not rooted (and so there's also no CWM etc.).
But I think there is a way to install it manually, isn't it? Something like renaming the file, transferring it to a SD card... Or am mixing something up? Then I'll probably have to wait the 7 days until it is supposed to be here in Germany (I really wonder why it should take that long...)

Simple way, download "Acer Recovery Installer" from market, run it and you are 2 click away...this is an old version of the recovery, but from there you can easilly install other versions.

Ok I rooted my Nook color about 1 year ago and used it just for a few months. Well I recently turned it back on and went to update my current rom by using ROM Manager app. If I go to my google play website it say I have Phiremod for Nook.
Ok so when I press the power button, it loads a CyanogenMod and either loading... or loading boot mode... and then will turn to a black light screen
What do I need to do to fix this, I am tired of googling it lol Thanks

Do you have the zip on the CWM sd? And don't use 'install update'. Use install from SD or something like that where the next dialog is picking the zip to install.
Edit: And if you are already doing all of that you might want to toggle verification or asserts. And you are sure the zip is a good one? Did you try looking at it on your PC?

Do I need to name the folder as something?
Also after I extract the file into a new folder, do I just drag and drop the file on to the sd card?
Any other info is appreciated! Thanks
I'm pretty sure that if you have the 1.4.1 stock zip, you just install that using CWM and it will give you a stock Nook; you shouldn't have to unzip anything. If that's not working try the instructions here to get back to stock
You don't extract a rom zip. Place it on sdcard and then select it from recovery

That link starts with a CM7 load, restores it to Nook version 1.3 and upgrades *that* to 1.4. Seems to me you could start at the part where he is upgrading the 1.3 to 1.4 and go from there.
My Nook Simple Touch is on firmware 1.2 and has been rooted with NookManager. I downloaded the 1.2.1 update zip from the B&N website & copied it to the root directory of my Nook and have been patiently waiting for it to install for a week. Is there a way to force the upgrade or use CWM or NookManager to do it?
Did you try powering down/up your Nook?
CWM Recovery can install it too.
If you are using the original file, you might have to "toggle signatures".
I just strip off the first 0x1a3, 419 (dec) bytes off the file.
A standard zip file has "PK" as the first two bytes.
Something in the rooting process prevents the update from getting applied. The update will wipe out your root and system mods anyway so it might be easiest to recover back to stock, apply the update and reroot. If you back up your apps with Titanium Backup you can restore them afterward and its a pretty painless process.

The update will wipe out your root and system mods anyway so it might be easiest to recover back to stock, apply the update and reroot. If you back up your apps with Titanium Backup you can restore them afterward and its a pretty painless process.

Thanks, all sorted now
Op: just wondering why would you want to apply the update. What are the benefits? My nook is rooted w nookmanager and I'm quite happy the update fails ever time it tries.

Did you try powering down/up your Nook?
CWM Recovery can install it too.
If you are using the original file, you might have to "toggle signatures".
I just strip off the first 0x1a3, 419 (dec) bytes off the file.
A standard zip file has "PK" as the first two bytes.

Thanks! This worked, although stripping off the first few bytes was a bit too complicated for me.. I just unzipped and then re-zipped the files and then flashed that.
I would need a little help how exactly it worked. I'm in the same situation. I rooted with 1.2 with Nookmanager. Multitouch, Fastmode and NoRefresh and ezPDF are working fine, and I want to keep it that way.
How can I upgrade to 1.2.1. without going through the whole process again ? I have a Nookmanager SD with my backup and a separate CWM 2GB SD that I used to install the OC kernel for 174 and 166 earlier on. Also, of course I have the 1.2.1 update from B&N.
I guess I can install that zip with CWM, but how exactly ? I don't want to break my root if possible. I have already tried to go back to factory.zip with Nookmanager, then update to 1.2.1, but after restoring my Nookmanager backup I was back to 1.2
Thanks for help !

That actually worked..!
419 bytes stripped from the front, leaving the firmware zip file starting with "PK".
(I was wondering why I couldn't open it using the Windows explorer - it was because of the 419 bytes of the signature).
Thank you very much.
If you're in UK, the USA version download won't flash if you're rooted.

UK:

other countries should goto support for their country at:

If you're rooted take out the bytes (roughly about a paragraph) as Renate said before PK and save using a hex editor. Or unzip and zip as mentioned.
frhed free hex editor:

If you're rooted , flash with CWM as just copying to your nook root might just get deleted, CWM:

In case anyone is struggling to apply the update, make sure you've put it in the *root* of the *NOOK* 'drive' when connected by USB I didn't read the instructions properly and put it in the root of the SD! Obviously, nothing happened for a fair while until I realised my error...
