Sadly, since I'm a new user I can't post this in the Nexus 7 Android Development forum so I'm posting it here.
Simply, what version of Gapps should I be using with Paranoid Android 2.99 Beta 3? Whenever I install the ROM with the latest version of Gapps available on their site it will boot but go into a "crash loop" as Gapps attempts to set up my Nexus 7.
If I install the ROM without Gapps it boots just fine. However, I don't have access to Play Store, etc...
Please point me in the direction of the proper version of Gapps.

The package you install is for JB. For 4.2 you need the new one or you will get boot loop. Google it.

That confused the hell. Out of many ppl
Its been posted multiple times in the PA thread as of late.

is there a way to delete some of the useless gapps before flashing? I just want maps and google playstore.
Hello there, just wanted to clarify - when I upgrade to a newer version of PA, I reckon it is also necessary to update the gapps, right? If so, when dirty flashing, should I just wipe the cache and install proper version of the gapps after flashing the ROM or is factory reset required? Thanks for any advice.

Just cache and dalvik. Factory reset would only be necessary if they made substantial changes to the rom base.

Any fellow MIUI user here? Yesterday, I installed MIUI 3.1.11 and I have no lock screen, and my home button is not working other than for waking the device.
I need someone to verify that they have these bugs or not, if it's just for me? I tried both miuiandroid's release and miui.us, and I even started a topic of it in the bug section on en.miui.com and they don't seem to know what I'm talking about.
I'm rolling CWM touch recovery 6.0.2.7 (from rom manager) and I went through the usual process before moving to another rom, i.e. data wipe, cache wipe, dalvik cache wipe and then installed miui. (/system is formatted through the installer zip)
i remember something like this happening on my sgs2 before. the problem had something to do with the efs/imei/keystr file being non-existant. i wonder if it's the same with sgs3
I'll Google around some more, then.
Looks like that there isn't supposed to be a keystr file in /efs/imei/ anyways. It's in /efs/factoryapp/ and both those files have "ON" in them.

Which S3 do you have? There are plenty.
i9300
i9305 (LTE, 2GB RAM)
AT&T S3
Rogers S3
Telus S3
Bell S3
Verizon S3
Sprint S3
T-Mo S3
I have the international, non-LTE S3, a.k.a. the i9300.
I'm in 3.1.11 and I don't have any of your bugs. Although I did get the no lock screen bug when I tried out bazooka launcher but that could be because that app replaces the on-screen by itself anyway.

Hello everyone, I'm new in this forum.
First of all, I'm sorry for my English and for any grammatical errors.
After the last Offer on nexus 4, I decided to buy one, I'd be intent on root the device and install the ROM AOSPA Paranoid because I read that for devices nexus is the maximum.
Can you show me some simple guides regarding how to root the Nexus 4, and install the ROM AOSPA Paranoid, step by step, without risk of brick the phone?
Thanks in advance!

First read this if you're new to this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2367406
Then proceed by following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018179
Use this guide to unlock bootloader and install a custom recovery (TWRP): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2266654
You dont need to root your phone because PA comes prerooted. Then download PA + GApps, and boot into recovery. Go to the wipe menu, swipe to factory reset, then go to install, and choose the PA rom you download, then the Gapps, then reboot.

What can I say, I'm a fast typer
Now the op has 2 guides to choose from.
Thank you, albeit slowly, I will try to read both guides and understand them.
"Understanding the world before rooting your Android LG Nexus 4" I think it is very useful.
I'm not sure I understand it well, so the two guides are equivalent?
One other question, once installed the AOSPA 3 +, each time a new update comes out I have to reinstall start from the beginning, or is there a method to update, like android stock when a new update comes out? Like OTA update....

The guides use the same method, but the wording is a little different. I personally like the one I provided since theres a bit more info. Make sure you read abaaaabbbb63's understanding guide first though.
With PA when a new update is released you can usually just dirty flash it on top of your current build. This means downloading the update, going into recovery, flashing the update, and only wiping the cache and dalvik. You should not lose any data when you do this. PA also is working on an OTA system, but AFAIK its not fully functioning yet.

Good luck. Also make sure you read the OP of the official PA thread. It contains step by step by step instructions on how to flash and other useful stuff. (If you are currently on 4.2, its recommended to update your radio and boot loader to the 4.3....you can find out how in the PA OP.)

thank you very very very much!!!
I had a Nook Color, I rooted it and added CyanogenMod w/ Gapps and everything was great. Upgraded to a Transformer TF300T last X-Mas and enjoyed the tablet. After incredible slowdown and unbearable lag I really haven't used it much for anything in the last 6 months. Decided to pick it up and Root it and make it usable again.
Over the last 3 days I've been struggling greatly with this tablet. At first I was having trouble rooting it but that was because I was using my laptop which is windows 8.1 so I finally got it rooted on day 2 with TWRP. Then yesterday I was having a hard time getting it to load CyanogenMod but I determined it was the 2 versions. The 10.0 stable just sits at the Asus load screen and the most recent nightly just sits at the CyanogenMod home screen. After trying a few other nightlies I realized that I can get it to load CyanogenMod but now I can't get it to load any Gapps. There is a constant force close window that comes up and makes the tablet useless on most nightlies.
Then one nightly allowed the install but Google Play would just force close. Now I'm hearing about this other Custom Rom I could possible go with "CROMI-X" but a quick Google search and forum search just came up with more confusion.
Is there any way to just root this damn thing and put on a custom rom and have Google Play? I don't feel like I'm asking a whole lot. I know it's never going to be as easy as the Nook Color was but for christ sake, I'm not a novice. I can follow directions. It's like everything I look at is outdated or not compatible.
Please help, I'm slowly becoming suicidal because of this tablet.
And I figured it out, 10.2 = Android 4.3 whereas I was using a GAPPS.zip for 4.2 instead of 4.3 Hope that helps somebody.
What is so hard about loading chromi go to the thread in dev download the latest version when the wizard pops up select your model then select the options and finish you will have a stock asus Rom with extras. I'm running it fine.
First of all, DO NOT flash 4.2 rom on 4.1 bootloader or vice versa. Then flash correct gapps. 4.2 on 4.3 rom won't work. On OP thread there is always link to correct GAPPS. And since you're going from stock to modified ROM clean install (wipe cache, dalvik, data, format /system) is mandatory.
I didn't have single problem flashing tab so my only explanation is that you used wrong combination of ROM and GAPPS
1. What boot loader are you on? Wrong boot loader for a ROM = no good.
2. Did you wipe data + dalvik before you flashed CM?
3. Did you use the right gapps for your android version?
4. You did it wrong, don't blame the tablet

Easy bro. First of all, be patient and enjoy learning from mistakes. The android world is so big and there's a bunch of info on how to accomplish each task (root, unlock, flash, troubleshoot). So just be patient, read carefully, try to make yourself some time to understand what's wrong with the proecedure. Eventually you will get things fixed and you'll love your TF300T again. You have an awesome piece of hardware in your hands, it's just a matter of (again) patience. Just look at the DEV forum for this tablet, so may users, so many knowledgeable people willing to help, so many possibilities. Do NOT give up!
Checklist for rooting and ROMing the TF300
Unlocked bootloader? Sounds like you have done this
Custom recovery? You did this part...
If you were on the latest firmware from ASUS (which it sounds to me you are) you should be fine
If not follow instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187982
CROMi-X for tf300 is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187982
one last thing...
ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS
There are no stupid questions here
Poop
I edited my post before anybody had posted. Should have just deleted the thread but left it up thinking it might help somebody with a similar brain fart.

Surprisingly I can not find this answer anywhere?
So I'm considering using a custom kernel called Timor kernel. So that I can use an OTG cable and charge my nexus 7. What I need to know is what do I loose? Can I still update from google? Does this oversight the bug fixes google made since 2013?
http://mehrvarz.github.io/nexus-7-usbrom/
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/37755-timurs-kernel-usb-rom/
You can still update from Google but you'd have to flash back to stock completely. Or you can flash the many flashable stock ZIPs that pop up within the first few days.
You mean if I follow the thread I can just grab the "new release's" and if there was a google update it should be included?
Oh also, will this force me to reinstall apps and do all the google authentication as-well?
hmm, just saw this?
"If you are NOT currently running CM 10.1 or USB ROM, you need to first do a factory reset (wipe data partition). This will remove all your apps and custom settings. "
So that is a yes then?
Usbrom never made it past 4.2.2 (cm 10.1). You can always update the apps, but not the core os, eg.. 4.3, 4.3.1....... I run usbrom in multirom, so I have it for when needed, and 4.4 roms when I dont.

Recently updated my old Nexus 10/Manta to OmniROM 6.0.1 and I couldn't be happier. I had a fair bit of messing around on the first try until I got the sequence right...full wipe, flash ROM, flash Gapps pico and everything works REALLY well.
However, installing nightly updates is the same for me as the initial flash...I have to do a full wipe or I get the Google Services loop.
Am i doing something wrong is that how nightlies work currently?
Thanks.
Anyone? Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Still looking for help. Thanks.
