Hello, guys
I want to know what your views are on trading my iphone 4 16gb for an nexus one? Please don't get carried away with "it's an apple device". so, anyway i want to know your opinion on this.
It depends on what are you looking for in a phone - and then you need to compare, what each device does and how it does - and then decide if it's a good trade.
dollar for dollar i would see this as a poor trade...
What you should do is sell the iphone 4 for cash, then used that cash to buy nexus one + leftover cash.
Both phones can be had for around the same price. Both are really good phones. I wouldn't trade my Nexus for an iPhone 4 for nothing. The Nexus is a rare phone that is completely customizable and personable. I could never find myself stuck with one homescreen layout.
Would I suggest you sell your iPhone 4 for a nexus? Probably not. It could be a good investment as Android Gingerbread is due out shortly and the Nexus might pull in some big dough for having it.
I would suggest that if you want to make the switch to Android (which you should) I would hold off until next year when some of the newer dual-core chips come out.
If you can't wait to get rid of the iPhone 4 (I don't blame you) and you want something now, the Nexus One is a great candidate although good luck finding a AT&T version. The MyTouch HD, G2, EVO, DroidX, and Galaxy S are all good phones. Samsung and Motorola are software update Nazi's. The HTC variants usually have good community base for custom roms and hacks. The G2 runs stock Android which is nice, similar to the Nexus One.
The Nexus One gets its updates directly from Google which is why it is so popular. The others are updated via the Carriers/Manufactures.

don't
trade it with a better phone, like HTC desire HD, Desire Z, Galaxy S ......
Where did he say he was doing a straight swap? He didnt actually mention prices?
Anyway, as said, it depends what you want to do with it, and which OS you prefer. The iphone is undoubtedly more polished, more stable, has a better battery life and higher resale value, and a greater range of games and apps. The camera is slightly better and the screen is noticeably better. As an overall ownership experience, I'd say for "most people" the iphone is clearly better. For a techie like most of the folks on this site, its not so clear cut. The N1, thanks to android is a lot more open and flexible, and certainly seems like its more powerful at times; there is nothing that can't be changed - the iphone is a lot more restricted.
So what do you want out of a phone? Do you want a good device that works nigh perfectly all of the time or are you willing to settle for a few niggles for a device that can be customised to a much greater degree?
Personally, I've got to say, if someone came along and offered to swap me an iPhone 4 for my Nexus One, I'd have to say that I personally would take it. However, in the real world, nobody is going to do that - the best I could hope for would be to hand over £200 and my Nexus One for an iphone 4, and with that in mind, the choice is simple - I'd keep the N1. For me, the IP4 is a better phone overall, but the N1 is easily 90%+ the phone the IP4 is, and for that reason given that I'd have to hand over a large wedge of cash to swap, the choice is reasonably simple. That said, I can't say I haven't sometimes been tempted to go back to an iphone.
I was just thinking what phone should I go for after my sweet HTC HD2.. I am proud owner of HD2 for 3 years now and I still love it for what it does even now.. But as you know the next gen phones are coming out every other day with front facing cam, near field communication etc which are hardware upgrades not possible to be implemented in our HD2, I was wondering what would be the next best phone to move on and which would have a good XDA support.. So guys please help me to choose one and also I think this would be helpful for many others..

I too am (still) a proud HD2 owner. That phone rocks, and always will.
I upgraded in December though, to the SGS2 and am thrilled with it.
I swore I would leave it stock, for a really long time...and 4 days later began with the flashing/upgrading/modding again.
There aren't quite so many options for the S2, as the HD2 but only b/c on the HD2 I could flash winMo in various versions, and Android etc etc etc. You know the drill. Mine doesn't have NFC, but really I read an article last week that said that there are sth like 25 stores in America where you can pay with NFC. Bah, who needs it.
If you can afford it, and money's no thing, grab a Nexus. If you're on a budget (like me) and you want a phone that you'll still be stoked with (and absolutely thrilled about the price) check into the SGS2. I'm an Android lover, so I'm diggin' it.
Good luck!
Be patient and wait for a real upgrade - HTC Edge/Supreme (4.7" 720p S-LCD2; Tegra 3; 1 GB RAM). Will be presented next month at MWC.

But what are the chances of scoring one for < €350?
The SGS2 has a major price advantage over anything out now, or coming out in the next year.
Thanks guys for the replies.. I know SGS2 is good but I don't like Samsung's build quality.. I didnt know about HTC supreme.. Looks interesting.. and I always love the HTC's solid build quality..
Waiting for the Tegra 3 devices, for sure! I waited for 2 months for the HD2 to become available and get delivered. Looks to me a bit longer for these epic devices.
Was tempted by the Vivid/Raider/Velocity for about a day, until I saw the Edge/Supreme.
I will be sad to see the mighty HD2 go, but it will go on to a worthy user.
Hi Guys,
I used to have an HD2 and a SGS2. I now have a htc sensation XL and im really proud of it. The quality of HTC is always the best for me. It has a 1.5 gHz processor but a large screen. Its very fast and you have beats audio. If you were happy with your HD2 I think the Sensation XL is the best option for you. The galaxy s2 had so many random reboots. I tried every version on it but nothing works perfectly.
i moved to a galaxy note
I bought the sensation back in October and have been more than satisfied with it. It is a very solid phone and has enough power to hold you over for at least a couple years. Just barely have they started coming out with apps that really use the dual core processors, so I wouldn't worry about having more than what the sensation has. And to my understanding the processor chip is the EXACT one used in XE so overclocking from stock 1.2 to a blazing 1.5 ghz is no problem. Some kernels are available with up to a little over 1.7 ghz so speed is definitely not an issue.
been using HD2 for 4months now and this is a legendary phone...
I'm always looking for a 2nd hand phone because i'm still studying..
I think SGS2 will be my next choice when the price reduced like when i buy my HD2....
To XL owners: is 4.3" to 4.7" noticeable for e-reading and browsing?

I assume it is as noticeable as the difference between a 4" and a 4.3" which in my opinion is quite a bit.

I think, the next HD2 will be the new HTC Ville(Codename). It should available in Q1/2012.
The technical Data sounds good especially for custom ROMS because it has 16GB internal Memory and 1GB RAM inside.

Hello,
the next Phone... hmmm good Question. After i flashed Android 2.3.7 and 4.0.3 i want WinMo back
So i wait for HD8 of course. Maybe in the middle of 2012?

With noticeably bigger screen,dc processor and camera etc ..galaxy Note is a worthwhile upgrade from HD2.May be just wait some more time and get it with ICS + display improvement (?)..
I think i am just stopping with my HD2 when it's broken.
And then move on to another HTC phone, but it HAS to be an android phone.
I just moved from my HD2 to a Sensation. It does not have quite the development that the HD2 has, but it has the same screen size with with better resolution. I have definitely become an HTC fan and I am pleased with the Sensation. Also, they can be found for a little over $200.

I've had my HD2 since 2009, my next phone will be Android and not Windows.
I like the Samsung Galaxy Note and its 5.3" screen but I'm waiting to see if HTC bring out an equivalent to the Note but with ICS pre-installed.

Hi guys, what recommendations do you have for my next phone.
I have 2 in mind...
Samsung Galaxy III - blk
or
Galaxy nexus - less powerfull but most people seem to recommend not sure why ?
Will never get a Iphone as there OS is ****. im all about the customization factor and new roms coming out and in the future that will be compatible ect.
Any recommendations ? and could you explain why you recommend ect.
I will be ordering the phone tonight so i need some quick replys if possible cheers.
as i sold my desire hd for £120 lol
If you had posted this before selling your Desire HD I would have said to wait for the new Nexus which will most likely appear around November time. However seeing as you have already sold it, I would personally go for the Galaxy Nexus. People recommend it because of the immense support available for it, both official and on XDA. The main reason why it is being recommended now is because of the Jelly Bean oficial update which made the overall daily user experience better than the new top spec phones ie the HTC One X and Galaxy S3, Officially it should receive every update for a good few major revisions and on XDA there is huge development work for it. Development will still remain strong for it after the new Nexus comes out judging by the developer (and Google) support for the Nexus S.
Personally if I was in your situation I would go for a Galaxy Nexus now because the day to day use performance will be superb with JellyBean and I would possibly sell it when the new Nexus comes out to go for that.
EDIT: But be sure that once the new Nexus gets announced, the resale price of the Galaxy Nexus will drop substantially. Just something to keep in mind when you make your decision.
I couldnt wait lol so i ordered a samsun galaxy III im sure it will keep me happy after my awesome dhd.
S III is the right choice. Galaxy Nexus is getting the updates first, true but it's hardware is already outdated. S III has a healthy community already so you won't be left behind at all.
I have a Galaxy s3 right now and I can say that it is the most boring phone in the universe!
It is so fast that you don't need custom ROMs on it! It is the best in the smartphone galaxy right now! It can do anything you throw at it! This thing is even faster than some netbooks! (ok! all of them)
A friend of mine have the Galaxy Nexus. It is a beautiful and really well build device and with Android 4.1.1 it runs almost as fast as the SGS3!
If you like the standard Android interface and to be one of the first people to get the new updates, this is the phone for you!
So what you need to decide is:
1. Price! The SGS3 is the most expensive smartphone now!
2. Software support! The GN is supported by Google
3. Storage! The SGS3 have MicroSD slot but the GN doesn't
4. Multimedia support! There is no other Android device in the universe that has more codecs supported than the SGS3!!!
There are maybe more deciding factors but you get the point!

You made the right decision!
Yes the Samsung galaxy SIII is the right choice right now.
Well i recommend SONY Xperia S.
Nice screen
cheap for high end device
fast,all games work perfectly!
A$$ load of memory 25,88 GB i made it to 26,00 GB so that is enough
ICS+ JELLYBEAN IN 2013 SUMMER
GOOD battery life compared to desire hd.
looks good
Camera is better than all competition with 12,1mpix! i reviewed agaist iphone 4s and others... so i know that, gotta know howto photography. SO GREAT CAMERA!
good loud speaker.
PLays all videos, if not then DICE player will....
CONS, not so ergonomic Square brick. non removable battery Thats all...
I'd definitely say the Galaxy S3, can't really be beaten at the moment, imo.
HTC One S is awesome worth a try i like it even better than the One X
The main thing I'll be looking for on my next phone will be better battery life. I'm sure everyone wants more, but my DHD is as good as it's been lately (ARHD 6.3.3), and last night I went out at around 4pm with 90%, and at about 10pm I was at 29% and I was actually thinking I should head home because my phone would die out. I used it for texting, taking a few photos... It's just frustrating.
I wonder how a phone with a 4.8" screen actually does on battery in real life usage.
One X is amazing device
I'm in the same boat as you and out of the 2 I'm thinking of ( Same as you ) the S3 is looking to be my choice. One thing to watch price wise is what storage capacity is the phone. CPW have the S3 for £549.95 + £10 payg card but dont state is the 16gb, 32gb or 64gb model. I like CPW 'cause all their phones are unlocked even if you buy on contract

2 bad that Lord K is shutting down Hes Ice Cold Rom....but i wend in on the Jellybean thread and gave the Unofficial CM10 a shot....and tell U the truth.....all though still in Beta it works great!!.....almost all my apps from ICS Ice cold works..... except the viber app that crashes....My Bluetooth, wifi, cam, gps works just great.....in fact my gps works even better now....before i had to copy some gps files manually into root every time there was a new nightly build.....now it just maxes out on satellites and works great with my sygic app.
And the install of the Jelly rom wend smoothly....into to recovery, clear cashe partition, clean delvig, clear battstats, install the rom , install the jelly gabbs and away it wend......
So guys.....give it a try...and wait at least until 2k13 to look for a new device.....U would be amazed how great the unofficial CM10 Jelly rom works with Ure DHD

Errrmm..... Its kind of biased asking whether you should buy a Nexus or another phone on a nexus forum isnt it? But even so, the Nexus does win without question, the Galaxy Nexus had horrible specs that were a year old when it first came out, yet it was still considered high end and sold at the same price as phones like the S3 and i phone for a majority of its life span as stock Anrdroid is generally faster as its got less bloatware, it receives updates upto a year before other OEM's and its just looked BAD-ASS! Now consider that this time round, the Nexus 4 has the best specs on the market right now running stock Android. This thing is going to fly with everything you throw at it. HTC Sense is still unbelievably jerky and inconsistent even on a Quad-core phone, look at the original One X (which isnt exactly low on specs). Thats not even taking into account the pricing. I would have bought a Nexus 4 if it were sold at the same price as the One X+, I honestly dont think that there has been a more value for money phone than this in the last 5 years. The specs destroy all the current phones on the market, its one of the nicest phones ive ever seen, its going to get updated as soon as theyre released and its half the price of its competitors.
Not sure if serious... But on topic, Nexus 4.

If brand new, both were exact same price, the One X+ is a cooler phone, root it, and install CM11 based off Android 4.2 next month.
But the One X+ is 50% more expensive, and there is no original development or CM10 ready yet for the X+
So the Nexus 4 wins, hands down.
Now in a month or so, when the One X+ is rooted, and running the new CM11, I would love to see a review comparing both phones.

Will buy the Nexus 4!
50% cheaper
Gets updates faster than any other phones
Do not have to immediatlely root it, 'cause it has the Android I want (the latest, stock based like CM)
Its price and specs are overwhelming
Just wondered about its - in comparison to the HOX+ [64GB] - low internal memory [16GB] and that you can't add a micro SD... Asked a friend who owns an Galaxy Nexus, which size its internal memory has - also 16GB. He has so much apps installed and he still has 13GB, really envious with my Wildfire S [150 MB intenal memory...]
EDIT: Found out the max of the internal memory in the Nexus-Serious was and is 16GB!

Great thread OP, I was in the same shoes you are in last night but after reading engadget's review of the One X+, the nexus 4 is a no brainer. The One x+ has great storage, a higher clocked CPU and a beautiful design, but apparently, battery life is still not as good as the best phone out there like the galaxy s3 (forget the note 2, it can't be touched) . It does perform better than the One X running ICS, but people have reported that the jelly bean One X flies. So I would buy a one x instead to save money cause battery life is not that much of an improvement. But One x vs nexus 4? Hands down the nexus 4, you won't have to fast boot space blah blah blah to flash a rom or a kernel.

Thanks for your very professional feedback! Don't know if you read my post two posts above. That were the reasons for my decision to buy a nexus 4.... but still have a bit time to think about it...
Knew about the great internal specs of the one x+. Nexus 4 can't touch it. But usually I do only use CyanogenMod.. If I'd own a nexus, it would not be necessary to install it for me - but 'cause of its advantages in comparison with the stock android I'll do.
Will also root it 'cause then I'll be able to move apps and data onto sd card!

Wrong. The S4 Pro in the Nexus 4 is better than the Tegra 3 in the X+
Hello! I'm a current galaxy nexus user and I feel like I need an upgrade, and the only two devices that come across my mind are the Nexus 4 and the One X+ (international version and unlocked). At first I was, actually I still am Nexus obsessed, so the Nexus 4 always was my first option. But with all this shipping and availability trouble that is going on at the moment, plus the glass of the back thing, I started wondering if it is really worthy.
So, I need some advices and stuff like that so I can decide.
Attention:
My decision will be made regardless the common things, like: lack of LTE in the Nexus 4, price, Sense UI (I'm gonna use cyanogenmod on both devices, even if I have to wait a bit for the official CM 10.1 for the OX+, consider it) and I know the One X+ will probably be left alone by HTC in one year or more, but this won't be a problem because I'll most probably get a new phone in one year (not trying to sound like a bad ass, lol)
Thanks in advance! Let me know what you all think.

Well, the shipping issue isn't the reason of my doubt, because I'll probably buy it on Amazon as I won't be able to buy it later. I need to make a decision by the first week of february.
Never had an HTC phone before.. So I wont tell you that it's a crappy phone. The nexus now is different story. This is my second nexus device :good: And once you get a nexus you enjoy android more.. Well it's untouched and yes updates are timely I'm sure you know that!! To get your hands on one of these unless your willing to buy somewhere else it's a hassle!! But once you have it you''ll love it.. Now the Glass you ask about.. To be honest once you have a case you should be fine.. Kinda of annoying to baby this phone without a case... Believe me it's a gem.. IMO! Sure there are things ppl will say is missing Whatever..
Me I love this phone I'm constantly flashing stuff so this device is perfect for me:good: As mentioned before never owned or use a HTC phone.. Be happy with your purchase....
You could buy the at&t one x (not the +) for cheap and unlock it. They are going for $200 to $250 on ebay right now. I had the at&t one x and the one x+ at the same time and the one x was faster at everything. I was disappointed with the one x+ when I compared the 2 phones side by side. I sold the one x+ and bought the nexus 4. I know you want unlocked but the dual core s4 processor in the one x is faster than the tegra 3 at everything but the quadrant benchmark, but we all know benchmarks mean nothing. The development for the at&t one x is really good at the moment, it already has cm10.1. Just a suggestion.

N4 does not have USB OTG, HTC One X does I believe. I'd have gone with an int'l HOX, but I got an N4 before Google did the old switcharoo on us.
I had an AT&T HOX (sold it for N4 because it didn't support T-Mobile well), and it felt like a great sturdy device. I liked the poly-carbonate back. It stands up a lot better to drops. My vote goes to HOX.
Go for the One X+ the little RAM will be annoying though but if you can get over that it should offer a good experience, I have a AT&T One X and Nexus 4 and personally think N4 is better but 64GB internal, better front and rear cameras, I find the speaker and sound quality better on N4 and custom ROMS are way better on N4 than One X and I think the screens are equally good not to mention you can tweak colors on N4, but LTE seems to be an issue for you, so One X+
Let me also N4 is better looking design wise, both are in cases but the clean look is beautiful
Software software!!!!!
It really depends upon your priorities. I got the N4 because it does everything that I want and is $350 whereas my cousin, for example, got the One X+ because he needs 64MB storage for music.
If you can't wait a month, then One X+ is the only solution. If you can, then you have to decide whether no LTE and 16MB of storage is a dealbreaker; if not, then the N4 should be the choice. You should also be aware of that the One X+ apparently has horrible battery life.
Htc sucks.

Interesting! I was also looking at the three (One X+, Nexus 4, and One X). I settled on the One X. A lot of what I found indicated that the One X outperformed the X+. Development is also significantly better right now. I was turned away from the Nexus 4 by the reported issues. It must not be that bad; it's always sold out on Google Play lol.

Nexus 4 must be blazing then.
I own both, the n4 & one x (international version) & I gotta say the n4 is way better than my one x. My main problem with HTC devices is how they lock them down. No s-off, bootloader unlock only. Plus you gotta fastboot flash your boot.img with every rom upgrade. Look at what htc is doing right now, removing all sites that offer RUU downloads for developers to build new roms on. It looks like HTC doesn't want anyone developing on there devices. Plus they hold on to there kernel source for 90 days so forget about having the latest greatest roms & kernels avalible. N4 on the other hand is great. snappy as hell, constant development, & always the latest sources & binaries avalible for developers to build upon.

As far as flashing the boot.img, download Flash Image GUI from the Google play store. This app will flash the boot.img for you without having to use fastboot. I used it all the time when I had my one x and never had any problems.

You probably had the AT&T variant. On the international HOX the boot partition can only be flashed through fastboot
N4, hands down. I've had a lot of devices and this(n4) is soooooo badass.

Nexus 4 defo. If you can get your hands on one. Would love to see Google / LG's 'planning' on this!
HTC have only made 2 truly great phones: HD2 and Nexus One. I had the sensation.. blerg that was an experience then 12 other models of the same phone came out that same week, and then they did the same with the 'One' series and I just lost the will to live (a tad dramatic I admit over a phone) and got an S2 then the N4..
N4 all the way. Unless Google do actually screw us all and release KLP on a new device. which would make me ever so slightly cross. But it doesn't take much..
I was torn between the same two phones, went for the Nexus 4 and I'm really happy with it. First android phone, iphone user before that.
I'd recommend using Faux kernel and app - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2008222 - you can edit the colour/gamma settings... my only issue with the phone is the default gamma isn't great, whites have a hint of yellow.
Had an international one X and it wasn't a good experience, if you want to keep sense then one x off course, but if you ever think that you might want vanilla android or more openness then the nexus. The one X unfortunately was the last straw for me, you get the sense from the forum that generally everyone was fed up. Look at any new leak for a HTC phone and there so much negativity, these aren't fanboys, these are people like me who bought desires or sensations and are witnessing htc continually turn there back on them.
