[Q] Nexus 10 (16Gb) completely bricked - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

- Steps to reproduce the problem.
I have seen a couple of other freeze ups from time to time, rather randomly, in various apps, not just Chrome.
In this case, I clicked the "All Apps" button in the lower right corner, and it froze.
- What happened.
The system froze, and then the screen went black. Now I am completely unable to restart the tablet. I does not matter how long I hold down the power button, either alone or combined with the volume up/down, it remains bricked. While connected to USB, it will show the battery charging icon in the middle of screen every 10 seconds (stays on for ~3 seconds) while I'm holding down the power button.
As of now the tablet is basically dead.
The tablet was running Android 4.2.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Power with volume up and down at the same time til you hit fast boot?

I know this will sound stupid, but are you sure you have battery?

Or try to hold the power button for about 20 seconds until N10 vibrates. That's it.

Keep it plugged in to the wall for a few hours and try again
edit: Emphasis on wall

How good are you with technology?

it may be worth reading this and possibly popping out the battery just to see if that helps.

did you resolve this issue? i just started having it. i know i was running out of battery and then my n10 wouldnt boot past the x screen after a restart. i left it plugged in but i dont know if it was charging. now it won't turn on and i get the same issue you have. i have it charging over night but i dont think it is going to help =(

Thanks for replying but after me thinking it was broken for 2 months it suddenly turned on on its own last night!
Not really sure what was wrong to begin with but when it turned on I had 0% charge for a few hours, really strange.

Same issue for me on 32Gb model.
I had a flicker screen once last week and today it doesn't boot up. I connected it for an hour but all I get is the fully charged battery icon when I press the power button, sometimes with a flicker screen or red/blue/green dots all over the place. It doesn't vibrate, it's not recognized by my Windows 8 computer.
I bought it through the eBay US deals and it sucks cause I'm in Europe...:crying:

Call +18553926398 from Skype. It is a Samsung Nexus Repair Center. From Skype it's free of charge line. I had problem with battery in my nexus 10 32gb. I had to send it to US on my cost. I spend on it (from Poland to the US) about 70euro(by UPS), from the US to Poland about $50 (by DHL). But Nexus came back repaired on warranty and it took about 1 week only. It easy and It worth to try. Important: Samsung Repair Center can send your fixed Nexus only to the US (to the US it's for free), so I used MyUS.com for 'a proxy' to send it to Poland (and this part cost about $50).

Just got my nexus 4, and after it was left in cwm for about 10 minutes (while I was making breakfast) it went to a black screen and now just the red led notification led is flashing whenever plugged in, and on my mac in system profiler it shows "composite device", any suggestions?
Thanks!

Don't know if you want to do this, but you can open the phone and disconnect and reconnect the battery connector...
What was your battery level, I know in other devices some times the CPU(s) run at full speed in recovery allowing for quicker flashing this could discharge the battery rapidly. Also a flashing red LED when plugged in normally means the phone is charging but doesn't have enough charge to reliably turn on, leave it plugged in for about 15 minutes and try turning it on again.
Try holding down the VOL + and - keys along with the powerbutton (after turning it off by holding down the power button for an extended time) and see if you can get into fastboot. My friend's Nexus 4 kept bootlooping after he unlocked the bootloader but booted straight to CWM after, not letting it erase userdata first.

I have no problem doing this, the phone seems easy to disassemble, looks alot like a overgrown iPhone 4, 2 screws on the bottom. I just hope its an easy slide, I don;t want to mar it in case I have to exchange it.

I thought this as well, its been plugged in for at least an hour now.
Oh and now I don't even get the red led!
good times..
I've got the exact same issue. Plugged it in last night to charge and this morning it wouldn't turn on. Plugged and unplugged it and the red LED starts flashing. After a minute or so I'm getting the battery charge animation on the screen - so the red LED is power related. Now to see if it actually charges up and boots.
Hi nycbjr. I have seen a similar issue posted here, but I can't find the thread at the moment, try searching. If I remember correctly then he got it working by holding power, volume keys and then plugging in the charger.

So..my nexus 7 won't turn on..

Recently updated my n7 to 4.2, haven't done anything beyond rooting. I woke up this morning, watched an episode of Prison Break via Netflix and went to work. I always plug it in before I leave, and it was saying it was charging before I left.
I get home from work today, and upon trying to unlock the device, it doesn't turn on. I unplugged it, checked the plug in it was using, even tried multiple different electrical sockets. Plugging it in usually brings up the off charging animation, but nothing. Anyone know what might be going on?
My sincerest apologies if this has been asked/questioned before; I did a little searching before I posted this and couldn't find anything about it. Thanks in advance.

Try holding down the power button for 10-20 seconds.
If that doesn't work, try leaving it plugged in for a couple hours and check back on it.
Also try plugging it into the computer and seeing if your screen has gone bad, the Nexus 7 should still come up if it's on.
...I really can't believe I made a post for this..rofl. Thanks a lot, I guess I'm just a little too impatient to hold the power down longer than five seconds.
If mods wanna delete, feel free.

Had the same issue today...thanks to all for the quick and easy fix...feel like such a dork!
I'm having the same problem, last night I tried to turn on my Nexus7 and had issues.
My device is locked and upgraded to 4.2
While booting, the device would get to the lock screen then immediately power down. While it was powering down the screen would fuzz over and glitch a few times. As soon as it turned off it would repeat the process. I eventually got it into the boot loader and I noticed "based version: N/A" I'm not sure what that means but I hit start and now all it does is get stuck at the multi-colored X logo.
Getting back into boot loader I tried recovery mode, the response is "No command". Tried plugging it into my PC and I get the little (ba dum) sound but no device or folders to be scene.
I think i'm in trouble. I wanted to see if I could root it just so the device works again but I can't access it on my PC.
Can anyone think of a step or process I forgot to try?
My Nexus 7, wont turn on anymore either i charged it , it was very low went down to 11% battery so i turned it off and charged it, saw the battery on the screen and now.. It will not turn on, unit feels very warm when charging. It started to lag a bit , before i turned it off.. its normal software as supplied by nexus. so..> no matter how long i hold the buttons.. its off and screen stays black..
doh....asked for RMA number..only used it for a month
My Nexus 7 32Gb won't turn on either. I've been having since I got it the battery has been showing 0% since I turned it on. Regardless of how much charging I did it never changed. It ran fine and was told it might be to do with calibrating the battery but it then started to have problems turning on. It's gone off and I've tried the various power on options mentioned in this thread and nothing is working.
I guess it means a return to Carphone Warehouse. I had just got it all set-up as well.
I had rooted it and manually upgraded it to 4.2.1. It was running fine bar the 0% battery issue. I did the same thing to my Mum's 16Gb Nexus 7 and no problems at all with that one.

New Nexus 7 Died after 2 Hrs Use
Nexus 7 shut off after only 2 Hrs of use and placed on USB charge. Tried holding button down for 30 Seconds and up/down combination with Power and nothing worked. Opened back cover carefully and patiently with Plastic Opening Tool I already had. Disconnected battery for thirty seconds then replaced connector without removing battery. Snapped cover back on. Hit power and it turned on. Do not use metal on case to open. Hope this helps. I got the idea from Youtube Video. I'm a new user and Not allowed to post links yet. Nexus 7 Teardown Review.

Thanks a lot I holded power button for more than 15 sec it got powered on thanks for your information.I am Happy now.
Man, I was just freaking out. Just got the wifi 16 on Monday. Rommed it as soon as I got home. Was using it at my local watering hole, and it suddenly just would not respond. Black screen, yadda yadda.
15 seconds of holding the power button and boom. Google logo, and then SmoothROM's boot ani. *wipes forehead* Never been so happy to see Jessica Nigri's face! lol
Thank You
I had been turning the Nexus on and off for the last couple of days, No "problems".
I tried to turn it on a couple of minutes ago and NOTHING. I even pluged it in and the battery charging icon did not turn on.
I also tried holding the button for 5 seconds but still nothing.
Fix:
I had to held the button for over 15 seconds to get it to turn on.
Thanks!
Similar problem with my nexus 7. Battery charge shows up when i plug it in. If I try to turn it on while its plugged in, i get what looks like static and lines on the screen. When I unplug it, it dies. If I hold the power button down, and plug it in, it will boot normally, and everything seems to work fine, but the battery shows as dead, and as soon as I unplug it, it dies.Just got it, it came with 4.2.1 running on it, it was an open box from Best Buy, and developer options were already enabled on it. Looks like someone tried to root it, f'd it up, and returned it. Guess I'm taking it back and returning it as well. Just a major pain as it's 1.5 hours each way from where I live to the closest best buy and back.
My problem is an easy fix, return it. However, I'd like to know if anyone figures out a fix for this incase it happens in the future.
Thanks.

Hello. I've had nexus for a few weeks now. Tonight i was surfing the Web and the screen started blinking on and off rapidly. It finally shut off. Now it will not boot. I tryed getting into the bootloader by holding volume up and down and power. I get nothing. If I plug it into the charger... The battery icon comes on the screen but that's it. If my nexus fried? Is there anything else I can do?

I've had the exact same problem as OP. I was browsing in Chrome when the backlight started flickering. Wearing headphones but with no sound, I was able to hear faint static that correlated with the darkness of the screen (when the screen was dim mid-flicker, noise was produced). I had it set to a specific brightness setting, so I switched to automatic using the drop-down settings menu. The problem persisted. I did not exit Chrome. I tapped the power button which gave a normal enough looking fade out. After about 5 seconds I tapped the power button again to power the device on. The Chrome screen I had been looking at when I powered the screen off flashed briefly on my screen accompanied by a bit of static and a slight pop, and the device went black. I have not gotten a response from the device since except for, like OP, when the device is plugged into the wall. Then I only get a battery icon with a lightning bolt for 1 second every time I push the power button.
After calling the warranty information number, Google is sending me a replacement device. They do not make you pay $400 (in my case, as I had the 16Gb) but authorize a payment of that amount so that if you do not return the device within 21 days they are not left high and dry. Seems reasonable to me.
Anyway, just adding my experience with this issue to the forum. OP is not the only one to get this symptom!
I just got this same issue. Was reading my news feeds on Google Reader, it seemingly froze up for a few seconds, then the screen started flickering when touched, and finally went black. Device is non-responsive except when plugged in, where it'll display the battery icon for a few seconds.
I do not know if this is related, but I was also having the charging glitch where it would power down with "0% battery" when plugged in or unplugged seemingly at random, and the long wake-up issue.
Now I am trying to get the device awake enough to be recognized by my pc so i can adb backup my data, but so far I am getting nowhere T.T

2 possible solutions, first is the easiest.
1. While it's plugged in to charger and the battery is showing hold in power and up/down volume buttons together for about 5 seconds after battery disappears and release power while continuing to hold up/down volume until recovery comes up.
If your warranty has expired then try second option
2. Open it up and disconnect battery, hold power for 10 second then reconnect and power up.
AW: [Q] Nexus 10 doesn't boot anymore
Hmm, first solution doesn't work, but it once vibrated and the screen blinked for a short moment when I plugged it in after some time, unfortunately I can't reproduce it :/
I already rooted so I might have no warranty at all anymore but if it is a hardware bug they have to repair, or?
I bought it last December.
At least my friend got his rooted i9300 replaced without any cost when it got sudden death.
Actually don't know what to do now :/

Sometimes they don't care, or don't know.

Nexus 6P WILL NOT power back on

I was customizing a widget on my phone when all of a sudden, it freezes then crashes and powers itself off. It then proceeded to power itself back on but took more than 3 minutes on the colorful Google startup animation screen, which I thought was way longer than usual, so I held the power button to shut it off and start it up. But the thing is, it didn't start back up. I held the power button for 5, 15 seconds, 1, 10 minutes, no response. Power +volume down button for 15, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, nothing. Plugged into wall and computer for 15, 30 minutes, unplug and plug back in after 5 seconds and hold power button, nothing. Practically all trouble shooting tips had solved nothing. Not even a single week had completed after this phone was initially powered on before it did this. I contacted Google support and after they had guided me through the same tips I had already tried, they told me they could not assist any further because I had purchased it from Amazon. I got it unlocked and used a SIM card from Consumer Cellular. Huawei was closed so I sent an email explaining the problem. I want to get this fixed without sending it back, but chances are I will just send it back to Amazon for a new one because I heard Huawei takes weeks to do so, that is after I get back from vacation. The greatest time for your phone to brick on you, the evening that you arrive to your week-long vacation destination, right? I had spent about $30 on a skin and a screen protector for the phone already and had put them on, just so I can send it back less than a week later. Really cool. Is there some dark magic trick that I am missing here to get it rebooted? Has anyone else had this specific problem with the 6P? What do I do?

Yes I was using the stock rapid charging adapter and cable for wall charging, and I used a third party cable for the computer, both techniques did not work.

That's what I'm thinking I'm going to have to do, I'll have to do it through Aamazon. I'm on vacation so do you think I'll be able to ship it out and get a new one from our rental house address by the end of the week?
