This is a very simple method to enable & disable mediascanner by just one click without having any issues and thus helps saving battery drain..
requirements- titanium backup(TBU) application
steps:-
1.) Run TBU
2.) Click on "Backup/Restore" option
3.) on top of menu u have option "click to edit filters".. click on it
4.) u will get option to "create label" at bottom. click on it
5.) enter a name in "new label" (say xyz) then click on option "add/remove elements" and search for "MEDIA STORAGE" application.. MARK it. SAVE ur newly created label
6.) Exit TBU and go to ur homescreen. select widget of TBU and in widget settings
a.) click on "action" and select "FREEZE all user & system apps".
b.) click on option "filter by" and select ur newly created label XYZ and then click on option "create widget"
7.) Repeat step 6 but this time selecting "DEFROST all user & system apps" after clicking on "action"
and u r done.....
now to disable mediascanner click on widget FREEZE [xyz] and to re enable mediascanner click on widget DEFROST [xyz]
isnt it simple .. just a click
enjoy ur battery
(CAUTION: DONT FORGET TO select ur label while creating widget or else u will end up freezing all ur apps)
thanx
Will try, but I don't have any media scanner problem anymore!
Rescan media root application also serves the same purposes

Today, when I check the updates of the apps, I found that this app keeps showing "installing" but the app has been installed properly yesterday.
I tried several ways to solve it but all doesn't works.
1.) Restart
2.) Unmount & Remount SD card
3.) Uninstalled it by Titanium Backup
4.) Restore the app with older version
5.) Kill "Market" in Taskiller
But all of these cannot solve the problem.
Current rom: mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense 1.8
Does anyone know how to solve it? thanks in advance.
1. go to your settings
2. select "applications"
3. then select "manage applications"
4. press menu and select "filter" then "All"
5. scroll down to:
- "Market" then select "clear cache"
- "Market" then select "clear data"
Problem fixed!
Worked to fix my problem!
Thanks a million
Excellent

Doesn't that also clean your settings in the market? I've read that someone had done this and the whole market just hung up.
Thanks!
Worked great for my EVO. I had deleted an app and when I went back into the market to install it, it kept saying install.
my solution is re-sign google talk .
I understand how to 'stop' the applications via the settings menu, but I want to know how to disable it. How?
Something like msconfig under Windows. Is there an app that uncheck the start-up programs?
This app works without root , just click on the startup manager, you might need root if you don't see the app you want to stop, you might need "titanium backup"

Purpose:
To save time restoring your system apps frozen state after install a new ROM
Notes:
1. Batch functions ONLY affect apps LISTED in the Backup/Restore Tab
2. Labels allow you to save lists of specific apps
3. Make sure Auto-sync TB settings is checked in Preferences(or you may lose your labels with wipe).
4. It seems there are issues with labels not being restored after a wipe. I am working on a solution.
Steps for Setup:
1. Freeze and test until you are happy with the frozen system apps/bloatware
2. Go to Filters section and create a label. Call it Frozen.
3. Make sure the new label you created in UNCHECKED
4. Filter by all currently frozen apps. (not the new label you created)
5. Go back to the list of apps, only frozen apps should be listed.
6. One by one HOLD press each frozen app and tap "Assign Label" and select the new label you created i.e "Frozen"
The next time you install a new ROM:
1. Go to filters. Select your newly created label and Check it.
2. Go back to your list and all your labeled apps should be listed.
3. Press menu > Batch > Freeze all All User & System Apps
4. Done.
Great guide!

Just tried (after installing the insane Ninja Speed Freak update) on my rom, it worked flawlessly! At least an hour of re-installing my system saved..
Hey OP..
update it to this instead. faster than 1 by 1.
We will take frozen apps as an example. So first, freeze the apps you want.
Filter by frozen: Hit MENU -> Filters -> Filter by temperature -> Frozen -> Apply
Now you're seeing only the frozen apps in the list.
Create a label containing frozen apps: Now hit MENU -> Filters -> Create label -> Add/remove elements -> Select shown elements -> OK
Edit the name and hit "Save" to save the label.
To reset the filtering and see the full list again: Hit "Clear" -> "Apply".
Remember to enable the "Auto-sync TB settings" option in the Titanium Backup preferences, so that your custom labels get automatically copied to your SD card.

I knew with something as robust as TiBu that this feature had to exist. I spent hours trying to find out how to actually do it. THANK YOU.
You'd think something as handy as "assign label to filter results" or "assign label to multiple" would've been easier to find...
Love TiBu, but damn if it isn't a bit of a cluster.

Hi,
Thank you for a great guide. I followed your instructions to the letter and now have a complete filter of my Frozen bloatware. I have since uninstalled the bloatware having left it in deep freeze for plenty of time to check out how my system behaves.
However, when I now add an App to my 'Frozen' filter it automatically uninstalls it! I would expect it to simply label it as Frozen NOT remove it completely. Am I missing something?

Hey,
I just tried the procedure again on my phone and it seems to work fine on my end.
I simply followed the steps above and to try and recreate your issue I long clicked an app -> Assign Labels -> Checked my "Stuff Frozen" Label.
When I then filter for that label it doesn't show the newly added app as frozen as I didn't freeze it.
Are you running the latest version of TiBu?

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I am running the latest version.
The only difference to how you've highlighted above is that my App is already frozen, then when I assign it to my Frozen label it gets uninstalled.
Just tried it your way with an unfrozen app. Added it to my 'Frozen' label and after a reboot it's gone, uninstalled.
Is there a setting somewhere that I have told it that my 'Frozen' labelled apps should be automatically removed?
Thanks again for your help
I will definitely try this. Before I used tools that backed up apps and when I load a new rom I have to individually restore those apps.
This should save alot of time.
HEADS-UP! "Titanium Backup: (filter) labels are not restored" By BelgianAtheist, Senior Member on 15th February 2011, 03:15 PM
What I did (after hours of unsuccessfull attempts) :
1- In my new phone (Xiaomi Mi Note 2 > XMN2), I've launch a fresh TitaniumBackup, I've created a dummy label, and in settings, I've ticked "Auto-sync setting TB". This method has created a : (Internal memory) > SDCARD:/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/settings/ folder
2- From my previous phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 3 > SGN3) I've taken and copied to my XMN2 all files in (Internal memory) > SDCARD:/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/settings/ EXCEPT the : databases~sysinfo file.
3- In my XMN2, Ive delete all files in (ROOT) > /data/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/databases/*.* (beware, do not delete the ./databases folder, but all files inside... thus you won't mess with permission's folder (I guess so!))
4- From my SGN3, I've taken and copied to my XMN2 ONLY those 2 files : (ROOT) > /data/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/databases/... custom + filters
5- In my XMN2, I've just restarted TitaniumBackup from menu >> restart application in bottom. And there, I've finally recover back my hundreds labelled application. Settings don't seem to be restored, but, i do not care about that. As I was able to spend hours trying to restore labels, I'll certainly can spend 10 min to setup again my new settings...

I am getting a constant barrage that tells me "Unfortunately, Weather has stopped". I assume it's the app on my home screen that was installed automatically. This message will not stop and repeats so quickly I am unable to do anything, literally. I have to pull the battery and reboot. Please help.
Usually a corrupt cache. The following procedure will resolve most xxxx app has stopped error messages.
If you are using a weather widget on your homescreen, drag it to the trashcan. Then go into the settings menu > applications > all > application manager > weather and click force stop, then clear cache, then clear data.
Then boot to recovery mode (pull battery, replace it, then press and hold in order the volume up key, then the home key, then the power key). Once the screen turns on, release the keys and from recovery mode, wipe the partition cache (or wipe cache + Dalvik if you have a custom recovery).
That should clear up corrupt or messed up weather settings. You will have to drag your weather widget to your homescreen again to replace it.

Thank you so much for answering. The sign happens so quickly and so frequently it's extremely challenging, but I was able to delete it from my home screen. The app manager only lists downloaded apps and I think the one causing the problems is part of the standard package as I don't see it there.
I did find running apps. I did not see any weather apps. Things started happening so quickly that there is no time to do anything.

Not true. If you choose the "all" column instead of the "downloaded" column, you would see all of the apps.
settings menu > applications > application manager > all > weather
And no, you will not get special attention by PMing me. Further requests for tech support by PM will be ignored. Everyone benefits when questions are posed and answered in the forum. If you are impatient, consider doing a search of the forum as this question, like most, has been asked and answered many times before. Hello mates.
Yesterday I read somewhere that LG has a built-in permission manager and how to set it... unfortunately that guide was incorrect (wrong activity to discover)
so I started to looking for this activity and finally I've found it...
everything it's easy to do and with no risk.
BTW everything you do it's on you
NO ROOT NEEDED
Let's start:
1- Download from the playstore QuickShortcutMaker and open it
2- Look for setting and tap on it
3- Look for the activity call "com.android.settings/com.android.settings.Settings$AccessLockSummaryActivity" and tap on it
4- Tap on TRY and you will see if it works
5- If you could open this HideSetting just go back and tap on "CREATE"
6- On your home you are able to find this shortcut and set your permission without using 3rd parts app
(you can also unistall QuickShortcutMaker )
Here some screenshots
Can't find "com.android.settings/com.android.settings.Settings$AccessLockSummaryAct ivity"

write "Access Lock" in the search bar after set "normal search" instead of incremental search
Download from the playstore " App Ops " and open it, it's simpler !
It's not stock app I think... Personally I avoid to install another app if I have one already installed, second I think that the activity is already on so if you use it or not it will continue to drain battery (also 0,0002%) so why double my drain? Anyway it's true... There are apps that do it better, I chosen this one that also work with no root
Unfortunately I am unable to find this in shortcut creator. Could you please advise? I was looking for com.android.settings/com.android.settings.Settings$AccessLockSummaryActivity and for Access Lock both brings nothing
Edit: the only solution I found out is installing app ops and install required pack because LG somewhere messed with Access Lock or deleted it from firmware.
