[Q] Slow 720p videos? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The first time I played a 720p mp4 video, it played just fine. But from the second time onwards the video is much slower, to the point where it's unwatchable. I tried both Dice player and the default video player but there is the issue on both. Has this happened to anyone else and can anyone recommend a fix? Thanks.

Please post in the appropriate section next time

I've played a 720p video a few times. I found mx player to play it smoothly for me.

720P MKV on GS?

Has anybody tried to test it yet?

i tried play smoothly but no audio output
i got audio on my 720p clips.. and they look awesome by the way
-TB-
It depends on audio coding, from what i tested, about everything is supported except for OGG.
80% of my media collection works flawlessly on the SGS, videos look awesome.
Still haven't met a 720p file I've downloaded that didn't play flawlessly

Curiously every episode of a tv show by ctu displays no video, just sound. Everything else plays just fine. Anyone else noticed that?

Hi. I also used other players. Some, like rockplayer play the ctu videos but with such a low framerate as to be unwatchable. Maybe it's a codecs problem? Has anyone found a video player capable of playing everything?
Flawless on mine too

Mine plays 720 MKV file withaudio only and Rockplayer plays file with video but some smearing and audio out of sync.
The Samsung sample files that are avi 720 not MKV play really good.

Have you tried ctu tv shows?
Ctu releases are definately not working. But Dimension releases do.

Some will be DD, MP3, AAC, etc, it'll all depend on the codec, check it with TSMuxeR, it'll tell you what format it's in.
Also, my MKVs have all played fine, v good quality, audio is fantastic too. Even though the screen isn't a 720 screen, thus kinda pointless, it looks great. Damn sight easier than re-encoding them for the correct resolution at least

Gotta disagree on the "pointless" comment. You point out a major plus, re-encoding. Other purpose, video-output, I want to be able to serve my 720P content to computers and TVs, I would suffer a worse resolution or have to keep two files for each movie/video I *might* want to serve. 720P playback is a near God-send (IMHO).
The problem is with videos like ctu releases with 448 kbps audio. I've already sent an email to samsung to report the problem.

The thing it's that this ctu videos worked flawless on Samsung Wave.I hope this will be fixed in future firmwares.

What video problems?

I just installed cm9 nightly and all videos play through the mx video player app.YouTube stuff play fine too. Was there ever a video problem.?

Well, in my case I don't have any issues with the YouTube app playing videos, but using MoboPlayer it's hit and miss and tends to FC on ocassions, I believe this must be due to the lack of HWA, so maybe the videos you have played do not rely on it so much.

Video player?

Hey guys, any idea about a good video player , which one should I chose ?

I'm using MX Player, it's perfect!
> if your on ICS.. and you only play videos on your local storage.. use MOBO player.. better soft decoding playback than Mx.. hd videos plays no lag... but if you use youtube.. Mx is will be appropriate.

^+1
I recommend MX player with ARMv6 VFP codec.. you will find both in play store!!
Dude, practically it is impossible to play any hd video on ics on our device.
So don't confused on video players choice.
The main problem in ROM;not in lg p500.

Devs have already tried a lot to hack omx and got partial success, that's why we are able to play videos on ICS!
If in future there would be any full hack, we'll get to know

MX
The mx player is perfect for lg p500,other option for u might be moboplayer both with arm6 codec.
I've been using mx player for the last year and there has NEVER been a bug or problem and plays every format.

MX player is the best. the new update brings a new feature h/w+ which works on p500 and makes it the best video player

encode video to nexus 7

hey
i was looking for a program to convert my videos so i can watch them optimally on the nexus 7
any suggestions?
thanks
Ariel
I don't think you need to re-encode your videos. Personally, I just use MX player. It supports almost all video formats. You can download the app for free on the Play Store.
+1 for MX Player.
Can't say I've found a video it won't play tbh.

Bs player works better for me. Mx sometimes degrades picture quality.

+1 for MX player. So far plays anything I've thrown at it.
1080p Anime MXV files no problem.
Only files I have had problems with were ones that were poorly encoded.

Nexus 4 Video playback is pixelated

ive recently realised that when i play videos on my nexus 4 majority of the video is pixelated. which makes any movie or anyting completely useless to watch.
at first i thought maybe its the video file. so I tried it on my Xperia T, but it was fine no pixelation whatsoever. I tried it on my pc, no pixelation. I tried it on my ps3 and ps vita again no pixelation. Also BTW its not just a specific video file, anything i try to watch on the nexus 4 goes pixelated through majority of the video.
Then I thought that maybe its the media player that im using on the phone. it wasn't. i tried MX player, vlc for andriod, ES player and even the default video player. same thing on all of them; it pixelates in exactly the same places.
something that i also noticed is that on MX player when i play the video it doesn't play using the HW decoder only HW+ and SW, which is even more mind boggling because on my Xperia T it plays fine on HW.
can someone please help me with this. i would like to avoid factory resetting the phone if possible but if all else fails i may have to do it.
any help is appreciated.
THANKS
