Ram expander - Galaxy S II General

Hey guys as you know our phone's ram is! 1Gb so i was thinking is a ram-expander such as the one below advantageous on our phone and what kind of sd class card do u need to run it?

P.s. this is kind of a discussion

Creating a swap file on a flash storage device will probably reduce the flash chip's lifespan. Besides, what kind of amazing power hungry apps do you use that require more than 1GB of RAM?

That's true there aren't any that require over 1GB but i would like a little more smoothness when loading intensive apps but if it's true that it reduces the lfiespan of my ram then that app is a no go unfortunately

What cr*p are you talking about Samsung advertising our phone with 1GB when its not?
You think they can do that legally?
Do some research before you make assumptions which are not true. The reason you will never see full 1GB capacity is because some is reversed for the system OS etc.
Research before posting.

I stuck a 1gig ddr2 RAM stick from my PC in to the USB port on the phone but the phone is only showing 1.8gig!
I feel cheated.

Yes. Sorry about my attitude, been having a long hard day, and was rather annoyed from seeing posts with false info.
I apologize, no need for my attitude. You might want to change your OP now though to avoid further confusion.

According to this:

You need 1g and 512 of ram, we got 384. Why the hell did sony chose 384 anyway, you would think 512 would be the sweat spot anyway.......
oh well,
I think i messed up, it would have been the better choice to go the desire i reckon. More support, better screen, more ram, a bit more future proof.
well there's already a thread with this issue, but I feel exactly like you do.
I should have chosen for the Desire but tmobile didn't have it in stock so I chose for the X10i but I feel the same way. But if you read the other thread you'll see that the X10 will (probably) be capable of running gingerbread

I was wondering where is the rest of the memory but now I have an explanation: "this is how is designed" - LOL
very dissatisfied
Well... what an "answer"... they could've at least said "the ram is used for the GPU" or whatever... not "that's how it is designed"...
Not that I care, but still... not very helpful this video.

Wtf???? I just would like to know: the rest of smartphones are using the same trick or they really show 512mb?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Someone happened to check the desire/desireHD for this aspect?... My wild guess that it's somewhat the same.
It's the same thing with your PC? The user addressable memory is quite a bit lower than what you put in ?
The thing is other phones also advertised as 512mb have 400mb+ useable ram
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Every android phone that i know has a reserved memory(for gpu i think). You can check this thread to see the reserved memory on other models:
/showpost.php?p=7179649
So? Different hardware, different memory mapping. The choose a design for whatever reason that they felt secure with. Very hard to second guess that without knowing what happened in development. Especially if you don't have a background in embedded hardware design. Furthermore there is a "fix" where some of the memory allocation is free'd up.
This really doesn't deserve a ****storm.

All true, but i'm still waiting to see the power of the battery and it's internal storage. The only major things i like about this phone is that it's pure android and that it will release with ICS. If the battery is weak and the internal storage is low, i'm either get the SGSII or wait til something else comes out, cause i got a feeling the Galaxy Nexus is gonna be waaaaaay overpriced for pretty much the same specs as the SGSII, but with ICS(which is nice, but i can wait for the release on the atrix or SGSII) plus it's goin to Verizon first and i'm with At&T soooo........

i don't have a problem with the camera being 5mp, now with the processor stratax cleared that up for me, but no sd card slot, and a 1750mAh battery is gonna disappoint a lot of people just like the nexus s, which is a great phone but could've been better with an sd card slot for people like me that store a lot of music, videos, etc on their phone. My atrix replaced every other device i had(ipod, digital cam, psp) with the 48gbs it holds. But i do believe the Galaxy Nexus will be a great device, just missing a few things

as for the camera that is true, mp are marketing pretty much. software can make it look better than 99% of 8-12mp cameras out there. hahaha there is no sdcard slot? so many people didnt get the nexus s because of that. you'd think they would learn.. that is the same reason i didnt get the sensation because of low storage. i use my atrix as the same. most of it is music and games lol. which takes up a ton. how can a company make a entertainment device with low storage -_- unless it has like 64gb of storage i wont be happy with it. maybe 32 would be fine but still, im sure it will be expensive.
Am I wasting my time thinking AT&T will subsidize the version with their bands?

So I'm expecting to see everyone there, except for the suckers that bought an EVO LTE.
Also I might just hold on a little longer until they get LTE here:
Sprint has been rolling out its 4G LTE network, beginning in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Atlanta, Kansas City, and Waco, Texas. More cities are expected to get the release soon. Next up, Sprint plans to bring its 4G service to Baltimore, Gainesville, Ga., Manhattan/Junction City, Kan., and Sherman-Denison, Texas, before Labor Day.
The service provider expects to complete its 4G LTE network rollout by the end of 2013.
Depending how much it cost off contact I might buy one to play with. I should have a job by then. If I don't then... Idk what I'm doing with my life lol

Not something I think I want to get into if I can avoid it. Holding out for an HTC QWERTY KB Device :fingers-crossed: . To all those that say it's not going to happen I say look around. A whole lot of people were saying there would be no more QWERTY KB Devices released by manufacturers. But here we are with about 6-8 Devices that have been released across the various carriers, and manufacturers . So I'm going to try and hold out.

Locked down bootloader? We are lucky to even have s-off on HTC. I was trying to get us a working copy of CM9/CM10 but it's more trouble than it's even worth unless sparksco comes through at this point. NewSense is king on this phone. HTC should send dread7us, onelove420, and drob311 a zillion dollars for fixing their broken out of the box phone.

Oh and BTW as if to re-iterate my point about manufacturers still making QWERTY KB Devices. Found THIS on the Android Police website.
Just stumbled across THIS , apparently they want a good launch. They're offering it for $150 if you Pre-Order.
Oh and yet another QWERTY KB Device from Sprint announced HERE.
The 3 keyboard phones that are going to launch are:
Kyocera - Low
LG - Medium
Motorola - Top
Considering that is 3 keyboard phones I somehow doubt sprint is going to release another one for at least a year unfortunately
To add to that, an HTC keyboard phone is unlikely because HTC has been pretty much anti keyboard for a while. The only keyboard phones they made were ones they were contracted in advanced to make.
Also notice a coincidence in HTC heavily dropping in profit ever since they stopped making keyboard phones >.>

Sad to see HTC moving away from KB phones. I owned a TP2 and an Evo Shift and loved them both.
I really like the Photon and will PROBABLY order it but have two concerns:
1. Battery. Says "embedded" and it's only 1780mAH. A little small and not replaceable??? Galaxy SIII has 2000mAH and it's swappable.
2. Memory. Didn't see an SD card slot and internal memory is 8GB. Is that correct? Hope not...
From what I've read 8gb is correct on the internal memory but it does have a micro sd slot. I didn't see what that can be expanded to but 32gb is pretty standard. As for the 8gb internal memory, I have a 2gb partition on my micro sd card and I've never come close to using even 1gb. Just sayin'.

Thanks for the clarification. The Sprint site did not show an SD slot so that's good news! Still concerned about the "embedded" battery. I like the option of battery swapping when I need to and most android phones support this capability.

Well if it will handle a 32GB SD Card according to them. Then it should handle a 64GB SD Card with no issues. Reason I say this is because I've already run a 64GB SDHC Micro SD Card on the Shift for over a month with Zero Issues. Same goes for the OG EVO 4G. The card wasn't mine, so I had to give it back :crying: . But it's nice to know that it works on the Shift, and EVO :cyclops: .

The Embedded Battery shouldn't be to much of a concern. Not at all Happy about manufacturers moving to that type of BS. But as was already proven on the EVO LTE, it can be removed. Just not something that's simple anymore. Seems like just another excuse for you to have to take the Device to them . Which is total BS .

Upgrade your galaxy s3 hardware :P

I wish there is way to upgrade your s3 As in add an extra 1gb ram to the mother board of your phone, I mean if some of the galaxy have 2gb I would say there is room on the board for more.... Hmmmmmmm I wonderr
http://www.mlivetech.com/2012/06/28/samsung-galaxy-s3-is-getting-ram-upgrade-for-jelly-bean/
This article was out June 28th What ever happen to the international with 2gb RAHHHH
here is the thing:
if samsung decides to upgrade ram they have two options, to release new model I930x with identical hw as I9300 but 2 gigs of ram OR keep it I9300 and call back in ones with 1gb of ram and replace em for free (second option isnt gonna happen anyways). however if first option happens and I9300 doesnt get android 5.0, how hard is it actually going to be to port roms with only one more gb of ram...in best scenario roms will be universal, just maybe small kernel difference

if samsung decides to upgrade ram they have two options, to release new model I930x with identical hw as I9300 but 2 gigs of ram OR keep it I9300 and call back in ones with 1gb of ram and replace em for free (second option isnt gonna happen anyways). however if first option happens and I9300 doesnt get android 5.0, how hard is it actually going to be to port roms with only one more gb of ram...in best scenario roms will be universal, just maybe small kernel difference

Why wouldnt it be possible for NON-Samsung engineers to update themselves?
Do u mean it will be possible to get the roms from the " i930X" phones and put them on the i9300 ?
And what do u mean android 5.0 isnt JB 4.1.1?
Another quick question my freind was wondering if they can have the same software on our SG3 in his SG2? If it is a yes is it just a simple flash if yes where would u get the flash file
why would you want to make changes to the motherboard when you can simply "DOWNLOAD MORE RAM"
Honestly, if you want a good laugh visit this site http://www.downloadmoreram.com/ make sure to read their blog which shares experiences of people who have used it
He's on about the next update after jb which looks like it's going to be key lime pie
[email protected] more ram
thats incredibly stupid hahah

may God have mercy on you...since you certainly deserve much needed tech savvy'ness...most people in this forum...already have S3 so I doubt anyone will be looking to buy haha...
I thought of the same idea: RAM upgrade for samsung galaxy s III.
Will it be hard to swamp RAM like how we do on laptops?
Wish it could be done like that!! Buy extra 2 RAM and plug it in.

If you are looking to be banned you are going about it the right way.
Stop trolling these forums, sell the phone if you don't like it and stay in the XS forums.
Nobody cares if you don't like the phone or not, I don't know why you don't understand that.

Hey Guys, I just exchanged my Quad Core Exynos chip with Intel 16 core i10 chip with 5 GB RAM...the local tech guy was very kind and also agreed to add 1 TB of extra memory to go with the 16 GB of internal memory...
All at just 99.99 $..I am very happy now..
I future I am thinking of buying more electronic products from Idiot Electronics..
don't believe me? Just check it out in the nearby stores..
