OpenGLRenderer is out of memory! - Acer Iconia A500

Hello, I've been having a problem with the Gmail App and android 4+. Every now and then it'll freeze and after a few seconds it'll crash (no crash manager alert is shown). Logcat shows a lot of these errors:
OpenGLRenderer: GL error from OpenGLRenderer: 0x505
OpenGLRenderer: OpenGLRenderer is out of memory!
This issue occurs on 3 ROMS I've tried, but I only remember 2 of those (the other was an ICS leaked ROM):
pjsports' cm10 jb 4.1.2 unofficial
civato's flex cm10 v6_supercharger
The problem is less recurrent in Flex CM10, perhaps due to the memory management provided by v6_supercharger. I've tried searching on google and the forums here, but all I could find is that this was a known bug which was solved in 4.1 (most of the information found is for the Transformer though). The recommended solution for this is to do a full wipe, but I've done this many times (both using CWM recovery and fastboot -w) and the problem remains.
I'm going to try AOKP jb 4.1.2 by pjsports, in the comments only the browser is mentioned for memory leaks, not gmail. Is everyone having this issue? If not, what is your configuration?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Well, it seems the bug exists in every jb 4.1 rom that contains the cm9 egl libraries. I'm currently using CM9 nightly for the a500 and it works perfectly.

Hi,
I have the same problem with jb 4.1. Where did you getget the cm9 nightlies for the Acer A500 from?
Peter.

AOKP in my Nexus One

hello xda crew,
I am posting here because despite I joined xda almost 2 years ago, I didnt post too much hehe and i cannot post in devs forums yet (less than 10 posts users cannot)
Ive installed AOKP rom a while ago (v15.5) and I am very happy with it. I am using it as my regular phone.
Now Im just about to install the last version (v20.5). with less bugs, and more functinal things!
thx @zyr3x and Kang Team for this awesome rom, nice job!
if I attain 10 posts without spamin, I will inform you with the issues and all that.
just one question. is it recomendable to do wipe when updatin the rom¿ i mean, i was going to install aokp_v20.5 over aokp_v15.5 without wiping data and/or cache. do I need to do the wipe¿
i havent played with the AOKP rom yet but usually as with all roms, when flashing between versions of the same base, a quick cache+dalvik cache wipe is okay.
no need to full wipe/factory reset UNLESS the dev says otherwise

ok thx. i updated without problems. (wipe cache+delvik cache)
I recommend you to try AOKP rom, the best ics rom for nexus one atm.
before upgrading to ICS i was using CM7 (nightly version) but now i dont regret the change. having ICS in the nexus one is great, and works fine, with only a couple of minor bugs.
You should try Lewa OS and you may change your mind
i am currently use the same AOKP rom latest version i love the way it runs to mate as for lewa os it is not secure when running it in my zte blade we had to modify the run since it sent details and information to the chinese developers be careful of that rom unless the porter for the nexus one version has removed the same functionality found in the zte blade one mate

The ICS ROM uses different HBOOT size and JB as well so if you want to use JB you will have to flash HBOOT for JB. Video recording doesn't work in ICS and JB.

Yes, I flash the Hboot for JB that TexasIce gives in his post of Evervolv JB.
So video recording doesn't work in ICS too thanks for the answer
I see in your sign that your using AOKP in your Nexus One. Do you experience some lag? For example, I get lag in Evervolv JB when I use some apps like Whatsapp. Got some of those in AOKP?
I take some build.prop tweak on nightly JB and it works smoother now. Enabling vsync seems the key.

Yes there is some lag with the AOKP ROM that I am using but I can live with it. Planning to upgrade to JB soon because it's much smoother and faster too.

Those are probably the best CM7 builds that you will find for DEFY's on Froyo kernel, as Maniac has been devoted to CM7 developing up until today, while others have switched to CM9 and now CM10 and do work for other devices, too.
Highly recommended

I am upgrading from Froyo 2.2.1 and need a stable not nightly. Is this the one https://github.com/maniac103 I can use?
maniac103
Correction: https://github.com/maniac103/android_device_motorola_jordan/downloads. Is this a full Rom not nightly of Maniac 7.2 with all the components I need to flash to my Defy froyo 2.2.1 . I guess I need GAPPS flashed also. This is my first flash and I want to get it right.
It's not a stable. A stable is a version witch had no new features and only bug fixes for at least a week. So that you have no half working features.
As there have not been new features after the last stable, these are probably better. To get the "official" cm version visit get.cm but really nothing is official about a custom rom!
You'll be OK with maniac's build.
Yes also the gapps (see they are gb)
And wipe from the custom recovery!

Thx. What I meant was does it have all the components to flash from Froyo 2.2.1 including the correct kernal. Thx again

Fix for Wi-Fi issue after installing leaked JB build.

Several of us have had problems with Wi-Fi not connecting after installing the leaked JB build and reverting to CM9/10. Well, kristofpetho on the CM10 discussion thread found a fix and I'm sharing it with you all:

1. Flash back ANY custom ICS ROM (Samsung based)
2. Full wipe
3. Flash CM of choice
This worked for me, must have been something overwritten by the new JB ROM...

I can confirm this worked for me as well, with CM9.
Radical solution) lol
no problems with wifi on both 1st(test) and 2nd(ota) leak jb.
I just did this method, WiFi still not working for me on cm10 for some reason... ;(

JB and i9000

Hey guys, can anyone recommend me the "most-stable" JB rom, for everyday use? How's Slim Bean for example? Last time i flashed it (one of the first versions, tho) i had problems with network, gallery, etc.. are they solved with the latest ROMs?
Which bugs still need to be solved?
I'd like to pass to 4.1 from my SlimICS but i'd need some tips on which one to flash!
Thanks
I'm currently on HellyBean 09/04 and I must say it's really smooth and stable for me. Try it out: www.hellybean.com
Slim Bean works great for me. Very smooth, I've not encountered any bugs yet.
The new slim bean is as stable as slim ics.

Tried CM10 and Slim Bean. The latter is even smoother. Slim Bean has a GPS issue, but there's a special patch to resolve this. I'm happy now.

My fav right now is: Remics-JB 2.0.0 Rev1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1804032
So far so good .. stable, and like the S3 UI.
But it took me some time to get it working when I upgraded from ICS. I had bootloop problems couple of times.
How I got it to work: I went back to stock, got CM9 working, then upgraded to CM10 nightly, and then went to Remics.
I've also tried CM10 nightly with S3 add-on, Slim Bean with S3 add-on, and Magic Bean, but like Remics the best.
I'm sure everyone has diff tastes, so I'd just keep trying diff roms til you find the one you like.
Other tweaks independant of the ROMs I tried
- changed the modem to the one thats better for my area
- changed accuweather widget to fancy widget
- wallpaper, ringtone, notifications, ... you know the small stuff that everyone changes
Many thanks for all the tips guys, installed Slimbean 2.3 yesterday and after one day of usage it seems very stable and bugfree to me, as always with the slim-roms perhaps i'll try some others when i have time, but i gotta say Slimbean is just perfect!

[Q] Most stable Defy ROM?

Im giving away my Defy to my brother, who is not good at ROM hacking thus I want to install him a ROM that is as stable as possible. I've installed one of Quarx's 4.3 ROM to it (2 months ago), but after a few days it refused to boot (guess it was the data corruption bug). So I wiped everything, now it has stock 2.2 ROM.
Any recommendations on a newer ROM, that has as few issues as possible?

Why not cm11? i think it's the only one stable since cm9, and almost everything works.

CM11 is not yet ready fully and it's not fully stable.
SlimBean 4.3.1
GB ROMs: MS2Ginger or CM7, already mentioned.
JB ROM: STABLE SlimBean 4.3.1 (final) build2.2.

Do not install Slimbean for someone who doesn't flash his phone. Slimbean uses a customized version of the playstore, which means that the playstore won't work if google updates it.
There's nothing like CM7 for stability. I thought 4.1.2 was robust but it's starting to behave strangely after a couple of weeks of use.

Good point, but correct and incorrect.
Google Play Store 4.4.22 still working fine. It shouldn't be a problem to replace or manually update it to the latest 4.5.10.
Just download com.android.vending-4.5.10.apk and install the update.

Is Slimybean based on Quarx's 4.3 ROM? Cause that has several bugs - one of them is, that a partition gets corrupted rendering the phone unable to boot.
Is there a buglist for Slimbean 4.3.1?

Check the link for sources. If you mean Master Quarx's kernel, then yes. But if you want to use another one in JB, your choises are very limited..
This build is too an unofficial port, so only Slim-parts can be called stable, to be more accurate.

Bottom line is, the playstore has a convenient auto update feature which Slimroms disables. His brother would have to go to slimroms.net to download further playstore updates. Besides, Slimroms.net could stop supporting the ROM at any time and he would be "stuck" with an outdated playstore. It would work but he would have to pass on any new features or fixes. That's something to consider.
Second thing to consider, every ROM is based on Quarx ROMs. This means that every custom ROM is likely to have Quarx's bugs AND the bugs of the cutomized ROM.
4.3 performs well but it is not 100% functional. I've read they had troubles with bluetooth and I found that some options don't work (adding APN for instance).
4.1.2 is mostly functional but it's not 100% stable. I had several reboots on a fresh install.
Epsylon's latest 4.0.4 is still a good pick. I just installed it and it performs better than JB on Kingdom Rush (it stuttered, crashed and reboot on JB and worked flawlessly on ICS!)
CM7.2 is awesome in every aspects BUT it doesn't have HWA, which means he won't be able to use some of the latest app. Of course, it doesn't mean much since the Defy is not very powerful. But there are some good HWA only apps that still work on the Defy.
I'll say Xperia D3.4 for Defy/Defy+ based on Quarx's CM10 (20130117). It's fast, clutter free, and stable. A very good music player, stable camera, and lots of other addons. Battery life is also not bad.
Because AndroidOS is a chopped/adapted Linux for every hardware (it doesn't contain large drivers library for space economy) is per se a not very stable OS. Even the original firmware isn't "very" stable so the various kind of mods is unstable either. Every mod ROMs is made to cover some aspects and for this cause you must pick the most appropriate for your needs. For beginner try to accomodate with original firmware first, after that try a CM7.x and if you wanna adventure pick a JB or a KK mod. Enjoy.
